Franchising

From the Desk of IFA President and CEO Matt Haller

The energy and collaboration witnessed at the IFA Annual Convention solidified my belief that 2025 is indeed poised to be the “Year of Franchising.” The gathering of 4,000 individuals dedicated to strengthening the franchise model was truly inspiring, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who participated.

IFA’s latest Franchising Economic Outlook paints an exciting picture for the year ahead. Franchising is projected to outpace U.S. economic growth by an impressive 27 percent, with 20,000 new businesses and 210,000 new jobs on the horizon. This remarkable momentum is fueled by improving economic conditions and a more favorable regulatory and legislative environment, which IFA is working day in and day out to protect. In Las Vegas, we heard from some of the top leaders in franchising — whose brands and businesses are reaching new heights. We took away the latest in technology, marketing, AI, and the countless advancements business leaders are adopting to propel the business model forward.

IFA Chair Mary Kennedy Thompson left us with a powerful charge, encouraging everyone in the room to consider how to stay involved with IFA moving forward, how to implement new ideas they learned to elevate their businesses, and how to follow up with the connections made. Our time together at the Annual Convention is only the beginning.

As we embrace the opportunities before us, IFA is committed to several key initiatives this year. We will focus on creating more champions for franchising at all levels of government, advocating for policy changes that will stand the test of time, growing and strengthening education and professional development offerings, and making new investments, such as our partnership with Franchise Update Media and hosting the inaugural IFA World Franchise Show in Miami this May.

We are especially excited about IFA’s new brand and a new Franchise.org, which highlight the organization’s role as the leading resource for franchising.

As I emphasized in my Convention remarks, now is the time to shift from defense to offense. Franchising is gaining recognition at the highest levels, and we have the momentum to create lasting change. However, this requires all of us to stay engaged, share our stories, and advocate for our businesses.

Together, we can make 2025 the most successful year for franchising yet. I look forward to continuing this journey with you all as we work collectively to seize the opportunities that lie ahead and drive the franchise business model to new heights.

Sincerely,

IFA’S MISSION

The International Franchise Association protects, enhances and promotes franchising.

IFA’S VISION

The preeminent voice and acknowledged leader for franchising worldwide.

Re-Bath has signed a franchise agreement for the Tri-Cities region in Tennessee with multi-unit franchisee Nassif Harb. As Tennessee continues to rank among the nation’s fastest-growing states in population and franchise unit growth, Nassif sees the Tri-Cities as an ideal market to expand his portfolio and bring his industry expertise to new customers.

In 2024, Pillar To Post celebrated 15 new franchise signings and four successful resales. This growth strategy ensures the brand’s continued strength, keeping territories intact while reshaping them to align with market demands and maximize potential. These efforts have driven expansion across key states, including Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas.

POST-GAME HIGHLIGHTS: TEAM FRANCHISING TAKES OVER LAS VEGAS AT IFA 2025

Every championship team needs a game plan, and at the 2025 International Franchise Association (IFA) Convention in Las Vegas, Team Franchising took center stage to strategize, innovate, and celebrate the franchise business model.

With thousands of franchisors, franchisees, and suppliers coming together for the largest annual gathering of the year, IFA 2025 left it all on the field — powerful insights, game-changing strategies, and a renewed commitment to grow and protect franchising.

The Power of Coming Together: Learning, Networking & Connecting

The magic of the IFA Annual Convention lies in bringing all of franchising together under one roof. With so many of us spending time on the road, in home offices or just working in our silos, sometimes we get disconnected from all the good that comes from faceto-face time with friends, customers and peers. In Las Vegas this year, Team Franchising filled the halls, eager to engage in high-impact sessions, thought-provoking discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. From first-time attendees to seasoned franchise leaders, the Convention reaffirmed the importance of face-to-face interactions, knowledge-sharing, and community building — critical elements for long-term franchise success.

Pre-Gaming with a Party and Poker

Before the official sessions began, Team Franchising warmed up with some unforgettable pre-game action. The Convention kicked off with an incredible Super Bowl Watch Party, where attendees gathered to enjoy the biggest football game of the year while reconnecting with industry friends and colleagues.

For those who wanted to up the stakes, the IFA Poker Tournament provided an electrifying experience, bringing together franchising professionals in a fun, high-energy setting. These first-time events set the tone for an exciting, engaging Convention, allowing new connections to be made and old friendships to be rekindled — all in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere.

A Historic Kickoff: 2025 Declared the Year of Franchising

IFA President and CEO, Matt Haller, kicked off the event with a bold vision, declaring 2025 as the Year of Franchising. In a rallying call to attendees, Haller outlined IFA’s strategic roadmap to amplify the positive impact of franchising on the economy, workforce development, and local communities. The message was clear: Franchising is a powerful driver of opportunity, and IFA is “Going Big” to ensure that policymakers and the public recognize its value.

IFA’s Reimagined Brand: A New Look for a Bold Future

To match its ambitious vision, IFA unveiled a complete brand refresh — including a new logo, an upgraded website, and a refined strategic mission. This transformation signals IFA’s unwavering commitment to protecting and growing franchising while providing results-driven education, world-class events, and effective

advocacy. The upgraded Franchise.org website now serves as a central hub for members, streamlining access to essential resources, news, and opportunities to connect.

Inspiration from Franchise Icons & Thought Leaders

No game is complete without star players, and this year’s Convention featured some of the most influential voices in the industry. Franchise veterans Mary Kennedy Thompson (2025 IFA Chair), Steve Hockett (2024 IFA Chair) and Patrick Doyle (newly inducted into IFA’s Hall of Fame) shared their insights on leadership, operational excellence, and innovation.

The keynote spotlight shone on James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, who broke down how small, incremental changes can lead to massive long-term success. His guidance for building better habits struck a chord with franchise leaders looking to drive sustainable growth in their businesses.

Learning Franchising’s Playbook

It wouldn’t be an IFA Convention without powerful Super Sessions, and this year Team Franchising had the opportunity for deep learning on AI-powered franchising, sales mastery, and succession planning. Attendees also had the chance to dive into expert-led discussions on economic trends, real estate negotiations, and development strategies.

AI and Automation: Using next level automation
James Clear

The Annual Leadership Conference, hosted by the Women’s Franchise Committee, held another sold out event focused on leading through growth and celebrated Robin Gagnon as the 2025 Crystal Compass Winner.

This year’s Emerging Franchisor Bootcamp provided a unique setting for newer franchisor brand leaders to learn and network with more experienced founders and executives.

And back on the main stage, a standout moment came during the Day 2 General Session, where Danny Hughes, President of Americas for Hilton, delivered a keynote on leadership and resilience. Industry leaders Liz Gehringer of Anywhere Franchise Brands and Anand Gala of Gala Capital Partners tackled franchise innovation, diversification, and economic shifts.

At IFA 2025, we also honored franchise champions, Javier Solis, CFE, with the Ron Harrison Diversity Award, and Dawn Kane with the Bonny LeVine Award — recognizing their contributions to making franchising more inclusive and impactful.

And the learning happened all day, every day. There were 77 education sessions in eight different tracks, attended by all players and skill levels.

IFA Roundtables: Franchising’s Best Huddles

No team wins without a great huddle, and at IFA 2025, the industry’s best gathered for powerful roundtable discussions.

With 95 roundtables spread across four packed sessions over two days, attendees had the chance to deep-dive into pressing industry topics with their peers. These interactive discussions fostered an environment of shared learning, sparking fresh ideas, new collaborations, and actionable takeaways.

