WELCOME FROM THE CHAMBER

The Fountain Inn Chamber of Commerce is a vital part of ongoing growth that is taking place in Greenville County. Your membership in the Chamber provides unparalleled opportunities to connect with peers, current and prospective clients, and partners up and down the Golden Strip of South Carolina. Using social media, customized videos, business consultation, and events designed with health and safety as the priority, the Chamber showed its strength and innovation to assist and advocate for its membership – and it worked! Further, the programs and events we present provide extraordinary opportunities to grow needed networks and gain new insights to address the ever-changing challenges facing all of us in business today. By working together as Chamber members, we have a much stronger voice with our elected leaders as they contemplate policy revisions and new rules and regulations that create greater certainty and an improved environment for business in the Fountain Inn community. Our body of work ranges from the widely known Business After Hours, Taste INN event, Annual Banquet and meeting, Aunt Het Festival, Annual Christmas Parade, and more listed in this directory. We also organize Women at Work events and collaborate with local business and corporations to offer extraordinary opportunities to enhance networks and relationships. You can reach out to our Chamber to discover programs covering education, leadership development, business growth and networking.

As we look to the future, we continue our strategic planning for this quickly evolving business environment to offer our members more tools to be successful moving forward. To make all the programs possible, the Fountain Inn Chamber actively recruits local member support at a variety of levels. While many local companies provide supplemental funding, others provide sponsorship funding for specific events. However, our largest supporters are our local business members, which are critical to fulfilling our mission. Our local business relationships have never been more important than now as we navigate these uncertain times. We are very excited about the future of our community and the success of our members. As always, our Chamber provides unmatched opportunities to align with old and new relationships and network with prospective customers, as well as a dynamic schedule of events. Whether you are new to Fountain Inn or a long-time resident, if you are ready to take advantage of all that the Chamber offers its members, we look forward to hearing from you. On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for helping strengthen our business community and promoting local business. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events! Heidi J. WELCOME FROM O U R M AY O R

GP McLeer Mayor, City of Fountain Inn

Welcome to Fountain Inn! On behalf of our City Council, our staff, and your neighbors, we’re happy you have chosen to spend some time in our fair city! Fountain Inn’s location in southern Greenville County and northern Laurens County makes our city the perfect location for those looking to live in a small town, but still have easy access to all that our part of the state has to offer. Our businesses, from small stores to large manufacturers, provide stable employment opportunities, while our housing market makes it possible for families to have a wonderful place to come home to after work or school. Our business community continues to grow, with over $300 million in investment and 1,000 jobs created in just the last two years - and that’s just in our large manufacturing sector in and around Fountain Inn. Add to that the over 10% increase year-over-year in new business licenses (a marker of our small business growth), and the dozen or so new establishments in and around our historic downtown. Business is good in Fountain Inn! Paired with the healthy growth in new business, we’ve seen our fair share of residential growth as well. At the City, I’m happy to report that we’re working on ways to make sure that, as we grow, we’re modernizing our zoning and taking big steps to ensuring that the character, small town charm, city services, and the infrastructure that make our community one of the best small towns around are all aligned so that we never grow out of who we are. Our community is buzzing throughout the year with activity, and I hope you will be able to experience some, or all, of it at some point. Our summer concert series, Sounds of Summer, takes place every Friday, and our Farmers Market is open on Saturday mornings during the summer. You can stop by our Splash Pad on Main during the warmer months with the kids or take the whole family to one of our great parks. In the fall, between the Chamber’s Aunt Het Festival and our community Halloween events, you’ll have lots of opportunities to see your neighbors, meet new folks, and frequent our local shops. Christmas is a special time in our town, with our “Christmas INN Our Town” festival, you can take a quaint horse-drawn carriage ride through the city, take a photo with Santa, and do a little (or a lot!) of shopping. Whether you’ve just moved here, opened your business here, or you’re just visiting, thank you for being a part of our community’s story!

