This state park contains the Mountain Life Museum, McHargue’s Mill, camping, swimming, recreation and a memorial to the massacre of the McNitt Party. Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site is named after the first frontiersman in Kentucky. Near the river, which he named the Cumberland, Dr. Walker built the first cabin in Kentucky, a replica of which stands on the site today. The cabin and surrounding grounds can be toured year-round. CUMBERLAND FALLS STATE RESORT PARK

Known as the “Niagara of the South,” the waterfall forms a 125-foot-wide curtain that plunges seven stories into a boulder-strewn gorge, and is dramatic day or night. The mist of Cumberland Falls creates the magic of the Moonbow, a unique phenomena which is only visible on a clear night during a full moon.

The park features a variety of other recreational activities that range from a relaxing dip to the excitement of rafting and horseback riding.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is the perfect destination to introduce the family to the thrill of horseback riding. The park offers guided trail rides that are easy enough for the first timer and still adventurous for the more experienced. The goal of the museum, which was formed in 1996, is to preserve Whitley County’s history and to help researchers with their quest for ancestors. The Corbin Arena

The Corbin Arena is a city-owned 100,000 square foot, multi-purpose facility. It hosts a variety of exciting events throughout the course of the year, including concerts, sporting events, expos, graduation ceremonies and more.

The Arena has welcomed in legendary musical acts such Styx, Judas Priest, ZZ Top and Snoop Dogg.

Each March, the facility hosts the 13th Region boys and girls basketball tournaments, and in January of 2024 it was the host site for the statewide All “A” Classic championship basketball tournaments.

Other visitors to the Corbin Arena include World Wrestling Entertainment and the Harlem Globetrotters. Nationally recognized comedians and Christian rock artists have performed there as well.

The venue is conveniently located off of I-75 Exit 25, 87 miles south of Lexington and 83 miles north of Knoxville, TN.

Big South Fork Scenic Railway Train Ride

Take a train ride through the scenic mountains of Southern Kentucky and stop at the historic Blue Heron Mining Camp. The Big South Fork Scenic Railway takes a 14 mile trip down to Blue Heron, the largest interpretive collection of historic coal mining in America. It’s just a short trip over to Stearns in beautiful McCreary County.