Each roundtable was led by franchise experts, offering firsthand insights on topics ranging from franchisee engagement and AI-powered marketing to scaling

operations and advocacy strategies. The energy in the rooms was electric, as franchise leaders huddled together to tackle real-world challenges and brainstorm innovative solutions.

Unparalleled Networking: So Many Team Franchising Huddles!

Beyond the mainstage, the Exhibit Hall buzzed with energy as attendees explored cutting-edge solutions from suppliers and franchise service providers. Lively evenings closed with powerhouse networking receptions, including gatherings for the Diversity Institute, International, Private Equity, and VetFran communities.

IFA celebrated 116 Franchisees of the Year, recognizing top-performing operators who exemplify the best of franchising. And over 100 attendees took to the stage as they graduated with their Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) designation.

Get Involved: The Year of Franchising Has Just Begun

This issue of Franchising World magazine serves as your post-game highlights, capturing the key moments, insights, and takeaways from IFA 2025. But the momentum doesn’t stop here. IFA’s commitment to advocating for franchising, delivering education, and fostering industry connections continues year-round.

THE LEGACY OF LEONARD SWARTZ: A 60-YEAR JOURNEY IN FRANCHISING

For six decades, Leonard Swartz, CFE, has been a pillar of the franchising world.

As a longtime member of the International Franchise Association (IFA), Swartz has witnessed the industry evolve into to a global force. In this exclusive interview, IFA’s marketing team sits down with Swartz to discuss his extensive career, the transformations in franchising, and his unwavering commitment to the IFA.

Q: Leonard, can you start by telling us a bit about your journey in franchising?

A: Absolutely. I’ve been involved with the IFA for 60 years, starting in 1964. My introduction to franchising came through my uncle, Bill Rosenberg, who founded Dunkin’ and the IFA. I started working at Dunkin’ when I was 13 or 14 years old. Later, I went to university in Boston, became a CPA, and joined Dunkin’ in 1964. My cousin Bob was president at the time, and I came on as a controller and financial officer. One of my first jobs was dealing with some financial challenges, and I remember calling IFA members asking for donations.

Q: After leaving Dunkin’ in 1970, where did your career take you?

A: For the next 40 years, I focused on turning around troubled franchise companies. I helped revive several businesses, including Pip Printing and a division of ITT Corporation. At Pip Printing, where I was Executive VP, they were having problems in England and Canada so I spent a year flying back and forth between the UK and Canada, as well as California where my youngest daughter was still in school. I became active in the British Franchise Association and the Canadian Franchise Association as well.

Another notable experience was working with ITT Corporation, which had a struggling employment agency. I convinced the board to sell it to OlstenTemporary Services, which helped ITT’s overall position. Later, I worked with Sheraton Hotels addressing franchisee concerns and was involved when they acquired the Luxury Collection. My work took me all over the world evaluating hotels for acquisition.

I was then asked to join the world’s largest consulting and accounting firm as worldwide manager of franchise services — again traveling the world while advising our offices and clients, and of course, always promoting the IFA. I was a member of the IFA Budget and Finance Committee, International Committee, and many other committees. During this time, for 10 years I was the only non-legal member of the North American Security Administrators Association (NASAA) Advisory group that oversaw franchising. I was an associate member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and put on seminars for the legal profession.

Q: You’ve attended IFA Conventions for 60 years. What was your first one like?

A: My first IFA convention was in 1964, and it was nothing like today’s events. It was much smaller — no cameras, no big productions. That year, I met Phil Zeidman, one of the smartest franchise lawyers I’ve ever known. Over the years, I attended many conventions, though my heavy travel schedule sometimes kept me away. Still, I always represented the IFA, even internationally, and helped promote its mission.

Q: What are some of your most memorable moments with the IFA?

A: One of my proudest moments was receiving the William Rosenberg Foundation Leadership Award. It was a great honor. Another big moment was being part of the initial Franchise Foundation Board, which for tax reasons at that time I left the board to help the new Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) programs as the first financial officer. The CFE program started with just a few participants and now seeing hundreds of graduates each year is incredible.

Matt Haller and Leonard Swartz, CFE

Q: How has the IFA changed over the years?

A: It has changed dramatically. In the beginning, franchisees weren’t allowed in, and suppliers weren’t involved either. Now, the IFA includes franchisors, franchisees, and suppliers, which makes it much stronger. The way franchising operates has also changed — there’s more transparency, education, and structure than ever before.

Q: What does franchising mean to you?

A: Franchising is in my heart, and I really believe in it. It’s a business model that, when done right, creates incredible opportunities. Franchisors need to be honest and have a solid business before franchising. Likewise, franchisees should do their homework, get good advisors, and fully understand what they’re committing to. If both sides are on the same page, franchising can be a tremendous success.

Q: With the IFA undergoing a rebrand this year, what are your thoughts on its direction?

A: Change is necessary, and I think the IFA is heading in the right direction. I’ve helped start franchise associations all over the world, from the Philippines to Singapore, China to South Africa, and I’ve seen how much franchising has grown globally. The IFA’s new direction will help it continue to evolve. If my uncle Bill could see it now, he’d be amazed.

Q: What advice would you give to new IFA members?

A: Get involved! Franchising is about relationships, and the IFA offers fantastic networking and learning opportunities. Go to events, connect with experienced members, and take advantage of programs like the CFE. The more you put into the IFA, the more you’ll get out of it. It’s a community that truly supports its members.

Q: Any final thoughts on your 60-year journey in franchising?

A: It’s been an incredible journey. Franchising has allowed me to travel the world, meet great people, and be part of something bigger than myself. The IFA has been a huge part of my life, and I’m grateful for everything it has given me. I’m excited to see where franchising goes next and how the next generation will continue to build on it.

Leonard Swartz’s career is a testament to the power of franchising. He is currently a senior advisor with iFranchise Group, working with Mark Siebert and Dave Hood for over 20 years, and continues to be involved in franchising all over the country.

Swartz is still an associate member of the ABA. His dedication, experience, and insights have shaped the industry in profound ways, and his legacy continues to inspire franchise professionals worldwide.

IFA FRANCHISEE OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS

IFA is proud to recognize the following franchise owners for the 2024 Franchisee of the Year Awards who were honored during the 2025 IFA Annual Convention. FRANCHISING’S FUTURE: HIGHLIGHTS FROM IFA 2025 LEADERSHIP SPEECHES

The 2025 International Franchise Association (IFA) Convention in Las Vegas brought together the brightest minds and boldest voices in franchising.

This year’s theme, TEAM FRANCHISING, underscored the collaborative spirit that drives success. Throughout the convention, key IFA leaders delivered inspiring speeches reflecting on what franchising has accomplished and their optimism for the road ahead. Here are the insightful ideas and memorable moments from the Convention’s main stage.

Steve Hockett, 2024 IFA Chairman: Reflecting on a Year of Big Wins

Steve Hockett, the outgoing Chairman of the IFA, took the stage with a contagious enthusiasm, celebrating

the incredible momentum franchising has built over the past year. He acknowledged the strong, unified community of franchisors, franchisees, and suppliers, all working together toward a shared mission: Protect, Enhance, and Promote franchising every day.

Looking back at 2024, Hockett joked that expectations were low at the beginning of his tenure, but the industry defied all odds with remarkable achievements! He pointed to key advocacy victories, including defeating the National Labor Relations Board’s harmful joint employer regulation in the courts, securing stronger franchise disclosure laws in California, and preventing onerous legislation in multiple states.

Another major milestone was the historic agreement between IFA and Franchise Update Media, forging a unified powerhouse to serve the franchising community. Additionally, IFA’s first-ever International Franchise Show in London expanded its global footprint, reinforcing the importance of international franchising.

