Fowlerville celebrates ‘Christmas in the Ville’ on Saturday, Dec. 1 A long line stretched through the Fowlerville Fire Hall when Santa Claus arrived during the Christmas in the Ville celebration in Fowlerville on Saturday, Dec. 1. Visiting with him was three-year-old Andrw Reeves of Fowlerville.

He is the son of Ann Reeves.

Devinne Butkiewicz, age 4, was among the dozens of area youngsters to got the chance to see Santa Claus at the Fowlerville Fire Hall.

She is the daughter of Thorin and Dina Butkiewicz of Fowlerville.

Fowlerville celebrated the annual ‘Christmas in the Ville’ on Saturday, Dec. 1. Beautiful weather (for December) brought out a record number of people to the various afternoon events and to the evening parade through the Downtown.

The arrival of Santa Claus was one of the major highlights of the event. He met with area youngsters at the fire hall. He was also one of over 60 entries in the parade.

A balloon sculpture of Santa and his sleigh and reindeer was featured at Flooring Finesse by Design in Downtown Fowlerville. It was one of many activities going on during the celebration. The Fowlerville Fire Truck was one of over 60 entries in the Christmas Parade through Downtown Fowlerville.

Grand Marshal of the Parade was Barbara Dine of the Family Impact Center. She and two of her grandchildren turn the lights on for the Village Christmas Tree.

Dick Scott Motor Mall $5,000 winner Dick Scott Motor Mall awarded $5,000 to Kendra Barrett of Williamston on Dec. 1. Barrett, who purchased this brand new 2013 Chrysler 200, was the winner in the recent November “Giveaway’. The first 100 persons who purchased new or used vehicle from the Fowlerville dealership during the month were automatically entered in the drawing. There were 85 entries.

Fowlerville school board offers superintendent post to Wayne Roedel Fowlerville’s board of education last week approved a recommendation from its personnel committee to offer the superintendent post to Wayne Roedel. The committee will now enter into a contract negotiation with the current assistant superintendent and, barring problems, is expected to hire him at the Dec. 18 board meeting.

Roedel will replace Rick Heinrich who last month officially announced his plans to retire from education at the end of the school year on June 30, 2013. Roedel will spend the next six months working with Heinrich to “ensure a smooth transition.”

The board typically gives the superintendent a three-year contract, while other administrators are tendered two-year agreements.

Roedel had been hired as the assistant superintendent last spring, replacing Don Buggia who retired. He came to Fowlerville in the 2004-05 school year as the assistant high school principal and the following year was promoted to the principal’s post.

He attended Essexville-Garver High School, near Bay City, graduating in 1983. He then attended Adrian College, earning a Bachelor’s degree in May of 1988 and also obtaining a teaching certificate. He began his career as a science teacher and also coached football and track at Kearsley High School in Flint with the goal (he said) of becoming a head football coach.

He subsequently went on to take teaching and coaching positions at Belding, Battle Creek Lakeview, a return to Belding as its new head football coach, and then a return to Kearsley as its new football coach.

He also obtained a Masters Degree in Administration from Saginaw Valley State University with the goal of becoming a school administrator. Fowlerville was his first administrative position.

He and his wife Lisa have three daughters: Olivia, Emma, and Grace.

Our wrestling season started off with a WOW effect. We beat a good Battle Creek Pennfield team 63-10 and a better Marshall Team 84 -0. These were matches that had every Fowlerville fan on their feet.

New guys to the Varsity line-up, making the first time impressions, were Kyle Roberts, John Abela, and Garreht Wrenn. Standout wrestlers for the night were Kyle Briggs and Trevor Webb.

The 8th grade boys traveled to Holt Monday, December 3 and they were unable to come away with victories. The B team offensively was led by Bryant Martin with 14 points, while Josh Shroyer chipped in 4 and Josh Nabozny added 2 points while Jarod Miller chipped in 1 for the Gladiators.

The A team kept the game close in the first quarter, but wasn’t able to come away with a win. Leading the Gladiators scoring attack was Eric Fritz with 7 points, Cameron Brigham with 6 and Andrew Spalding chipped in 4 points. Also contributing on the offensive end for the Glads was Nick Semke and Nate Leonard with 3 points each and Chad Hacker and Bryce Bertl added 2 points apiece for the Gladiators.

