Our local events, like the annual Pampa Rodeo and various seasonal festivals, bring people together and foster a sense of belonging. These gatherings are a wonderful opportunity to meet your neighbors and experience the local culture.

As you settle into your new home, I encourage you to explore our city’s cultural sites and participate in our community events. Education to Suit Every Need

When it comes to what people first consider before moving to a new city or town, education is always right there at the top of the list. From K-12 to college, a quality education is crucial because, after all, this is the future we’re talking about.

What makes Pampa appealing when it comes to education are the options and resources available. From public education to alternative and private, there’s sure to be a school to fit every unique individual.

Pampa Independent School District

There’s no denying that once a student is enrolled through Pampa ISD, they will be a Harvester for life because the pride of the green and gold runs deep. The wonderful teachers in our elementary schools will set the course for each child to be successful in the following years, leaving a lasting impression that students will undoubtedly look fondly back on. The junior high will help students adjust to the changes of transitioning to a bigger school (and bigger curriculum) and guide them gently to their next big milestone, all while they encourage them to find their passions and interests that will set them on a direct path to a successful future. Once a student enters high school, they will be offered a wide variety of classes that will provide extensive instruction through hands-on learning that directly correlates to the career of their choosing. From nursing and agriculture to robotics and welding, Pampa High School ensures that their students will walk out of those doors ready and confident in their next big adventure.

Big or Small, One Store Has It All.

PAMPA Education

Pampa Learning Center

It’s a simple fact that high school just isn’t for everyone or there are circumstances outside of school that cannot be avoided and may interfere with academic progress. The Pampa Learning Center is an alternative to those last four years of school that can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult to navigate through. The teachers and director of PLC understands and acknowledges that every individual’s situation is unique and their kind and gentle approach to providing a high-quality education based around the student’s needs has earned them the title as one of the best alternative schools in the state of Texas. For more information, call Carrie Williams at 806-669-4750.

Community Christian School

Spiritual development is just as important as academic development and Pampa’s Community Christian School excels at providing both. For those students just starting out in kindergarten through fifth grade, they can expect to be given a nurturing and structurally sound foundation to learn those crucial basics that will prepare them for the following school years, all in a loving, Christian environment. With small student/teacher ratios, the students at CCS are guaranteed to have a quality education that is perfectly paced for their individual needs. For more information, call Laura Green at 806-665-3393.

The Well STEAM and Literacy Center

For those parents who have decided to homeschool their kids, or for students who are in need of some extra help in a particular class, or if a child loves anything science-related and wants to expand that interest into some hands-on learning, The Well STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) and Literacy Center is the place for you. The Well offers a wide variety of services, from tutoring in reading and math to summer programs designed to igniting a child’s curiosity in the STEAM subjects. The Well also offers flexible home school support classes to help parents give the best education possible to their kids. For more information, call Paul Rayburn at 806486-1971.

Clarendon College Pampa Center

Since 1898, Clarendon College has provided students a pathway to a successful and fulfilling career, whether it be obtaining a license in a particular field or providing the next stepping stone to higher education. Clarendon College also collaborates and works hand-in-hand with Pampa High School to help students acquire college credits, some even earning an Associate’s Degree before graduation! The goal of CC is to provide a highquality and affordable education for all. For more information call Dr. Mike Davis at 806-665-8801.

Supporting Businesses

When you think about a Grand Opening celebration, the image of a ribbon and a pair of giant scissors probably comes to mind.

This century-old tradition serves as a symbolic gesture of a new beginning and the Gold Coats of the Pampa Chamber of Commerce are the first ones to help celebrate. Armed with a pair of golden scissors and green ribbon to pay tribute to Pampa’s hometown colors, the owner of the new business cuts the ribbon in front of their establishment, invoking praise and congratulations from those in attendance.

While the ceremony is short and sweet, it represents not only a new beginning, but it ensures the new entrepreneur that they have the support of the town at their back. If you are interested in becoming a Gold Coat or have a business that you’d like to celebrate with the classic Grand Opening ceremony, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 806-669-3241 or visit their location at 200 N. Ballard Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 5 PM and Friday from 8:30 AM to noon.

Something for Every Palate

Pampa is one of those smaller towns where local restaurants outnumber the larger restaurant chains, each one offering something different for every palate.

While, yes, Pampa does have the more common fast-food and dining restaurants scattered along Hobart Street, the locallyowned restaurants can’t be missed and can be found in every corner of Pampa.

Whether you’re an early riser and need a hearty breakfast to get goin’, prefer a simple lunch that’ll get you through until dinner, or prefer to bust your belt after a long day at work, there’s always somewhere to get your grub on.

