Polish Association Northern Ireland PANI will turn five this year. Time passes by very fast, we are all getting older and our organization is getting stronger and bigger. The year 2011 will be exceptional, as we are planning to organize many events and get involved in many projects that will support Polish community living in Northern Ireland and will be a part of the celebration of our fifth anniversary. PANI was established on 11th March 2006. At the beginning it was supposed to be an organization promoting Polish culture and cooperating closely with the local communities to improve good relations between them and Polish newcomers. Soon, however, it appeared that it was not enough, that Polish people living in Northern Ireland were struggling with many problems and needed substantial support. One of the first and most important event was Polish Picnic held in 2006, which attracted more than 3 thousand spectators. During the Picnic the organizers were flooded with questions regarding practicalities of life and work in Northern Ireland. We concluded that there was a need to set up an advisory office that would be run in Polish. So, in September 2006, we opened such an office that, from its commencement, was accessible only on Saturdays, but in June 2008 it became a full time project. Then we started running English classes, photography courses, psychological consultation and quite recently- a youth club “Kameleon”. In 2010 PANI became a partner of “Migrant Centre” project, initiated by NICEM. Anybody interested in participating in our projects or seeking help and support is cordially invited to contact us at the premises of PANI. Maciek Bator, director