Team Princeton--Who’s Your Tiger?

Shawn Sherrill Shawn Sherrill is the “Tiger of the Week” for Team Princeton. He lives with his parents, two sisters, and five dogs. According to Shawn they are a special family and he appreciates that they all get along and love each other. In his spare time, he plays sports with his friends and family, loves to spend time with his pets, and also target shoots with his pellet guns and bows.

Shawn gets up early every morning to attend to his dogs and their needs. He is creative, selfless, kind, considerate, and dependable. Finally, he consistently impresses those around him with the internal motivation that drives him to achieve excellence in all that he does. Shawn is the perfect combination of mature young man and friendly smile with a can-do attitude. He is adored by teachers and classmates alike!

When he grows up, Shawn would like to be an artist specializing in mini clay creatures. His favorite part of school is band and playing his trumpet and he’s most proud of the grades he has earned so far this year. His family is incredibly proud of the young man he is becoming and how he always goes above and beyond at home and at school. He is a true joy to have as a son and a brother!

Fowlerville girl’s varsity basketball loses game to South Lyon East The Fowlerville girl’s varsity basketball team lost a tough contest on the road to South Lyon East on Tuesday, December 3 with a score of 47-36.

After a strong start, thanks to some solid shooting by Randi Buell, the Lady Gladiators took the lead after the first quarter. The Cougars took advantage of Fowlerville's fouls and turnovers, however, to gain the lead and secure the win.

Randi Buell led the scoring for the Glads with 11 points, while Hannah Hammond played a solid game with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Kaleigh Callahan finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Samantha Black added 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Early December Fun There’s more to December than the sudden awareness that Christmas is close.

Although I must admit that cutting a tree and hanging greens is a nice way to get in touch with the realities of the season, there’s a lot more. This in-between month is when mud and ice compete for your footing and rain and snow do the same for your spirits.

But we watch the weather people on television in disbelief, my wife and I. It’s “gloom” and “doom” if the temperature slips below 32 degrees. It’s terrible if a snowflake cuts across a billowy, gray sky or if a thing called “wind-chill” becomes a factor. It’s normal is what it is.

We find “fun” things to do in early December, some of which, admittedly, should have been done in November.

Take planting crocus and tulip bulbs for instance. With occasional snowflakes getting in our eyes, we hustled out the labeled paper bags from the basement and the rake and trowel from the garage. Two old pairs of gloves and a kneeling pad completed the arsenal of materials needed.

Oh yes, and some imaginative plans for what we wanted spring’s warmth to produce for us.

Not a bad job really, and a chance to mix in some of the downed and already decaying leaves in the soil. It was a satisfying time that put roses on our cheeks and smiles on our faces. Forget the numbness in the fingers and toes.

And beyond the yard work chores there are other things to hear and see and do. How about the Christmas decorating I’ve so far ignored?

And as December’s chill increases we see a different type of bird. A bird “fluffed” against that cold and finding help at the feeder we provide and like to watch. And since we share our space with not just birds but squirrels as well, we also maintain a station for them.

I know where hickory nuts fall in profusion along the edge of a field of corn. With the rattle of stalks for background music, you can fill a peck sack in an hour. And never mind if they aren’t all good, the grateful squirrels will sort them as you watch back home.

I know where black walnuts lie among heavy grass and oak leaves, along a woods edge I often hunt. A path can take you silently there, and as you find the nuts you may hear the startled “woof” of a deer. Not quite sure about the

season, the shy deer waits for a shot to break the stillness or if the intrusion is only some natural sound. “Woof!”

With enough of these treats for squirrels and us alike, we, like the deer, concentrate on sounds along the path. A pessimist would hear a cold wind rattle brittle limbs and feel it reaching down his collar. An optimist would hear the happy question of a chickadee, the lovely call of a cardinal and know the woods is only resting.

Carrying our harvest of nuts and happy feelings, we go on. An impulsive ruffed grouse explodes away to a hiding place or to a safer feeding ground, you can never be quite sure. A wedge of waterfowl, not native now, veers into a wide spot on the river where the ice has not yet formed.

This group and others like it, make up the last of the southbound flight birds.

We like December. We like the changes that it brings— and wish the T.V. weather people understood!