A few of the local restaurants in Pampa have been around for decades and once you step through their doors, it’ll be crystal clear as to why they’re considered hometown staples.

For something quick and on the go, stop by one of the many food trucks that are unique in every way.

One thing is for certain, no matter which of the many options you choose for some good, hometown eatin’, you will always be greeted with a smile and will leave full and happy.

Welcome to PAMPA

The Heartbeat of Pampa

It has been said that the heart and soul of any town is its downtown and without it, there’s no doubt that the town wouldn’t survive.

For Pampa, that heartbeat has remained strong and everything from the culture to the community has thrived and flourished even over 100 years later.

Most of Pampa’s history can be told just by traveling along the red bricked streets, whether you’re driving along Million Dollar Row where the courthouse, city hall and fire station sit in alignment and stand as operational monuments that tell of Pampa’s booming growth in the 1930s, or you’re walking along Cuyler Street and stopping in the many stores and boutiques the blocks have to offer.

There’s certainly something for everyone in these quaint, locally-owned and community-supported businesses and you’re guaranteed to be greeted with a friendly smile with every visit.

It’s highly recommended to stroll through the historic blocks because there’s so much to be seen and admired, such as the Art Deco architecture and style that nearly all of the structures downtown possess, including the iconic Combs-Worley building across from City Hall; a gentle giant steeped in a rich history that is fully operational and contains numerous businesses and services within its walls.

Even walking through the doors of some of the buildings on Cuyler will take you back in time as many of the floors

and ceilings are still in their original, yet preserved state.

It’s no wonder that many of Pampa’s most-anticipated events occur right there on the bricks, such as the ever-popular Burnin’ the Bricks car show and burnout every June and the festive late-night Christmas shopping event where bright and colorful lights illuminate decorated store fronts.

Some of Pampa’s best eatin’ can also be done downtown, whether it’s at the historic Coney Island Cafe, the vintage and retro Finley’s Fountain or the atmospheric Coffee Shop for a light lunch.

The spirit of Pampa undoubtedly resides in its downtown and once you’ve traveled along those red bricks, Pampa will always feel like home.

Points of Interest

Steeped in History

There’s always something to see and learn in this town we are proud to call home. With its rich history, many of Pampa’s buildings and structures will tell a story.

For the absolute best experience in gaining historical knowledge about not only Pampa, but the entire Texas Panhandle, visit the White Deer Land Museum at 116 S. Cuyler. Spend the day (yes, there’s THAT much to see!) checking out all the exhibits and displays that the beloved time capsule has to offer. Take some time to talk to the museum’s director, Anita Gullett who carries some fascinating information regarding anything Texas Panhandle related.

Walk in the footsteps of famous folk singer, Woody Guthrie as you make your way to 320 S. Cuyler, right down the street from the White Deer Land Museum. Nestled in the original building that the singer and songwriter worked, Harris Drugs, the Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center houses tons of memorabilia and the Center’s Executive Director, Michael Sinks, can tell you some really interesting stories about just how much of a role Pampa played in Woody’s success. Check out the jam sessions held every Friday night from 6PM to 8:30 PM.

Pampa’s main street, Hobart, holds one of the best military museums in the Texas Panhandle, the Freedom Museum USA. With the tanks, war planes and helicopters on its front lawn, the museum can’t be missed and is well worth visiting. Its walls are filled with historic, authentic items from many wars and battles and the stories that are told through its exhibits are sure to move you.

The Lovett Memorial Library gives an air of nostalgia immediately upon walking through its doors. No one can deny that there’s nothing quite like the smell and atmosphere of a library and it’s a universal feeling that has carried over through the generations. The Lovett Memorial Library carries books from old to brand new releases, and even works from local authors. They always have programs throughout the year that actively encourages young ones to pick up a book and let their imagination run wild.

Jump into Spring with one of Pampa’s many community events that will bring you outside in the fresh air. The City Wide Easter Egg Hunt is a great way to get your littles involved in an outdoor activity and to burn off that energy stored up during those winter months. While the City Wide Easter Egg Hunt is a one-day event, there are many churches around Pampa that also have their own, so be sure to keep an eye out for dates and locations!

The Pride of Pampa Band Carnival brings in the thrills with a variety of carnival rides, from the classic Pirate Ship and Gravitron to the relaxing Swing ride and fearinducing High Drop. Make sure to stop by the Pride of Pampa Band food trailer for one of their infamous turkey legs or mouth-watering burgers.

