You can contact the team directly on 0113 3781800 and make an appointment with one of our admin staff.

They will take some basic details from you and offer you an appointment slot during school hours. One of the Therapeutic Social Workers will then ring you back for further background information about the child to ensure they have appropriate information and materials available for the appointment. You will receive written confirmation of the appointment time and will be seen at 15 Lavender Walk.

What is it for?

We know that caring for children who have had very troubled lives is not always easy. There are ups and downs and this can feel very draining for carers. Sometimes it’s helpful to talk this through with someone who has experience of these situations. We may also have some different ideas about how to manage the difficulties without you feeling overwhelmed.

What can we offer you?

We offer a regular, appointment based service for foster carers, kinship carers or SGO Carers with concerns about a child they are currently looking after. The Fostering Surgery runs on a Monday and Friday. The Fostering Surgery is for carers who don’t already receive a service from the Therapeutic Social Work Team or CAMHS.

This would involve a maximum of three consultation sessions (five for kinship carers). Each will last one hour. We can look at specific issues such as: behaviour problems, bed wetting, attachment difficulties, soiling and smearing, sexually harmful behaviour. These are just examples and it is ok to ring us to discuss whether this service might meet your needs.

The child’s social worker / supervising fostering officer will know you are coming as we think it’s important that they support you. Feel free to bring them if you would find this helpful.

You will receive a written record of our discussion, copies of which will also be sent to the social worker and fostering support officer.

Any child protection concerns which arise out of a consultation will also be passed on to the relevant workers.
