A LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
One of the most remarkable aspects of Franklin Road Academy is the incredible array of opportunities our students have to explore their passions and excel in every facet of their educational journey. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, or the athletic field, we continually strive to create an environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and resilience, all in the context of our inclusive Christian mission.
In this issue of the 4700 Magazine, we are thrilled to showcase exciting additions to our campus that reflect our commitment to supporting student growth. Our state-of-the-art recording studio has opened the door for budding songwriters, audio engineers, and podcasters to refine their craft and bring their unique voices to life. In our AP Art courses, students push creative limits, inspired by faculty encouraging them to view the world through fresh perspectives. Beyond the fine arts, our wide variety of clubs—spanning robotics, entrepreneurship, digital media, and more—allows students to explore specific interests, collaborate on real-world challenges, and build lifelong friendships in the process.
Of course, these opportunities extend beyond the arts and clubs. Our robust athletics program empowers students to develop discipline, sportsmanship, and leadership skills. Whether learning a new sport, training in our fitness center, or competing at the highest levels, our student-athletes grow in character and confidence with each practice and game. These diverse experiences illustrate what makes FRA so special: a collaborative community of learners who are motivated to embrace challenges and grow in every facet of life—academic, artistic, spiritual, and physical.

All of these offerings are deeply connected to our Strategic Vision, which guides us as we shape our campus, curriculum, and culture to meet the evolving needs of our students.
From new classrooms to enhanced performance spaces, we believe investing in state-of-the-art facilities sparks curiosity and innovation. By aligning our resources with the dreams and aspirations of our students and faculty, we ensure they are equipped to flourish and lead in a diverse and rapidly changing world.
As you explore this edition, I hope you share in our excitement and pride for the incredible accomplishments of our students. I am profoundly grateful for the continued partnership of our families, friends, and supporters, who make our mission possible each day. Our family is blessed to be a part of this remarkable community.
Sincerely,
Sean Casey

PROFILES
We are proud to showcase the accomplishments of our alumni as they make an impact in their professional fields and communities. In this section, one alumnus shares her personal story of life after graduating from FRA.
We’re excited to highlight the success of this exceptional FRA graduate and hope you enjoy reading about her inspiring journey.

Caitlyn Manning
Class of 2016
Caitlyn Manning, Class of 2016, was one of the six Mannings who joined FRA in the fall of 2012. With Kris Manning taking a new job as a 4th grade teacher, her five children came in toe. There was Kendall the oldest, the triplets Carter, Kennedy, and Courtney, and then the baby of the family Caitlyn. Although she was the youngest and a little apprehensive to switch schools, she was determined to make an impact in the 8th grade. She quickly got involved on campus, joining the girls soccer and basketball teams, taking part in Mrs. Malone’s Handsfor-Him, and many other extracurricular activities.

Among the many relationships she developed, her friendship with Rob Funk '16 would prove to be particularly transformative. Rob, a member of the Heart to Heart program at FRA, quickly made Caitlyn one of his inner circle of trusted friends. Little did she know, their friendship would help change her life many years later.
Her high school career was filled with sports, writing essays for Mr. Williams and seizing every opportunity to challenge herself. Her friend Annadelle (Barnes) Benson '16 said, “Caitlyn was always involved in service opportunities, leadership roles, athletics, and spiritual life activities. I had the privilege of serving, learning, and playing alongside her in many of these roles. She befriended everyone—from our Heart to Heart friends to teammates to underclassmen. Caitlyn offers the kind of friendship that lasts a lifetime.”
Caitlyn was a three-season varsity athlete, participating in soccer, basketball, and track, winning several recognitions from both FRA and TSSAA. During her sophomore year, Coach Lisa Zenner even created a 4x200 relay team made up of the four Manning girls. By her senior year, the class voted her “Best All-Around” for her excellence in every area of her high school career.
In addition to her athletic pursuits, Caitlyn became involved in Young Life, and she felt that the spiritual life at FRA was foundational both to the school and to her
personal life. Caitlyn said, “FRA gave me the opportunity to grow in my own faith in so many ways, and it remains one of the biggest impacts on my life to this day.”
Entering Vanderbilt University as a pre-med major brought new challenges, but Caitlyn credits her FRA teachers for equipping her with the study skills needed to excel in her rigorous college courses. She also became involved in Young Life's Capernaum program, which reconnected her with Rob Funk, who attended Vanderbilt’s Next Steps program. This reunion set the stage for the next chapter of their lives together.
During her sophomore year, Caitlyn received an unexpected opportunity when the Vanderbilt football team asked for her assistance with Rob’s equipment duties on game days. What began as a specific assignment supporting Rob soon turned into much more. Her exceptional work ethic and reliability quickly caught the attention of both the coaching staff and administrators, establishing her as an invaluable team member. Despite the demands of schoolwork and the uncertainty of having the time, Caitlyn joined Rob on the field and fell in love with being part of the football program.
Vanderbilt's head coach at the time, Derek Mason, recognized Caitlyn’s leadership qualities. Years later, when Mason accepted the head coaching position at Middle Tennessee State University, he knew exactly who he wanted by his side. He offered
Caitlyn the high-level position of Chief of Staff for his entire program, noting, “Caitlyn is a special person who gives everything her all. This program would not be nearly as great without her here.” Now in her second year with the team, Caitlyn is involved in every aspect of dayto-day operations. During the season, she monitors the 80+ players, arranges travel, and ensures everything runs smoothly. In the off-season, she focuses on new recruits, sets up the upcoming season’s schedule, and continues to support the players under her wing.
Caitlyn's journey — from FRA’s youngest Manning to MTSU’s Chief of Staff — exemplifies the power of dedication, friendship, and being open to unexpected opportunities. It’s a testament to how FRA’s combination of academic rigor, spiritual foundation, and emphasis on community can shape not just a career, but a life of purpose and impact.

