In un grande giardino naturale sulle colline del Chianti tra Firenze, Siena e Arezzo, fra boschi di querce secolari, oliveti e prati, vive un antica casa colonica fatta di pietra.

Surrounded by centuries-old oaks, olive groves and meadows, the ancient stone farmhouse lies nestled in the Chianti hills between Florence, Siena and Arezzo, in a vast natural garden.

La casa appare all’improvviso, in una grande radura circondata da querce secolari.

The house emerges unexpectedly, from a large clearing surrounded by ancient oaks.

La casa vive del giardino e il giardino vive della casa come una simbiosi.

La Selva Giardino del Belvedere, è situata, su un crinale dei monti del Chianti, che guarda la valle dell’Arno, tra due borri, uno del Pozzo ai Diavoli e l’altro di Rimaggio. Si estende per circa 13 ettari, anche se fa parte di un complesso naturalistico molto più ampio, ed è formato in gran parte da querceto, vecchi oliveti e prati.

Questi terreni, dove la natura ha ridistribuito tutto ciò che le pareva, senza che nessuno pensasse di contrastarla, sono perfetti per un giardino, il pensiero, insieme al cammino, viaggia libero, senza costrizioni, con la misura della natura che è sempre vera e non subisce tendenze o mode.

Sono passati molti anni, da quando pieno di meraviglia ed emozione trascorrevo le domeniche a ripulire questi terreni, abbandonati da oltre 35 anni.

Pensavo che forse un domani, qui poteva nascere un giardino, un luogo dove vai a studiare la natura, con il piacere della conoscenza insieme all’emozione.

Stiamo classificando le piante dei vari terreni che sono tante, specialmente le erbacee, ed i funghi, sono moltissimi, a poco a poco la classificazione crescerà.

L’idea che muove tutto è il rispetto del luogo, i nostri interventi si limitano a restaurare ciò che c’è, senza mai pensare che chi comanda siamo noi; questa filosofia porta serenità e non muove falsi valori.

La Selva Giardino del Belvedere is situated on a knoll that is part of the gentle

slopes of the Chianti hills facing the Arno valley; it is flanked by two streams, the Pozzo ai Diavoli and the Rimaggio. Extending over 32 acres, the land is largely covered by groves of oaks, ample meadows, and olive trees from long ago.

This place, where nature has created her own world with advice from no one, is perfect for a garden. One’s thoughts and steps wander freely with no constrictions, within the measure of nature, forever authentic and never subject to fashions or trends.

Many years have passed since, full of wonder and new emotions, I spent my Sundays clearing and reclaiming the land that had been abandoned for more than 35 years. My idea was to create, one day, a garden, a place to study nature, combining the pleasure of knowledge with that of tangible emotions.

We have begun classifying the vegetation of the different types of terrain present on the property and the varieties are vast, especially those of grasses and mushrooms. Such work is a long slow process.

Respect for the existing habitat is the main premise behind all of our interventions that are limited to restoring what is already present, without ever presuming that it is the hand of man who commands. This philosophy imparts serenity and does not promote false values.

Ecco la nostra famiglia!

Paolo, Anna, Francesco e Andrea Cioncolini; da oltre 20 anni ci dedichiamo a questo luogo con grande passione, perchè La Selva è veramente speciale.

La nostra principale residenza è a Montevarchi dove siamo nati, a soli 7 Km di distanza.

Our family, Paolo, Anna, Francesco and Andrea Cioncolini, has passionately dedicated time and care to La Selva for the last 20 years.

Our principal residence is in Montevarchi, where we were born, just 5 miles away.

Si entra nel giardino salendo una piccola strada che si snoda tra la vegetazione,

all’improvviso appare la casa nel mezzo dell’aia, attorniata da molte grandi querce, una pluricentenaria; di lato l’oliveto, dalle altre parti il querceto e due stradelle una per il Campo d’Erboli e una per il Pianello, Arzoli, quindi Montegonzi. L’aia e la casa sono raccolte come da un anfiteatro di querce ed i suoni e le luci sono dolci, dalla casa si vede, dalla parte dell’oliveto il Pratomagno con tutti i suoi colori ed il Valdarno con tutte le sue luci; di lato e davanti tra i rami delle querce si intravedono: Montegonzi, Poggio San Marco, Moncioni, Casa Migliarina, La Selva ed altre case coloniche sparse.