W H AT ’ S N E X T F O R F O U N TA I N I N N ? Our city has seen many positive investments, from Greenville County building a state-of-the-art education facility to industrial manufacturing bringing well-paying employment opportunities. Revitalizing historic downtown Fountain Inn is our next focus. Downtown Fountain Inn became an aspiring South Carolina Main Street community in 2021. Main Street is a nationally recognized technical assistance program that empowers communities as they revitalize their historic downtowns, encouraging economic development and historic preservation. The mission of Main Street Fountain Inn, a department of the City of Fountain Inn, is to preserve, manage, promote, and enhance the development of Fountain Inn’s historic downtown. All our work in Main Street will fall under one of the four key program areas: Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Vitality. We are working to partner with local businesses and property owners to enhance the design of downtown through a series of grants designed to revitalize our Main Street program area downtown. Outdoor Expansion and Beautification Grant: The grant provides up to 50% of project costs up to $20,000 in fund reimbursement to commercial properties within the Fountain Inn Main Street Program Area with infrastructure expenses to expand or beautify outdoor space intended for public use. Façade Improvement Grant: This grant provides up to 50% of project costs up to $10,000 in the fund reimbursement to commercial properties within the Fountain Inn Main Street Program Area to restore or improve building façades. Outdoor Seating and Accessories Grant: This grant provides up to 75% of project costs up to $4,000 in fund reimbursement to commercial properties within the Fountain Inn Main Street Program Area to create vibrant outdoor areas. We are excited to see how this program, in partnership with our local businesses and property owners, will transform the design of our downtown.

For more info, visit FountainInnMuseum.org

The goal of the Fountain Inn Museum is to provide all visitors with a clear view of our town’s history, from its humble beginnings to the increasing growth that led to the prospects now within sight. A secure footing in our history will enable tomorrow’s leaders to take on the unique challenges of the 21st century. The museum opened its doors in 2010 as part of Fountain Inn’s Commerce Park project. From the beginning, the aim was to accurately chronicle the town’s inception as a way station on the Charleston/North Carolina stagecoach route. Exhibits mark our progress from a rural farming population to the high tech and manufacturing industries that dot the landscape today. An appreciation of Fountain Inn’s history includes exhibits reflecting the time when Native Americans inhabited the Upstate. As European settlers began to arrive, roads and buildings soon followed, establishing communities that grew into small towns. The museum’s exhibits and displays take visitors on a chronological tour of our city’s growth, clearly illustrating the special heritage Fountain Inn holds. Along with its permanent

8

exhibits, the museum puts together seasonal displays throughout its main area and in the SC Humanities Gallery that was added in 2019. The museum offers innovative programs and tours for student groups from elementary school through high school. Special events and varying presentations provide interest even for frequent patrons such as our Hooked on History series. This features programs and guest speakers that give a greater insight into South Carolina’s history. The museum hosts guests with a range of expertise from various parts of the state to provide the community with a greater understanding of historical events and topics while highlighting some of Fountain Inn’s most notable residents such as Robert Quillen, the internationally recognized author and publisher of the Fountain Inn Tribune, and “Peg Leg” Bates, an incredible one-legged dancer who performed for millions worldwide. Make the Fountain Inn Museum part of your itinerary as you experience the exceptional atmosphere of our flourishing town. The welcome mat is out, so stop by and learn more about Fountain Inn’s origin, local history, and culture!

CITY AMENITIES

S P L A S H PA D R O TA R Y PA R K

In the heart of downtown just across the street from Commerce Park is a street-corner plaza known as Rotary Park. Brick pavers surround a fountain, which can be enjoyed from several swinging benches. Take a break here from walking around downtown and cool off in the shade as that fountain mist lowers the temperatures on even the hottest days.

Our Splash pad is fantastic because kids of any age can enjoy the water without fear of swimming, and all you need is a bathing suit and towel. Created as a project of Leadership Golden Strip in conjunction with the City of Fountain Inn the Splash Pad is a great place to relax, cool off and spend time with friends! With ice cream right across the street at The Chill Factory, this may be your new favorite daytime hangout!

