Founded in 1926, Foothill Family Service provides a broad range of community-based mental health and social services to at-risk children and families in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Glendale, and Burbank.

Dear Friends, At Foothill Family, we believe that strong families are the foundation of thriving communities and are the basis of any child’s promise for a bright future. Whether it is teaching and coaching parents in guiding their children’s behavior and school readiness, helping children enter their classrooms ready and eager to learn, or supporting victims of abuse in regrouping and restarting their lives, the goal is the same – helping parents and children thrive, together.

Foothill’s dedicated staff did an outstanding job providing services to the region’s most vulnerable children and their families in 2013-2014, serving more than 22,000 individuals with the high-quality, personalized, and dignified approach that has long been our hallmark.

The commitment of our Board of Directors and volunteer guild, the Friends of Foothill Family, added greatly to our staff ’s efforts and provided the community leadership that is so essential to our success and future growth. This annual report provides an overview of our performance and achievements during the last fiscal year (July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014).

Equally important, it serves as grateful acknowledgement of the growing community of supporters who help make our services possible.

The End of an Era:

chief of clinical services pat avery retires In 2013, Pat Avery announced that she would retire as Chief of Clinical Services effective August, 2014, concluding 35 years of leadership and service. She was succeeded by Tami Mitsumori-Miller, who joined Foothill Family in 2004 and has served as associate chief of clinical services since 2012.

During her tenure — 20 years as head of clinical services — Pat was critical to the exponential growth of Foothill Family, expanding from a small organization with a budget of $600,000 to one of more than $20 million. When she joined the agency in 1979, Foothill Family’s programs included counseling, case management, and child abuse treatment and prevention. Pat supported and led Foothill Family’s expanded role in preventive care and intervention through establishment of programs in school-based mental health and domestic violence treatment; services for families, youths, and young children; early childhood development and education programs, and more.

Of her remarkable tenure at Foothill Family, Pat described her work as providing, “...the chance to grow, experience, and accomplish professionally and, in many ways, personally, everything I could have hoped for — all in one organization!