Le Pozze Sono nel bosco subito sopra la casa, una è più grande e l’altra più piccola, d’inverno spesso vi ho trovato una coppia di germani reali, specialmente nella grande, e qualche volta anche una beccaccia; ho lasciato volutamente le pozze molto infrascate per favorire la sosta degli animali. Nell’acqua si trovano vari insetti, ditischi, notonette, ecc. e sul fondo camminano i tritoni cristati e le salamandre dalla pancia gialla, l’acqua delle pozze è sempre molto scura perché sono circondate da querce e tutti gli autunni vi cadono le foglie. Ho sempre pensato, che d’estate, quando le pozze si asciugano, la coltre di foglie tenga umido il terreno al di sotto permettendo a tritoni e salamandre di salvarsi. Sulle sponde che scendono ripide sull’acqua, c’è una grande macchia di rovo che produce ottime more e alcuni olmi destinati a rimanere cespugli, un vecchio lillà, e più sopra di lato, delle belle piante di bosso molto vecchie, che mi fanno pensare a chi le ha piantate, e perché? Penso che sia per la bellezza, ma anche per l’utilità, essendo il loro legno molto duro e resistente, adatto per fare impugnature di piccoli attrezzi. Vicino all’ acqua crescono giunchi, carici, scirpi ed altre piante di ripa, intorno erica, rose canine, ginepri, ginestre etc. . .

One arrives at the garden winding up a small dirt road through the vegetation. The house appears suddenly in a clearing surrounded by several large oaks, one of which is centuries old.

To one side is the olive grove, on the opposite side is a stand of smaller oaks and two roads. One leading to “Campo d’Erboli” and the other heading towards Pianello, Arzoli and eventually Montegonzi. The house is situated as if at the center of a theatre with large oaks constituting the wings and cornice. Sounds and light are softened against this backdrop and from the house one can see, in the direction of the olive grove, the pre-Apennine spine of Pratomagno with all its colors and the Arno Valley with its lights. In other directions, through the oak branches, one catches glimpses of Montegonzi, Poggio San Marco, Moncioni, Casa Migliarina, La Selva and a few other farm houses.

Le Pozze Located in the woods just above the house are the ponds, one larger than the other. In winter I’ve often found a couple of nesting mallards, especially in the larger pond where I’ve also found a woodcock. I purposely left the ponds immersed in the vegetation in order to favor the roosting of various birds and other animals. The water hosts various insects such as water beetles and boatman, etc. Crawling on the bottom are newts and yellow-bellied salamanders.

The water of the ponds is always dark, given that they are surrounded by oaks whose leaves fill the ponds each autumn. I’ve always imagined that in summer, when the ponds go dry, the bed of leaves remaining keeps the bottom wet permitting the newts and salamanders a safe haven.

On the bank that descends quickly towards the water is a large thicket of blackberry bushes that yields excellent berries, together with a few elms meant to remain bushes, an old lilac and, higher up, a series of beautiful shrubs planted ages ago. I always wonder who planted them and with what specific purpose in mind, probably for beauty but perhaps also for practical reasons since their wood is quite hard and durable, perfect for crafting handles and other small tools.

Close to the water grow rush, sedge and other water bank plants, surrounded by heather, dog rose, juniper, broom etc…

Cocollo E’ il bosco subito sopra le pozze formato da vecchie querce molto contorte, penso dipenda dalla natura rocciosa del sottosuolo. Il sottobosco è formato da grandi eriche, sia arboree che scoparie, ginestre, cisti, rose canine, ginepri, etc . . .

E’ uno dei luoghi preferiti dagli uccelli canori, che il cinguettare si sente nelle stanze di casa, e dal picchio verde che fa dei bellissimi fori nei tronchi delle querce, cantando con il suo verso inconfondibile. D’estate il Cocollo è piuttosto siccitoso e vi sono poche querciole a sostituire quelle vecchie, che purtroppo muoiono ogni tanto.

Il perché si chiami Cocollo non lo sò con esattezza, credo perché è in alto e c’è una bella veduta, molta gente gli dà questo nome.

L’ Oliveta Si trova ad est della casa, ed è formata da vecchi ulivi che stanno recuperando dopo il lungo abbandono e da nuovi olivi, piantati un pò per anno.

