Foods that fight inflammation Dr. Habiba N. Shaw Doctors are learning that one of the best ways to quell inflammation lies not in the medicine cabinet, but in the refrigerator. Your immune system attacks anything in your body that it recognizes as foreign— such as an invading microbe, plant pollen, or chemical. The process is called inflammation. Intermittent bouts of inflammation directed at truly threatening invaders protect your health. However, sometimes inflammation persists, day in and day out, even when you are not threatened by a foreign invader. That's when inflammation can become your enemy. Many major diseases that plague us—including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, and Alzheimer's—have been linked to chronic inflammation.

I said oh no you don’t! We came up and looked around for our home here. Q: When did you join the Plantation Women's Club? A: I’ve paid dues twice, so a couple of years ago I don’t remember the exact date. Q: What was the most important event in your life last week? PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CRYPTOWALL Your computer was working a little slowly and you might have seen the hard disk light going on continuously. When you reboot, you see the following:
nothing. You try several files and possibly even try to reboot, but each time you just get the above page. Nothing that you pull up works. Even the files that were on the flash drive that’s plugged into your computer will not work. All of your files have been encrypted, or changed where they cannot be used or viewed. All of your documents, pictures, records, etc. on your hard drive and even on the flash drive are now unusable. You are the victim of one of the nastiest malware that’s infecting Windows computers — CryptoWall.
purchase $500 worth of Bitcoins, a network payment system, and send this money to a certain site. After that, you will receive a key, or code, that will allow you to decrypt your files to make them useable again. And, you will have a time frame in which to send this ransom for your documents. If you don’t make that deadline, the cost for the decryption file goes up $1,000. In your case, hopefully this is just a hypothetical situation. But for thousands, this is real. And, if they don’t pay this ransom, their files are truly gone. The only way to get the files back is from a backup, which, unfortunately, many people do not do.
According to researchers at the Dell SecureWorks counter threat Unit (CTU), CryptoWall is “the largest and most destructive ransomIf, in your desperation, you ware threat on the Internet.” (http:// click on one of the links on the www.secureworks.com/cyber-threatFigure 1: CryptoWall’s Warning Screen only readable document on intelligence/threats/cryptowallyour computer, you will be ransomware/ ) Your reaction is “What the …” and you sudtaken to a webpage that will tell you if you And, they expect this threat to continue to denly get a sinking feeling in your stomach. want your files operational again, you must grow, because in a 6 month period, Dell SeYou try to pull up some files and you get

I N D EF ENS E OF HA P PY HOLIDAYS I have been hearing people getting riled up over the use of Happy Holidays, and I really don’t understand the consternation over the phrase. There are some persons I wish Happy Holidays to at this time of year, especially in my work life, because it isn’t yet Thanksgiving but I am probably not going to see them again until our quarterly meeting in January. I don’t want to ignore the holiday season but I also don’t want to actually send a card next month. I just end the meeting with a casual “Happy Holidays, Y’all.” Another time I use Happy Holidays is when I am with friends who take advantage of the sea-

We have done everything from soups to desserts to full meals. I always enjoy attending the Fairfield Fire Department’s Chili and Pie bake off that is held at the Women’s Club Halloween Carnival for the past several years. It is fun and tasty to try all of the different chili, even the ones that light a fire in your mouth. When I heard about the Women’s Club bbq cookoff I was so excited. I immediately talked to my Dad and eating partner in crime and suggested, very nicely, that they smoke a whole hog. They graciously agreed. My Dad Dining out, cooking in, and everything delish in-between
made his smoker several years ago with 2 55 gal drums- 1 is the smoke/burn barrel and the other is where the good stuff goes to get smoked. This was the 4th whole hog we have smoked and it proved to be the most challenging. Generally the process is fairly easy. We inject the meat with apple cider, Cajun blend, and cider vinegar, stick it on the smoker, drink some beers, put a log in the burn barrel every now and again and 12-18 hours it is done. This time the weather did not allow this laid back plan of action to happen. With temperatures being down in the 30’s all evening into the late morning it was a bit harder to keep the smoker at the ideal 225⁰ for long periods of time. So being the smart fellas they are they got a blanket for the smoker (water heater insulator), built a small windbreak and took shifts all night to keep adding logs and making sure it stayed up to temp. And after 18 hours of babysitting that little piggy we had a 125lbs smoked pig that produced almost 50lbs of delicious pulled pork. Smoking a whole hog isn’t the easiest task but when there is a competition to be won you have to go pig or go home.
