Croatia
Zagreb Away from the coastal locations, Croatia’s capital is still just as popular with anyone looking from a cultural city break. Zagreb has also benefited from the growing number of visitors to the country and provides a fantastic mix of museums, galleries and festivals to all who make the trip. Whilst the summer sees people head to Jarun Lake to dance the nights away at the discos or cool off with a dip in the water, when the colder months arrive, the locals like to don their ski gear and head to nearby Mt Medvednica. Zagreb’s Upper Town is where you will find the educational attractions, whereas the Lower Town is home to urban parks and cafés buzzing with people enjoying the city’s famous coffee culture.
Highlights • Museums – Zagreb has more museums per square foot than any other city. The different exhibitions range from the weird to the wonderful. • Zagreb 360˚ Observation Deck – From the 16th floor of the Zagreb Skyscraper, you can see how the historic squares of the Upper and Lower town contrast with the modern buildings in Novi Zagreb (New Zagreb). • Dolac Market – The locals love to buy their produce fresh from the markets and joining them is a great way to experience the real Zagreb. • Maksimir Park – Escape the bustle of the city centre in Croatia’s oldest park. As well as peaceful natural elements, this space is also where you will find the zoo. • Tkalčićeva Street – This charming, sleepy street comes to life at night when the bars, cafés and restaurants provide the setting for a delicious local meal.
Did you know? Zagreb is home to the shortest funicular in the world. The journey lasts just 64 seconds and travels between the Upper and Lower towns.
