Welcome to the Foras Family Welcome to Foras, we are delighted that you are here! Everything in this brochure is the culmination of a story, the story of how an idea became a beautiful business and partnership between our directors – Norfolk Farmer John Wootton and his partner, Claire Brutnall who teamed up to form an exciting new venture in natural stone. A vision for design sprang from their dynamic and creative minds and over a decade later, Foras has become an award-winning business that presents customers with an exclusive range of garden accessories and hand selected tiling and paving. Foras has grown, no longer just a business, it has become a family and a way of life. A commitment to always seeking the best.

Why Visit Foras We are lucky to have our location in Norfolk...

The beautiful fenland countryside stretches as far as the eye can see. Our Stowbridge showroom is the largest display of water features anywhere in the UK with over 10000 sqm of stunning and beautiful displays. It is all in the details, the selection of stone, testing everything ourselves, developing planters that will protect plants and weather well in our British climate. Foras was borne of a desire to do better, better than anyone else.

Why buy Foras?

We are not your average retailer, buying unknown products from wholesale. We personally source our products directly from the manufacturers, import them and thoroughly quality check them ourselves.

Everything sold by Foras has been designed by Foras. We have been creating and innovating for over 16 years and are confident that we have the best collection of Home & Garden stoneware and accessories available.

We keep a large amount of our products in stock in our own warehouse and can deliver quickly. We take great pride in offering knowledgeable, personal service and support. Our rate of returning custom stands testament to our exceptional customer service.

Our products are available to view, to touch and to select. We do not use stock photographs or renders, everything you see is real and authentic.

Our extensive show garden is ‘better by design’, with a full range of running water features and planted areas, giving you garden inspiration and the opportunity to visualise our pieces in a garden setting.

BLISS RAINBOW Our standout water feature in the Foras range, the Bliss Rainbow Sandstone Sphere is the perfect addition to any garden. With elegantly cascading water highlighting the strata of the rainbow sandstone, a peaceful effect is created by the infinity pool in the top of each bowl. Every water feature has unique markings, making yours truly one of a kind. You can also personalise the flow of the water by adjusting the positioning of the pipe inside the feature. The water can be completely smooth or with a slight rotating vortex.

B L I S S R A I N B O W M AT R I X One of Foras’ most stunning water features as exhibited in our gold award winning garden at the Chelsea Flower Show; the Bliss Matrix water feature is suspended on a marine grade stainless steel axis with water cascading over the stone and flowing down the stand. BELMONT RAINBOW One of our most popular products, the Belmont rainbow sandstone sphere is a truly versatile water feature with an extensive range of size options. There is a Belmont for every size of garden. The sphere is made entirely from solid rainbow sandstone, sourced by Foras and honed in our factories. The hole through the centre allows for water to flow over the ball emphasising the rich orange, plum and violet tones of the stone. It has a perfectly machined recess to house our LED light fitting, ensuring a flush fit.

No two of our Belmont water features are the same, each has its’ own graining and defining features making yours truly unique.

B E L M O N T L AY E R E D S L AT E Our Belmont Layered Slate water features are completely handmade. As slate cannot be mined in blocks each layer has to be manually bonded together to create the spherical shape. These layers give a more enhanced movement of water; the water flows over the natural ridges in the slate highlighting the different hues and colours. Each ball is completely unique and has its own tactile beauty. Our individual layered slate balls are available in an extensive range of sizes, including the exclusive and incredible 100cm ball. Slate as a material is millions of years old and will continue to stand firm for eternity.

Slate is an ancient material and is created from clay or volcanic ash which has been compressed over millennia, each slate is unique in colouring to the area from which it is mined. The magnificent layered slate trio is a monument to nature. Hand carved and hand selected, piece by piece, it is made to last for eternity. FUSION This is the perfect solution if you want a simple installation that you can do yourself. No need to call in the landscapers with lifting equipment for the Fusion; the heaviest part is the decorative pebbles!