Hockett also highlighted the expansion of IFA’s education and leadership programs, including the Franchise Ascension Initiative, which began an innovative new chapter in elevating entrepreneurs in franchising.

Summarizing his time as Chairman, Hockett expressed his deep appreciation for the collaboration and dedication of IFA members. “Franchising made it happen,” he proclaimed. “The list of accomplishments is long, the celebrations of success are enduring, and it was a fantastic year for franchising.”

His speech ended with a rousing call to action: “Let’s go, franchising!” — setting the stage for an exciting future for the IFA and its members.

Mary Kennedy Thompson, 2025 IFA Chair: A Bullish Future for Franchising

Incoming IFA Chair and CEO of BNI, Mary Kennedy Thompson, took the stage with an optimistic vision for the future of franchising, reinforcing the momentum established under Steve Hockett’s leadership. She began by expressing gratitude to Hockett, acknowledging his ability to step in during a critical time and guide the association with grace, wisdom, and clarity. She also highlighted the long-term planning and strategic investments made by IFA leadership, ensuring the association’s ongoing strength and stability.

Reflecting on her own journey — from franchisee, to franchisor, to IFA Chair — Thompson shared the invaluable lessons she’s learned about good franchising. She emphasized the importance of transparency, collaboration, coaching, and focusing on the customer experience as key factors that drive sustainable success. As a passionate advocate for networking, she reminded attendees that networking doesn’t end at the event — it’s about meaningful follow-up to build lasting professional relationships.

Thompson’s bullish stance on franchising stems from several converging factors: a stabilized postpandemic economy, alignment in key industry data, and a favorable political landscape for growth. She noted that recent wins in government relations underscore franchising’s ability to mobilize, influence policy, and drive positive outcomes for business owners.

As the industry looks ahead, Thompson called on attendees to go on the offensive, tell compelling franchising stories, and emphasize the industry’s economic impact.

uniquely positioned to bridge divides, representing Republicans, Democrats, and Independents; large and small businesses; global and local entrepreneurs.

Ending her speech on a powerful note, Thompson reiterated that franchising is about dream-making — helping business leaders surpass their wildest aspirations.

She urged all in attendance to take an active role in protecting, enhancing, and promoting franchising through advocacy, ethical leadership, and community engagement.

Steve White, 2024 IFA Foundation Chair: Strengthening the Foundation for the Future

Steve White, President of PuroClean and outgoing Chair of the IFA Foundation, delivered a powerful update on the Foundation’s progress and impact.

“I am pleased to report that the state of our IFA Foundation is strong!” he announced, underscoring the Foundation’s strengthened governance, expanded leadership, and improved financial position. White introduced a new strategic plan aimed at expanding the Foundation’s reach and effectiveness in the years ahead.

He took a moment to clarify the distinction between the IFA and the IFA Foundation, explaining that the Foundation is the nonprofit arm dedicated to advancing key initiatives such as VetFran, the Diversity Institute, Franchising Gives Back, and the Franchise Ascension Initiative. VetFran, now boasting over 500 participating brands, has helped thousands of military veterans explore franchising as a career path.

Matt Haller,

IFA President

& CEO: Making 2025 the Year of Franchising

IFA President and CEO Matt Haller set a bold vision for 2025, declaring it “The Year of Franchising.” With the recently released Franchising Economic Outlook Report, he shared compelling statistics: franchising will grow 27 percent faster than the overall U.S. economy, adding 20,000 new businesses and 210,000 jobs nationwide.

Haller emphasized that this growth is fueled by an improving regulatory environment and an open window of opportunity in Washington. “The tides are turning,” he noted, “and rather than being under attack, franchising is now being celebrated at the highest levels of government.”

To seize this moment, Haller outlined IFA’s offensive strategy — creating more champions for franchising in government and securing policy changes that support long-term industry success. He called on attendees to play an active role, stressing that franchising knows no political party and thrives at both local and national levels.

Haller also highlighted IFA’s strategic investments, including the acquisition of Franchise Update Media, the launch of the IFA World Franchise Show, modern new branding and launch of an upgraded Franchise.org website. He reinforced that these efforts will create a stronger, more connected franchise community.

Ending on a high note, Haller urged everyone to “get engaged, tell your franchise story, and help shape the future of our industry.” He closed with an inspiring reminder: “Together, we will make 2025 the best year for franchising!”

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN FRANCHISING: CELEBRATING THE ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AND THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CRYSTAL COMPASS AWARD

The Power of Community & Representation

In the franchising world — where entrepreneurial dreams take shape — a powerful network of women is driving change, fostering leadership, and creating opportunities.

The Women’s Franchise Committee (WFC) is a dynamic force within the International Franchise Association (IFA), dedicated to advancing women in business through mentorship, advocacy, and leadership development. Since its inception, the WFC has broken barriers and has provided women in franchising with the resources, support, and community needed to thrive.

Annual Leadership Conference (ALC): The Power of Five

One of WFC’s most significant contributions to the IFA is the Annual Leadership Conference (ALC) — a must-attend event for franchise leaders. Held on Day 1 of the IFA Convention, ALC provides actionable insights, inspiring speakers, and networking opportunities.

This year, ALC embraced “The Power of Five,” focusing on five pillars driving franchising success: Operations, Marketing, Franchise Development, Technology, and Executive Leadership. Over 350 attendees gathered in Las Vegas for impactful discussions.

Key Highlights

Honoring Excellence: The 25th Anniversary of the Crystal Compass Award

A highlight of ALC is the Crystal Compass Award, recognizing individuals who significantly contribute to mentorship, leadership, and industry advancement. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the award. Robin Gagnon, CFE, co-founder & CEO of We Sell Restaurants, was honored as the 25th recipient. During her acceptance speech, she shared how belief from others can change one’s career trajectory. She reflected on her journey from franchisee to franchise executive and the WFC’s role in supporting women like her. Robin’s story exemplifies the power of mentorship, advocacy, and community — all core to WFC’s mission. This milestone anniversary of the Crystal

Compass Award highlights WFC’s lasting impact and the leaders who pave the way for future generations.

Beyond the ALC: The WFC’s Year-Round Impact

While ALC is a flagship event, WFC’s influence extends beyond the conference. The committee’s three pillars empower, educate, and elevate women in franchising:

• Her Success Podcast – Featuring 50+ episodes that amplify female leadership stories.

• Women’s Franchise Network (WFN) – Connecting women through 18 active chapters, eight in development, and free virtual webinars.

• Annual Leadership Conference (ALC) – Bringing industry leaders together for education and networking.

That belief — the faith others place in you — is foundational to franchising.”
—Robin Gagnon, CFE

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Women’s Franchise Committee

For nearly three decades, WFC has been a driving force in creating a more inclusive and dynamic franchise industry. Through mentorship, storytelling, networking, and leadership development, the committee remains committed to shaping franchising’s future. FRANCHISING’S RESILIENCE AND THE ROAD AHEAD: WHY PRO-GROWTH POLICIES MATTER NOW MORE THAN EVER

The

franchise sector continues to demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and strength as

we move deeper into 2025.

IFA’s 2025 Franchising Economic Outlook, released in February, along with our 2025 IFA Franchisor Survey, paints a cautiously optimistic picture for the business model — one that shows another year of record growth, while highlighting the need for permanent policy solutions that enable, rather than hinder, the success of Main Street franchise businesses.

