Letter from the President

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

2011 was the first year of a “new Era” in our Foundation. Perhaps the most important moment since 1992 when we were sponsored by Diocesan Caritas of Barcelona in order to help people find jobs. Although this year has again been very negative in the issue that concerns us most -the growth of unemployment figures- we have kept on, as far as

4

we can, to develop more efficient tools to deal with this drama that threats an already unstable society. On March 17 we opened our new premises organizing a “day of reflection” with other social institutions, especially insertion organizations, to discuss the problems of the industry. The first meeting was attended by Professor Anton Costas and the philosopher and journalist Josep Ramoneda. In the second one we had the participation of MR. Jordi Rogla, Director of Diocesan Caritas of Barcelona; Mrs. Esther Planas, Deputy Director of the “la Caixa” Foundation; MR. Josep Santacreu, businessman; MR. Silverio Agea, Director of the Spanish Association of Foundations and MR. Xavier Lopez, Director General of Social and Cooperative Economy of the Catalan Autonomous Government. Following this conference, we proceeded to the official opening of the new premises with the assistance of the President of the Catalan Autonomous Government, MR. Artur Mas; the Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona, The Most Reverend Lluis Martinez Sistach, and the Mayor of Sant Adrià de Besòs, MR. Jesús-María Canga. This new Era I referred to begins with a new director, MR. Albert Alberich, who until December 2010 was Vice President of the Board of Patrons and from January 1st 2011 replaces MR. Timoteu Ramirez, who developed his job exemplary and in a selfless manner since 2000 and has become a new member of the Board of Patrons. Regarding the 2011 data, you will find extensive information in this Annual Report, but we would mostly want to highlight the inclusion of 144 people in ordinary companies. This should be our bit to combat dramas people often hide among the cold figures of unemployment.

2012 announces new challenges: the opening of our Delegation in Tarragona; the insertion; the enhancing of Díns Garraf’s activities; the opening of our Escuela de Hostelería Básica with the collaboration of Grupo Áreas, among others. With these my final words I would like to thank all the staff structure and, in especially to our non-stop-growing team of volunteers -more than sixty-five so far- who with their experience, knowledge and involvement contribute to the growth and especially social work of FiT.

SOCIAL GIVING PROGRAM

OBJECTIVE: Give a good service to users through personalized attention in the shop and the capacity to supply the requested demands. Meeting the needs of families served in the shortest time possible is our ideal, and improve this is our challenge. Despite the current crisis and the budgetary constraints of the Administration, the Foundation has been able to continue serving and supplying clothing and furniture for low/no income families. 2011 CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES:

• Slight decrease in contributions from deriving entities. • Decrease in the volume of users derived from Social Services, but bigger giving volume per receivers.

• More local families. • Change in the type of furniture requested: increased demand for specific furniture (240 mattresses and over 250 wardrobes, for those who share apartments) instead of the usual demand to furnish entire homes.