Gli olivi sono molto distanti tra di loro, 7 / 8 metri come usava una volta per seminare il terreno tra le file, tra olivo e olivo sulla fila abbiamo piantato due viti, non per produrre vino ma per il piacere di cogliere qualche grappolo, e tra le file lavanda e rosmarino.

I vecchi ceppi degli olivi sono abitati da ramarri dal bellissimo colore smeraldo e da cervi volanti, ed ogni fine primavera è facile vederli sia maschi che femmine ronzare nell’ aria.

Nell’oliveta si trova anche il più bell’acero campestre del giardino, che una volta serviva alle pecore per stare all’ombra della sua chioma molto espansa, tipica simbiosi mutualistica, la pecora usufruisce dell’ombra dell’albero e con le sue fatte concima l’albero che cresce sempre più rigoglioso, poi alcuni giovani cipressi che ho piantato quindici anni fa’, biancospini di due varietà, rose canine, una vecchia e grande erica arborea, alcuni ginepri, ciliegi, cotogni, meli, susini, pomi etc. . .

Cocollo Coccollo is the name of the wood, immediately above the ponds, made up of old twisted oaks, probably a result of the particularly rocky earth in this area.

The underbrush is characterized by large heather shrubs, broom, rock rose, dog rose, juniper etc…

It is one of the preferred areas of songbirds whose chirping pleasantly invades the house, and of the green woodpecker who drills fascinating holes in the trunks of the oaks as he sings his unmistakable verse. In summer the Cocollo is rather dry and few new saplings survive to substitute the old trees that inevitably die with a certain regularity. Why the name Cocollo, I’m not sure. I believe because it is in a high spot with a beautiful view, here spots such as these are often similarly named.

L’ Oliveta The olive grove lies to the east of the house. The old olive trees are recuperating after being abandoned for a long time and are interspersed with new trees which we add at the rate of a few each year. The olive trees are placed at a considerable distance one from the other, around 22 / 26 feets, as was the custom in the past. Space was left between the trees for planting; two grape vines lie between two olive trees, not for producing wine but for the pleasure of picking bunches of grapes. Between the olive and grape rows are lavender and rosemary bushes. The old olive stumps are inhabited by emerald green lizards and flying stag beetles; towards the end of spring one can often see both the males and females buzzing through the air. Amidst the olive trees is the most beautiful country maple of the garden that once lent the shade of its particularly expansive branches to sheep - a typical example of mutually beneficial symbiosis.

The sheep gathered in the tree’s shade, leaving their fertilizing dung which helped the tree grow ever more lush. Nearby are a few young cypresses I planted fifteen years ago, two varieties of hawthorn, dog roses, a large old heather tree, a few juniper, cherry, quince, apple, prune and persimmon trees etc . . .

Tra poggi e borri, in questi terreni sempre abitati fin dall’antichità, dopo molte vicissitudini storiche, oggi vive un giardino naturale.

Nel bosco di querce secolari sopra alla casa, si trova un teatro, in perfetta simbiosi con la natura, formato da pietre naturali del bosco appoggiate le une alle altre, a secco, a formare 5 archi di seduta.

E’ un luogo di particolare suggestione dove si può fare di tutto: teatro, concerti, conferenze e matrimoni; dove si può stare seduti anche per molto tempo senza fare niente di preciso.

In this land, inhabited since ancient times and testimony to the fluctuating tides of history, lies a natural garden.

In the wood of centuries-old oaks above the house, there is a theater in perfect harmony with nature. It was constructed with stones from the nearby woods, arranged one on top of the other, without mortar, forming 5 semi-circular rows of seats for spectators.

The theater is a particularly evocative spot suitable for just about any type of gathering from plays to concerts, conferences and weddings a place also suitable for spending long periods of time with no specific purpose in mind.

La natura e l’arte, madre e figlia, sono il piacere della vita. Nel giardino da alcuni anni vengono realizzate installazioni d’arte ambientale che Paolo cura personalmente con altri artisti. A poco a poco la collezione sta crescendo e passeggiando nel giardino si avverte la sintonia uomo natura, e “il genius loci” ci accompagna.

Nature and art, like mother and daughter, are the pleasures of life. The garden, in recent years, has been host to environmental art installations personally crafted by Paolo together with other artists. Little by little, the art collection is growing, and when strolling through the garden one feels a sense of harmony between man and nature, always accompanied by the place’s special atmosphere.

