FORM acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Western Australia both past and present, whose enduring connection to this Country and ongoing contributions to our collective culture and communities we respect and honour. We appreciate and are deeply grateful for the privilege of working on these lands.

Where We Come From: The artists of Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Country
Roebourne Art Development Program
Since colonial settlement, the west Pilbara town of Roebourne has had a long and controversial history. The Traditional Owners, the Ngarluma people, call it Ieramagadu. Today, it is a melting pot of language groups and several art centres in and around the town nurture significant numbers of the Pilbara’s most innovative artists.
In 2020, Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi artists invited FORM to help support and develop their professional skills and profile. As well as facilitating practices in canvas, glass, printmaking, photography and ceramics, FORM’s Roebourne Art Development Program has also helped the art centres of the west Pilbara strengthen their business, curatorial and administrative models. In the past year, many independent artists have joined the program.
The artworks in Where We Come From show the richness of artistic expression emerging from this region, and reveal layers of lived experience, memory, and history. The stories shared are as varied as they are personal, yet they resonate with us all: identity, struggle, joy, resilience, and belonging. Stay tuned for more details on public programming.
Sales open online on Saturday, 31 May 2025.

The Spirit of Esperance Kepa Kurl
A Southern Exposure exhibition
The coastal town of Esperance/Kepa Kurl on Wudjari Country is the focus for the latest in FORM’s Southern Exposure exhibition series, showcasing the people and creativity of the State’s southern regions. Kepa Kurl (pronounced 'Kep-pa Kurl') is the Wudjari name for Esperance meaning 'where the waters lie like boomerangs' referring to the shape of the two bays neighbouring the townsite. For the past year, FORM has been working with the community on a prospective Esperance Sculpture Trail project.
The Spirit of Esperance Kepa Kurl shares pieces inspired by the character and spirit of the town and its beautiful surroundings. Multidisciplinary artist Stuart McMillan (who relocated from Margaret River/Wardandi Country for a three-week residency) presents work alongside pieces by established local artists, and a vibrant collaborative centrepiece by the Esperance community.

FORM's Work
FORM’s projects and programs take place all over Western Australia, from the Pilbara to the Great Southern. We run creative learning programs in schools; take children’s authors and illustrators out on the road to remote communities; create large-scale arts experiences to attract visitors and enhance local economies; and we also run a fee-for-service consultancy offering planning and management for major public art projects and cultural strategy.
Here are few more details about this work:
"The kids who are not normally accessing the curriculum, thrive. They are immersing themselves in this and that is so nice to see."

FORM CREATIVE LEARNING Creative Schools
FORM’s Creative Learning programming runs year-round in schools and in communities. They are designed to empower young people to develop their creativity, sense of agency and wellbeing through programs that foster curiosity, a love of learning and young people’s ability to make sense of the world around and within them.
Creative Schools is our innovative evidence-backed creative learning program. To date, the program has reached nearly five and a half thousand students, in 209 Western Australian classrooms, over 10% of schools in the state.
It uses creative teaching and learning strategies to cultivate young people’s agency and engagement in learning across the Western Australian
curriculum. It helps young people develop the Five Creative Habits of Learning: being imaginative, inquisitive, collaborative, persistent and self-disciplined.
In 2025 FORM is working with the Association of Independent Schools WA (AISWA) to deliver professional learning experiences for teachers in the independent school system. By equipping more teachers with creative learning strategies, FORM is transforming the way more students engage in their education across the State.

FORM CREATIVE LEARNING
Scribblers
Scribblers is a celebration of storytelling in all its forms for children and young people.
We bring families together with storytellers from all over the world – graphic novelists, authors, oral storytellers, illustrators, cartoonists and more – to ignite curiosity and a love of learning in children and young people, helping them make sense of the world around and within them. In April we took Scribblers on the Road to the Goldfields for the first time, and we'll be heading back to the Pilbara later this year.

Spinifex Hill Studio
Spinifex Hill Studio
Spinifex Hill Studio stands on Kariyarra Country (South Hedland) in the Pilbara. It's the only art centre in the Hedland area supporting the practices of established and emerging First Nations artists. It’s unique in Australia as an urban-based centre welcoming people from numerous language groups and supporting an eclectic range of art practices which reflect the diversity of First Nations experience.
The Studio and its gallery (plus online shop) are where people can buy work, connect with artists, and support the preservation and sharing of Aboriginal culture, heritage, and identity.
Two more exhibitions will be presented throughout the year, along with our annual Christmas Sale.

FORM CULTURAL TOURISM
Roebourne Art Development Program
Since June 2020, FORM’s Roebourne Art Development Program has offered artistic development opportunities specifically designed to cultivate and broaden skills and competencies for artists and staff at Aboriginal art centres in the Roebourne area, including Yinjaa-Barni Art, Juluwarlu Art Group, and Cheeditha Art Group.
In 2025, thanks to increased funding from Woodside, FORM extended the program’s artistic mentoring and business skills training to include local independent artists.
The program helps artists develop skills that increase the opportunities for them to share their culture, further their careers and generate an income through art.
Mentorships and training respond to the artists’ stated needs and contexts, so that each group and individual accesses the support best suited to them.
Artists from this part of the Pilbara are receiving well deserved and increasing acclaim. FORM hopes that the program will continue to play its part in contributing to the sustainability and longevity of each centre and artist business and subsequently, the broader Pilbara Aboriginal art sector.