Fowlerville Fire Report The department responded to 12 emergencies this week.

Thursday, November 29th, at 10:08 p.m. a medical emergency on N. Grand Ave. in the Village was reported.

The department responded to five medical emergencies Friday, November 30th. At 9:53 a.m. personnel assisted EMS on Cedar River Drive in the Village. The second call was on Robb Road in Conway Township at 12:26 p.m.

Firefighters were dispatched to Van Riper Road in the Village at 1:30 p.m. and then to Sharpe Road in Handy Township at 4:25 p.m. The last dispatch was to Brookdale Street in the Village at 7:47 p.m.

The department was dispatched to a medical emergency on N. Grand Ave. in the Village at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, December 1st.

At 12:16 p.m. Monday, December 3rd, a medical emergency on Stow Road in Conway Township was reported. At 8:26 p.m. the department was dispatched to a remove a tree blocking the roadway on Stow Road in Conway Township. Then, at 10:21 p.m. firefighters responded to assist EMS ib Coon Lake Road in Iosco Township.

Personnel assisted at two medical emergencies Tuesday, December 4th. The first, at 9:31 a.m. was on Sharpe Road in Handy Township with the second being on N. Grand Ave. in the Village at 12:47 p.m.

We are getting closer to getting our e-books for our library patrons. This is actually quite a process to get this service going. It is very time consuming – you have to go online and see what is available, how much the book costs to download, make sure it is in the right format, go through numerous lists, authors, etc. It was a real ‘eye-opener’ to see the costs of some of the new fiction books. For instance the latest book by James Patterson is 89.95!

That’s right – you are reading that figure as it is – a whopping 89.95. That is one title! What makes it so expensive? I am researching that more and will get back with you on that one! In the meantime – there are many other fiction titles that do not cost that much. We will try and have a varied selection for our library patrons to choose from.

So if you are planning on getting a new Kindle HD or Nook or tablet – you will want to check out our e-book collection coming soon.

Beth, our programming coordinator will be offering a class on ‘electronic’ devices – tips and helpful hints to navigate those wonderful devices! Karin will be picking out books for all ages – so no matter your age – we will have something for you and your entire family.

Now for those of you who like to hold a ‘real’ book – we have PLENTY of titles for you to check out. Our shelves are busting at the seams with new and enjoyable reading.

Check out our ‘holiday’ books displayed throughout the library – take out a Christmas DVD or a children’s Christmas DVD – we certainly have plenty to choose from.

Webberville Library hosting holiday open house on December 12 The FRIENDS OF THE WEBBERVILLE LIBRARY is sponsoring their annual Holiday Open House at the Webberville Library on Wednesday, December 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be free homemade cookies and punch served. Children will be able to make a free craft item and take the completed project home. Greg Howe will perform holiday music on his guitar.

Muzaliwa’s laugh, and him calling me Mr. Blue. I don’t know how it got started but still to this day I’ll hear, “Hey Mr. Blue in the hallway.” If I had one word to describe Kigabi it would outspoken because he always says what is on his mind.”

In the fall Muzaliwa hopes to attend Lansing Community College for two years and then hopes to transfer to Western Michigan University for the nursing program. Muzaliwa chose nursing because he wants to help people in need. He is still waiting to hear from Western.

Muzaliwa would like to thank his family for always pushing him to do well in school. He would also like to thank the teachers for supporting him in his academics.

“I am mostly excited about this year and graduating because I’m ready to go to college and start a new life. My advice for underclassman is do your work and don’t ever give up, high school goes by fast,” said Muzaliwa.

Senior Spotlight-Kigabi Muzaliwa

By Carley Eades “Kigabi is an asset to our community. He brings with him a commitment to be the best person he can be, and I wish him nothing but the best,” said paraprofessional Fran Rogers. Kigabi Muzaliwa is a model student who strives to do the best he can. He has determination and a positive outlook on life.

“I am constantly impressed with his genuine desire to improve and learn,” said English and social studies teacher Colleen Scott Keiser. “Kigabi is so determined to succeed and give back to his community and world. I am certain his resolve will carry him far in life and make a major impact on the lives of others.”

Muzaliwa is the son of Jane White and is younger than his brother Rushinga Muzaliwa.