An optically clear acrylic sphere is presented on top of a circular Italian porcelain plinth and height is added with a stainless-steel column. PURE BOWLS The Pure Bowls are a substantial size at 75cm dia and have a good depth to them, more akin to a pond than a simple water feature. You can create a great effect by either filling them with co-ordinating pebbles or adding a light to the water to give more of a glow at night. The rainbow bowl is carved from a solid block of sandstone and displays the incredible colouring within the striations of the material. Our layered slate version is constructed in the same way as our spherical Belmont range, except formed into an open basin shape. You can see the artisan carved layers that go into making the bowl and the movement over them as the water cascades down is very tactile. A new variant for 2021, the Pure Pewter is created from a block of pewter sandstone. This stone is full of quartz sparkle, with black and grey striations. Modern and imposing.

Hewn from a single piece our Sea Salt feature creates a serene showpiece in any modern and contemporary garden. Standing tall and elegant our Sturgeon water feature is an interpretation of the fish. The carved, curved recesses represent the scales leading up to the water pouring from the mouth.

A modernist version of the marine sculptures of antiquity, hand carved from slate. The slate has a certain iridescence, with the movement of the water bringing out all the colours of the slate and enhancing the texture of the feature.

TULIP With curved stone petals and finished in our warming and colourful rainbow sandstone, the Tulip water feature is an everlasting floral display. A beautiful centrepiece feature for your landscape with a tactile nature and an awe-inspiring presence. There are two effective options possible with this feature, either the light pool where the water is lit via LED and the water simply glides down the side of the petals in a sedate fashion or the fountain attachment which jets upwards and soaks all the petals to give the maximum enhancement of the grain.

TWIST

TWIST RAINBOW WATER FEATURE

The Twist water feature has an elegant presence in any size garden. Expertly carved from a single block of the highest grade of natural sandstone, the feature comes in two parts but requires no fixing as the squared off base of the bowl perfectly aligns with the pedestal. The Twist showcases a mixture of curves and sharp lines, flowing contours, and modern sculpture. The water entirely fills the bowl and flows over the edge coating the whole of the stone and deepening the colour.

The base is an open triangle made from polished dove grey sandstone with precise etched lines on the outside to emphasise the pure geometry of the shape. It demonstrates a neo-futuristic style that embodies the evolution of urban architecture. It is finished by placing the fine and aesthetic shape of either our shark, rainbow, or pewter sandstone flight bowls on top. The bowl nestles in its own resting cup which gives the illusion that the bowl is balancing. Very different, very quirky, very Foras!

Carved from a single block of sandstone, the natural mineralisation of the creates different hues and striations which are enhanced when the bowl is filled with water. With a depth of 9cm the bowl is a lovely spot for the birds to take a sip and standing at 65cm it is easily viewed from all angles. The Twist birdbath comes in two parts that are simply placed together with no fixing required.

S TA N D I N G T H E TEST OF TIME

Slate is an incredible material, a fine-grained metamorphic rock composed of clay and volcanic ash. The compression over thousands of years causes it to bind together into a soft yet weighty stone which displays incredible depth and variation of colour. Our gallery range has been developed to make the most of this amazing natural creation, some items have been honed to bring out the grain and are smooth to the touch, other have been left rugged showing the layers and textures to full effect.

Find out what make us special:

Each gallery piece is carved by hand from solid slate.

Always unique, each will display different colouring, from striking copper to delicate silver, with tones of plum, green and charcoal. There are many slate-effect products on the market however only natural stone will be truly iridescent.

The larger pieces are supplied with a matching slate foot which gives them support and enables them to stand on any even surface.

Larger gallery sculptures also work in combination with our extensive range of plinths, go for an entirely slate garden sculpture or mix and match materials by contrasting with oak or sandstone.

The smaller gallery vases are ideal for bringing the outside in, adding texture and dimension to your windowsill or mantelpiece.

Vases and sculptures are watertight for cut flowers, they can be drilled for drainage by request when placed externally.