Il Solatio E’ un campettino subito sotto la vecchia strada, è esposto a sud, da qui il suo nome; vi sono vecchi ulivi, un fosso lungo la strada con dentro una roverella contorta e bizzarra, vi sono anche vecchi aceri, ginepri, biancospini e molti fiori di campo, nel prato tra gli ulivi c’è anche un giovane leccio con tre tronchi.

Greppata E’ il bosco che scende dalla strada che sale alla casa al borrazzolo delle lucciole.

Vi sono alcune grandi querce ricoperte di edera molto vecchia e piene di coccole, molto amate dagli uccelli, nel folto dell’edera dormono gli uccelli notturni.

Essendo il terreno a strapiombo e non percorribile, il luogo ha un aspetto molto selvaggio e particolarmente suggestivo. Dalla strada che sale alla casa, a un certo punto inizia un sentiero che scende al borro delle lucciole e prosegue per Le Mulina; a inizio estate, di sera le lucciole salgono dal borrazzolo verso la casa e spesso ci piace passeggiare nel bosco di notte.

Questa valletta boscosa la chiamiamo valle delle lucciole.

Querciolaia E’ un bel bosco davanti a casa, luminoso, arieggiato, disetaneo, e con molte giovani querciole e ginepri. Vi si trovano alcuni alberi spettacolari, come la querce a fiasco con un grande tronco, da una parte ricoperto di muschio e dall’altro rosicchiato dai cervi volanti, dai cerambici e calabroni gialli dove spesso il picchio vi fà una visita.

Il bosco è percorso da vari sentieri e vi nascono una grande varietà di funghi, russule, gallinacci, porcini e ovoli, etc.. Gli alberi sono esclusivamente varietà di querce roverelle e pochissimi cerri, il sottobosco è formato da: erica, ginestre, cisti, ginepri etc. . . sui rami delle querce vi sono parecchi licheni.

Il Solatio This is a field just below the old road, whose name can be attributed to its southern exposure.

Old olive trees stand here next to a ditch the length of the road with a strangely contorted durmast oak growing in it. Old maples, junipers, hawthorn and a variety of wild flowers also inhabit the field. A young holm-oak with three trunks resides among the olive trees.

Greppata This is the wood that descends from the road that leads to the house to the gully of the fireflies.

There are a few large oaks covered with very old ivy plants full of delicacies prized by the birds; nocturnal birds sleep in the thick of the ivy. The steep terrain, not easily traversed, conserves a particularly sylvan atmosphere.

From the road leading to house there is a trail that descends towards the gully of the fireflies and continues towards Le Mulina. In early summer the fireflies come up from the gully filling the woods around the house. Their presence encourages night walks through the woods.

This small wooded valley is rightly called the valley of the fireflies.

Querciolaia This is a beautiful wood in front of the house; light, airy, populated by many young oak and juniper trees. Several spectacular trees reside here, such as the oak in the form of a flask with a large trunk, with one side covered with moss; the other, where the woodpecker often pays a visit, is covered with grazing stag beetles and yellow bumble bees. The wood is crossed by several trails and is home to a large variety of mushrooms: Chantarelle, Boletus Edulis, Amanita Caesarea. The trees are exclusively varieties of durmast oak with a rare Turkey oak here and there. The underbrush consists of: heather, broom, rock rose, juniper etc. The oak branches host several types of lichens.

Querci d’I Sissi Non conosco il significato del nome, forse Sissi era un boscaiolo, un contadino, o forse un uccellinaio che ci catturava i tordi? Non credo si tratti della principessina Austro Ungarica!

Sono belle querce secolari, tutte più o meno che accompagnano la strada per Arzoli.

La Pozza E’ una pozza che si trova a Nord, sul greppo tra il bosco e il campo di Erboli.

E’ la pozza che tiene l’acqua più a lungo d’estate ed è frequentata dagli animali selvatici, specialmente i cinghiali che vi si rotolano con grande soddisfazione. Il luogo è piuttosto suggestivo; davanti si apre il campo di Erboli, sopra vi è un cerro a più tronchi, veramente bello e di lato c’è una radura abbastanza grande, circondata dal querceto.

Bosco della Passera Bosco misto di querce e pini marittimi, ginepri, scope e ginestre che scende dalla zona più alta del giardino fino al campo di Erboli. Sui pini marittimi vi sono parecchi scoiattoli e ghiri, è un bosco prossimo alle tane del tasso che sono nel bosco del nostro vicino.