He transferred to Webberville High School his sophomore year from Congo, Africa.

Muzaliwa has participated in a high school sports and extracurricular activities such as football, track, wrestling, choir, and vocal tech.

“We will miss everything about Kigabi! But we will especially miss his work ethic, and how coachable he is,” said Athletic Director Andrew Smith. “Muzliwa has improved from a player without any knowledge of the game to a player, who was vital role player for us.”

In his spare time Muzaliwa enjoys working, spending time with friends, and family. When he’s not with them, you can find him studying his English. It is one of the three languages that he can speak.

By Josh Schaefer Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Colin Callahan! Colin, a sophomore at Fowlerville High School, is the son of Shawn and Shelly Callahan. He has an older sister, Kaleigh, who is seventeen years old and is a senior at FHS. Mrs. Mangan commented, “Colin is a very focused young man, who takes school very seriously. He’s friendly and respectful and makes a point of being engaged in all class activities!”

Colin’s schedule consists of World History, Marketing, Biology, Spanish II, Geometry, and Sophomore Literature and Composition. His favorite class is Geometry, because “Mrs. Clough doesn’t make it a boring math class. She makes it tolerable and enjoyable. Also, I have a lot of friends in that class.” Colin’s favorite teacher is Mr. Hassenzhal, whom he had for Freshman American History.

He loved the great stories, and hopes to have Mr. Hassenzhal again in the coming years.

After graduating from high school, Colin plans to go to college somewhere in Michigan and major in Business.

Colin’s favorite part about Fowlerville High School is the Friday night football and basketball games. If he could change one thing, however, it would be that more students would get involved with sports. If he could give any advice to the underclassmen, Colin would say, “Get involved in as many activities as possible… it keeps you out of trouble and makes high school more interesting.”

In his free time after school, Colin likes to play football and basketball. He also owns a moped (fun!) and has an interest in exotic cars. When asked about Colin, Drew

A parent/guardian must transport medication to and from school. Students must be aware that they are not allowed to administer medication to other students. Medication must also be in its original container and include the physician’s instructions.

Aroun d the This is a good weekend to install your driveway markers for snow removal. Whether you shovel or plow, the markers will help you locate the drive on those snowy evenings when you arrive home after dark. You may not plan on having your drive plowed, but if a neighbor wants to help or a large snow arrives you may want the option to use a plow truck. Your address is an important piece of information to have visible on your home all year, but especially during winter. If your address is posted low on a boulder it may be covered with snow. I use a reflective address sign on a post to add visibility to my home during winter.

In an emergency your address is a critical time saver for first responders. As your thoughts turn to setting up the Christmas tree, let’s also think safety. If you have pets or small children, the tree can be easily pushed over. You can use a ¾ plywood base and secure the base to it. Then add weight to the wood base and cover with your tree skirt.

This should help prevent the tree from falling.

Every year I mention to place a smoke detector inside the tree. It won’t be seen, so if a problem occurs and a fire starts in the tree, you will have the earliest warning. On that note, it probably is a good time to remind you to check all your smoke detectors for proper operation and battery replacement. The heating season has started. Along with properly operating smoke detectors, you should also have carbon monoxide sensors. This will warn you if any of your heating equipment is producing this deadly gas, which is colorless and odorless.

Many people are using electric space heater to warm a room verses heating the entire home to save energy. Make sure your homes wiring can support these units and follow the directions that come with the units. Never use an extension cord with these units. Also while decorating inside and out inspect your light strings for damage. If you’re installing lights outside make sure they are being connected to GFCI plug (ground fault circuit interrupter).

These areas will be full of snow and if you, the kids, or grandkids are in these areas you don’t want anyone getting hurt. Everyone loves to have a fire in the fireplace for the holidays. Make sure you have been mindful of the condition of your chimney and any creosote build-up.

As I drive thru the neighborhoods, I see many homes with this heavy black fire hazard ‘caked’ on their chimney

caps. I can only imagine the build-up on the inside of the flue. The built-up creosote can start a chimney fire, which ultimately leads to a major house fire. Contact your chimney cleaning company for more details. Finally, although important all year, don’t forget to keep up on your monthly septic system treatments. The bacteria in the tank are important to its proper operation. You will hopefully be having friends over to share the holiday and these parties add to the usage of your septic system. Fowlerville boy’s junior varsity basketball team defeats South Lyon The Fowlerville boy’s junior varsity team opened its season Tuesday night, December 4 with a hard fought 4128 win against South Lyon East.