HALL OF FAME ENTRANCE
The Franklin Road Academy Athletics Hall of Fame was establishe d in 2021 to show appreciation to those individuals or teams who have made significant contributions to FRA athletics.
Those chosen for induction into the FRA Athletics Hall of Fame have influenced our community through their ability, dedication, and service to our athletic program while at FRA and following graduation.
This year, we honored a remarkable group of athletes who embody the spirit of FRA. The inductees for 2024 were the 2002 State Champion Girls Soccer Team, Coach George Weicker, Derica Wyatt Madole '13, and Clif Tant '94. Each of these teams and individuals made an indelible impact on our school community by demonstrating the leadership, dedication, and grit required to achieve outstanding success.
2002 State Champion Girls Soccer Team
"Are you ready?" This galvanizing pre-game question from star forward Kristin Garman (Salato) became the rallying cry for the Franklin Road Academy 2002 girls soccer team.
From the first whistle of the sweltering July pre-season practice, the girls felt a spark in the air. This would be their year. After claiming State Runner-Up in 2001, they were committed to bringing home the championship in 2002.
Win after win, the girls were a force on the field. A tough loss to DCA in the District Championship only fueled their fire. They got sweet revenge in a nail-biting shootout at Regions, snatching the title from DCA. The team steamrolled through Sectionals, taking down Portland in an 8-1 victory. Finally, the girls faced four-time defending champions at State in the semifinals. The Panthers played a pristine game, taking home a 3-0 win and continuing their quest for the title.
The State Finals game was a storybook ending. With time running out, FRA was down by one goal. As Kristin Garman's perfectly placed corner kick soared through the air, Jenny Philip emerged as the hero of the hour.
1st Row: Jenny Philip ‘05, Anna Black Martin ‘03, Michelle Street Michael ‘03, Ashley Martin ‘03, Laura Matthews ‘04 2nd Row: Christa Johnson ‘05, Marie Alexander ‘06, Kristian Canady Beach ‘06, Ashley Price Warford ‘05, Erin Rooks Baber ‘04, Kristin Garman Salato ‘05, Anna Cherry ‘05, Katie Hudgins ‘04 3rd Row: Head Coach Ken McDonald, Lindsay Glaser ‘04, Emily Marshall Barker ‘06, Claire Marshall Crowell ‘04, Katherine Nyquist Rybinski ‘04, Marissa Yennie Harlow ‘06, Assistant Coach Andy Marshall, Team Manager David Ford ‘04, Not Pictured: Anne Herring ’04
She connected with a header that sent the ball sailing past the goalkeeper's outstretched hands. The crowd went wild as the game was forced into overtime and ended in a shoot-out. Goalie Laura Matthews made save after incredible save. The kickers placed each shot with precise accuracy.
In a moment for the books, freshman Marissa Yennie stepped up to shoot the 7th shot of PKs, the season’s outcome on her young shoulders. With a deep breath and a powerful kick, she secured the team's first-ever State Championship title. Seniors Ashley Martin, Anna Black, and Michelle Street hugged each other tight, victoriously ending their high school soccer careers.
Coach Ken McDonald summed it up perfectly: "These girls poured their hearts and souls into every practice, every game. They didn't just win a championship; they earned it. This team showed everyone what it means to work hard and stick together, no matter what."
The 2002 FRA Girls Soccer Team was ready, indeed.

Coach George Weicker

George Weicker was a paragon of excellence, from the baseball diamond to the classroom. With his passing in 2016, Franklin Road Academy lost a legendary coach, an esteemed faculty member, and an unmatched role model. Coach Weicker’s legacy lives on in the FRA community, from the new building bearing his name to the countless students he inspired throughout his 35-year tenure.
A Baltimore, Maryland, native, Weicker was a standout scholar-athlete at Davidson College, excelling in football and baseball. His college baseball performance earned him a spot on the 1975 1st Team All-America Baseball Team, the 50Year All-Southern Conference Baseball team, and the 1995 Davidson College Hall of Fame.
Post-college, Weicker pursued a professional baseball career for five years, moving to Tennessee as a member of the inaugural Nashville Sounds team in 1978. His baseball and teaching skills earned Weicker the hitting instructor post at Vanderbilt University, where he contributed to the team's 1980 SEC Championship victory.
In 1982, Weicker found a career-defining outlet for his athletic and intellectual talents at Franklin Road Academy. As a coach and math teacher, he made formative contributions to athletic and academic programs. Under Weicker’s leadership, FRA's
baseball team triumphed in 1988 and 2000 state championships, and the football team won the state championship in 1991.
With more than 600 FRA baseball wins and a remarkable 150-80 FRA football record as head coach, Weicker brought out the best in his teams. Without a doubt, his players ended each season earning more than trophies. Weicker impressed the importance of character, discipline, and academic excellence that paid dividends for years to come.
Weicker’s sterling reputation and distinguished career earned him a spot in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame shortly before his passing. Today, his wife Lucy, son Woody, and daughter Libby carry forth his memory, as do the colleagues and students he influenced throughout his career.
As Franklin Road Academy posthumously inducts Coach George Weicker into the Athletic Hall of Fame, the school community reflects on the indelible mark he made as a teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. We celebrate Weicker's enduring legacy, as a man who embodied the very best of what high school sports and education can achieve.
Derica Wyatt Madole '13
When Derica Wyatt first stepped onto the campus of Franklin Road Academy as a sixth-grader, few could have predicted the indelible mark she would leave on the school's basketball program. From that moment, Wyatt embarked on a journey defined by an unwavering commitment to excellence, both on and off the court.
As Wyatt progressed through her upper school years, her talent blossomed, and her dedication bore fruit. The basketball court became her canvas, where she painted masterpieces game after game. Her scoring prowess was unmatched, as she amassed over 2,000 points during her varsity career, setting records that still stand today for both boys and girls basketball at FRA.
But Wyatt's story isn't just one of individual achievement. Her leadership and teamwork were the cornerstones of FRA's success during her tenure. Under her guidance, the team reached the Division II-A state championship game for four consecutive years, clinching the title in 2011 and 2013. These victories were sweetened by the camaraderie and shared triumph with her teammates, experiences that Wyatt cherishes as much as her individual accolades.
The basketball world took notice of Wyatt's exceptional skills. She was named Miss Basketball for Division II-A three times, a testament to her dominance on the court. Her trophy case grew crowded with four All-Region and All-State selections, along with four appearances on the All-State tournament team.
Yet, Wyatt's influence extended beyond the basketball court. She was an active member of Young Life and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, demonstrating her commitment to personal growth and community involvement. Her well-rounded nature and athletic

prowess culminated in her being voted Most Athletic her senior year.
Wyatt's talent and hard work opened doors, leading her to the University of Oklahoma on a basketball scholarship. There, she continued to shine, making her mark in the record books by tying the school record for most three-pointers in a single game. Her collegiate career was marked by consistent excellence, with four straight NCAA tournament appearances and academic honors as a four-time Big XII All-Academic team member.
In 2018, Wyatt began a new chapter in her life, marrying Connor Madole and starting a family. Today, as a mother to Sawyer and Hudson, she brings the same dedication and passion to her family life that she once brought to the basketball court.
Wyatt's legacy at Franklin Road Academy and beyond serves as an inspiration to young athletes and students, proving that with focus, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, one can achieve greatness in all aspects of life.

Clif Tant has always gone the distance for Franklin Road Academy. The 1994 graduate and former track star is one of the school’s longest-running supporters.
While his contributions to FRA have been farranging, Clif made his first mark as a standout runner. An FRA student grades K-12, he quickly found success on the track in Middle School.
Under the tutelage of FRA Athletics Hall of Famer Sterling Ambrose, Clif was the Middle School HVAC champion in both the 800m and 4x800 relay.
Known for his incredible 150m kick at the end of races, Clif was a three-time High School individual and five-time relay regional champion. Clif won all but two individual races in his last three years at FRA. By graduation, he held five school records in track – and still holds the 800m FRA record. Along with his exceptional high school running career, Clif played basketball for four years and was All-District as a Senior.
“Clif was a runner that could elevate any race or relay that he was a part of,” said Coach Tucker.
Clif Tant '94
“He is one of very few runners that I know that was still accelerating through the finish line of the 800m, and no one in his years was able to compete with him.”
Clif’s excellence on the track earned him a spot on Vanderbilt’s team. After a short running career there, he returned to coach FRA Middle School boys and girls basketball and helped lead both programs to HVAC Championships.
Clif’s son Clifton (‘23) also graduated from FRA, making Clif a proud Legacy Parent. Determined to give back to FRA, Clif was on the Board of Trustees for 12 years, serving as board chair from 2021 to 2023. Clif has also found success as a commercial banker over the last 20 years, and he is currently the Nashville Market President for Old National Bank.
Clif credits the quality and requisite discipline of his FRA education with preparing him for various professional and philanthropic roles. He is forever grateful for the spiritual development, friendships and appreciation for character and integrity that occurred while on campus. Noting numerous mentors Clif says the strength gained from the lessons learned at FRA powered his career and compelled him to give back to the community.
“Looking back at FRA in the '80s and '90s, it was a close-knit community that felt like home,” Clif says. “While the term "FRAmily" may not have been officially coined then, it has always been at the heart of the school’s identity. FRA’s distinctive inclusivity has stayed with me, shaping my approach to this day.”
Clif continues to attend FRA track meets, cheering on the young runners following his fleet-footed path.

