building resiliency

ready & resilient

From time to time, we deal with an unexpected Family emergency, unreasonable people, bumper-to-bumper traffic or challenges in the workplace. These events may result in stress brought on by the emotional reaction to the challenge and not the incident itself. In order to ward off negative thinking, we can reframe what we tell ourselves about the event. By conscientiously focusing on changing our reaction to challenges, we can train ourselves to accept the things we cannot change and instead focus on reframing negative self-talk. By practicing positive reframing, we may avoid becoming overwhelmed by events that are not within our control. Should you wish to speak with someone, visit the EAP Team at Lewis Main, 2008B N. 3rd Street (Room 114). Additionally, you may also reach a member of the EAP team at 253-732-2214.

JBLM command leadership wants you to know that readiness is a top priority. For our Service members, that means they must be resilient and ready to deploy, fight and win decisively. But what does being “Ready and Resilient” mean to our Families, civilians and retirees in the community? Surviving I-5 traffic or 30 days of nonstop rain may be measures of resiliency as a JBLM community member, but it goes even deeper than that! Family resilience is an integral part of the five dimensions of the Army’s Ready and Resilient — or R2 — framework. The military recognizes that strong Families mean strong Service members and a strong military force. The resources at JBLM are abundant to help build resilience in our community to include: • Improving financial fitness. • Increasing healthy behaviors.