Patataio Si chiama così perché era un piccolo campo dove si coltivavano le patate, attualmente vi si trovano parecchie farnie piuttosto belle, alte e diritte, e un sottobosco di felci aquiline, è un posto molto ombroso.

Bacìo Come dice il nome, è una parte del giardino più esposta nord e formata da farnie e poche roverelle, pioppi e saliconi (salix caprea), il sottobosco è quasi nullo a causa della poca luce che vi filtra, è un luogo ricco di funghi e una volta era un campo di grano, alcuni anni fa’ vi ho piantato degli agrifogli e dei noccioli.

Querci d’I Sissi I don’t know the meaning of the name, perhaps Sissi was a woodsman, a farmer or maybe a bird trapper that captured thrushes. I don’t believe it’s a reference to the Austro-Hungarian princess. More or less all of the trees lining the road for Arzoli are beautiful, centuries-old oaks.

La Pozza This is a pond found to the North of the property, on a bank between the wood and the Erboli field. It is the pond that holds water the longest in summer, and it is frequented by wild animals, especially wild boars who gladly roll and frolic in the water. It is a rather inviting spot, with the Erboli field extending in front of the pond; above is a fantastic Turkey oak with multiple trunks, to the side is a rather large clearing surrounded by an oak grove.

Bosco della Passera A wood, composed of a mixed variety of trees such as oaks, cluster pines, juniper trees, broom and brush, it descends from the highest point of the garden and goes as far as the Erboli field.

Among the pines live numerous squirrels and dormice. It is a wood close to the badger’s den found in our neighbors wood.

Patataio So called because it was once a small field for growing potatoes, several beautiful British oak now stand here tall and straight with bracken ferns at their feet. It is a very shady area.

Bacìo As is understood by the name “bacìo”, which means shaded, this is a part of the garden with northern exposure. It is populated by British and durmast oaks, poplars and sallows. There is almost no underbrush due to the scarce light that filters through. The area is rich with mushrooms, and was once a wheat field. Several years ago I planted holly and hazelnut trees.

Campo d’Erboli Un ex vigna e un ex uliveto, ora uno dei luoghi più suggestivi del giardino, in basso grandi farnie, di cui una, la più grande è sul greppo, con una vecchia edera attorcigliata al tronco, che io amo lasciar crescere, perché esprime una forza ambigua vegetale-animale. Nella valletta dove d’inverno scorre l’acqua di disgelo vi sono altre farnie molto belle.

Salendo si arriva al ex uliveto, attualmente grande prato frammisto di pini, farnie, ginepri che sembrano cipressi, biancospini, ornielli, rose canine, felci, eriche, ginestre e pioppi tremuli. Tra i pini si trova una pozza chiamata da noi piscina dei cinghiali, perché spesso vi vanno a fare il bagno e la mattina dopo si vedono tutte le felci acciaccate e piene di fango, poi si strusciano ai pini per grattarsi e lasciano sulla corteccia il segno della melma; alcune volte per il troppo attrito l’albero perde la corteccia. Vi sono anche molti ciliegi, alcuni innestati da Nando, in primavera vi si colgono molte fragole e può capitare la mattina presto di vedere alcuni caprioli o daini al pascolo. Sul confine del campo, c’è un pino marittimo particolare, dove i rametti con gli aghi sono fittissimi e formano come un grande nido abitato (si dice!) da scoiattoli. Da questo campo si può gustare il tramonto tra gli alberi. D’autunno vi sono parecchie specie di funghi compreso il porcino, ma anche la Amanita Phalloides.

Pratini Sono ex campi, freschi anche d’estate, molto adatti per il pascolo e per fare belle passeggiate; nella parte più bassa si trova, la cupola dei glicini formata da 8 varietà diverse, costituita da poco e ancora non d’effetto, ma sicuramente diventerà. La vegetazione si presenta sparsa e vi sono delle giovani querce particolarmente promettenti per forma ed energie. Vi sono anche molti ciliegi selvatici, di cui alcuni, i più giovani sono stati innestati con parecchie varietà da tavola. Vi sono anche, alcuni vecchi meli, che risalgono all’antico podere e molti fossi fatti per la regimazione delle acque.