FOSTERING THE FUTURE OF MUSIC
WITH A BRAND NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART RECORDING STUDIO
BY BOB CHANDLER, Band Director
At Franklin Road Academy, our commitment to nurturing creative minds has always been at the heart of everything we do. This year, that commitment has taken on a whole new dimension with the opening of our state-of-the-art recording studio. For students, this space is not just about learning music—it's about experiencing the entire process of music creation and production from start to finish. It’s a place where ideas are brought to life, where creativity knows no bounds, and where students are able to collaborate and experiment like never before.
FEATURE STORY

A PLACE FOR CREATIVITY TO THRIVE
The recording studio has already had a transformative impact on our students at FRA. From the very beginning, it has opened up a world of possibilities, giving students the tools, space, and inspiration to bring their musical ideas to life. It’s been incredible to witness students who might not have seen themselves as "creatives" discover talents they never knew they had. They are exploring songwriting, production, and the technical aspects of recording music— skills they may have never considered before. One of the most exciting aspects of the studio is the way it fosters a sense of community.
Students are working side by side, collaborating, problem-solving, and supporting each other. The process of recording music in a professional space builds confidence, and it also promotes camaraderie—something that is so vital in a creative environment. As musicians, they can hear their performances instantly and critique their work, which accelerates their growth in both musicianship and production.
We’ve seen students using tools like GarageBand and Logic at home on their personal devices, but now they have access to professional gear and equipment in the studio. It's amazing to watch them take their skills to the next level, whether it’s through mastering the intricacies of mic placement, understanding signal flow, or working with audio effects and processing.
The studio is a place where science meets music—where the physics of sound and the emotions of music come together. It’s been exciting to see students grow in their understanding of both the technical and artistic sides of music production.
FROM COMPOSITION TO COLLABORATION
Students have already started to create some truly impressive projects. Many are diving into original songwriting, either individually or in collaboration with their peers. These projects are giving them the chance to not only write music but also experience the full production process—from recording vocals and instruments to mixing and editing their tracks. It’s a holistic approach to music creation that extends far beyond the traditional music classroom.
One standout project involved senior Claire Perrine, who used the studio to record several original compositions as part of her college applications. She submitted these tracks to some of the top music programs in the country, including Belmont University, Indiana University, and Berklee College of Music. It’s exciting to think that Claire’s work in our recording studio could play a key role in shaping her future in music production. She’s one of several students who plans to pursue a career in music production after graduation, and I couldn’t be more proud of her.

A CREATIVE HUB FOR THE ENTIRE FRA COMMUNITY
Other students, like Walker Jones, are also making great strides in their projects. After completing some of his own compositions, Walker has started collaborating with fellow students like Abigail Hodges and Claire, further exploring the intersection of music and technology. The collaboration doesn’t stop there—Liam Bradford and Maillie Fuson have also been co-writing, and their work highlights the diversity of styles and sounds emerging from this creative space.
Looking forward, my hopes for this studio are far-reaching. I want this space to be more than just a place where students can create music—it should be a hub for the entire FRA community. Imagine workshops led by students for students, collaborations with local artists, and even opportunities for our alumni to return, mentor, and create. It’s my dream that the studio becomes a place where students of all disciplines—whether they’re aspiring musicians, engineers, or producers— can come together, share ideas, and grow.

Beyond just a recording studio, this is a space where ideas come to life, where dreams are nurtured, and where creativity flows freely.
The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see what our students will continue to create in the months and years to come. As we continue to develop this space, it’s my hope that it will not only inspire the next generation of musicians and producers but also serve as a platform for creativity and innovation for the entire FRA community.
From student projects to alumni collaborations, the recording studio is truly a space for everyone to make their mark. We are just getting started—and the future sounds amazing.

"I’ve
been working on some of my own original songs, which I’ve written and composed myself, with some help from Mr. Chandler and others who know more about music production than I do. The recording studio has really allowed me to tap into my creativity in ways I hadn’t before.
It’s also been a great escape when I’m balancing busy days with AP and Honors classes — it gives me a chance to take a step back and just focus on my music."
DYLAN EVERETT '26
Senior Spotlights
DYLAN ANDERSON ’25
As she heads into the next chapter of her life, Dylan Anderson reflects on her journey at Franklin Road Academy, how her faith and creativity have shaped her, and the legacy she hopes to leave behind. Dylan is known for her powerful influence in the spiritual life program at FRA and her dynamic performances through theater. She will undoubtedly make a difference wherever she goes.
WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO FRA?
When I first came to FRA, it was the sense of being seen and known by my teachers that made me feel at home. I met Mr. Salato and Ms. Bachert while touring, and both of them made a huge impact on me. They remembered my name and interests, which made me feel special and valued. It wasn’t just the academics or extracurriculars that drew me in—it was the genuine care the faculty showed for me as an individual.
YOU’VE HAD SIGNIFICANT LEADERSHIP ROLES IN THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY AT FRA. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR EXPERIENCES?
Being involved in spiritual leadership at FRA has been one of the most meaningful parts of my high school experience. Faith has always been important to me, but FRA really helped me grow and help others grow. I’ve had the privilege of being a chaplain and leading devotionals, and I’ve learned
so much from mentors like Coach Albright and Dr. Thomas. Coach Albright has been a huge influence on me, always offering wisdom and guidance. Dr. Thomas, especially in our Christian Leadership class, has deepened my understanding of scripture. His class helped me develop a more personal and practical approach to my faith and scripture.
HOW HAS THEATER SHAPED YOUR FRA EXPERIENCE?
I’ve been performing since I was six, but I’ll admit, my first audition at FRA was terrifying! I had to submit a monologue on video because I had a volleyball game that same day. I was crying while filming it, but somehow Mr. Bolen thought it was good! That moment led to my involvement in every FRA theater production since, from Little Women and Into the Woods to The 39 Steps and The Tempest . Every show has been a new challenge, and I’ve had the opportunity to play so many different roles.
HOW HAS THEATER INFLUENCED YOUR PERSONAL GROWTH AND CONNECTIONS AT FRA?
Theater has taught me about creativity, collaboration, and vulnerability. It’s also helped me form lasting friendships. The seniors in the program really took me under their wing when I was a freshman, and I’m still friends with many of them today. I even met one of my best friends, Liam, through theater. Spending hours together working on shows has created bonds that will last beyond high school. Now, as a senior, I’m part of the cast of The Addams Family . The energy from this group is incredible, and we’re all having a blast.
WHAT KIND OF LEGACY DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE AT FRA?
I hope people remember me for making them feel loved, seen, and heard. I want them to know that I genuinely cared about them, and I want to inspire others to do the same. I also hope they remember me for living out my faith—not just talking about it but showing it through how I treated others. My goal is to help people grow in their own faith and to be a positive influence on the FRA community.
HOW HAVE THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES AT FRA SHAPED YOUR EXPERIENCE?
I don’t think I would have had the same opportunities at any other school. The college counseling program has been amazing and I’m also involved in the Exceptional Honors Program, where I work with students who have developmental disabilities. It’s something I never thought I’d be interested in, but it’s been such a fulfilling experience.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER GRADUATION?
I’m planning to major in worship leadership, possibly at Lee University or Samford University. I’ve felt called to this for a long time, and I’m excited to continue growing in that area.
Worship leadership allows me to combine my passion for faith and theater, and I’m looking forward to using my gifts to serve others.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR FRA EXPERIENCE IN A FEW WORDS?
FRA has been the place where I’ve been able to grow spiritually, creatively, and personally. It’s been a community that’s supported me, challenged me, and allowed me to lead and serve others. I’ll always be thankful for the people I’ve met, the lessons I’ve learned, and the impact FRA has had on my life. I’m excited for what’s next, but I’ll always carry what FRA has taught me wherever I go.