According to this year’s Economic Outlook, franchises are projected to add over 221,000 jobs and grow by more than 15,000 establishments nationwide, with total output expected to reach $893.9 billion. This is the second year in a row where the growth of franchising has exceeded the growth of the broader economy. These numbers represent not just an economic rebound, but a sector moving full speed ahead — creating opportunities in local communities, offering pathways to entrepreneurship, and fueling the American economy.

But our optimism is tempered by the clear message we’ve heard from franchisors and franchisees alike: growth is not guaranteed.

The 2025 IFA Franchisor Survey revealed several pressing challenges on the horizon.

Chief among them are inflation-driven cost pressures, persistent labor shortages, and an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Nearly 70 percent of franchisors reported difficulty finding qualified workers, and more than half cited concern over regulatory uncertainty impacting expansion plans.

The reality is that while franchising continues to outperform other small business sectors, it does so in spite of, not because of, shifting policy dynamics. Franchising

depends on a clear, stable framework that supports the independence of franchisees and encourages investment in new businesses. We’re seeing real momentum across industries — from restaurants to health services to education — but that momentum is at risk without supportive, pro-growth policies.

For example, franchise businesses have faced four different versions of the joint employer standard over the last decade. While business owners have learned to adapt, it has come at the expense of the franchisor-franchisee relationship, harming their employees and consumers in the process. Further, without congressional action, all small businesses could face a tax increase at the end of 2025.

Now is the time for lawmakers to double down on what works. That means protecting the franchise model, resisting one-size-fits-all regulations that blur the lines between franchisors and franchisees, and promoting legislation that will support small businesses and help entrepreneurs get started and grow.

Franchising represents more than just business growth — it’s about local impact. Franchise businesses support veterans, open doors for underserved communities, and offer upward mobility in communities across the country. At IFA, we remain committed to working with leaders at every level to ensure this business model continues to thrive – and reach even new heights into the next year.

The 2025 outlook confirms what we’ve always known: franchising is strong, resilient, and filled with potential. But to fully unlock that potential, we need smart policies that reflect the realities of today’s economy and the promise of tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.

Let’s keep franchising growing — for our communities, our workforce, and our future.

FRANCHISE ALL STARS: A GAME-CHANGING ENGAGEMENT EXPERIENCE AT IFA CONVENTION

Leading up to the highly anticipated 2025 IFA Convention, IFA launched the inaugural Franchise All Stars game — a dynamic, interactive way for Convention attendees to connect, compete, and engage before the event.

Designed to amplify excitement and foster meaningful interactions, Franchise All Stars rewarded participants for their engagement, referrals, and social sharing.

How It Worked

Participation was simple. Once registered for the IFA Convention, attendees could join the competition through our game platform. Upon signing up, each participant received a unique referral link to share with peers, colleagues, and franchise professionals to encourage Convention registrations. Points were awarded for every successful referral and for completing social media actions, such as sharing Convention-related content, following official pages, and using designated event hashtags. Daily challenges and bonus point opportunities ranging from franchise trivia to interactive polls and scavenger hunts that required exploring Convention-related content online kept engagement high. The more attendees participated, the higher they climbed on the Franchise All Stars leaderboard. The competition fostered friendly rivalry while also serving as a networking tool, allowing participants to interact ahead of the Convention. Many attendees formed teams, strategized on earning points, and engaged in playful banter, making the lead-up to the event more enjoyable and dynamic. The game also helped first-time attendees feel more connected before arriving. By engaging with others and exploring

Convention content, they entered the event with familiar faces and valuable insights, enhancing their overall experience.

The Prizes: Rewards Worth Playing For

To keep the stakes high and the competition fierce, we offered an exciting array of prizes. Participants could earn milestone rewards for reaching certain point thresholds, such as exclusive IFA call-outs in our social and email channels. However, the grand prizes were reserved for our top Franchise All Stars.

• Grand Prize Winner: Kristopher Stuart of Bloomin’ Blinds won a luxurious 4-day/3-night all-inclusive Las Vegas exotic car driving experience, including VIP/white glove service and an exclusive helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon!

• 2nd Place Winner: Stuart Germann of Stuart Germann Law Office in Auckland, New Zealand, won a 1-night room comp (including all taxes and fees) at Mandalay Bay, along with a signed copy of Atomic Habits from keynote speaker James Clear.

• Additional Prizes: A meet & greet with an IFA Board Member, a complimentary 1/2 page spread in IFA’s Franchising World magazine, and VIP transportation to Mandalay Bay.

A Winning Formula for Engagement

Franchise All Stars generated enthusiasm, fostered connections, and drove engagement for the IFA Convention. By blending competition with community-building, we created a fun and rewarding way for attendees to be part of something bigger. The energy and momentum carried into the Convention itself, making Franchise All Stars a true game-changer in attendee engagement!

Stay tuned for more exciting and interactive ways to engage before the 2026 IFA Convention in Las Vegas — you won’t want to miss what’s coming next!

HEARD IN THE HALLS

The 2025 IFA Annual Convention brought together a diverse group of industry professionals to discuss the latest trends and innovations in franchising. We connected with some of the 3,800 attendees live in the halls of the Convention, who were eager to share their experiences and offer a unique glimpse into the impact of franchising’s premier event.

Tiffany Martin, Cardinal Coordinator, University of Louisville: “This is my second year at the IFA Convention. This year, I am currently an MBA student at the University of Louisville, and last year I was an undergrad learning my franchise management certificate. The IFA Convention is amazing, it is my inspiration for my future. I would like to teach, train, and develop future generations, making franchising a common goal for people rather than most success stories that the franchisor/franchisee fell into it. Franchising is inspiring, a whole community of people, and it’s exactly where I want to be.”

Lee Payne, Senior Account Executive, Franchise Ventures: “This is my 18th IFA Convention. I missed the one in 2021 with the virtual show. Great turn out this year, awesome venue, and excited to be here!”

Brandon Clifford, CEO, Business Alliance, Inc.: “This is my fourth IFA Convention. It’s been a great turn out and great show so far!”

Trevor McGinness, Managing Director, ConnectBridge: “We’ve been members of the IFA for the last five years. It is our first time exhibiting and we’re here to provide exceptional leave administration services for all the members of IFA.”

David Zyck, Senior Enterprise Customer Success Manager, Motive: “Motive is a new member as of just a few weeks ago and we are excited to be here as making a concretive focus into the franchise space. We have been told this is the industry event to come to, so a lot of great networking and exposure so far. Thrilled to be here!”

Chandler Hayden, CFE, Franchise Development Manager, Taco John’s International, Inc. and FAI Cohort: “One thing that I took away was the connections that we’ve made, the kitchen table learnings that we have had an opportunity to participate in, meeting different brands, and different leaders of companies. Also, the FAI cohort members and I have been learning so much from our peers, it’s just been a blessing. The program has been so invaluable and it’s just a dream come true to be chosen for something like this. I cannot wait for my future and to thrive from this all.”

Jasmine Thurston, Franchisee, Wisdom Senior Care and FAI Cohort: “I would definitely join the IFA FAI program because they put in the money, time, effort, and resources. We have met so many different franchisors, franchisees,

multi-unit, mumbos. I mean you probably don’t know what that is because you aren’t in the program yet, but literally before I got into this program it was just amazing. I didn’t know what an FDD was or the operations manual. I have learned so much that it’s just literally breathtaking at how much information, knowledge, and networking that I have gained from being here at the conference, being with the IFA, being with so many mentors. It has been a dream come true!”

Liz Berman, Senior Advertising Specialist, BizBuySell: “We love IFA. We love coming to the IFA Convention. We have great facetime with clients and it’s a wonderful opportunity to be in this space with the whole franchising community. We’ve been a member, supplier, and partner for over a decade and we’re team franchising!”

