Powerful: Women in the Martial Arts is a profile of Coleen Gragen, a 5th Degree Black Belt martial artist, teacher, and leader within the women's community. The spirit, skill and daring of women ranch hands and rodeo performers is recorded in "I'll 'Ride That Horse!" in which archival stills, old newsreels and contemporary rodeo footage are combined with interviews with extraordinary women who worked the Montana rodeo circuit between the 1 920's and the 1 950's . Georgina Corzine and Hope Wendl have finally fin ished their ode to those daring ladies of the waves: The Source is a surf adventure docu drama about hot surfer chicks, mermaids and the courageous women of the Bay Area who relentlessly pursue that perfect curl .

T Edward D. Wood, Jr. explores just who
this man was . He made only five movies. Some say they weren't very good. But Ed Wood is more well known today than other, more famous filmmakers who were his con temporaries . His films are now very popular, and his work has been accorded a retrospec tive at the Museum of Modem Art in New York. But who was Edward D. Wood, Jr.? Was he the World War II Marine and war r---------, hero who wore ladies' underwear at the Battle of Tarawa? Was he the dashing and hand some man who secretly was a H E A 0 LIN E 5 transvestite, attracting the most beautiful starlets in Hollywood to be his lovers? Or was he the Orson Welles of low budget filmmaking who discovered muscle man Steve Reeves and befriended Bela Lugosi, creating films for him when no one else would hire him? Perhaps no one else in the history of Hollywood has had their work so maligned and misunderstood. Finally, we hear those who worked with Wood to realize his VISIon, including Maila Nurmi ("Vampira"), Dolores Fuller, Paul Marco ("Kelton the Cop") and the Reverend Doctor Lynn Lemon. On the same program , Andy Warhol is a brief look at the family Andy left behind in Pittsburgh.

A Short Film About Us examines lesbians of color in Britain and how they blend the political , the racial, and the sexual into their lives . Closets Are For Clothes depicts a young Japanese lesbian's predica ment when one of her male friends starts hit ting on her. High Tech Rice is an explo ration of how one Filipino-American lives simultaneously in two cultures and must come to terms with both her reliance on and her opposition to the answering machine that becomes her connection to the two. One Shadowless Hour celebrates the diversity of Japanese lesbian lifestyles. This documen tary mixes footage of the 2nd Tokyo Lesbian & Gay Parade with interviews with five women who challenge the lesbian stereo types found in Japanese society. The Network d i r.