The Little Glads held a slim 15-14 lead at half, before pulling away by out scoring the Cougars 26-14 in the second half. Drew Vielbig led the charge with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Connor Collins chipped in with 11 points (all in the 2nd half), and Kenny Ferris added 11 rebounds for the Glads.

Jess B. Lebow, Jr. Jess B. Lebow Jr., age 80, of Howell, died Friday, November 30, 2012.

He was born November 6, 1932 in Detroit to Jess B. Lebow Sr. and Dolores (Friend) and married Rebecca (Hesse) in Brighton on Dec. 2, 1985. He was an Engineering Tech for the GM Proving grounds in Milford, loved bowling and Ham radio.

Surviving are his wife: Rebecca, four children; Rosemarie Lebow of Brick, New Jersey, Michael of Fowlerville, David of Portland, Maine and Simone Alvarez of Arizona, 11 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren, sister Nita Zimmer of Winter Springs, Florida. Private services will be held later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston County Humane Society.

Melissa Perry Roy Grace M. Magnone Grace M. Magnone, age 82, of Fowlerville, died Sunday December 2, 2012.

She was born June 10, 1930 in Detroit to Norman LaTourette and Anna Mae (Duellman). She married Vincent “Jim” Magnone on August 4, 1951 at St. Clements Catholic Church in Dearborn. Grace was a legal secretary for AAA and enjoyed needlepoint, flower and herb gardening and was an avid reader. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years: Jim, five daughters: Janis (James) Orleman of Canton, June (Frank) Mauerer of Fowlerville, Linda (Garry) Dolecki of Williamston, Donna Stitt of Dearborn Heights and Gina (Kevin) Newell of Dexter, 13 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren and her sister: Shirley (Alfred) Jankowski.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law: Daniel Stitt.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Fr. Louis Ekka officiating. Interment took place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fowlerville.

Melissa Perry Roy, age 36, died November 25, 2012 from pancreatic cancer. She returned to Denver, Colorado on November 3, 2012 to see, receive closure, and feel the love from all of her family and friends. She passed away peacefully knowing the Lord Jesus Christ and angels around her.

Melissa was born on October 22, 1976.

Melissa is survived by Benjamin Scrivner, daughter Kendra, age 3, mother: Margaret Perry, brother: Steve Perry and sister: Linda Perry Jorstad, two nieces and two nephews, and many friends from Wal-Mart. Melissa will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her father, Al Perry.

A memorial service is being held on December 14, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Fowlerville at 2 pm.

Martha E. Soos Soos, Martha E. of Howell, Michigan Her Legacy…Age 79 passed away surrounded by her family on December 5, 2012. Martha was born on July 19, 1933 in Redford Township, Michigan to William and Catherine Reed. Martha started her career as a telephone operator for Ma (Michigan) Bell. Then on October 23, 1954Martha married the late William F. Soos and together they raised 6 children. She went on to work at Tri-State Hospital Supply (Centurion) for 28 and half years. Martha was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a giving and proud grandmother and great grandmother.

Her Family…Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband William F., her treasured daughter Pamela Soos-Martell and her cherished dog Freddy, her parents and 7 siblings. Loving mother of William A. of Howell, Lynn (Scott) Van Patten of Howell, Paula (Jim) Kobylski of Asbury, NJ, Heidi (Don) Bryant of Howell, Rod (Eileen) Soos of Howell, and son-in-law Mike Martell of Mt. Trinity United Methodist Church holding Service of the Longest Night Trinity United Methodist Church is hosting a Service of the Longest Night on Thursday, December 20 at 7 pm. Elizabeth Williams School of Dance presenting 10th annual Nutcracker performance Elizabeth Williams School of Dance is celebrating its 10th Nutcracker and the school’s 20th Anniversary at the Fowlerville Performing Arts Center on Friday, December 14 at 7:00 pm or Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 pm.

