ow!, it’s been a fast paced first 100 days as the new Club Manager, and I must say it’s been a lot of fun too. I’ve met so many great people, it’s exciting to see everyone’s passion for the Club family and the community here in Las Colinas. I look forward to meeting and seeing many more of you in the coming weeks.

Throughout my early time here, I see so many positive things, but also bring a new perspective and new eyes to a few areas that need to be changed. I am working on identifying all of the areas where the staff here can improve, where we can offer events and gatherings that are enjoyable for all, and of course everywhere that we can add meaningful value to your membership at the Sports Club. We can always be better, and we’ll strive for that each and every day. In all areas, we’ll continue to listen to your feedback through our survey as well as your membership committees, and identify the most relevant opportunities to discuss with ownership and the Board in an effort to be the absolute best Club we can be. You will begin to see some changes in how we do things, and in particular, what types of events we offer. Our goal is to find a way to have something for everyone, but to do so in a manner where we can make sure the execution is flawless and you and your family are happy and safe. The goal is to create a Club that you enjoy frequently and are proud to show your family and friends. First order of business is to try to improve communication throughout the Club. The communication among staff has already improved in my opinion, and we’ll continue to get better there. We want to improve communication with all of the Members, so look for additional weekly watch updates on events, projects, and anything else we are doing to improve membership value. We’ll utilize email to everyone, but we are also working hard to create the Four Seasons Sports Club app that will allow for an interactive and personalized experience for every member. This new app will be avaialble very soon for Android or Apple devices so please be on the lookout for this announcement in the next few weeks and download from the Apple store or Google Play as soon as you can. We are focused on creating events and programming that will be tailored to your personal experience and sense of belonging here at the Club. all is one of the most exciting times to be a Sports Club member, with all of the Cool October events to keep us all working together towards a common goal of supporting cancer services here in Irving at the Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center via the Irving Healthcare Foundation (IHF). This year our goal is to achieve $3 million in total donations to the IHF. We are so close and there are many ways for all of us to participate and show our support of a healthier Irving. The Spin-a-thon is back with Michelle leading the challenge against Paul’s golf marathon and Robin and our pros’ tennis marathon. We have moved the party to the end of the month, on October 29th. Please start formulating your chili recipe and theme now. That will again be a night you won’t want to miss and sure to be fun for the entire family!

ince 1992, the hotel employees, Sports Club members, local corporations,

and community partners have raised just over $2.6 million to directly support cancer services at the Baylor Scott & White Charles A.

Every single advancement at the Cancer Center has been either fully or partially funded by Four Seasons Dallas, and we are their largest corporate donor.

The next proven advancement in diagnostic treatment of breast cancer, 3D mammography converts digital breast images into a stack of vein thin layers or “slices”— building what is essentially a 3-dimensional mammogram. This allows radiologists to look at breast tissue in far greater detail than a traditional mammogram. Bringing this technology to the cancer center is important because they see more younger patients there and these are the clients who typically have denser breast tissue that benefits most from this 3-dimensional imaging. 6,000 patients per year will benefit from this equipment.

Brandon Smith Director of Club Food and Beverage Thank you for the warm welcome to the Club! As a Texas native and graduate from Texas Tech University in Hotel, Restaurant, Institutional Management, I began my career with Four Seasons in 2006.

I worked in various outlets including Racquets, Cabana, Cafe on the Green, Room Service and Bars. I transferred to the tiny island of Lana’i, Hawaii in 2010 and assumed the position of Director of Restaurants at the Four Seasons Lodge at Koele. My responsibilities were overseeing two restaurants, bar, golf course, room service, stewarding and banquets. Due to a family related matter, my wife, Diana, and I needed to come back to the mainland and I was fortunate enough to assume the position of Veranda General Manager at the Four Seasons Las Vegas in 2012. I oversaw the multi-million dollar restaurant and bar in one of my personal goal regions in the US and one of the mecca food and beverage towns.

After not hitting the mega millions jackpot despite several attempts, I took the opportunity to move back to the great state of Texas in 2015 as Assistant Director of Resort Food & Beverage. Over the course of one and a half years on the hotel side, we reconcepted Cafe on the Green to become LAW, enhanced the pool experience at Agave, fun and unique offerings at the Bars (currently undergoing renovations to become OUTLAW ), new amenities in Room Service, etc.

My travels have taken me to some really great destinations and in those, my passion for food and beverage expanded with each different culture and demographic. Diana and I are thrilled to be back in our home state of Texas and I am truly excited for the new opportunity on the Club. I look forward to meeting you all in the near future.

Choosing the Right Workout

BY WELL & BEING STAFF inding the right workout routine for your specific goals is the key to success. If you want results, you need to follow a program that is going to appropriately challenge you. One of the reasons why most people don’t stick to a daily routine is because they get bored. Their routine isn’t challenging.

F

Workouts need to be fun! I understand why people quit their workout routine when all they do is walk on the treadmill or mindlessly walk around the gym from machine to machine. Boring! Change it up, get excited and find something that stimulates you.

For serious results and to feel amazing, you need a workout routine that has a beginning and an end, recovery days and high intensity days. A nutrition plan will help you reach your goals. Make sure it aligns with your S.M.A.R.T. Goal.

THIS MEANS: 1. SPECIFIC: Set a very specific goal for what you want to accomplish.

2. MEASURABLE: Your goal needs to

be measurable. Make sure that you include some way to measure your progress. It’s the best way to stay motivated and on track.

3. ATTAINABLE: Most of the time people set goals that are too low. I say aim HIGH, but make sure it’s still attainable.

4. REALISTIC: Setting a realistic goal is one of the best things you can do to stay motivated, otherwise you’ll become very frustrated because you aren’t seeing results.