AQWITT MAXWELL '25
Known for his leadership in robotics, entrepreneurship, and broadcasting, senior Witt Maxwell’s high school journey has been marked by a deep commitment to both personal growth and mentoring others. In this interview, Witt reflects on his time at Franklin Road Academy, involvement in various programs, and the lasting impact of the community on his life.
YOU’VE BEEN INVOLVED IN A LOT OF ACTIVITIES AT FRA, INCLUDING ROBOTICS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP. HOW DID THOSE TWO AREAS BECOME CENTRAL TO YOUR FRA EXPERIENCE?
When I first came to FRA, I jumped right in. I got involved in everything— choir, theater, cross-country, and of course, robotics. Robotics was one of the first programs I participated in, and I immediately connected with the upperclassmen. They mentored me and taught me how to build, code, and drive robots.
The entrepreneurship program was equally transformative. When I joined, it was a brand-new program, and I had no idea how much it would impact me. Through that program, I launched my own drone business. I’ve been able to work with clients like The Grand Hyatt and the City of Nashville.
YOU’VE MENTIONED THE MENTORSHIP YOU RECEIVED AT FRA. CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT HOW THAT SHAPED YOUR JOURNEY?
Mentorship has been at the core of my experience at FRA. During my first year in the entrepreneurship program, I was paired with a parent mentor who helped me get my drone business off the ground. That relationship was so important. My mentor still supports me today, and I rely on him as my business continues to grow. I’ve also had mentors in robotics, especially upperclassmen who took the time to teach me everything they knew. In turn, I’ve tried to give back by mentoring younger students, both in robotics and through the Panther Pals program.
WHAT ROLE DID THE ROBOTICS PROGRAM PLAY IN YOUR DEVELOPMENT?
The robotics program is where I learned how to work with a team, solve problems, and think critically. But it’s also where I learned how to lead. As I progressed, I started taking on leadership roles, and my biggest accomplishment was mentoring younger students. I loved seeing their creativity come to life, especially when they worked on projects like building a rocket ship prototype. It was amazing to see them gain confidence as they built and presented their projects. Competing at state level every year and making it to the World Championships twice were incredible milestones. But it’s not just about the accolades; it’s about how the program helped me grow as a person and a leader.
WHAT IMPACT DO YOU HOPE TO HAVE ON YOUNGER STUDENTS AT FRA?
I want younger students to know that they can achieve anything with the right support and mindset. I’ve always been driven by the desire to help others realize their potential. Whether it’s mentoring students in robotics or leading by example in class, my goal is to make people feel seen and valued. It’s not just about individual success—it’s about lifting others up.
HOW HAVE FRA’S OPPORTUNITIES SHAPED YOUR FUTURE PLANS?
FRA has played a huge role in preparing me for the future. I’m planning to major in Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship, and I feel confident in my ability to succeed because of everything I’ve learned here. The hands-on learning, the mentorship, and the opportunities to lead have all helped me develop the skills I need. FRA has given me the freedom to pursue my passions and the confidence to take risks, knowing that there’s a community behind me.
WHAT’S ONE OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES AT FRA?
One of the most memorable experiences was organizing and participating in FRAllege Gameday. It was a student-run event, and it was amazing to see the entire community come together—faculty, students, and parents—working to make it a success. It was a perfect example of the culture at FRA, where collaboration and leadership are encouraged at every level.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNGER STUDENTS AT FRA?
Take advantage of every opportunity you’re given. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the field, or in
one of FRA’s many programs, dive in and try everything. Don’t be afraid to take risks, ask questions, and seek out mentors. And most importantly, be sure to give back. FRA is a place where you can grow and learn, but it’s also a place where you have the chance to help others do the same.
WHAT HAS FRA MEANT TO YOU?
FRA has been more than just a school—it’s been a second home. It’s a place that’s allowed me to explore my passions, develop leadership skills, and grow as a person. I’m incredibly thankful for everything I’ve experienced here, and I know I’ll carry those lessons with me wherever I go.

AN ACCELERATED PATH TO ACHIEVEMENT
THE IMPACT OF AP CLASSES AT FRA

BY ERIC JOHNSON, Assistant Head of School for Academic and Student Affairs
At Franklin Road Academy, academic excellence is not just an aspiration—it’s a standard. One of the key ways the school achieves this is through our robust offering of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. With more AP classes available than nearly any other co-educational school in Tennessee, FRA is providing students with a pathway to college-level learning while still in high school. ACADEMIC

At FRA, the AP program is a core component of the school’s commitment to academic excellence. All AP courses are taught in person by experienced, AP-certified teachers who create a dynamic, college-style classroom environment. These educators not only deliver rigorous content but also encourage students to think critically, collaborate with peers, and engage deeply with the material.
FRA offers a wide range of AP courses, with at least two new AP classes available each year. This broad access ensures that every student has the opportunity to challenge themselves and grow throughout their high school years. The program’s design is intentional, ensuring that students can continually push themselves academically and develop the skills needed to succeed in college-level work.
Each year, an increasing number of FRA students take AP courses, and the results speak for themselves. Approximately 90% of FRA students complete at least one AP course before
COLLEGE CREDIT

graduation, a significantly higher percentage than the national average. This strong participation rate is complemented by FRA’s impressive success on AP exams, where 82% of students earn a passing score of 3 or higher— well above the state average.
What truly sets FRA apart is the performance of its students on these exams. Over 57% of students consistently score 4 or 5 on their AP exams, demonstrating exceptional mastery of the subjects. This high level of achievement underscores the dedication of both FRA's students and faculty.
In addition to traditional AP courses, FRA offers post-AP courses, which dive even deeper into specialized topics. For example, the Advanced Topics in Multivariable Calculus is a collegelevel course that extends beyond the typical AP curriculum, while the Advanced Topics in Art provides seniors with the opportunity to build their college portfolios and gain real-world exposure to professional art studios.

