Emergency Medical Technician Program Profile
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program is designed to prepare you for employment with an ambulance company, fire department, hospital emergency room, or other work setting that provides immediate emergency care. Upon successful completion of the six- to nine-month program, you will earn a course completion verification certificate and will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT Examination.
Prerequisites & Admission
The following prerequisite course is required before you will be permitted to enroll in the program: • Completion of Foothill’s HLTH 55: Emergency Medical Response course with a grade of B or better, or completion of the American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response class, or equivalent first-responder course as determined by the EMT Program instructor. Upon completion of the prerequisite, you may register after submitting the college’s online Application for Admission at www.foothill.edu and creating a MyPortal.fhda.edu account. There is no fee to apply.

Career Opportunities
EMT opportunities are available with ambulance companies, fire departments, emergency rooms, ski patrols, search and rescue units, and other organizations that provide immediate emergency care.
