Fowler Dodge surprises Capitol Hill High School with Brand New Instruments The CHHS Pride of the Southside Band has been rapidly growing in recent years.

As a result, they were running low on instruments. 98 percent of the students use schoolowned instruments, and some of the instruments were over 30 years old.

Mrs. Asbury, band teacher, posted a request for $13,000 in new instruments on the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public School’s website, Partners in Action. When Fowler Dodge saw the request, they wanted to help bring new instruments to students in

the dealership’s immediate community.

On March 8, Fowler Dodge, with the help of Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse, surprised Mrs. Asbury’s class with 15 new instruments. Sales advisor Chris Branda and Keaton Coats represented Fowler Dodge presented the instruments just in time for their band competition. The surprise was filmed and aired by local TV news. After seeing year over year increases in sales for the month of March, April followed suit at an even higher rate of increase and May is off to a solid start giving us a chance to beat last year handily. This is the trend we wanted to see and it definitely hasn’t happened by accident. To put it bluntly: We have

our plan, we’re sticking to it and we’re picking up speed. Or, as my dad would say, “we’ve got the right people on the bus, we’re in the right seats, and we know where we’re going.” We’ve been talking about how important the people of this company are for some time and we mean it. Our training and processes are getting tighter every month, our marketing strategies are driving customers to the stores and our reputation in the communities that we serve is strong. As long as we strive to provide truly exceptional service for our customers in our stores to match our community reputation, we can’t be beat.

The opportunity ahead is great and I know we’re all working hard to make sure that we seize it. I have tremendous confidence in where we’re going and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of this company.

Fowler Volkswagen technician, Jason Williams is celebrating after completing an intensive training program to become an expert in his field. Jason has recently gained the highly acclaimed Master Technician status after working his way through the Volkswagen Academy training program. Jason attended over 15 classes that average 2.5 days each

session, and Fowler VW’s investment in Jason’s Master Technician education has totaled over $100,000.

We are very proud of Jason’s accomplishment and honored to invest in his career at Fowler Volkswagen!

Employee Spotlight: Candace Murphy F&I ADVISOR BY DAY, FLOWER MARKET VENDOR BY WEEKEND, CANDACE MURPHY TELLS US ABOUT HER PLANT NURSERY, FARMERS MARKETS AND SUPPORTING LOCAL GROWERS.

FA: What do you do in your time outside of working at Fowler?

CM: My husband, Sean and I have a 75 acre farm that we run a small herd of cows and chickens. We also have a couple of commercial size greenhouses that we grow bedding plants (flowers for landscapes) in the spring and fall. We primarily sell at the Norman Farmers Market, do a few small fund-raisers, and sell to landscapers or anyone that enjoys planting flowers.

FA: How did you get interested in starting a nursery?

CM: We wanted something to keep the children busy, because a busy kid doesn’t have time to get into trouble.

It worked! Both are grown and out

of the home. We all learned selling techniques, marketing and most of all people skills by selling at the market.

We have been doing this around 20 years now.

FA: What is your involvement with the Cleveland County Fairgrounds?

CM: Fall pansy’s I think, they are the heartiest and happiest.

FA: Why is it important to support local growers instead of big box stores?

CM: Local growers have healthy fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, chickens, cheese , honey, herbs, wine, and, of course, flowers and plants.

The growers can tell you when they planted, what they planted with, how long until germination and then it’s all sold fresh to you. Big box stores can tell you when to expect a truck in, but not how long your produce sat on the truck to ripen or how much stuff was sprayed on it to keep it looking fresh.

At the end of the day if you didn’t have the big box stores, computers, TV’s, etc. to rely on, the farmers would still be able to supply you with a sustainable healthy food source.

In the end growers work for Mother Nature, and have to adapt to her work place.

I am on the board of the Norman Farm Market Vendors Association.

We are trying to renew the interest in the Farmers Market as a healthy alternative to the big box stores.

I have been a vendor for 15 or more years. We have made a lot of friends there while selling flowers, sometimes visiting more than selling.

FA: What is your favorite plant to grow and sell?