“My AP classes at FRA empowered me with the curiosity, discipline, and critical thinking necessary to succeed in college and in my professional career. When I arrived at Vanderbilt University, I was immensely prepared to tackle tough lectures and seminars and even tested out of advanced classes allowing me to graduate from Vanderbilt in three years, double majoring in Human and Organizational Development and Law, History, and Society."
AVA ACKERMAN '20
These post-AP courses reflect the school’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for the intellectual challenges they will face in higher education and beyond. With over 1,264 college credit hours earned through AP exams last year alone, FRA students are well ahead of the curve when it comes to preparing for college. The credits earned through these exams help students save on tuition and, in many cases, allow them to start college already equipped with advanced standing.
Beyond college credits, the AP program at FRA cultivates intellectual curiosity, resilience, and the problem-solving abilities that are key to success in college and in any career. FRA students graduate not only prepared for the academic rigors of higher education but also with the skills, confidence, and mindset to excel in whatever they choose to pursue.
The strength of FRA’s AP program is also evident in the impressive scores FRA students achieve on standardized tests. The average FRA student outperforms 81% of test takers on the ACT and SAT, with many top students scoring in the 95th percentile or higher. These high scores are a testament to the strong academic foundation provided by the AP program. Ultimately, the AP program at FRA is about more than just preparing students for college—it’s about inspiring them to pursue their passions and excel in their academic and professional journeys. By offering an extensive range of AP courses, expert instruction, and opportunities to earn college credits, FRA empowers students to achieve their fullest potential. At FRA, there are no limits to what students can accomplish.

beyond the classroom
THE POWER OF CLUBS
BY DAVID DAWSON, Director of Student Activities
At Franklin Road Academy, fostering leadership and community engagement is central to the student experience. In recent years, FRA has placed a strong emphasis on providing both middle and upper school students with opportunities to engage in student-led clubs and organizations that complement their academic learning. These clubs give students a chance to explore their passions, connect with peers and faculty, and develop vital life skills, all while aligning with the school’s mission to develop leaders of integrity and purpose.
This year, FRA offers over 40 clubs, ranging from service groups like the Service Club to academic clubs like Mathletes, and creative outlets such as the No Bake Baking Club and Taylor Swift Club. Other popular clubs include Flour Power, Chess Club, and FBLA, where students can develop business skills and entrepreneurial thinking.
“Students have the freedom to choose how they want to get involved in our community. Each club offers unique experiences, but all provide valuable opportunities to connect and grow," says Thomas Gilroy, a US Humanities teacher and sponsor of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

Along with co-curricular clubs, FRA also offers leadership opportunities through student government. Middle and upper school students can run for student council, where they represent their peers, give feedback, and help shape school life. The middle school council organizes community-building events like Halloween games and “mix-it-up” lunches, while the upper school council plans major events such as Homecoming and Christmas Week. Both councils also work with administrators to provide input on school policies like the dress code.
These student leaders play a key role in ensuring their peers’ voices are heard, helping to foster a sense of pride and belonging within the FRA community. Through clubs and student government, FRA empowers students with the tools they need to become proactive, effective leaders, prepared to lead with purpose and integrity.

"As the Director of Student Activities, it is my objective to provide our students with opportunities to grow in their faith, their relationships, and in community within FRA's unique culture. We are committed to fostering leadership, instilling kindness, empathy, compassion, and resilience, enhancing students' academic and co-curricular experiences, and fostering lasting relationships beyond graduation."

SUPPORTING OUR CHILDREN
IN AN ANXIOUS AGE : KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE ANXIOUS GENERATION
BY JONATHAN HAIDT
BY ALLISON HAMMAT, Upper School Counselor
As parents, we are witnessing unprecedented changes in our children’s development, largely due to the profound effects of technology and societal shifts. In his book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness, Jonathan Haidt explores how these changes are impacting the mental health of children and teens. This fall, Franklin Road Academy hosted parent book discussions centered around Haidt’s insights, sparking meaningful conversations and increased awareness within our community.
Key takeaways from the book highlight the rise in mental health challenges, including significant increases in depression and anxiety among teenagers.
Since 2010, major depression has risen by 161% among boys and 145% among girls, with diagnoses of anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health disorders also climbing sharply. Haidt links these trends to several modern factors, including overprotection in the real world and underprotection in the virtual world, as well as the decline of play-based childhoods due to increased smartphone use.
The book also addresses "safetyism," an overemphasis on protecting children from risk, which prevents them from gaining the resilience needed to manage anxiety and build self-reliance. Haidt stresses the importance of real, face-to-face relationships, which serve as a buffer against the harmful effects of social media.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. INCREASE IN MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES:
Major depression among teens has increased significantly since 2010: 161% for boys and 145% for girls. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other mental health diagnoses have also risen sharply among U.S. undergraduates since 2010.
2. OVERPROTECTION VS. UNDER PROTECTION:
Overprotection in the real world and under protection in the virtual world are major reasons for the increased anxiety among children born after 1995.
3. DECLINE OF PLAY-BASED CHILDHOOD:
Unstructured playtime with friends has decreased, correlating with the rise of smartphone use. Play is crucial for developing physical, psychological, and social competence.
4. SAFETYISM AS AN EXPERIENCE BLOCKER: Overemphasis on safety prevents children from gaining experiences necessary for overcoming anxiety and developing self-reliance.
5. THE IMPORTANCE OF REAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Strong, real-world relationships provide a buffer against the negative effects of social media.
STRATEGIES FOR PARENTS
1. DELAYING TECHNOLOGY:
Delaying smartphones until high school helps children focus on social and cognitive skills without digital distractions. Limiting social media use until age 16 reduces online pressure. Phone-free schools and unstructured play promote creativity and interpersonal development.
2. DEFINING MEDIA BOUNDARIES:
Create media-free zones, like during meals or in bedrooms, to encourage healthier family interactions. Ongoing discussions about online safety and citizenship teach responsibility. Clear rules for media use help children develop mindful screen habits.
THE 4 FOUNDATIONAL HARMS OF PHONE-BASED CHILDHOOD
SOCIAL DEPRIVATION
Face-to-face exposure to friends dropped significantly from 122 minutes per day in 2012 to 67 minutes per day in 2019.
SLEEP DEPRIVATION
Sleep quality and quantity declined with the advent of smartphones and social media. Negative effects of sleep deprivation are well documented.
ATTENTION FRAGMENTATION
Phones constantly compete for attention, impacting executive function and maturity.
ADDICTION
Social media apps often use behaviorist techniques to keep users engaged longer.
3. ENCOURAGING INDEPENDENT PLAY:
Outdoor, independent play builds problem-solving, creativity, and physical health. Allowing manageable risks fosters confidence and resilience, helping children learn to navigate challenges on their own.
4. FOSTERING HUMAN CONNECTIONS:
Encourage face-to-face interactions to build social skills and emotional intelligence. Ensure children have mentors and role models to inspire growth and recognize achievements.
5. BALANCING DIGITAL AND REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCES:
Limit screen time, especially during puberty, to support emotional and social development. Encourage real-world experiences that help children manage risks and develop self-governance.

