Government decision follows the successful resumption of domestic cruise

We have managed to pull together all the latest offers, news and views for you and we hope our latest Cruising Magazine finds you well.

The resumption of international cruise follows the successful restart of domestic cruises earlier this year. Cruise lines have been sailing round Britain with enhanced protocols that go beyond any other travel sector operating today.

It really does go without saying that the past 17 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone. Throughout this time we have kept focused and positive, even when dealing with high volumes of cancellations, re-bookings and new enquiries with reduced staff numbers. We have received a lot of feedback from new customers that they had no-one to help them with their cancelled holidays as they had booked direct and had to deal with call centres or had booked online and could not get through on the phones. The upshot is - having a travel agent working for you in uncertain times is a real benefit and even though there was confusion and delays in obtaining some refunds or credit notes, ultimately we have dealt with all the time consuming chase ups and administration for our customers.

To be perfectly honest, we have gained a lot of new customers during this Pandemic, who really do see the value and worth of having a travel agent help them with everything - even the rules and regulations surrounding travelling can be difficult without guidance.

So you are undoubtedly better off having a tried and trusted travel agent on your side at all times.

Since last summer, around 800,000 people have sailed on cruises around the world, demonstrating the effectiveness of the industry-wide protocols.

In the face of adversity, we have even tried to grow our business for the future and we are now extremely proud to have 10 retail stores in East Anglia and a further 6 stores on the South Coast, bringing us to 16 retail outlets.

In spite of everything we have all been through - we can now travel again relatively safely with the breakthrough vaccinations firmly in place and there has never been a better time to reward yourself with a well-deserved cruise holiday either this year, next year, the year after or even the year after that, 2024... Just don’t miss the boat and make sure you get your booking in place, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

The framework protocols agreed with the UK Government will apply to international cruises, and will also complement the global CLIA Member Policy for all oceangoing cruise line members. For example, the current practice of 100% testing of guests on UK domestic cruising will apply to international sailings.

In light of the recent news that cruise ships are once again permitted passage in international waters. We are hoping to see more itineraries come back on sale for this year. This will take some organising as most schedules have been paused with a move to cruising UK waters.

We have put together what is currently available and will be updating this on a regular basis - so please check back or ask your cruise specialist if there is something specific you are looking for.

Cruise companies are constantly coming up with wild and wacky ways of making sure days at sea are just as memorable as those onshore. we enjoyed it so much, we have cruised two to three times a year.

My wife and I caught the cruise bug around 5 years ago. My cruise journey started a year before that when I attended a marketing conference onboard Carnival Conquest, which was in the Caribbean for a week in January. The conference was good, but the cruise with stunning destinations and so much to do onboard made me realise there was much more to a cruise than I first expected.

After returning from that first cruise, I persuaded my wife to give cruising a try and, we took our sons, who were 16 and 18 at the time, on a short cruise on P&O’s Ventura to Bruges and the Channel Islands ahead of planning any trips. Since then, as we enjoyed it so much, we have cruised (prepandemic) two to three times a year.

We are very much focused on destinations for our cruise choice and then look at which cruise line has an itinerary to suit, which is why we have cruised on (or are booked for future cruises) with Cunard, P&O, Fred. Olsen Cruise Line, Pullmantur, Carnival, MSC, Azamara and for our first ever River Cruise experience Amadeus’; South of France fine food and wine-focused cruise appealed for our summer 2022 holiday.

Virgin Voyages, Princess and Celebrity Cruises are also pencilled onto the future holiday planner as we love the look of the 14-night Sky Princess Eastern and Western Caribbean route featured on the recent Jane McDonald TV show. We also want to experience what Richard Branson’s Virgin brand is bringing to cruising and have highlighted for the longer term a Celebrity cruise with some time exploring Central/South America.

So, as you can see, from a simple conference on a ship, a whole new world of holidays has opened up to us.

Arnhem Middelburg. Just before lunchtime, your cruise ship will dock in Middelburg. As one of the centers where the Dutch East India Company flourished in the seventeenth century, this lovely city features historic merchant houses and storefronts lining its canals.

For your afternoon excursion, you can visit the Netherland’s “modern wonder of the world,” the Delta Works, which protect the southwest of the Netherlands from the sea. This excursion also includes a visit to the historic village of Veere. Alternatively, you can take part in a walking tour of Middelburg to see and learn more about its significant history and rich culture.

Antwerp Kinderdijk - Rotterdam. In the morning, pay a visit to Kinderdijk, which houses the most unique windmill complex in the world. Built to drain water from the soil, these windmills are now protected by UNESCO and are one of the Netherlands’ most popular tourist destinations. At midday, your ship will arrive in Rotterdam, the second largest city in the Netherlands.

DAY 6

After lunch, you can marvel at the Rotterdam port, Europe’s largest seaport, during a harbor cruise, and discover local delicacies in a visit to the iconic Market Hall thereafter. Alternatively, you can explore the world-famous Keukenhof gardens or take a tour to the lovely canal town of Delft, renowned for its Delft Blue ceramics which have been manufactured and hand painted there since the seventeenth century. Star Clipper will sail the shores of Central America from November 2022 through to March 2023 where she will primarily operate two seven-day round-trip itineraries from Puerto Caldera, sailing on the Pacific side of the country.

These itineraries will in turn take in Nicaragua one week, and Panama the next, and the season will begin and end with a 14-night Panama Canal sailing.
