Athletics Alumni News August Birthdays

Mr.Brian Hatcher Administrative Principal

Brian Hatcher comes to FCS after serving in churches for nearly 20 years. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Ministry and a minor in Business Administration with a special interest in biblical Greek.

Mr. Hatcher met his wife, Jaclyn, in college and they were married in 1998. They have three boys: Harrison, Hudson, and Hunter. He went on to graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Theology, featuring a master's thesis: Karl Barth and the Nothingness .

He served in discipleship and administrative roles in church ministry in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, and Missouri before coming to Franklin, Tennessee.

Mr. Hatcher is passionate about helping people know the Jesus he knows. He enjoys fishing, woodworking, and theology.

KING’S MOUNTAIN CAMP

7th – 12th Grades Tuesday – Friday August 10 – 13, 2021 Departure: Arrive by 9:45 am on Tuesday, August 10, in the FCS parking lot.

Students must wear the camp t-shirts given at our Back to School Bash.

Return: Friday, August 13, 11:15 am What to Bring: • Bible, journal or notebook, pen • 1 suitcase—The luggage tag you will be given at Back to School Bash MUST be attached to your suitcase.

• 1 pair of jeans and light jacket or hoodie in case of a cool evening • modest shirts (no tube tops, spaghetti straps, low-cut, or see-through shirts) • modest shorts with at least a 4-inch inseam • 1 set of grubby clothes that can get extremely dirty • swimsuit (one-piece suit required) • tennis shoes • water shoes or sandals with a strap that can get wet • toiletries • sunscreen & insect repellent • snacks for the midnight munchies No snacks with peanuts • a disposable shower cap for the flour war (optional but wise) • a dressier outfit for our dance night Bedding & Towels: • All 7th–8th graders as well as 9th–11th grade men: pillow; bath towel; swimming towel; sleeping bag or linens and light blanket for a twin bed • 9th-12th grade ladies and 12th grade men: swimming towel; no bed linens, pillow, or bath towel necessary Do Not Bring: • valuables • cells phones or other electronic devices • pocket knives • fireworks • snacks with peanuts • shaving cream or any item for pranks Please Note: • Prohibited items, including phones, will be confiscated by counselors and returned to parents after camp.

• Pranks are strictly prohibited at camp.

BACK TO SCHOOL BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH AUGUST 7, 2021 K – 5th Grade: 9:00 am 6th – 8th Grade: 10:00 am 9th – 12th Grade: 11:00 am

> All meetings will be held in the FCS Auditorium on the first floor. > Families with LD and UD students need to only attend one meeting. > Families with UD students and 6th graders should attend the LD meeting.

Grammar School Parents: Please bring your children’s school supplies and leave them in their classrooms after your grade level meeting.

Grammar School: August 10–13, 2021 Students in grades K–6 may wear modest athletic shorts along with FCS t-shirts on Tuesday, August 10, and Wednesday, August 11.

Closed-toe shoes are required.

FCS dress code is required Thursday, August 12, and Friday, August 13.

Please send a lunch with your student all four days, as seniors will be at camp and Chick-fil-A will not be offered until the following week.

Fall sports are underway! Our athletes have already started practicing on the football field, volleyball court, and cross country trail. As we head toward the beginning of the school year, please be sure your athletes' physicals are up to date and you have returned any equipment from last season.

Registrations for football, volleyball, and cross country will remain open until August 1.

Lt. Col. Eric Scherrer

Mr. John Scherrer holds his grandchild while he and Eric visit with FCS Alumnus Evan Parolini.

Franklin Classical School alumnus Eric Scherrer, from the graduating class of 1997 and the Naval Academy class of 2004, was recently promoted to the position of Commanding Officer of Marine Fighter Training Squadron 401. VMFT-401 is the only aggressor squadron for the Marine Corps.

They work closely with the US Marine Corps, US Navy, and US Air Force units.

His wife, Kelly Sullivan Scherrer, graduated from FCS in 1996.

Lt. Col. Scherrer's father, FCS debate coach Mr. John Scherrer, attended the promotion ceremony in Yuma, Arizona, where he ran into FCS alumnus Evan Parolini (FCS Class of 2019) at a local sandwich shop. Private First Class Parolini is stationed in Yuma, where he serves with the fire, crash, and rescue unit of the US Marine Corps.

We are proud of and thankful for all our alumni who serve our country.