Karen Booze, CFE, Director of Growth and Development – Relationship Builder, AnswerConnect: “AnswerConnect has been a member with the IFA for eight years and for four years we’ve been a preferred vendor. It is the best money we’ve spent and the best relationships we’ve ever built.”

Stewart Germann, Principal, Stewart Germann Law Office: “I’ve been a member of the IFA for 25+ years, and I love the IFA! I am a member because it’s international and I do a lot of international franchise attorney transactions, also a qualified mediator. I love these conventions, I come to the Legal Symposium in May that the IFA runs and I’m a great supporter.”

Matthew Montoya, Sr. Manager, Indirect Customer Ops and Success, Constant Contact: “Constant Contact is a 20-year member of the IFA. We are excited to be involved with the IFA and so honored to be working with the franchises that belong to IFA and so honored that the IFA does all that they do to help lift all franchisors and franchisees up! Constant Contact is proud to be a key component to the franchise ecosystem, helping franchisors control their marketing while offering the franchisees an easy-to-use solution that they will adopt.”

Katie Anders, Sales Rep, FM Flow and Ava Pappas, Sales Rep, FM Flow: “FM Flow is a technology CRM platform for the service industry for franchises and is a sponsor. It’s our first time at the Convention, and we’re having a great time. Our biggest takeaway is there are so many amazing people to network with and this is such a great opportunity. It is a great community!”

James Roussos, Franchise Business Consultant, Chicken Salad Chick: “Being it’s my first time at Convention, I highly recommend. As a matter of fact, one of my franchisees this morning I talked to, I told him about this and will get him connected. Without a doubt, I will be here next year.”

Josie Van Scholten, Managing Partner, Valenta: “This is my first IFA event. It has been super exciting, and it’s really helped me see the bigger picture and how all the pieces work together. I’m learning the different perspectives from suppliers, franchisors, and franchisees and how they all work together to make this industry so amazing!”

Aren Johnstone, CEO, Franchise Ramp: “We are a creative and marketing agency founded for franchisees by franchisees. We have been a member of IFA and coming to IFA for over six years now. It’s the first franchise event of the year and it really kicks off the year for us. We get to see all our familiar faces, clients, potential new customers, vendor partners, and every year we learn something new. We plan on coming to IFA for many years into the future and are really excited about the opportunity to get together at the biggest franchising event of the year.”

THE FRANCHISE ASCENSION INITIATIVE: INAUGURAL CLASS RECAP

In February 2024, during the International Franchise Association’s (IFA) Annual Convention, David Humphrey, IFA’s former Chairman, announced the launch of the Franchise Ascension Initiative (FAI).

This six-month accelerator program aims to provide individuals from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged communities with the education, mentorship, and resources to pursue a successful career in franchise ownership. The program, which was met with excitement, marks a transformative moment in franchise education and inclusivity.

FAI co-founders, Omar and Raynya Simmons, shared their personal story and vision for the program. Raised in Boston without visible entrepreneurial role models, Omar’s journey began in a working-class family and eventually led him to Princeton University and Harvard Business School. After years in private equity, Omar, alongside his wife Raynya, took the leap into franchise ownership by acquiring 15 Planet Fitness locations. Over time, they grew the business to over 100 locations before selling in 2021. Omar attributes his success to the franchise model, which allowed him to learn from others and benefit from a built-in support network.

The FAI was developed with the support of IFA’s leadership, board members, and volunteers. The program officially opened for applications in May 2024, receiving over 100 inquiries and 70 completed applications. After a thorough review, 17 candidates were selected for the inaugural class, which was diverse in gender and experience — comprising of nine men, eight women, and two U.S. veterans, all from 14 different states. Over the next six months, the inaugural class spent more than 10 hours each week on intensive franchise education, working closely with mentors from IFA member companies who are industry experts and provided one-on-one coaching.

The FAI program officially launched in-person in September at the IFA Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., where participants made valuable connections that laid the foundation for a strong, supportive network. In November, the class traveled to Austin, TX, for the Emerging Franchisor Conference, where they learned from franchisors with fewer than 100 units, broadening their understanding of the diverse opportunities within franchising. The program culminated in February 2025 at the IFA Convention in Las Vegas, where participants delivered capstone remarks reflecting on their experiences and future goals.

After the final presentations at the IFA Convention, FAI co-founder, Omar Simmons shared his thoughts. “The stories of personal growth and commitment were truly inspiring. The thoughtfulness of the FAI graduates’ initial business plans were also quite impressive. We all can feel proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and I can’t wait to see what each of these talented class members achieve.”

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce that applications for the next class of aspiring franchisees are now open, with a deadline of Friday, May 16, 2025. The next cohort will begin in August 2025, continuing the journey of growth and opportunity, with the program concluding at the 2026 IFA Convention in Las Vegas. In conclusion, IFA is excited and believes that the Franchise Ascension Initiative is more than just an educational program — it is a catalyst for change. By providing more people with the tools, resources, and mentorship they need, FAI is helping to break barriers in franchising and promote a more inclusive and diverse industry. We would like to give a special thank you to our FAI donors, mentors, and course presenters. We are excited about our progress and look forward to great results in the future.

FRANCHISING GIVES BACK: CELEBRATING COMMUNITY

IMPACT AT THE IFA CONVENTION

The Franchising Gives Back (FGB) initiative continues to shine a light on the incredible ways franchises support their communities.

At this year’s International Franchise Association (IFA) Convention, the Franchising Gives Back Gallery proudly showcased 38 inspiring stories submitted by various franchise brands, each illustrating their commitment to giving back.

Fourteen standout stories were displayed on pull-up banners throughout the Convention, offering attendees a chance to read about the meaningful contributions franchises are making. The remaining submissions were featured in a rotating digital display, ensuring all stories received recognition. These efforts not only celebrated the charitable impact of franchises but also inspired leaders to continue prioritizing community engagement.

The commitment to highlighting these efforts doesn’t end with the Convention. Throughout the year, FGB will feature these stories in the ‘Service Spotlight of the Month’ section of the IFA Foundation newsletter. This initiative ensures that the outstanding work of franchises remains in the spotlight and serves as a continuous source of inspiration for others in the business model.

Beyond the Convention, the spirit of giving was brought to life through a generous initiative benefiting students and families at Rundle Elementary School. A total of $1,200 worth of food and clothing items were donated by 12 compassionate individuals, ensuring that children and families in need receive essential support. In addition to these contributions, the IFA made a significant impact by donating an extra $1,000 to the school.

While in Las Vegas, representatives from FGB had the opportunity to tour

Rundle Elementary and meet with students, witnessing firsthand the difference these contributions make. The school’s Closet for Good, a resource that provides students with free clothing and necessities, was already filling up with donations from the IFA community. This initiative exemplifies the power of the franchise business model to foster meaningful change and uplift communities in need.

This initiative exemplifies the power of the franchise business model to foster meaningful change and uplift communities in need.”

The ongoing commitment of franchise brands to philanthropy and community service is a testament to the business model’s dedication to making a difference. Through the Franchising Gives Back program and initiatives like the Rundle Elementary Wish-List, franchises are not only building successful businesses but also strengthening the communities they serve. As these inspiring stories continue to be shared, they will undoubtedly encourage others to join the mission of giving back and making a lasting impact.

Continuing Support for Rundle Elementary

FGB is committed to sustaining its support for Rundle Elementary School. Donations of food, clothing, and other essential supplies will continue to be accepted until June 1. IFA UNVEILS REIMAGINED BRAND AS PART OF STRATEGIC VISION TO MAKE 2025 THE “YEAR OF FRANCHISING”

The International Franchise Association (IFA) has embarked on an exciting new chapter with the launch of a reimagined brand identity.

