The project of the art school is divided into a labyrinth of 13 ateliers (hence the name dedalo); we designed the engraving one. The atelier derives from the three-dimensional interpretation of the painting Night in Saint-Cloud by Edvard Munch (1890). The indeterminacy of the space highlights the dark and melancholic atmosphere evoked by the dialogue between materials, lights and shadows. We transposed these sensations in a compressed space and aimed at verticality, without openings, with the function of capturing the visitor in a soft and surreal air bubble, in contrast with the spaces functional to the practice of engraving. It is an exhibition path that goes through the different phases of work to the final product immersed in a space with a mystical character.

LAND SCAPE LODGE S
Museum
Year: 2020
Location: Montechiarugolo, Italy
Type: architectural design
The project area is located within the town of Tortiano, the production hub of the polycentric municipality of Montechiarugolo. In a context in which the natural landscape is a fundamental component to be protected and enhanced, the project translates into a simple and pure volume which by subtraction, through the loggia, opens framing the strengths of the surrounding landscape: the relationship with the main road and the position of the project building which constitutes an architectural backdrop visible from the same road already at the beginning of the village; the countryside crossed by the Enza stream to the east; finally, the Apennine mountains to the south. Traveling along the different floors, the loggia is oriented towards ever-changing views, which capture and take the visitor by surprise, in the rediscovery of the values of a consolidated territory.
CULTUR AL READY MADE
Pavilions
Year: 2021
Location: Milan, Italy
Type: conceptual project
In a dynamic territory, rich of different ethnic groups, traditions and “rituals”, the theme of culture is the founding element of the project, becoming an opportunity to redevelop the suburbs of Milan. In a society in constant evolution, culture has been translated over time into incrisingly infinite forms that include habits and uses related to everyday life and far from the classic “museum” examples. Looking at the neighbourhood at a closer scale, you can detect specific interests and shared activities, from cooking to gardening and sports; these constitute cultural constellations whose poles are specific urban cores in which the community recognizes itself and builds a unitary identity. The project therefore results in specific micro-architectures, bottom-up, aimed at enhancing these attitudes, in dialogue with the complex context and of which the director/protagonist is the community itself.

Social Housing
Year: 2022
Location: Milan, Italy
Type: interior design
The social housing project fits into the southwest suburbs of Milan, in the Lorenteggio district, with the aim of restoring a better quality of life in the area and experimenting with new ways of living in the house. The project aims to establish a dialogue with the neighborhood, therefore the new residences are flanked by common spaces dedicated to moments of sharing and socializing among the inhabitants. The increase in open spaces and the presence of greenery constitutes another important point of the project as spaces for equipped public and private relaxation in the open air are envisaged. The strong point of the intervention is linked to the theme of environmental, economic and social sustainability: the design choices have been studied on the basis of an extreme flexibility of the housing units and declined in permeable and reversible materials, which reduce the effect of heat islands.

Nursery school
Year: 2023
Location: Milan, Italy
Type: interior design
The nursery school designed is located in the western suburbs of the city of Milan. Nowadays, educational spaces are becoming increasingly innovative by experimenting with forms of education that go beyond traditional frontal lessons and involve the different senses of the human body, unknown to young users. In this sense, the project seeks multi-scale spatial solutions to respond to the needs of the child, integrating sensory experiences through laboratories that differ in terms of quality of light, material textures and colours. An important role is played by the open spaces that host activities in contact with nature and with the aim of developing a greater awareness of one’s own body in the child. The building becomes a landmark for the neighborhood, characterized by a chimney-tower which slides towards the sky and through an oculus gives a mystical atmosphere of light and shadow to the internal space.

Microarchitectures: recovery and experimentation in the rural landscape
Year: 2024
Location: Rivalta sul mincio, Mantova, Italy
Type: master thesis
The spirit of a place reveals itself as a dense mesh of material and immaterial interweavings, of which identity and territoriality represent complex and essential knots in the design of space. The discovery of the genius loci was the basis of the entire design reflection, fundamental to understand the characteristics of a local culture, preserve them and project them into the future. The project focused in particular on the landscape that surrounds the city of Mantua. Specifically, the design interventions followed a dual approach consisting of the requalification of some existing architecture and the installation of new light microarchitectures, created by combining low-tech artisanal techniques with other innovative high-tech ones. The project aims to be an attempt to respond to a historical period in which everything is fast and accessible, with silent spaces for contemplation and rediscovery of one’s roots.

Rituals in Milan
Year: 2023
Location: Milan, Italy
Type: workshop with Philippa Nyakato Tumubweinee
In this studio, we aim to capture and make visible the specificities of place by describing the rituals that define who we are, where we are. We start to gather information about our experience of a place. This act of gathering our experiences, in relation to ourselves and others, is the evidence that we exist, and we do so in a place that is expressed in different ways. When these expressions are made evident through familiar descriptions they can be utilised as device from which to design and create. The description of rituals when located within localised specificities, can have a profound impact on how we understand, see, and learn from a place. This has translated into an exhibition which, through ready-made materials, has transformed a university classroom into the Milan of our daily lives, close to one’s own and personal sensibilities.
Photos of the exhibition designed by the entire group of students: the cliché of Milan and our personal rituals.
* In violet my ritual: during my studies in Milan I lived in a 16-story skyscraper, very different from the house I grew up
but at the same time magical and whose heart seemed to be the elevator, a social “living room” where you always
met new neighbors and stories from next door (personal rituals have been designed individually).

Workshop: Mantovarchitettura 2024
Year: 2024
Location: Mantova, Italy
Type: workshop with Benedetta Tagliabue
The themes of the event was related to the master thesis projects developed by myself and some students of the Polytechnic of Milan in collaboration with the local startup PolRe®. The personal story of Nadia Zamporetti, founder of the start-up, have inspired reflections on the actual meaning of genius loci . The specificities of a place, including landscape, community and culture, become the starting point in the design of the space. PolRe® was born as an innovative textile material to preserve and transmit traditional workmanship and weaving, a minor art and ancient technique that finds expression in culture and architecture on a global level. In this sense, a specific local practice becomes innovative intersectoral and intercultural experimentation. The event is therefore proposed as a reflection on the need to build identifying and sustainable spaces through an integrated and transversal approach that combines zerokilometer natural materials with high tech technologies.
