FRAMLINGHAM COLLEGE PREP SCHOOL

The Junior Duke Award Programme

SUMMER TERM 2026

Welcome

The Junior Duke Award has been designed to help Framlingham College Prep School pupils develop important and essential life skills, drawing on the breadth of opportunities presented in the school's diverse Co-Curricular programme.

The award scheme is based on a six-module model, each element of which must be completed to achieve the relevant level award at the end of the academic year. All elements are covered as part of our normal offering at the Prep School.

There are three award levels that pupils can achieve:

Ruby Year 3 and 4

Amber Year 5 and 6

Emerald Year 7 and 8

Each new award level requires an increased level of commitment and gets progressively more challenging.

Pupils can choose activities (outlined in the following pages of this booklet) which will allow them to complete the skills, volunteering and active elements of the awards. Residentials and Expeditions are part of the co-curricular programme and exploration elements will be taught through specialist teaching sessions.

Each areas is assessed and signed off in a separate logbook (which will be provided during the term).

Choosing activities:

Each pupil will need to complete at least the correct number of activity options depending on their award level.

This

Choose any sport, dance or fitness activity – in short, anything that requires a sustained level of energy and physical activity as an after-school activity.

Choose an after-school activity that will allow you to prove you have broadened your understanding and increased your expertise in your chosen skill. This should not be a physical activity.

Choosing to give time to help people, the community or society, the environment or animals after

Active Activities

American Sports

Experience the thrill of American sports! From the high-speed action of the American Football (TAG) to the nonstop excitement of the Basketball and the rich tradition of Baseball, there's something for every fan. This American Sports Activity will deliver unforgettable moments.

Ballet

Following the Cecchetti ballet method, ballet classes at Framlingham Prep are taught by Miss Emily - a former dancer and current Associate Dance Artist at English National Ballet. Classes consist of a combination of syllabus and imaginative free ballet, instilling a love of dance, and an understanding of the core discipline and control which ballet requires. Providing an opportunity for progression and achievement, children may take class exams, should they wish to.

Cricket

This cricket session will be a fun, action packed affair where we'll focus on improving the fundamentals in our budding cricketers. Mr Northcote, who leads the session, says that no experience is necessary but a positive, hardworking attitude is essential! Provide these and we'll have a blast and develop in this wonderful sport, along the way.

Croquet

Step onto the lawn for a game of tactics and touch. Master your swing, plan your angles and outwit your opponents in this classic game of skill and strategy.

Cross-Country

A valuable opportunity to get ahead of the cross-country season with Mr Northcote in this early morning club. Short and sharp, we’ll split the time together into two focuses; technique and skill development. Covering running techniques, intervals, endurance runs and pace setting to name just a few.

Fishing

Cast off and give it a go. Learn the basics of angling, patience and technique as you try your luck by the water. Calm, focused and quietly competitive — who will land the catch of the day? Takes place at a local facility. More information to follow.

Football

We will dive into an action-packed football session designed to boost your skills and passion for the sport. Coaches will lead you through a series of exercises focusing on key football techniques like dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending before playing games to make sure this remains a lively and enjoyable activity.

Golf

The golf activity runs across two different locations; Aldeburgh and Fynn Valley Clubs. The venue is very much dependent on the time of year, light and weather but what is a constant is the valuable time you’ll get to master your stroke, through a short, sharp technical lesson. Hitting lots of balls with a dedicated coach to interject and support when need will allow you to develop at speed through this activity.

Horse Riding

Horse riding lessons at the wonderful Valley Farm.Thisactivityis chargeable.

Junior Golf

A chance to develop golf skills in a relaxed and supportive setting on the Prep School back field. Children should bring their own clubs as they practise technique, accuracy and control through fun challenges and games.

Post-match Cool Down

After their Games session on a Friday, Year 3 and 4 will come together to relax and cool down.

Pre-Season Boys' Rugby

Handling, passing, attacking, defending and tackling are some of the key focuses of the Rugby activity this Summer. Add in conditioning, footwork and speedwork and this activity adds great value to your Rugby experience in the Prep School. This one is not to be missed.

Pre-Season Girls' Hockey

Our experienced Senior Coaches, led by Mrs Letchford, will guide you through the fundamental skills to become successful at this wonderful game. You’ll practice shooting, passing and tackling skills through a series of engaging drills and mini-games that make learning fun before playing small sided games.

Running Games

Stuck in the mud, 40:40, hide and seek, capture the flag and so much more in this activity packed with fitness, fun and frivolity.

Shooting

An introduction to the sport under the watchful eye of the College SSI, Warrant Officer Roy Witham. This will take place on the College Range at the Senior School with pick up from the Senior School Reception.

Sports Scholars (Years 7 and 8)

This activity is designated to the small number of Sports Scholars in Years 7 and 8 at the Prep School. We run two sessions a week (Tuesday after school and Thursday lunchtimes). Topics vary across the year with lessons delivered both in and out the classroom. A flavour of these would be; goal setting, nutrition, stretching and yoga, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, strength and conditioning, tactical enhancement, video analysis and so much more. All Sports Scholars are expected to attend.

Swimming

Delivered by our swim staff, this action-packed activity is the perfect opportunity for you to grow both confidence and technique in the water. We’ll teach you the Swim England Swim Scheme which will help you partake at your local clubs, joining at the appropriate levels. This is open for all levels of swimmers and heavily focused on enjoyment and outcomes.

Tennis Squad

This invite only, squad session, is for enthusiastic tennis players aiming to improve their skills and compete in matches against other schools. Although most competitions occur in the summer term, this on-court time with our dedicated coaching team offers invaluable learning opportunities. AT FRAMLINGHAM COLLEGE WE CELEBRATE EVERY INDIVIDUAL. THERE IS NO TYPICAL FRAMLINGHAMIAN, NO SINGULAR PATH THAT WE TAKE.

We are academics, actors, musicians, expeditioners, sports people, innovators, scientists, ruminators, decision makers, story tellers, teammates, artists, fun lovers, nurturers and thought provokers.

Often, we are many things within one. BUT WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUAL, EACH WITH OUR OWN STORY.
