Fortis Design is a digital product studio crafting gorgeous and functional applications with a data-driven approach.
We utilize visual quality assurance (VQA), usability testing and user research to bridge the gap between your organization’s strategy and development.
We are a collective of thinkers that bring skills and perspectives from disparate disciplines (academic research, engineering, technical writing, design thinking, UI/UX design) to craft exceptional products and services that put your organization and its people first.
We approach problems through systems: understanding who it impacts, how we might bring in resources and tools to enable change, and what we can achieve together.
We’re delighted to collaborate with you!
A product is more than the product. It is a cohesive, integrated set of experiences. Think through all of the stages of a product or service–from initial intentions through final reflections, from first usage to help, service, and maintenance. Make them all work together seamlessly. That’s systems thinking.
– Don NormanWe don’t believe in “just” doing anything.
We use a data-driven approach to gather insights and identify opportunities for meaningful change across your organization.
Our team brings expertise from human-centered design methodologies, quantitative and qualitative research, and an in-depth understanding of the strategy, design, and technology implications of the products and services you create.

We utilize an agile approach to: discover the problem, define the problem, develop potential solution(s), and deliver a solution.
We partner with our clients to craft exceptional experiences that last.
We emphasize frequent iteration and bringing in relevant stakeholders to strategize, collaborate, and develop together.
We’ve included some examples to demonstrate our unique approach in detail.
Case 1: ExplainaBoard, a Na ural Language Processing (NLP) dashboard.
Our greatest impact, however, has always been with unifying our systems with people.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) model performance platform for developers.

What we did
Researched insights for a new target user group
UI/UX design (desktop only)
Vision for product transformation
Challenge Support ExplainaBoard in its transition from an educational product to a industry developer intelligence platform, craft partnerships with potential target user groups in the industry, use qualitative and quantitative data to drive product decisions.
Outcome
We redesigned ExplainaBoard’s platform to align with its new market, analyzed results from potential users to reduce user churn and usability issues, and documented the new product vision through specs and a roadmap.
User research informed Inspired Cognition’s understanding of their ideal target users, avenues for feature exploration, and the resulting product vision.
Semi-structured interviews to gain an understanding of how ExplainaBoard may/may not align with certain groups; exploring mental models.
Consolidating findings and rapidly testing prototypes of ExplainaBoard’s new features; identifying gaps between user expectations and the current/future product.
Mitigating usability issues with the future launch of Explainaboard; removing potential obstacles to the success of the new features.
Divergence Convergence

After conducting user interviews, we identified that target users would need a reporting feature to communicate key metrics of their natural language processing (NLP) models.
Reducing errors and drop-offs during onboarding through prototyping and usability testing.
Testing industry-specific language, visualization, usefulness of data through usability studies.
Reducing time, effo t and confusion fo develope s w en
c eating p ojects, adding natu al language p ocessing (NLP) models fo analysis, and viewing das boa ds.