SWAMP RABBIT TRAIL EV CHARGERS

The City of Fountain Inn is always looking to have the most innovative and high-tech amenities for our residents. Our electric care chargers are one example of how we are planning for the future. Located in the public parking lot on Depot Street Downtown, these chargers are just steps away from the best places to eat, sip, and play.

10

The Southernmost part of the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail starts in Fountain Inn! Fountain Inn has almost 5 miles of paved walking trails that are currently the projected ending point for the trail. It will eventually work its way from Greenville through the Golden Strip and into Laurens County. There are four main entrances/sections of the trail in Fountain Inn. The Fountain Inn Activities Center and Fountain Inn Elementary share safe routes to the school section that connects the Activities Center with the back of the school and Fairview Street Park. Woodside Park has another section of walking trails located in the back of the park near the picnic shelter. A great place to access the new section of the trail is at Mt. Zion Baptist Church off HWY 418. This section has excellent parking, a shaded loop with a picnic shelter, and over a mile of a paved trail that follows a pond and creek. You can also access the trail from Hellams Street behind the new Greenville County School District Property. There is a parking lot located at this trailhead. This will be the future connection to connect Fountain Inn to Simpsonville.

Robby Bell Athletic Director, Fountain Inn High School

F I H S AT H L E T I C S : T H E B E G I N N I N G The beginning of Fountain Inn High School Athletic Program started this past fall with Football, Volleyball, Swim, Cross Country, Girls Tennis, and Girls Golf. Our swim teams produced the first individual state qualifiers with Jackson McConkey on the boys side and Maarijka Ashworth on the girls. Both of our Cross Country Teams qualified for state with the girls placing 7th overall in the team standings. Kalie Ashworth led the way with a twelfth place finish in the SCHSL AA State Meet claiming our schools first all-state honors. This Winter has seen a lot of success with our Boys and Girls Basketball teams as well as our young Fury Wrestling Team. The Boys team finished the regular season with perfect 17-0 mark and our girls finished 6-10. Both teams made up of just ninth graders regularly competed with JV teams that were made up of ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders. The wrestling team had its first state qualifiers for MS and JV led by brothers Jack Carnes, Caden Carnes, Evan Coons, and Mason Coons. Caden was the first ever state placer in the JV division taking 4th as a first year wrestler. All spring sports are starting now and we have a lot of kids out for Boys and Girls Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Boys golf, Boys Tennis and Track & Field. We are excited about the great work our coaches are doing with our young teams and we are confident that the training they are putting in early is going to lead to competitive programs in the future. We are looking forward to the community coming out and supporting our spring sports just like they did during the fall and winter seasons. Our Softball Team will have Fountain Inn Recreation Night April 14 and the Baseball team will have FI Rec Night April 15. We will see you at the park. GO FURY!

Our department has 9 civilian and 26 sworn employees who strive daily to provide fair, impartial, and professional service to the community. The department is comprised of five divisions: Uniform Patrol, Investigations, Special Services, Communications, and Records. Each one of these specialized units play a vital role in assisting the citizens of Fountain Inn when police services are needed. In an effort to be transparent, all our officers are issued body cameras to be used during calls for service. In 2010, the department established a Citizens Review Committee to review all complaints made against employees, and the review of Use of Force incidents as well. This committee meets once per quarter and is made up of seven members from the Fountain Inn community. Our Special Services Division hosts numerous programs such as Senior Watch, Summer Camp, Citizens Police Academy, and Super Hero 5k. These programs are free to the community. The mission of the Fountain Inn Police Department and its employees is: • • • • •