Your message can be inscribed on to our exclusive rainbow sandstone spheres in a variety of fonts and styles, starting at £5.00 per letter. Expertly carved from a single block of natural, high-grade sandstone, each water feature exhibits individual patterns and graining. The added dimension of water beautifully enhances the natural mineralisation hues of lavender, plum, orange, pearl and brown. The central 25mm hole creates a bubble pool effect for the water to evenly coat the complete surface of the ball and also houses the optional light.

GARDEN TORCHES Designed with elegance in mind. The stunning Gemma and Capella garden torches add a natural flame to your garden or to a special occasion. Each exclusive design is available in either modern metallic black or in copper.

The easy to clean black powder coated metal pole breaks down into two halves for easy storage and the oil reservoir is easily removed to make filling a breeze.

The torches will burn for a minimum of nine hours, with no refuelling or interruptions to your evening. To stand, simply slot the stainless steel spike onto the bottom of your pole and insert into your lawn, or purchase your torch with an additional free-standing base so that the torch can be displayed either way.

Our candles are lovingly created by artisan candle makers based in the UK and the scents picked by hand by the team here at Foras. FINISHING AND SUPPORTING STONES Another new addition to the Foras range, our finishing and supporting stones are cut from the finest Italian porcelain. Designed to be used in conjunction with our square plinths, the larger tile can be used as a decorative base or placed on soft ground to keep the plinth upright. It will also prevent water from soaking up into the wood when used with an Oak plinth. The smaller stone will fit on the top of the plinth to add decoration and to prevent moisture once again from soaking downward when used with the Oak. These stones are available in Anthracite Ink or Oatmeal Sand.

PEBBLES Our decorative pebbles are the perfect addition to your garden. Ideal dressing around water features, borders, and planting, they are tumbled to give them a smooth finish. The rainbow and shark are made from the same sandstone as many of our features. We also have the black river pebbles which are flatter in shape, they are very dark grey when dry and black when wet. For those that would like a larger pebble our white quartzite has a light sparkle, a smaller alternative is the grey granite which are subtle and speckled.

Finally, new for 2021, we have our Kerala pebbles, a mix of colours and shapes which will work in any setting and with any colours.

Building a business from the ground up is hard work...

...and for many people it is the pinnacle of their personal achievement, truly a labour of love. 2020 was the year nobody expected, but businesses fought past every setback, adapting and adjusting to keep forging ahead. It became clear that to succeed in this new reality we would all have to stick together. So Foras decided to start collaborating with other Norfolk brands to offer mutual support.

We reached out to Bullards gin; a company close to the heart as the Bullard family were one of our very first customers back in 2007. Since then, the Bullards themselves have gone on to reclaim their historic family business, which dates back to 1837.

They have focused on producing the finest gin, which is handcrafted locally in Norwich, Norfolk and is available in four delicious artisan varieties. The gin comes in beautiful bottles, their shape inspired by the iconic Bullards chimney that stood proudly over Norwich for more than 100 years. A Bullards bottle is for life, as the innovative company offers refill pouches to minimise their impact to the environment.

One of the first companies to support us at the beginning of our journey was a small marketing firm, owned and run by a couple named Steph and Matt, indeed without them there would be no ‘Foras’ at all as they helped to create the name! Over time their journey has taken them from marketing to distilling their own spirits and in 2010 the Wild Knight Distillery was born. With a collection of both vodka and gin, as well as vodka liqueurs, Wild Knight encompasses the true essence of ‘Norfolk Spirit.’ Their range of ‘Boadicea Gin’ is a fitting tribute to Queen Boadicea, the ruler of the ancient Iceni tribe of East Anglia. The gorgeous Boadicea bottles are brightly coloured and are decorated with pewter triple spirals, powerful symbols of the tribe.

We also created Foras Forge to further our aim to supply ironmongery which will enhance our offering for the home and garden. Created by hand in Norfolk by a local artisan, our plant supports are available in a variety of designs and heights. From very modern, simple styles to more ornate and elaborate creations befitting the grandest manor. There will also be the option to create your very own personalised plant stakes! This range will expand further with the addition of hooks which can be paired with our collection of hanging baskets and bird feeders.