5. TIMELY: When do you want to reach your goal? How much time do you have to spend on your workouts and nutrition?

All workout routines should incorporate a core workout program and functional 3D movements which occur in all directions, not just forward and back. This will help you build functional strength, which will help you perform better in every day life and sport.

The best workout routines for weight loss incorporate weight lifting workouts and high intensity cardiovascular training like

treadmill workouts and track workouts.

These types of routines work best for those who need to start slow and increase intensity as they become ready.

This type of training is also the best way to increase your fitness level if you have hit a plateau.

If your goal is to lower your body fat, then train like an athlete. Boot camp workouts and jump rope workouts are awesome for getting lean. Both of these types of workouts can be done anywhere with very little equipment, so they are perfect for people who travel and don’t have a lot of time to workout.

The ultimate goal of any workout routine is to increase your metabolism (through exercise) so you don’t have to eat like a bird in order to lose weight and stay fit.

My journey to fitness My journey started when I realized I was not being fair to my body. While I always was active with working out, I did not take my overall fitness seriously. I began to watch Lynn and saw the results she achieved with her clients. It was at this point I decided to make a commitment and approach Lynn. I didn’t really know what I was in for. I was prepared for the grueling physical requirements, I was not prepared for the in depth look into my dietary habits and needs. Lynn set a program that addressed both. The results were immediate. The real motivation continued with my daily nutritional log and regular body measurements Lynn would take. It’s very exciting when you see your body fat continuing to drop from 40.5% to 20.5%.

I lost more weight than I could have ever imagined. But you know us girls, we don’t like to lose and tell. I will say after losing 40 pounds Lynn brought a 40 pound jacket and had me wear for my workout. This was to show me at this point how much I had been carrying around needlessly.

Lynn and I began this journey together. For me it has been a life altering experience and the journey continues.

HIT MORE GREENS TIM’s TIP

Shooting lower scores is everyone’s goal. One way to do it is hit more greens. Often times

just aiming into the center of the green is the answer. Far too many times I see golfers aim directly at every pin during the course of the round. I would color code them: green, yellow and red. Green is usually for pins in the middle and you can take ‘dead aim.’ Yellow provides some caution and you should aim accordingly. Red means danger is around that pin and you should aim in the center of the green, take your 30-40 foot putt and move on. Hitting more greens also makes your round less stressful. Give it try in your next round, you’ll be thankful.

2016 Junior Club Championship We had our 2016 Junior Club Championship on August 20th and 21st on Cottonwood Valley and TPC. 27 kids participated and we dodged some gloomy weather! We had both a 9 and 18 hole division and the scores were great! In the 9 hole division, Jacob Garcia beat Tim Sparks in a sudden death playoff to become our 9 hole club champion. Cole Defeo came in 3rd. Anna Takahashi became our 18 Hole Girls Club Champion and Henry Guan won the 18 Hole Boys division with Henry Kirkpatrick placing 2nd and Andrew Chow 3rd. ydrangea quercifolia, known commonly as oakleaf hydrangea or oak-leaved hydrangea, is a species of flowering plant native to the Southeastern United States, in woodland habitats from North Carolina west to Tennessee, and south to Florida and Louisiana. A deciduous shrub with white showy flower heads, it is a commonly grown garden plant.

Numerous cultivars are available commercially. It tolerates shade very well and is a great addition to areas receiving little to no sunlight.

antana is a perennial flowering plant native to tropical regions of the Americas and Africa but exist as introduced species in numerous areas especially in the Australia/Pacific area. Lantana’s aromatic flower clusters (called umbels) are a mix of red, orange, yellow, or blue and white florets.

Other colors exist as new varieties are being selected. The flowers typically change color as they mature, resulting flowers that are two- or three-colored. Lantana is a very heat tolerant plant great for texas landscapes and come back every year as it is a perennial.

The Club Championship & Senior Club Championship The Club Championship weekend in early June included both the Club Championship and Senior Club Championship being played over the same weekend. The Men’s Championship flight first round opened the weekend with round one played on Friday followed by a cocktail reception and games at the Payne Stewart suite.

The remaining flights and Senior championships would then be played over the rest of the weekend.

This years Championship flight was smaller than expected with four players battling for the honors over the three days, round one on Cottonwood Valley Jake Istnick opened up a 12 shot lead that he never gave up. Jake followed up with rounds of 75 & 78 to win his third Club Championship title.

Defending Champion Suzanne Kenkel was looking to make it 3 in a row and 5 overall titles. Her strong opening round on Cottonwood of 77 lead the field by 8 shots over Magarita Acosta and 11 shots over Michele Wallace. Second day 82’s by both Suzanne and Magarita allowed Suzanne to take home the trophy for the third year in a row.

The ladies also played the Senior

Championship at the same time.Magarita Acosta was the defending champion and with her two consistent rounds of 85 & 82 allowed her to remain the Senior Champion for a second consecutive year.

The Senior Club Championship was a fiercely contested title with seven time Champion Mike Puls, defending Champion Steve Nichols and past champions all battling to regain the title. Day one had Mike Puls finished poorly following the weather delay with bogeys on the last two holes on Cottonwood for a even par 71 to be level with Steve Nichols, both 1 ahead of Jerry Gatti on 72, 2 ahead of Roger Beynon and 4 of ahead of Mark Bearden and Mike Neece.

The final day on TPC had two players going head to head coming down the stretch. The drama started on the par 5 16 hole when Steve drove the ball out of bounds to make a double bogey 7 while Mike makes par and the scores are flip flopped with Mike taking a one shot lead. Hole 17 and Mike continued to put the pressure on with a tee shot to 15’ while Steve hit another poor shot into the water. Mike with a 2 shot lead on 18 , both players pushed their tee shots in to the trees and has to chip out short of the green, Mike played first on to the front of the green leaving a 20’ for par.