The High Plains Cruisers/Burnin’ the Bricks Car Show and Burnout the second weekend in June brings out the best of the best in muscle, classic and antique cars and trucks. Stick around as these car gurus show off their rides and streak the red bricks of Downtown Pampa during the burnout.

In March, head to Shamrock just about an hour away from Pampa to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with their 2-day fun-filled event that includes a parade, carnival, rodeo, numerous contests and a craft show.

From the classic pie and hotdog eating contests and infamous 8-foot pizza bake to the Miss Liberty Beauty Pageant and spectacular fireworks show once the sun goes down, 4th of July in Pampa is really something to see.

The Top O’ Texas Rodeo is a two-day event that brings in people from around the country, either to spectate or to participate. Whether it’s the Mutton’ Bustin Extravaganza or the Bronc Riding with many other categories in between, you’ll undoubtedly have a great time. Make sure to slow the adrenalinepumping night down by cuttin’ a rug at the dance with live music after the rodeo performances.

PampaFest is a city-wide outdoor music concert that brings in the best vendors, food trucks and musicians this part of the country has to offer. The event is located right there on the historic red bricks of Cuyler Street in Downtown Pampa. So pull up a lawn chair and let the music take you away.

So Long Summer is Pampa’s last summer event and takes place on Labor Day in Central Park. The event is a celebration as we wave goodbye (for now) to the hot summer months and welcome in Autumn, and what better way to do that than a free community shin-dig that features a pancake breakfast, 5K run, live music, games, prizes and local vendors and food trucks?

Welcome to PAMPA

With school starting back up, Fall in Pampa is a time to relax and enjoy the cooler weather. The Country Fair put on every year by the Chamber of Commerce in October is quite the event with a different theme each year. The fair gives adults an opportunity to have some Halloween-season fun and dress up with the year’s theme and enjoy a night of music, drinks, delicious dining and socialization. During Halloween, many of Pampa’s businesses, organizations and churches will feature Trunk or Treat and there’s no doubt that your child’s candy bucket will be overflowing by the end of the night. Make sure to check out the Haunted Library that the Lovett Memorial Library hosts every year for some familyfun thrills and chills. To find out what places have a Halloween event going on, make sure to pick up a newspaper at The Pampa News where all events will be listed for your convenience! Fall in Pampa is also football season, so check out a game or two and show some Harvester Spirit!

Winter Wonderland Welcome to PAMPA -36-

There is always something festive happening in Pampa during those cold winter months that’ll be sure to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Lighting Up the Bricks in Downtown Pampa is always such a special event as it kicks off the holiday season. Brightly lit store fronts illuminate the streets, welcoming folks through the doors for some latenight local shopping and of course, hot cocoa. Santa can also be spotted downtown so kiddos can get their requests in early!

What better way to beat the chill than soup with Mrs. Claus? Every year she makes an appearance at the Knights of Columbus downtown where she spreads holiday cheer over a bowl of warm soup and a story. Every year, Pampa’s Celebration of Lights brings folks from all over the Panhandle to Recreation Park with its interactive light displays. The route is easily driveable so take your time to get a look at the many displays out there, but don’t forget to step out and pet the reindeer. Yes, reindeer!

The annual Christmas Parade is the biggest (and brightest!) parade in Pampa and it’s the only one that occurs at night, and for good reason! Beginning at the MK Brown Auditorium, the many colorful and brightly lit floats make their way down Somerville and through Downtown, lighting up the town in the early dark night.

Going to see The Nutcracker has been a generational tradition every year, and Pampa always puts on a wonderful show. It’s easy to become mesmerized by the performance of those talented dancers and deserves going to see again for the second showing. Pampa has many other pop-up events around during Christmas, such as the PAWS Craft Show and Story Time with the Grinch and Mrs. Claus, so be sure to keep an eye out on what’s coming up!

To mark the beginning of the New Year, the Pampa VFW Post 1657 hosts a New Year’s Eve Bash that will have you ringing in the year on the right foot (as soon as you’re done on the dance floor!) With a silent auction, live music, great food and endless drinks, the New Year’s Bash is certainly an event that can’t be missed!

-38- Welcome to PAMPA Entertainment

While Pampa may have many seasonal events that occur throughout the year, our town also offers that classic, family-friendly entertainment that is always accessible no matter the time of year.

The Zone Bowling Center, located at 1401 S. Hobart, is the go-to place for wholesome fun for the entire family. Whether you’re an amateur bowler or want to join a seasoned league, the Zone has what you’re looking for. With an impressive arcade and built-in restaurant, the decision on where to have your next party is an easy one. The Zone has also recently added in a bar for the adults who need to unwind, have a brewski and watch the latest football game.

