Noting a dire lack of diversity in the interiors industry, United in Design, headed up by Sophie Ashby and Alexandria Dauley, have announced a host of exciting apprenticeships in 2021 for aspiring black, Asian and minority ethnic designers. Confirmed placements include Fabric favourites Katharine Pooley, Fromental, The New Craftsmen and of course, Studio Ashby. “This industry needs to be driven by talent rather than access and I’m so proud to be playing even a small part in this call for change, which is long overdue,” says Dauley. Swing state

With our wanderlust on overdrive right now, La Manufacture Cogolin’s bespoke rugs, inspired by the beauty of the world, provide a moment of escape. Stéphane Parmentier’s Nord/Sud collection for the brand features five rugs and two runners, intricately hand-knotted and available in an earthy colour palette informed by travel, while the patterning echoes that of traditional paving stones found throughout France. “Depending on the colours, you are transported either to a picturesque Provençal square or to a busy Parisian street”, the designer says. £9,925 (manufacturecogolin.com)

While it may be a little premature to start thinking about patio furniture, the Fable hanging armchair takes its design cue from a garden swing, bringing the spirit of the outdoors to our living spaces. And it is a sleek and contemporary number in a wholly sophisticated colourway: choose fabric or synthetic leather upholstery, and a black lacquered or copper plated stainless steel structure. Suspended on adjustable faux leather straps, we can choose the perfect height for our new favourite spot – and see out winter here. €2,960 (myface.eu)

Casa Mayfair

Luxury tiling specialists Porcelanosa have announced the opening of a new UK flagship store and – music to the ears of design-loving Londoners – it’s located at Hanover Square. Known for its chic, contemporary design and strong Spanish heritage, the brand is one of Europe’s best loved. The Mayfair showroom promises an interactive experience with cutting edge displays and a vast product range. A welcome, and suitably stylish, addition to W1 – and it’s top of our list to visit as soon as we can. 7-10 Hanover Square, W1S
