Welcome to the Fox Valley Technical College Team! Together, FVTC and your school district provide exciting opportunities for kids to explore potential careers, earn early college credit and save money on their future degrees. This guide will help you understand the different types of articulated courses, the qualifications required to teach and the process for getting started. Once an agreement is in place, faculty liaisons and the K-12 Partnerships team will be with you every step of the way.

Opportunities for early college credit Motivated students can earn more than technical college credits. They can complete many technical college credentials before high school graduation, at little to no cost to the student or family.

Start College Now Qualified public-school juniors and seniors may take college-level classes at FVTC, if a comparable course is not offered within their district. Eligible students submit a “Start College Now” application and work with school counselors to select coursework. To obtain district school board approval, applications are due to the high school by March 1st for fall classes and October 1st for spring classes. All costs for this program are covered by the high school. If you have any questions, please email StartCollegeNow@fvtc.edu.

Advanced Standing A traditional high school course, taught by a high school teacher, that closely matches a technical college course. Students must earn a “B” or better to receive advanced standing and must be enrolled in a Wisconsin Technical College program to claim the credit. Advanced standing courses may earn a student the opportunity to skip an introductory course and advance to the next level at no cost to the school district or family.

Dual Credit FVTC courses, taught at the high school, by a certified high school teacher. High school teachers are certified and mentored by FVTC faculty to duplicate competencies, curriculum, and assessment. The credits and grades earned will apply to both high school and college graduation at no cost to the school district or family.

FVTC faculty and K-12 Partnerships will review qualifications and request additional information when appropriate. After the class Grading - Grades must be entered in the FVTC grading system within 48 hours of the course end date. If the grades are not submitted, students are ineligilble to receive the credit they earned.

W

Withdraw before 60% complete Student would recieve this grade if they withdrew before 60% of the class was complete. This grade is only initiated by a student withdrawing from a class. Instructors will not have access to input the grade; however they will be able to view it on the students records. Grade may be included in Financial Aid GPA with the exception of any drop resulting in 100% refund (i.e. roster change 100% or extenuating circumstances 100%)

WF

Withdraw after 60% complete Student would receive this grade if they withdrew after 60% of the class has been completed. This grade is only initiated by a student withdrawing from a class. Instructors will not have access to input the grade; however they will be able to view it on the student’s records. Grade will be included in Academic and Financial Aid GPA.

Instructor initiated grades: EX

Extension An EX is issued when an instructor awards up to 90 days for a student to complete course requirements. Grade will be included in Financial Aid GPA.

WI

Withdraw by instructor Student would receive this grade when an instructor assign a withdrawal. This may be used at any time during the semester, however it is required that the instructor records the last date of attendance in the end date on the Grade Roster as well as instrutor Self Service panels. Grades will be included in Financial Aid GPA.

NS

No show Instructor would assign this grade if a student never attended the class. Grade will be included in Financial Aid GPA.

F

Failure Student would receive this grade if the instructor determined that they failed to meet the class requirements.

Instructors are required to enter the last date of attendance in the end date on the Grade Roster and Instructore Self-Services panels. Grade will be included in Academic and Financial Aid GPA. **Instructors are allowed to make grade changes at any time.**

Registrar initiated grades: WE

Withdraw Extenuating Circumstances Student would receive this grade if the student filed a refund appeal and it was approved by the Registrar due to the extenuating circumstances. Enrollment services staff would assign this grade. Grade will be included in Financial Aid GPA.

WR

Withdraw 100% Student would receive this grade if the student was dropped using 100% or ROST. Grad will not be included in Academic and Financial Aid GPA.

LF

Lapsed Failure Student would receive this grade if an EX is not graded within 90 days of the end of the term. An EX is issued when an instructor awards up to 90 days for a student to complete course requirements. Grade will be included in Academic and Financ ial Aid GPA.

FD

Failed due to Disciplinary reasons Student would receive this grade for disciplinary reasons (i.e. cheating, hehavioral). This grade must be approved by a Dean or Associate Dean. The Registrar will enter the grade along with supporting documentation. Grade will be included in Academic and Financial Aid GPA. 4

FVTC Dual Credit Guidelines for High School Partners •

As your annual course schedule evolves, please keep the K-12 Partnerships team informed of any changes to your Dual Credit courses (semester offered, class is cancelled, long-term sub needed, etc.) so we can help determine next steps.

•

Fox Valley Technical College Dual Credit courses are generally intended for juniors and seniors who are academically prepared for the rigor of college level classes and who will also better retain course content as they transition into their programs of study beyond high school.

•

Students MUST enroll in the FVTC course within the first week of class, to ensure that they have access to all FVTC content. FVTC provides a short registration how-to video (found on the Blackboard K12 Resource page) to help you and your students. Should you run into any challenges on registration day, call 920-735-2563.

•

Course resources, including textbook, software and other materials as specified by your FVTC program faculty liaison and must be used in conjunction with course content, assessments, and competencies to deliver each Dual Credit course.

•

Students must be registered and withdrawn from courses according to the specific timelines on the Dual Credit Academic Calendar.

•

Grades must be entered into the FVTC grading system for each student within 48 hours of the course ending. If courses are not graded by the high school teacher, students will not be eligible to utilize the credit at FVTC.

•

All Dual Credit grades are posted on a student’s FVTC transcript and are a part of a student’s cumulative GPA. Please help to set students up for success by reinforcing this on the first day. A higher level of commitment to study time and course participation, etc. will be important. If you feel that a student will not be successful in their Dual Credit course and wishes to withdraw, please follow the Dual Credit Academic Calendar/Guidelines for withdrawal procedures.

•

Dual Credit students will receive a course survey at the end of a class, to gather feedback on experiences related to their career pathway preparation and Academic and Career Planning outcomes.

•

Each year, in March, you will submit a course renewal to the Office of K12 Partnerships, for your courses for the coming academic year, as well as attend the appropriate program summit(s).

•

Please use the FVTC course title and description to identify Dual Credit classes in your course catalog, so it is clear to students, parents and other educational institutions, should the credit be transferred. Be sure to coordinate with your Counseling team to ensure that a current list of DC classes are noted in your course catalog each year.

•

Contact the Office of K12 Partnerships as soon as you are aware of this situation to ensure that the substitute placement follows FVTC credentialing requirements for the course you are teaching. In addition, your faculty liaison will play a key role in working with the substitute to assure that course structure is maintained and that grading and assessment protocols are followed. Ultimate approval of any long-term substitute falls to the appropriate FVTC program Dean.

Teacher qualifications and terms of engagement are determined course by course,

by FVTC faculty, specific to meeting instructional area requirements. Teacher certification is defined by the Wisconsin Technical College System and is based on the secondary teacher’s current license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