There’s nothing quite like going to a movie theatre to catch the latest flick, and Cinema 4, located at 1201 N. Hobart, Suite 10, always has the newest releases. Whether you’re an avid horror lover who’s been eagerly awaiting the latest slasher film (me, waiting for Terrifier 3), or the newest Marvel mashup, Cinema

4 has a seat and a big tub of buttery popcorn waiting for you. Be sure to check their website every Friday for new releases and showtimes.

While not completely set in stone just yet, a skating rink is currently in the works at the Pampa Mall, as well as glow golf and a few other ideas. Keep a look out for more information!

Welcome to PAMPA -40- Community Events

One of the wonderful things about Pampa is just how tightknit this town is and when an event pops up, it’s always something that is engaging and community-driven. While some events are going on their 2nd, 3rd or even 10th year, sometimes a brand new one is introduced and the excitement, support and involvement from the folks of Pampa makes that first event successful and memorable. In 2024, the Meredith Court, (a senior assisted living center), held its first Summer Block Party and it was certainly quite the party! Citizens flocked the block to take part in the fun games, prizes, food trucks and local vendors, as well as take a gander at the gorgeous classic and vintage cars that lined the street.

Lemonade Day, put on by the Chamber of Commerce, is a friendly, city-wide lemonade stand competition that was held for the first time in 2024. The event gave kiddos the opportunity to get creative, learn business and entrepreneurial skills, and make some money, all while having fun! Mom Prom is only a couple of years old and it’s such a sweet and fun way to celebrate the women in our town. For those who may not have gotten to go to their own prom or just need a girls’ night out, the Mom Prom is the event of a lifetime!

The Frontier Regiment of the High Plains always puts on something to see for those who love interactive history and reinactments of famous battles. Every year, the group, partnered with the White Deer Land Museum, covers the Red River War, showcasing the 17 battles that happened more than 100 years ago. From real cannons used on the battlefield to the attire worn by the actors, the annual event will certainly knock you back in time!

Back to school season is a stressful time for anyone with kiddos, whether it be the lengthy school supply lists burning a hole in your wallet or the intimidation of your child starting a brand new school. Pampa’s Annual Back to School Bash has all that covered. The event has grown in recent years, expanding across the front lawn of the high school where numerous tents of local businesses and organizations are there to offer support and school supplies. Free immunizations are also available, relieving that stressor as well. Bounce houses, face painting, a dunking booth, tons of vendors and food trucks also make the event a great way to end summer break and get back to the books! These are just a few of the community events, new and annual, that Pampa has and you never know when a brand new one will pop up! Stay updated through The Pampa News or The Chamber of Commerce!

The Pampa Country Club offers one of the best 18-hole golf courses in the Texas Panhandle along with a full service bar and restaurant for a wonderful dining experience. Offering- full clubhouse facilities for banquets, weddings and receptions. Swimming is available during the summer months.

Places of Worship Welcome to PAMPA

One of the first things you may notice if you’re cruising around Pampa is the number of churches the town offers. Many of our churches have some of the oldest congregations in the Panhandle and many of the buildings are gorgeous.

But we all know it’s what’s within those walls that counts, and all of the churches in Pampa have folks that welcome any newcomers with open arms, so finding your church family won’t be a difficult task. From Baptist and Methodist to Catholic and non-denominational, there’s a church to suit every spiritual need.

Many of the churches also have a Vacation Bible School for the kiddos during the summer, each one with a fun theme that keeps them engaged as they learn about the word of God.

The annual Kicking Bear camp is also a fun, Christianbased summer outdoor event that features archery, range shooting, tons of interactive games, as well as baptisms right there in God’s country.

Take a look at the Directory on page 46 for the list of churches in Pampa and surrounding communities to find your perfect church home and family!

We offer an invitation to any and all to come worship with us at MEHCOC. You will find a loving church that desires to follow the calling of Jesus Christ and wants to live like Christ. We sing and make music in our hearts with acapella Worship as we are instructed in Ephesians 5:19. We partake in the Lord’s Supper every Sunday as told in Acts 20:7. We believe Jesus Christ himself created the church of Christ, not man, as we see the church created in Matthew 16:18 and then talked about in Romans 16:16. We would love for you to join us in Worship as we follow the calling of Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples! Our services are livestreamed on our YouTube page. You can follow us on Facebook at Facebook.com/MEHCOC. Zac Green is the Minister. Our Elders are Kurt Curfman, Alan Eubank, Frankie Lemons, and Gary Turley.