This transformation is a crucial component of IFA’s broader strategic vision for 2025, designed to propel franchising into the future while staying true to its rich history and unwavering commitment to franchise success. The new branding embodies IFA’s mission to protect, enhance, and promote franchising, reinforcing its role as the leading advocate and trusted resource for the franchise business model.

A Modern Evolution Rooted in Tradition

The goal was to create a look, feel, and voice that reflects both its legacy and its vision for the future. A brand identity that encapsulates the power of franchising and highlights the impact of local franchise owners, who collectively contribute 3 percent of the U.S. GDP.

The result is a brand that is strong, timeless, and trustworthy — qualities that have long defined IFA. The new logo features bright, bold colors and classic typography that convey resilience and trust. It illustrates IFA’s dedication to being a guiding force for franchise professionals, ensuring they have the tools and resources to succeed.

Symbolism in the New IFA Logo

The lowercase “i” in the logo symbolizes an information beacon, reflecting IFA’s dedication to being a trusted and objective resource for franchise information. Whether providing educational tools, advocating for franchisefriendly policies, or supporting local business owners, IFA continues to be the definitive voice for franchising.

A key feature of the reimagined logo is the incorporation of a dot/circle, a modern nod to the previous globe icon. This

design choice reinforces IFA’s global reach while symbolizing inclusivity and community — core tenets of the franchise business model. The dot/circle carries additional significance, representing the fundamental franchise principle: “In business for yourself, but not by yourself.” The dot, which is distinctly colored from the rest of the logo, signifies the individuality of franchise entrepreneurs. However, its placement within the overall design underscores the importance of connection, support, and the larger franchise ecosystem that helps businesses thrive.

A Brand Built for the Future

The refreshed branding isn’t just a new look — it’s a statement about where IFA is headed. As part of its 2025 vision, IFA remains focused on advancing the franchise business model and ensuring that franchise owners have the support they need to grow. The brand refresh positions IFA to better tell the stories of the countless entrepreneurs and local franchise owners who bring economic strength and job creation to communities across the country.

The new brand was officially revealed onstage at the 2025 IFA Annual Convention in Las Vegas, by Matt Haller, IFA’s President & CEO, marking a pivotal moment in IFA’s journey. Attendees witnessed the unveiling of the logo in a presentation that showcased its meaning, evolution, and the exciting direction for IFA moving forward.

By blending modern aesthetics with a timeless message, the new IFA brand reinforces its promise to be the premier resource for franchising. As the franchise landscape continues to evolve, IFA stands firm in its mission, offering guidance, advocacy, and opportunity to franchise owners and aspiring entrepreneurs alike.

With this rebranding, IFA honors its past, embraces the present, and looks forward to an even brighter future — one where franchising remains a powerful and accessible business model for entrepreneurs everywhere.

Heather Bartlow is the senior director, head of creative for the International Franchise Association.

SHARING, FINANCING, AND MORE: EFFECTIVE WAYS TO SUPPORT VETERANS IN FRANCHISING

Dream vacations, power tools, fashion glasses — VetFran is responsible for an unexpected mix of businesses developed in part by the initiative’s mission to create pathways from service to business ownership.

VetFran celebrated all the businesses under its umbrella during an amazing week at IFA’s Team Franchising Convention 2025.

During the reception, IFA members honored Veterans, shared updates on new partnerships and progress made in 2024, and thanked the 2025 VetFran sponsors at the Convention’s VetFran reception. Thanks to EverSmith brands for hosting!

Brands got specific tips on how to increase commitment to Veterans and help ease the way for more Veterans to get involved in franchising in a special session sponsored by Neighborly. If you’re looking for ideas, there are many ways to give back to our Veterans.

• Highlight Veterans in national publications.

• Offer favorable in-house financing.

• Partner with local military installations and Veteran service organizations.

It’s also helpful to get the word out. Share Veteran successes across social media platforms, advertise Veteran programs and incentives, and create a Veteran resource group within your brand.

Look for VetFran in the News

VetFran is making headlines, and will be featured in Boots to Business, Boots to Business Reboot and Military Spouse Pathways curriculum. In person, IFA VetFran member brands will pilot a brown bag lunch program featuring a

successful Veteran franchisee. If you want to be considered, reach out to Wendy Kunz for more details at wkunz@franchise.org

Alert: New Tools Available

Get a first look at the developing VetFran member toolkit, which now includes a media kit, helpful VetFran slides, and tips on creating a military friendly brand. Get tips from the best in the business in the new toolkit. The Veteran Education is up and running with webinars and live in-person events with our military partners. Make sure your VetFran contact info is up to date for related news and updates.

None of this would be possible without support, and we want to include a very special thank you to our 2025 sponsors.

HOME SERVICES FRANCHISE INDUSTRY OUTLOOK FOR 2025

As of 2024, of the 523 active brands in the franchised home service industry, 50 percent belonged to the home maintenance sector, 36 percent offered home improvement and remodeling services while 14 percent serviced emergency and restoration clients.

The home services industry broadly encompasses three related sectors – home improvement (renovations, construction, interior/ exterior design, painting, carpentry, etc.) home maintenance (plumbing, cleaning, electrical and handyman repairs, etc.) and home restoration (general and emergency services). Within the home remodeling segment, businesses often offer specialized services concentrating on a specific type of project such as closet or bath upgrades. Conversely, general maintenance companies tend to offer more comprehensive services allowing their personnel to complete diverse tasks that can even include small-scale remodels.

Home Services’ Consolidation Drives Cross-Selling Opportunities and Investor Interest

The diversity in the home services industry has increased opportunities for cross-selling and expansion of service offerings amongst complementing brands and enhanced its resilience to economic downturns.

Since individual franchised brands in the sector are limited and fragmented, consolidations of different concepts to form platform companies have attracted increasing interest from investors. For instance, Authority Brands, which had its start in 2017, received an investment from Apax Partners in 2018, and has grown from two to 15 home service brands. The industry has subsequently attracted considerable mergers & acquisitions (M&A) activity in recent years.

In 2024, not only did BELFOR Franchise Group add JUNKCO+ to its portfolio, Threshold Brands and EverSmith Brands also expanded their presence in the industry with the acquisition of Miracle Method and Prism Specialties, respectively. The ongoing consolidation/investment efforts by private equity firms are transforming the industry, creating larger, more efficient entities that benefit from economies of scale and increased market share, allowing business owners from the same platform company to provide customers with end-to-end services.

Home Services’ Trends, Challenges, and Growth Prospects in a Changing Economic Landscape

Although the industry is typically recognized to be recession proof due to the constant demand and permanent need for skilled home services, it is also closely linked and affected by the residential real estate activity and markets. During and immediately post pandemic, due to the unprecedented growth in the homeownership rates, the demand for home services grew significantly, with average unit revenues peaking

in 2022, as property owners sought home improvements to increase resale values. Work from home conditions also encouraged consumer interest in the upgrade and maintenance of their living environments. But in 2023 and 2024, due to the high mortgage rates and unyielding inflation, demand for home services declined as consumer spending shifted away from non-critical home improvement services to more essential expenses.