EMBRACING CULTURE, BUILDING COMMUNITY
BY BRODRICK THOMAS, Director of Diversity, Community, and Inclusion
Hispanic Heritage Month was inspired by Philippians 2:2-4 (NIV), which encourages us to “be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind… in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” Guided by this spirit of unity and service, Franklin Road Academy embraced a month-long celebration, honoring the rich cultural tapestry of the Hispanic community and fostering a more profound respect and appreciation for cultural diversity at FRA.
Our month-long celebration included small moments and big-impact experiences for students of all ages. For our Lower School students, we introduced the vibrant world of Mariachi music, igniting a spark of curiosity about the heritage of Mexican culture. Middle School students were captivated by Leah Woolbright as she shared her heartfelt journey of her family’s strength and overall unity within the Hispanic culture. Our Upper School students watched a live performance of traditional Hispanic folkloric dance from a local Hispanicowned dance company, showcasing the beauty and grace of this cultural art form.

Guest speakers joined us on campus to tell their stories and deepen our students’ understanding of diverse perspectives. Ms. Victoria, a Lower School faculty member, shared her inspiring journey with our younger students, describing how she came from El Salvador to the U.S., emphasizing the power of perseverance. Nestor Hernandez, a Puerto Rican-American speaker, challenged Middle and Upper School students to embrace their authentic selves and use their gifts to serve others.
Various hands-on activities were organized to provide a truly immersive cultural experience. Lower School students were educated on the history of Mariachi bands with a live concert during lunch, bringing classroom learning to life. Eighth-grade students celebrated with a Hispanic Heritage lunch, dancing to lively music, learning about the history of the taco, and savoring authentic street tacos from a local Hispanic-owned restaurant. Our seniors ventured to Nashville's Plaza Mariachi, immersing themselves in a traditional Mexican marketplace’s art, food, and music. They also gained insights about community resources that support local Hispanic families in Nashville.
Through each of these experiences, FRA actively fostered a community of compassionate global citizens who, rooted in Christian values, are prepared to serve across cultures with integrity and purpose. What we do on campus has an impact that reaches far beyond our walls, shaping young leaders ready to make a positive difference in the world. Hispanic Heritage Month at FRA was more than just a celebration; it was a commitment to fostering understanding, respect, and love for all people.

SHAPING SERVANT LEADERS THROUGH THE
Turner Fellowship
BY NATALIE SCRUGGS, Director of Turner Fellowship
For over 20 years the Turner Fellowship has made an impact on the students at Franklin Road Academy, as well as various non-profit organizations in the greater community of Nashville. Since its inception in 2003, the Turner Fellowship program has sent nearly 200 FRA students into the Nashville non-profit community to serve those in need and has allowed them to truly learn the value of what it means to “love your neighbor.”

EMPOWERING SERVANT LEADERS THROUGH THE TURNER FELLOWSHIP AT
FRANKLIN ROAD ACADEMY
The Turner Fellowship program at Franklin Road Academy, made possible by the generosity of the Cal Turner Family Foundation, empowers students to develop into lifelong servant leaders committed to making a lasting impact on others. This year, after a competitive selection process, 12 students were placed at 8 nonprofit organizations in the Nashville community, with Legacy Mission Village joining the roster of partners.
As a distinctive program in Tennessee, the Turner Fellowship offers high school seniors the opportunity to engage with local nonprofits,
gaining hands-on experience while serving the community. The program opens each spring to rising seniors, allowing us to select students who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to service and a desire to connect with their community. This year’s fellows include athletes, artists, actors, National Honor Society members, several Merit Scholar finalists, and even a senior class chaplain.
Over the course of six weeks, each fellow completes a paid internship, with the opportunity to earn a Turner Scholarship to the college of their choice. In addition, each nonprofit organization that hosts a fellow receives a financial contribution in their honor. The Turner Fellows are recognized for their academic excellence, integrity, and strong dedication to community service.

POWERFUL PARTNERSHIPS WITH NASHVILLE NONPROFITS
SHOWER THE PEOPLE
One organization that welcomed Turner Fellows this year was Shower the People, which works to support and rehabilitate unhoused individuals in Nashville through its mobile shower service. Parker Finnegan, one of the fellows at Shower the People, shared his profound experience:
"At all of our shower services, I have amazing and wise conversations with the people we serve. It’s eye-opening to realize how something as basic as a shower can be such a blessing to people who are homeless. Within my first week, I became more grateful for everything I have.”
BETHLEHEM CENTERS OF NASHVILLE
Bethlehem Centers of Nashville has been a cornerstone partner of the Turner Fellowship for many years. The organization provides

educational programs and services for children, youth, and seniors in North Nashville. Fellow MJ Jones spent the summer working directly with the kids, and her reflections highlight the deep emotional connections formed:
"The genuine love that flows from these kids makes my heart grow with each second I spend with them. Their curiosity and unwavering faith in me have been humbling. I’ve learned so much from them, particularly how to embrace faith with childlike trust.”
SINCE IT'S INCEPTION IN 2003, 196 STUDENTS HAVE SERVED AS TURNER FELLOWS.

PRESTON TAYLOR MINISTRIES
Another impactful partner is Preston Taylor Ministries (PTM), which empowers children and youth through reading, STEM, Bible studies, and community activities. Constance Cooper, a fellow at PTM, described her experience:
"The kids’ excitement during our creek walk field trip brought me so much joy. I cried when it was time to say goodbye because of the bond I had formed with these kids. They taught me the value of teamwork and the deep love that comes from investing in others."
FIRST STEPS
First Steps, which serves children with special needs, provided a transformative experience for fellow Amory Taylor. She reflected on the joy of working with children and the rewarding nature of seeing their progress:
"At First Steps, I have loved every minute. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m so grateful to have been surrounded by these kids and their families. The impact has been far beyond what I could have imagined.”
BAREFOOT REPUBLIC CAMP
The mission of Barefoot Republic Camp is to foster relationships among individuals from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds through arts and athletics. Fellow Olivia Lown worked with the campers, and her reflections capture the essence of her experience:
"By the end of the week, I had watched my campers come out of their shells, and I felt honored to teach them about how much they are loved by God. This experience had more of an impact on me than I could have ever hoped.”
FANNIE BATTLE DAY HOME FOR CHILDREN
Fannie Battle Day Home for Children provides affordable childcare to working families in Nashville. Turner Fellow Ruby Zullo was deeply moved by the relationships she built with the children:
"The kids were so excited to have me as part of their team. The most rewarding part was knowing I meant something to each of them. I made lifelong memories with them, and the bond we formed was incredibly meaningful. Leaving was so hard, but I know I’ll carry the lessons I learned from them for the rest of my life."
LEGACY MISSION VILLAGE
New this year, Legacy Mission Village offers refugee support services in Nashville and East Africa. Nicholas Kouchoukos, a fellow at Legacy, described the impact of tutoring a Kurdish-Iraqi woman preparing for her U.S. Citizenship Test:
"Helping Brewan with her test preparation was so rewarding. I got to witness the tangible results of our work, like refugees passing their citizenship exams and going on college tours. Seeing people’s dreams come true because of our work together felt incredible.”
DREAM STREETS
Formerly known as WNDC, Dream Streets works to strengthen families and communities by offering support services like after-school programs and job readiness training. Fellow Kylie LeAnna said,
"This experience was life-changing. The kids have so much to offer—whether it's their humor, love, or quiet time. I never expected to form such strong bonds in such a short amount of time, but now I can’t imagine my summer any other way.”

WE
HAVE PARTNERED WITH 18 DIFFERENT AGENCIES OVER THE LAST 19 YEARS AND HAVE INVESTED OVER 45,000 HOURS OF SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY. WE WOULD LOVE TO EXPLORE NEW PARTNERSHIPS TO EXPAND OUR IMPACT AMONG DIFFERENT POPULATIONS IN NASHVILLE.

A LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE FOR THE FELLOWS
The Turner Fellowship isn’t just about giving back—it’s about growing as a person and a leader. As the summer came to a close, the fellows shared what they had learned and how they were transformed by their experiences.
Jin Holloway, who worked with Barefoot Republic, summed it up well:
"These 240 hours meant the world to me. I’ve made lasting relationships with the campers and counselors, and I’m grateful for every moment I spent serving others. God truly worked through me during this experience.”

Each fellow walks away from the program not only with invaluable lessons about leadership and community service but also with a renewed understanding of the world around them. For many, it’s a step toward a lifelong commitment to serving others.
As Turner Fellowships continue to send students into the heart of Nashville’s nonprofits, the program remains an integral part of FRA’s mission to develop students who are not only academically successful but also compassionate, servant-hearted leaders ready to make a difference in the world.

AP 3D Design
ARTIST REFLECTIONS AND PORTFOLIOS
BY PHILLIP GRISWOLD, Middle & Upper School Visual Arts Teacher
The AP 3D Design class is centered around a student portfolio of artwork. Portfolios are comprised of two sections: Sustained Investigation and Selected Works. The Sustained Investigation section is guided by a central question, chosen by the artist as their area of inquiry. As they work, students build their portfolio using practice, experimentation and revision. The final portfolio is comprised of 15 digital images of 3D artworks, and images of an additional 5 artworks for the Selected Works portion. Together, these images are sent to the College Board for grading. It’s a great joy to see each student’s personal vision come to life as the portfolio comes together in the spring.

SAMANTHA DEDMAN
“The inquiry that guided my sustained investigation is: How does architecture reflect culture through time? I was inspired by the small (now bigger) town of Franklin where I spent most of my childhood. Here, architecture styles have changed through, time. From log cabins, Romanesque revival, to modern houses with large windows. The first piece is Historic Franklin Presbyterian church build in the mid 1800’s. As my portfolio progressed, it began to show the changes seen in the world. I created a piece of a half- torn-down building to show how the old is removed. Then, I began to combine the old and new and turn towards more modern buildings. In a recent piece, an architectural fountain, began with the classic fountain structure, to which is added a modern grid."

WESTIN WARWILL
"Trees are an essential part of the natural world, serving many purposes in many different forms. What are some of the roles that trees play in their many forms?
My portfolio answers this question in many ways, as it displays the many forms that trees can take. One example of this is the decaying stump sculpture, which shows a trees purpose even after death, which is feeding the decomposing plants that grow on it. The tree with the paper leaves shows a more subtle use of trees, which is making paper for humans, which is shown by using paper as its leaves."

DONOVAN PINKSTON
"How may we see geometry in nature in a hypothetical world filled with more natural geometry? Shapes in nature are normally organic, whereas man-made things tend to be more geometric. Once I recognized this, the idea of combining the two fascinated me deeply. A great example of this is the first piece I made this year. It was a dead tree stump that switches from the natural organic look of the tree for the bottom half of the stump to then the tree trunk being made up of geometric shapes in an abstract manner."

BY ROSS BOLEN, Theater Director
The curiosity of the Addams family has tickled American culture for generations since the comics first appeared in the New Yorker magazine in 1938. Since then, we’ve been peeking inside the home of this charming, if strange, family in a variety of formats from the original comics, a popular television sitcom, the film franchise of the 1990’s, to the most recent adaptation, the Netflix series Wednesday.

The Addams Family was originally created as a satire, challenging the idea of the ideal 20th century family. Even now in the 21st century, the Addams family has successfully demonstrated that there is no true definition of the ideal family. From generation to generation these spooky-kooky characters continue to teach us to be open to different cultures, perspectives, and interests as we encounter in life. They remind us that “strange," like beauty, really is in the eye of the beholder.
What I love about this story, ironically enough, is that this particular story challenges the

Addams family themselves with that same lesson that they have taught American families since their own conception. As Wednesday comes into her own womanhood, the family is exposed to ideas and interests far from their own. It brings them drama, turmoil, and to a choice. Will they open their hearts to these Beinekes and their way of life or will they risk losing their daughter to their own ignorance? As they take us on this hilarious journey to find an answer, we are all reminded that the strongest and most confusing force in the universe is love itself.

ROLLEN TEASLEY
Transferring to a new school at the start of freshman year would present challenges to anyone, but Rollen Teasley pushed through her nerves and found purpose on the other side of change.
At Franklin Road Academy, athletics and the arts are fused together to shape students into well-rounded individuals. Rollen, now a senior, exemplifies this perfectly. She’s a passionate and dedicated member of FRA’s rapidly growing dance program and has already invested back into the community that shaped her.
When Rollen looks back to her first tour of FRA, she recalls being drawn to the welcoming atmosphere. “It just felt so homey,” she says. Small but meaningful details, like the dedicated dance room and FRA’s focus on Christian values, made her realize she’d found her new home.
Although Rollen had a background in ballet—having danced since she was six—it took time for her to embrace the dance program fully. She initially hesitated to try out for the team, feeling intimidated. But when dance became her freshman-year elective, Rollen met her coach, Sarah Rigsby, who encouraged her to give it another shot. By sophomore year, she was on the team and has been an integral member ever since.
Over the past three years, Rollen has witnessed the dance program’s transformation. “The growth is insane,” she says. What began as a small team with minimal competition opportunities has evolved into a dynamic program. By her junior year, the team competed at both regionals and nationals—a pivotal moment that showed their true potential. Despite limited practice time, they advanced to the finals at Nationals in one routine, an achievement that ignited a new sense of ambition.
The team now includes younger students, even eighth graders, reflecting its expanding reach and impact. Rollen appreciates how everyone brings unique dance backgrounds, from ballet to club competitions, creating a diverse and vibrant dynamic. “It’s more good than bad,” she says with a smile, noting how they’ve learned to blend their strengths.
For Rollen, the dance team isn’t just about routines and performances; it’s about relationships. “The younger girls feel like little sisters to me,” she says. Whether it’s offering hugs in the hallways or listening to their questions, she values the mentorship role she’s grown into. Similarly, her relationships with her coaches—Sarah, Julia, and Emily—are marked by trust and mutual respect. “They know everything about me, from my best friends to what’s happening in my life,” she laughs, crediting them as mentors who are always there for her.
Beyond dance, Rollen is a student-athlete in every sense of the word. She balances her time on the dance floor with commitments to FRA’s swim team, where she’s aiming for a spot at State and her part-time job at Puffy Muffin. Her schedule is demanding, but she thrives on the variety and sense of purpose each activity brings.
Reflecting on her time at FRA, Rollen says the school has been instrumental in her growth—not only as a dancer but also as a person. From strengthening her faith through Young Life and devotionals to building friendships that feel like family, she’s found a supportive environment that encourages her to pursue her passions.
For Rollen Teasley, dance has been more than just a high school activity—it’s been a journey of self-discovery, connection, and growth. It’s students like her who showcase the importance of athletics at FRA, proving that the bonds formed, and lessons learned often outlast the final performance.