F O U N TA I N I N N F I R E D E PA R T M E N T After much research the Fountain Inn Fire Department can trace it roots back to 1911. Fast forward to 2021 and we have grown tremendously. Currently our department consist of 23 full-time members and 5 part-time members. Our mission is to provide the highest level of public safety services to our community. We protect lives and property through fire suppression, emergency medical response, disaster management, fire prevention and public safety. Our members not only protect our fire district but they also participate in teams that provide assistance in the county and state such as Greenville County Emergency Response Team and South Carolina Taskforce 1. By doing this we are able to receive additional specialty training to better protect you. Our next big project is to become a Fire Safe SC Community. This is a designation given out by Fire Safe SC. Part of this project requires our department to accomplish 14 goals. There are many ways you can help with this. Follow Fountain Inn Fire Department on social media and the biggest way is to become a partner with our department to help promote fire safety information. This can be done in many ways. Maybe it hasn’t exactly been phrased that way, but in post-lockdown society, we wrestle with the concept in numerous ways. What’s a sheet of plywood worth? How about new cars (if you could find one?) Used cars? Gasoline? Computer graphics card? Commercial rent for your business? A job? A house? Minimum wage? Child tax credit? How about just a dollar? To answer this question, we need to be VERY specific about defining value. To be unquestionably clear, value is not price. Value is the usefulness of something in fulling a need or desire. Each human has their own subjective priorities. Goods and services satisfy these priorities. How important was it to buy a car last year? Well, if your old one was broken or needed extensive repair, in today’s age, a car is almost essential. (There’s another word worth defining for another time…) If your car was getting the job done, a new one moves down the list of needs and desires. So, what is price? Price is the seller’s best current estimate of the priority of the good or service for the buyers’ market in relation to the seller’s priorities of needs and desires. If I produce 200 gallons of milk for sale and need hay for my cows to continue to produce, I can price my milk in terms of my need for bales. To simplify, most people measure price in dollars, as that’s the quickest, simplest medium of exchange in a specialized division of labor economy like ours. However, dollars are an intermediate step of the value of what our labor produces as income or savings. If the value of the dollar changes, so does the price, regardless of how much we produce (supply) or our priorities of goods and services (demand.) In a perfectly efficient market, income and asset prices would increase at the same rate as the goods and services prices. Unfortunately, we have entities who affect the markets to become inefficient through money creation, taxation, and ever-changing regulation. That would be the US Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and US Congress. 1. Inflation As new money is added into the supply of all other money, we dilute the scarcity and value of all money in circulation. The most insidious part is that those that receive these dollars first have a tremendous advantage over those that are at the other end. Banks and large corporations receive this new money first. Government intervention has added the unemployed

18

to this list, leaving the workers and savers as the last to receive this devalued money under current American policy. According to the Federal Reserve’s M2SL, we had $15.4 trillion in circulation pre-lockdown, and we’re at $21.6 trillion now, that’s 40% inflation of the money supply. Did our population increase by 40%? No, it was 0.3%, according to census.gov. Did our production of goods and services increase by 40%? No, it shrunk by 2.3%, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is perfectly logical to expect tremendous increases in our consumer prices in direct relation to the devaluation of the dollar. You may want to make a mental note to ignore every “expert” who used the word ‘transitory’ last year. Unfortunately, the pricing of labor can’t and won’t keep up, for the identical reason. Middleman intervention and corruption of an efficient market. Unemployment benefits, tax credits, stimulus, Bitcoin/meme/tech stock “profits,” vaccine and mask mandates, state lockdowns, non-essential business closures, green regulation, etc. have been keeping the potentially productive on the sidelines. The labor supply has dried up, and therefore so has the supply of goods and services. Unfortunately, it’s likely more government intervention of price controls and taxation is on the way. When will we learn you can’t plan people’s priorities? 2.New Neighbors Back to the concept of value, how about the value of a house last year? If you already had a house, no big deal, right? Well, what if your house was in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Minneapolis, Detroit, Philadelphia, Kenosha, Portland? Even if people support the ideology of interventionism, they know enough to run away from the consequences. What does that lead to? A national averaging of our cost of living. A 2,500 square foot house in the suburbs of Chicago sells for $750k, so they move to Fountain Inn, SC to buy a 3,000 square foot house for $450k and pick up two small rental properties on the side. There goes the supply of local housing, pricing out local workers from the housing market. Thank the influx of refugees from areas of inept leadership. Let’s hope these new residents identify the cause of their migration and defeat the definition of insanity when it comes to electing leadership and prioritizing values. 3.American Values That takes me to the final concept of value:

