Forbes Asia’s Best Under A Billion Award Ceremony and Dinner Seventy-six companies were honored at this year’s Forbes Asia Best Under A Billion Award Ceremony and Dinner held in Hong Kong. Some 220 guests attended the award ceremony and dinner in honor of the best small to midsized companies in AsiaPacific that made it to this year’s list. Dr. Lee Shau Kee, Chairman of Henderson Land Development Group, was the special guest for the evening and he shared his thoughts on success and entrepreneurship with the audience. This year’s Best Under A Billion list draws from over 15,000 publicly listed Asia-Pacific companies, each with an annual revenue of between $5 million and $1 billion. The top 200 companies were identified by Forbes editors based on their profitability, growth and future prospects. The full list of all 200 companies was published in the September 2011 issue of Forbes Asia.

In Dr. Lee Shau Kee’s remarks, he talked about the secrets to his success. He said the keys were hard work and perseverance, the ability to create more wealth from one’s ‘first barrel of gold’, and not committing too early to marriage before establishing a successful career. In addition, Dr. Lee explained the goal behind his philanthropy: “I will seek to make the maximum return on the minimum amount of donations and make sure that my charity donations will benefit as many people as possible.”

This year, four companies were presented with the Best Under A Billion Special Awards. Sri Lanka’s Renuka Holdings was recognized as the “Fastest Growing”, Philippines’ Philweb Corporation was named “Most Profitable” company, Hong Kong’s Midland IC&I was presented with “Best Return On Investment – Long Term” award while India’s Opto Circuits took home the “Best Comeback Performance” award. “The Fastest Growing”