The Speed family’s connection to Franklin Road Academy spans nearly its entire history.
Ricky Speed started at FRA as a sixth grader, and he fondly recalls the friendships, faculty, and events that helped shape the early years of the school.
Decades later, when Ricky and his wife Joelle were searching for a school for their own sons, there was no doubt in their minds. "I always knew this school was a special place, staying true to the vision Bill Bradshaw established many years ago."
The Speed family is incredibly proud of the way each of their sons—Riley ’19, Tyler ’22, and Charlie ’24—has flourished at FRA, each finding their own unique path to success. "We are forever grateful for the experiences we’ve had on this campus, and we look forward to staying connected for many years to come."

PHILANTHROPY REPORT
Reflecting giving from the 2023-24 school year.
Itrust this message finds you well. As we reflect on the conclusion of the 2023-24 fiscal year through the following pages of our Report on Philanthropy, I am moved to express my deepest gratitude for the extraordinary support and generosity that defines the heart of Franklin Road Academy.
In this report, you will find enthralling summaries of the Unique Moment in Time capital campaign, our Annual Fund, named endowed funds, scholarships and awards, alumni giving, and special events such as Stars and Guitars and the FRA Golf Classic. These endeavors, fueled by the time, talent, and treasure generously given by our community, have empowered us to fulfill our school's mission—a mission that is unique, compelling, and drives us to pursue excellence in all aspects of the experience here.
Last year highlighted the strength of the incredible community we are fortunate to be a part of. The immense support from parents, alumni, and friends has not only driven us forward but also fostered a vibrant and engaging school and community experience on our campus.
Philanthropy, as highlighted in this report, is a catalyst that differentiates good schools from great ones. Your investment in our school—whether through financial contributions, volunteerism, or advocacy— has made a tangible impact on the lives of our students. We take pride in the fact that, over the last five years, our annual fund has averaged over 90% parent participation, as compared to just over 65% nationally. This is a testament to the remarkable commitment of our community to the mission of Franklin Road Academy.
In the following pages, you'll read a heartfelt testimony from the Austermillers, a current FRA family, about why they choose to support the school philanthropically. Their story highlights a shared belief in the mission of our school and the steadfast dedication to excellence that shapes everyday life here. The enriching learning experiences, the strength of our inclusive Christian community, and the opportunities for students to explore their passions are just a few of the meaningful outcomes of the community's investment in our school.
I extend my deepest appreciation to our board of trustees and our leadership for their faithful service to our school through their tireless support and guidance. Their dedication ensures that our students and families benefit from the strong leadership that blesses our school. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you to our development and communications teams, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our school has the resources needed for an excellent student experience.
The collective efforts of our community have left an indelible mark on our school, and the progress witnessed on our campus has been nothing short of remarkable. I am humbled by God’s faithfulness and live in hopeful anticipation of what lies ahead. Thank you for your unwavering partnership with us.
With deepest gratitude,
Sincerely,

Ryan Harris Assistant Head of School for External Affairs

ANNUAL FUND
The Annual Fund is essential to providing resources that directly enhance student experiences and maintain the standard of excellence at Franklin Road Academy. Contributions to the Annual Fund during the 2023–2024 fiscal year positively impacted every student, every day, and we are deeply grateful for the generosity of our community.
Like all independent schools, FRA relies on a combination of tuition and annual donations to fund our operating budget. The gifts from our current parents, board members, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends of FRA bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the full cost of the FRA experience.
Your support through our Annual Fund enables us to train and develop outstanding teachers, sustain transformative programs, and offer our students exceptional opportunities. Every gift matters, and we are inspired by the commitment of those who continue to support our mission.
Thank you for being an integral part of the FRA legacy of giving. Together, we ensure that FRA remains a place where students grow, thrive, and achieve their full potential.

WHY WE GIVE
THE AUSTERMILLER FAMILY
Penny, Joslin and Julia
DONOR STORY
Since 2019, our family has been blessed to be part of the Franklin Road Academy community. From the moment we stepped onto campus, we felt something different—a spirit of connection, belonging, and purpose. FRA isn’t just a school; it’s a family. It’s a place where students are not only challenged to excel but also nurtured to grow into the best versions of themselves.
As a parent, I’ve had the privilege of watching my daughters, Joslin and Julia, thrive in ways I could only hope for. They’ve discovered their passions both inside and outside the classroom—whether performing in the drama department, competing on the athletic field, or receiving personalized attention from teachers who truly care. At FRA, every child is seen, known, and loved.
What continues to amaze me is the depth of commitment this school has to its mission of shaping leaders of integrity and purpose. FRA meets each student where they are, helping them unlock their potential and preparing them for a life of purpose beyond our campus.
But none of this happens by accident. It’s the result of a community-wide effort—parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends—coming together to ensure that FRA remains a place of excellence. That’s why my family is proud to support Franklin Road Academy through both the Annual Fund and the Capital Campaign.
The Annual Fund is more than just a fundraising effort. It’s the foundation that allows FRA to provide the experiences and resources that make
this school extraordinary. It supports everything from recruiting and retaining the best teachers to enhancing classroom technologies to ensuring the safety and beauty of our campus.
The Capital Campaign, on the other hand, is about dreaming big and investing in the future. It focuses on transformational projects that elevate our campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities that inspire learning, foster innovation, and strengthen community connections. These projects are a tangible expression of our commitment to excellence, benefiting not just current students but generations to come.
We know that giving looks different for every family. What matters most is participation. Every gift, no matter the size, is a testament to the strength of our community and the value we place on an FRA education. Together, we can continue to nurture leaders, dreamers, and change-makers who will make a difference in the world.
"Every gift, no matter the size, is a testament to the strength of our community and the value we place on an FRA education."

ALUMNI GIVING
Dear FRA Alumni,
For over 50 years, FRA has been a community that connects generations. Our alumni are the heartbeat of this enduring legacy, serving as a vital bridge between our past and future.
The FRA experience doesn't end at graduation. It's a lifelong journey of connection, growth, and shared purpose. When alumni return to campus, they instantly recognize the transformative power of their shared experiences. The bonds within these walls continue to shape lives long after students leave our classrooms.
All the contributions, whether financial, through mentorship, or by staying connected, help keep the vibrant spirit that makes FRA unique. The alumni are the living testament to FRA's mission. Your success, your stories, and your continued commitment keep our school community's heart beating strong.
All the best,

Rod Jones Director of Alumni Engagement

A Unique Moment in Time
THE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FOR FRANKLIN ROAD ACADEMY
Dear FRA Community,
Thanks to the unwavering support of our families and over $60 million raised through the Unique Moment in Time Campaign, FRA is stronger than ever. Your generosity propels us forward, and while much remains to be accomplished, your investment in our mission is deeply appreciated.
While facilities and programs are essential, FRA is ultimately about people. Our inclusive Christian community provides a challenging educational experience that develops leaders of integrity and purpose. Through strong connections, our students feel supported by faculty who are fully invested in their growth and development.
Learning at FRA extends beyond the classroom. From sharing meals and brainstorming business ideas to recording in the studio, playing on the turf field, or studying on the Campus Green, our thoughtfully designed spaces foster connection and growth and support our ongoing commitment to providing one of the finest independent school educational experiences in the nation.
As I reflect on what God has done on our campus and the accomplishments of our community over the past five years, I am even more excited about our next strategic vision and what the next decade holds for FRA.
All the best,

Sean Casey Head of School