Campo d’Erboli Previously a vineyard and an olive grove, it is presently one of the more magical places in the garden. In the lower area, there are large British oaks, one of which rises from the bank with an old ivy wrapped around the trunk which I like to leave as is; the natural coupling of the tree and ivy has an ambiguous vegetable/animal force.

In the small valley, where in winter water runs when the freeze thaws, there are other beautiful British oaks. Climbing upwards one arrives at the former olive grove that is now a large field with a mix of pines, British oaks, juniper trees that resemble cypresses, hawthorn, flowering ash, dog rose, ferns, heather, broom, and trembling poplars. Among the pines is a pond we call the boar’s pool because the wild boars often bathe here. In the morning one can find the surrounding ferns crushed and full of mud. The surrounding pines are used as backscratchers where the animals leave the trees’ bark crusted with mud. At times the trees even lose their bark due to this ritual. This area has several cherry trees, some of which were grafted by Nando.

In spring one can pick strawberries, and early in the morning it is possible to spot small deer grazing. On the edge of the field is a cluster pine with particularly thick bunches of needles that seem to form large nests that are said to be inhabited by squirrels! One can enjoy the sunset, seen through the trees, from this field. Autumn brings several species of mushrooms to the area including the “porcino” or Boletus Edulis mushroom and also the Amanita Phalloides.

Pratini Once planting fields, fresh and cool even in summer, they are now perfect for grazing and walks. In the lower area is a domed trellis with 8 different varieties of wisteria. Planted recently it is not yet spectacular but most certainly will be one day. The area is not thick with vegetation but has some young oaks rather promising for their shape and energy. There are also many wild cherry trees. The younger ones have been grafted with several different varieties of tasty fruit. A few old apple trees remain from the past and ditches for regulating water flow run through the fields .

Scopine La zona più alta dei pratini è caratterizzata da pini marittimi, e calluna vulgaris, che in settembre-ottobre diventa un prato fiorito rosa; vi sono anche dei bei ginepri, sia maschi che femmina ed alcuni peri selvatici, in primavera belle fioriture di ginestre.

Campi Sono i terreni orientati ad est / sud-est; in alto vi sono degli ulivi giovani e delle giovani querce assieme a cipressi, appena più in basso molti aceri campestri in ricordo delle vecchie vigne, farnie, roverelle, un boschetto di pioppo bianco, vincaie, rose canine, grandi biancospini. Le pendenze sono ondulate e passeggiando in alcune stagioni si sente lo scrosciare delle acque del borro di Rimaggio. Ricordo che quando ripulii questi terreni dai rovi, alzando delle pietre, uscirono moltissimi granchi, una famiglia da piccoli a grandi. Anche questo è un luogo per passeggiare perché i dislivelli sono dolci e lo sguardo si distende tra gli alberi.

Bosco di Rimaggio E’ il bosco che scende al borro di Rimaggio è caratterizzato da alcune querce secolari molto belle, tra cui una dalla foglia molto fine e dalla ghianda piccolissima. Vicino al borro si trova una vegetazione di ripa (ontani, noccioli, carici, ranuncoli etc. . . ) Nel bosco si trova anche una vecchia cava di pietre.

Scopine The highest area of the “pratini” or small fields is characterized by cluster pines and heather that in September-October covers the field in a blanket of pink. There are also some beautiful juniper trees, both male and female, and a few wild pears; spring sees this area covered with the yellow blossoms of broom.

Campi This terrain is oriented to the east / south-east; in the higher area are young olive and oak trees together with cypresses; just below are many country maples - traces of the old vineyard, British oak, durmast oak, a stand of white poplars, periwinkle, dog rose and large hawthorn bushes. The terrain is sloped and undulating; and in some seasons, one can hear the gurgling of the stream “borro di Rimaggio”.

I remember that when I cleared this area of brambles, upon lifting the stones a multitude of crabs of all sizes scattered in all directions. This is also a nice area for walking because the terrain is not too irregular and one’s gaze extends ahead through the trees.

Bosco di Rimaggio This is the wood that descends towards the stream “borro di Rimaggio”.

It is characterized by a few spectacular ancient oaks, one of which has very fine leaves and tiny acorns. Near the stream one finds a vegetation appropriate to water banks (alder, hazelnut, sedge, ranunculus etc..). This wood also conceals an old stone quarry.