moral principles and beliefs. Again, this is subjective to the individual, family, community, etc. Ten commandments, minimal taxes, rugged individualism, property rights, love your neighbor, live and let live, are just a few that come to mind. The thing that united the States for over 200 years was our collective moral principles and beliefs. Since there’s a line in the sand drawn by a growing national collectivist ideology, local unity is now the key to our pursuit of happiness. Matthew Wealth Management understands that these are challenging and complicated times. We also know that there is nearly uniform correlation between your shared values and your financial success, and that is why for over 15 years, people have trusted us with their own values which has led to their financial success. Matthews Wealth Management understands that your values are important to you which makes them important to us. We go one step further: we offer you value. The team at Matthew Wealth Management works with each one of our clients in customized ways to ensure their values grow deeper, and their influence lasts for generations to come. We understand that the recent loss of value of our labor and savings mixed with the changes we are experiencing as a nation and in our local communities, that it is more important than ever before to ensure your values are in line with your priorities of your needs, desires, along with continual personal and generational development. Control what you can control: protect the values of your household and work with someone who values those priorities and strives to see you and your future generations thrive. The approach to Financial Planning you have been looking for.

Why take unnecessary risk and pay unnecessary fees? Instead of selling investments that may or may not be right for your investing goals, Matthews Wealth Management starts at the other end of the conversation. If you were confident that you could meet your goals, maintain your lifestyle, plan for the worst, and leave a legacy to your family for less risk and less cost, why on earth would you throw your money into a portfolio solely based on “risk tolerance?” Whether you are 21 years old or 81 years old, we would love to talk with you to see how we can help you reach your financial goals.

Fountain Inn Parks and Recreation Department’s mission statement is to create community through People, Parks, and Programs. Youth Sports remain an important part of the City’s recreation offerings featuring Spring & Fall Baseball/Softball, Flag and Tackle Football, Spring & Summer Volleyball, and Winter Basketball are offered throughout the year. The popularity of youth sports In Fountain Inn has resulted in expanded programs, as well as an Adult Co-Ed Softball league, that averages 12-15 teams each summer. In March 2020, the City opened a multi-million sports venue, (formerly known as Woodside Park) the Emanuel Sullivan Sports Complex; featuring three baseball/softball fields, playground equipment highlighting Berliner playground ropes course with slide and rubber surfacing, a Miracle League field, a multi-purpose field, press box, restrooms and concessions area. In the summer of 2021, we are hopeful to open the City’s first ever Miracle League Baseball program. The Miracle League’s motto is “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball. “The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. Since the main barriers for these adults arise from the natural grass fields used in conventional leagues, Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries.” – Miracle League The Parks and Recreation Department also sponsors several community events throughout the year: the annual Soap Box Derby Race held on Aunt Het, a 1 Mile Kids Fun Run + 5K Rudolph Run in December, Pied-

The department manages nearly 50 acres of public parks, exceeding the national average for towns of this size. Eight parks offer residents a place to play, relax, and exercise. Of those (8) are Georgia Street Park, Country Chase Fitness Park, Country Gardens Greenway, Fairview Street Park, Sanctified Hill Park, PD Terry City Park, Emanuel Sullivan Sports Complex, and the Activities Center. The Activities Center provides a multi-purpose facility for people of all ages, with a full-court gymnasium, fitness center and meeting space. Senior Activities are offered Monday – Friday 7am – 12pm and are free of charge to those aged 55 and over. Senior Adult programming includes: exercise classes, walking, health screenings and educational workshops, crafts and special interest groups. It is also one of several venues in the City that offers rental spaces. Call us at 864-862-4675 for all of your rental needs. As Fountain Inn continues to grow, the Parks and Recreation Department will continue to look forward to meeting the needs and goals of the community through expanding and upgrading various facilities over the next couple of years.