Looking ahead in 2025, improving financial conditions such as a strong labor market, rising home equity

values and lower inflation are expected to make home improvement projects more affordable for consumers. Roughly 60 percent of millennial and Gen-Z respondents, according to the 2024 Harris Williams Home Services Survey, reported being more inclined towards outsourcing home services than favoring DIY options due to less homeowner free time, DIY interest, and more discretionary income. Stabilizing interest and borrowing rates will also likely encourage recommencement of delayed/ postponed residential construction

projects as well as improve existing home sales (projected by National Association of Realtors to cross 4.5 million in 2025) boosting overall investments in the home improvement segment. Moreover, the increase in the frequency of natural disasters and weather-related damages owing to climate changes is likely to spur growth for preventive maintenance and emergency restoration services. Additionally, according to KPMG’s Home Services Industry Update Report, the average age of houses has continued to increase to 47 years. With an aging housing stock, there will be a long-term need for professional upkeep and repair services. Finally, more tech-savvy homeowners are prioritizing the use of energy efficient smart home technologies such as intuitive lighting, automated thermostats and remotely controlled security features driving the demand for skilled home services. According to the IFA 2025 Franchising Economic Outlook Report, the number of establishments in the commercial and residential sector (which is dominated by franchised home service businesses) is projected to grow at

a year-over-year rate of 2.4 percent and exceed 85,000 units, while the total output is expected to increase at 4.9 percent to $65.2 billion.

The growth opportunities during the pandemic catalyzed an explosive influx of new brands in the franchised home services industry leading to an upward trajectory in the market. According to FRANdata, the number of new entrants in 2021 and 2022 was approximately 55+ and 60+, respectively, compared to an average of 38 new brands entering the industry annually between 2015 and 2020. The intense competition in the industry not only pressures profit margins but also heightens concerns about labor costs and the availability of qualified technicians, as many companies compete for a limited talent pool. With the older workforce retiring, a declining interest in trade careers continues to limit younger replacements, further worsening the skilled labor shortage. To counter these challenges, franchisors are offering competitive pay, benefits and flexible work hours as well as apprenticeship programs to ensure a well-trained workforce.

Additionally, franchisors have also increasingly leveraged AI and digital resources to address labor challenges and enhance customer management with effective scheduling tools. For instance, in 2024, Authority Brands partnered with ServiceTitan, a leading software platform that aims to power businesses and franchisee networks with the necessary tools to enable efficient data analytics, connect consumers with service providers and maximize business profitability.

Going forward, home service franchises that are incorporating the rising tech-integration and digitization of service offerings are poised to uniquely position themselves in a competitive market while simultaneously catering to evolving consumer preferences.

BLOOMIN’ BLINDS: A LOOK AT THE SHIFTING HOME SERVICES INDUSTRY

The home services industry is experiencing a significant transformation, driven by shifting consumer expectations, emerging technologies, and economic factors.

Valued at over $650 billion, the sector continues to grow, creating abundant opportunities for franchise expansion, investment, and innovation. Bloomin’ Blinds, a leader in the window coverings and shading solutions space, is embracing these changes while staying true to its commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction.

Key Trends Shaping the Home Services Industry

More homeowners are turning to home service providers, with recent

data showing that eight out of 10 homeowners prefer outsourcing maintenance and improvement projects instead of handling them on their own. The demand for services like HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, and custom window treatments is soaring, driven by an aging housing stock and the desire for expert craftsmanship.

Technology is Reshaping the Industry

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and smart home technology is reshaping the way

businesses operate and enhancing the customer experience. From automated scheduling and virtual consultations to AI-driven design tools that help homeowners visualize projects before installation, technology enables home service providers to offer more seamless, efficient, and personalized solutions.

To stay ahead in this fastchanging environment, franchisors are adopting these technological advancements with innovative tools that increase operational efficiency and boost profit margins, all while keeping the human connection at the heart of their business.

A Shift Toward Sustainable Solutions

Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword — it’s a driving force in the industry. Eco-conscious consumers are seeking energy-efficient home upgrades, from solar-powered solutions to sustainable materials. At Bloomin’ Blinds, we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for energy-saving window treatments, as homeowners look for ways to lower their energy costs and reduce their environmental footprint.

A Labor Market in Flux

One of the ongoing challenges in the home services industry is the shortage of skilled labor. Companies are investing in training programs, apprenticeships, and competitive benefits to attract and retain top talent. Franchise businesses like Bloomin’ Blinds have an edge in this competitive market, offering structured support systems and career development opportunities for workers who want long-term, stable careers. This ensures a steady supply of qualified technicians, ready to serve homeowners across the country.

Challenges and Opportunities

While the home services sector is thriving, it faces its share of challenges. Rising material costs, fluctuating interest rates, and inflationary pressures are all driving up operational expenses. At the same time, consumers are

adjusting their spending habits, with some opting to delay non-essential upgrades in favor of critical repairs. Despite these challenges, there’s still plenty of room for growth. Franchising remains a strong model for scaling home service businesses, offering aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to enter the market with the backing of a proven system. The home improvement market is resilient; many homeowners are choosing to invest in upgrades rather than relocate, especially in light of high mortgage rates. This shift ensures a steady flow of demand.

The Future of Home Services

As we look to the future, the home services industry will continue to evolve with technological

advancements, changing consumer behaviors, and economic fluctuations. Companies that prioritize innovation, operational efficiency, and a customerfirst mindset will be well-positioned for long-term success. For brands like Bloomin’ Blinds, staying ahead of these trends means offering not only high-quality products but also the expert service homeowners expect.

One thing is clear: the need for trusted, skilled professionals in the home services sector is not going away. The businesses that embrace change, invest in technology, and remain deeply committed to customer service will continue to thrive for years to come.

THE STATE OF THE HOME SERVICES INDUSTRY: OPPORTUNITIES AND TRENDS

As U.S. home improvement spending is projected to reach a staggering $477 billion in 2025, the home services industry finds itself at a pivotal moment.

The sector’s remarkable growth is driven by a surge in demand for home maintenance, repairs, and aesthetic enhancements. For home service franchises, this presents not just an opportunity but a pathway to build resilient and scalable businesses in an industry proven to withstand economic downturns.

One of the primary reasons for the booming home services market is the shifting mindset of homeowners. Many are opting to renovate rather than relocate, choosing to enhance their current properties instead of navigating a volatile real estate market. This trend has opened the door for franchise brands to thrive, offering services that improve comfort, functionality, and curb appeal.

For entrepreneurs, franchising offers a structured approach to entering this robust market. The franchise model provides business owners with a proven blueprint for success, access to established branding, and ongoing support — critical

components for anyone looking to scale their business. By joining a franchise network, business owners can leverage existing brand recognition and benefit from centralized marketing strategies, which are especially valuable in localized service industries.

Scalability is another key advantage. Home service franchises often have the flexibility to start with a single territory and expand over time. This scalability allows franchisees to grow at their own pace, adapting to market demand while minimizing risk. Whether it’s lawn care, home cleaning, or renovation services, the ability to add new territories and services enhances long-term growth potential.

Innovation is also shaping the industry’s future. Many franchises are adopting new technologies to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction. For example, digital tools that streamline scheduling, offer transparent pricing, and provide real-time service updates are becoming industry standards. Embracing

technology not only improves the customer experience but also enables franchisees to operate more efficiently, ultimately boosting profitability.

As a multi-unit owner with Weed Man, I’ve seen firsthand how a commitment to quality and innovation can drive success. Our brand has thrived by staying ahead of market trends and focusing on delivering exceptional service. The same principles apply across the broader home services industry — businesses that prioritize customer needs, invest in innovation, and adapt to changing market conditions will lead the way.

The home services sector is ripe with opportunity for those ready to take the leap. By aligning with a strong franchise system, entrepreneurs can tap into a resilient and growing market, building businesses that not only withstand economic challenges but thrive through them. As we move further into 2025, the outlook for home service franchises remains bright, offering a promising path for business owners who recognize the potential of this dynamic industry.