Miss Liz recalling her first Nutcracker, 20 years ago: “When I first opened our school, I was still dancing with Stanley Godfrey of the “Young Michigan Dances” company. He and I decided to share our stages, cast and direct a Nutcracker together. It was a delight to go to Coldwater to the great Tibbits Opera House and they came to Williamston High School. Since then our school has held the full Nutcracker Ballet every other year and story ballets on the odd years.”

“Through the years students tell me about how many roles they’ve danced and the stories behind the scenes, which is a joy to hear and have built memories for them and me.”

Three of our principle dancers this year have danced in our ballets since age three, Victoria Coykendall (Sugar Plum- from Williamston), Grace Lounsbury (Snow Queen – from Williamston) and Mackenzie Elliott (Caviler, Snow King and Nutcracker – from Fowlerville). Fowlerville boy’s basketball team kicks off season, defeats South Lyon 59-50

Howell Area Aquatic Center welcoming Santa on December 15

The boy’s varsity basketball team started the season on a high note Tuesday, December 4 as they defeated South Lyon East 59 to 50.

Fowlerville was up 27 to 24 at the half. They had as much as a 14-point lead in the 4th before East made a little come back. The Gladiators missed free throws and East's offensive rebounding made the game a little closer than it could have been. Joey Ackerman led the Gladiators with 22 points and was 8-14 shooting from the floor. Carter Collins had an outstanding night with 7 assists and only 1 turnover as well as hitting some clutch free throws in the fourth quarter. FEMA funds awarded to Livingston County for emergency efforts

Millville United Methodist Church hosting cantata on December 16

Livingston County has been awarded Federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. Livingston County has been allocated $15,878 from the Michigan Set-Aside funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Local Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated

by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs directly related to the average number of unemployed individuals.

A Local Board will determine how the funds awarded to Livingston County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations in the area.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private, voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, 5) if they are a private, voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board, and 6) not be debarred or suspended from receiving federal funds.

-Sierra Club EventsANNUAL WINTER OWL WATCH WALK AND POTLUCK OUTING: Join the Crossroads Group of the Sierra Club for their fascinating and popular, annual outing to watch the nesting owls in Brighton State Recreation Area on Saturday, January 12.

The potluck begins at 5PM at the home of Lee Burton and Roberta Shaw-Reeves at 6277 Cowell Road, south of Brighton, with an introduction to owls and their calls. At 7PM all participants will walk into the nearby Brighton State Recreation Area to call for owls. Bring a flashlight, a dish to pass, beverages and warm clothes for a winter walk in the woods.

Champion Chevrolet holds Grand Opening of remodeled dealership A festive crowd was on hand for the Grand Opening of the newly remodeled Champion Chevrolet dealership on South Grand Avenue in Fowlerville. Shortly after noon a new, large American flag was dedicated by members of the Fowlerville VFW Post, the Webberville High School band played the National Anthem, and the ceremonial ribbon was cut by company officials.

Len Nadolski, president of the Champion automotive company that now includes five dealerships, told the assembled group that this project was “an example of people working together in a cooperative manner that promotes business, increases area jobs, and adds tax revenues.”

The overall project cost around $600,000, he said in later comments.

“We’ve added 4,000 square feet to our service area,” he noted. “This has allowed us to double the number of service bays to 14, including an express oil change bay.

We’ve also added employees and now have 12 mechanics and porters in that department.”

Another 4,000 square feet of space was added to the front show room area where 12 sales associates can work with customers. The local dealership also includes eight office and support staff members. Of those 32 employees, seven are new hires as a result of the expansion.

“Most of the people working for us in this facility are from the Fowlerville area,” said Nadolski.

“The new front entrance, the color and décor, and other features are part of Chevrolet’s image program,” he pointed out. “We used a number of local trades for various parts of the project, We try as much as possible to give back to the community. Our goal as a company is to treat our customers and those who work for us as family and friends.”

The Champion automotive company purchased the local dealership last November from the Waldeckers. The transaction included their Brighton store. The remodeling work began this past spring.

Nadolski said he’s been in the automotive business for 32 years. “I took a sales job right out of college at Matthews Hargreaves Chevrolet in Royal Oak,” he noted. “At the time all I owned was an old jalopy.

Later, he and a partner purchased the Champion Chevrolet store in Brighton, and it was subsequently moved to its present location at the Lake Chemung exit off of I-96 in Genoa Township.