FEATURED FRANCHISEES

The International Franchise Association is proud to celebrate our franchisee members. See below to learn more about some of our Featured Franchisees — why they got into franchising, their unique backgrounds and how they contribute to their local communities.

Lee Sheridan, Two Maids MultiUnit Franchisee, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake/Norfolk, Virginia

Lee Sheridan took a leap of faith when he transitioned from insurance claims to entrepreneurship. For him, leaving corporate America was both his toughest challenge and most rewarding decision. Drawing upon his leadership experiences, Lee traded in his managerial work to embark on a solo journey in franchising — eventually becoming a multi-unit franchise owner of Two Maids in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake/Norfolk, where he

now finds purpose in providing relief through home service. During his corporate days, Lee and his family’s busy schedules led them to seek out household assistance to help keep up with their active lifestyles. Recognizing the demands faced by busy households, Lee invested in Two Maids to make these offerings more accessible in his community. Anchored in a region marked by a significant military presence, Lee’s franchise caters to the unique needs of service members, offering custom cleanings, military discounts and service giveaways, which the Two Maids brand wholly supports. Additionally, Lee’s dedication to community service extends to cancer patients in his area, too, alleviating the burden of household chores with free cleaning services during challenging times. With the ability to own and operate his own business while giving back in so many ways, Lee knows his decision to depart from the corporate world and join a brand that aligns with his own values was the right one. Lee’s experience highlights the transformative impact of entrepreneurship, showing how a major career switch, although daunting, can ultimately be the spark for profound personal and professional growth.

Carolyn Williams, The Bar Method Multi-Unit Franchisee, Vancouver, British Columbia

Carolyn Williams believes preventative health is integral to her lifestyle and community’s well-being. Hailing from the Bay Area, Williams’ journey into preventative health began when she discovered The Bar Method, a high-repetition, barre-focused strength training routine, from friends and coworkers. During a class with her mother, who was recovering from breast cancer, she witnessed the workout’s transformative effects. Inspired by her mother’s resilience and the studio’s tightknit community, Williams became a dedicated attendee, recognizing how the workouts enhanced her overall fitness and complemented her passion for marathon running. After relocating to Vancouver for a job, William’s faced a challenge – there were no Bar Method locations nor similar workout studios in British Columbia. Undeterred, Williams took a leap of faith and became the brand’s first international franchise owner. Leaving her corporate role behind, she transformed her garage into a makeshift studio while searching for a retail space. Now, Williams operates three thriving Bar Method studios in the greater Vancouver area. She credits her success to hard work, perseverance and a phenomenal staff, underscoring how her knack for recruiting and retaining top-notch personnel has fueled her expansion. Beyond business success, Williams remains dedicated to greater community welfare. For the past 13 years, her studios have organized holiday food drives to support Vancouver Food Bank, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to empower individuals. She takes pride in being a franchise owner and the profound impact her studios have had across British Columbia.

FEATURED FRANCHISEES

Karl and Jennifer Neumaier, Celebree School Franchisees, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Karl Neumaier and his wife Jennifer signed on as franchisees with Celebree School in 2022. Combining Karl’s business acumen with Jennifer’s background in daycare and teaching, their leadership, dedication to education, and commitment to the community drive their business forward.

Prior to his franchising journey, Karl spent over 30 years in various operations and logistics positions.

Seeing the gap in their local market for quality early childhood education, Karl and Jennifer connected with Celebree School and its promise to “Grow People Big and Small™.” With their first school opening this year, the duo signed a multi-unit franchising agreement to bring two additional schools to Tulsa over the next three years. Their goal is to help provide children and families with the necessary foundation they need to succeed, as well as provide team members with a successful path for growth in their careers.

Karl views his workplace as an extension of his community, bringing the same passion and commitment he has for his business to giving back. A dedicated father, husband, and businessman, Karl is deeply involved in supporting nonprofits including co-chairing the 2023 Tulsa Area United Way campaign raising $25.9M, as well as board member of organizations like Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma and the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce. Outside of Celebree School, Karl is an executive coach and an adjunct professor and mentor for students at the University of Tulsa.

Ginger Herrington, AtWork Franchisee, Jacksonville, Florida

Ginger Herrington opened her AtWork franchise in Jacksonville in April 2024 but has been in the staffing industry for more than 30 years – including leadership roles for a competitor. Growing up in a family of business owners, she always dreamed of running her own company. A corporate restructuring gave her the push she needed to make that dream a reality.

Her deep knowledge of Jacksonville’s workforce needs, including in the logistical, hospitality, and construction industries, sets her apart. She understands the unique challenges local businesses face and provides tailored staffing solutions that drive long-term success. In less than a year, she has already made her mark by securing 28 new clients—one of the highest growth rates in the entire franchise system—and minimizing her turnover rate to below the industry average.

Coming from Corporate America, Ginger gravitated towards AtWork for its family-business-like model and the brand’s value for its close relationships between the franchisor and franchisees and clients and owners. She already plans to expand with a second office in the next year.

Her advice to others looking to jump into franchising? Seek diverse perspectives and mentorship. “We’re stronger together,” she says. “Don’t be afraid to jump in.”

GINGER HERRINGTON
KARL NEUMAIER

Jennifer Martin, Little Caesars Multi-Unit Franchisee, St. Joseph, Missouri

Little Caesars is more than a business for franchise owner Jennifer Martin – it’s a family legacy. After her father’s 26 years in the Air Force, he transitioned into franchising, opening two Little Caesars in St. Joseph, MO. Inspired by her parent’s commitment to the franchise, Jennifer joined the family business in 1995, shortly after graduating college.

“I watched my parents work harder than ever. They were amazing parents, and I wanted to help contribute to the development of the business,” Jennifer recalls.

What was initially a temporary plan evolved into a lifelong career. Today, 36 years later, Jennifer is the franchise owner, successfully leading the restaurants’ operations with a strong emphasis on family and community values. She has built such close ties with her employees that you may find her cheering them on at sporting events. Jennifer has also woven Little Caesars into the community, providing pizzas to the district’s new teacher orientation annually and partnering with the university’s athletic department.

It’s coming full circle for Jennifer as her son begins working in the restaurant, dipping his toes into the family business. She remains committed to fostering a supportive workplace and giving back—proudly carrying forward what her parents started.

Melanie Jorgenson, Beans & Brews Multi-Unit Franchisee, Vernal, Utah

For Melanie Jorgenson, becoming a multi-unit franchise owner with Beans & Brews Coffeehouse — a growing Utah-based coffee house brand known for its specialty coffee drinks and proprietary High-Altitude Roasting™ process — was a full-circle moment.

As a single mom, Melanie wanted to build a better future for herself and her son. When he started kindergarten, she started college, balancing full-time work and studies. By the time he graduated high school, she had earned an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, and an MBA, all with the help of her favorite study spot: Beans & Brews.

“I needed a place to focus, and my local Beans & Brews became my go-to,” Melanie recalls. “The atmosphere was so welcoming, and even the smell of the coffee brings back those nostalgic coffeehouse vibes. It became my office where I powered through homework.”

Years later, that coffee house that fueled her studies became something even more, her own business.

Melanie owns and operates a Beans & Brews in the beautiful mountain town of Vernal, Utah, has a second location in Lindon, and a third in the works for 2026. She loves how the brand balances modern convenience, including drive-thru’s and an easy-to-use app, with the welcoming atmosphere of a true community coffeehouse. Her stores are gathering places, always filled with familiar faces, new connections, and a warm, welcoming vibe.
