Our mission is to transform the lives of public high school students across New York City and empower each of them to expand their industry experience and network, paving the way to social and economic mobility.
Dear FEF Community,
I am endlessly inspired by the growth I see in our students their resilience, eagerness to learn, and capacity to lead FEF’s mission has always been to be more than a stepping stone: it's a catalyst for their personal and professional development. This year, we’ve taken significant strides in refining our programming to build upon one another, beginning with exposure to the vast layers of hospitality through industry professional introductions and demos to workforce development training and culminating with internship placements in the hospitality industry
One of our key focuses is to ensure these programs are not just pathways to jobs but avenues for developing critical life skills Our students learn communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and empathy invaluable skills within and beyond the hospitality sector The integration of these transferable skills into our core ensures that we are not just preparing students for employment but are empowering them to be well-rounded and thoughtful individuals able to thrive in any environment
This year, we saw firsthand the impact of our approach. Our students have secured transformative internships and grown as individuals, showing remarkable resilience and adaptability
The support of our community sponsors, funders, industry leaders, school partners, volunteers, boards, and parents has been pivotal in these achievements Your belief in our mission fuels our efforts and enables us to reach higher and push further.
As we move into another year of progress, I invite each of you to continue this journey with us With your support, we can expand our reach, enhance our programs, and provide even more opportunities for our students The path ahead is full of potential, and with our combined efforts, I am confident that we will continue to make a significant difference in the lives of our students.
Sincerely,
Dr Danielle Beam

Food Education Fund (FEF) is a 501(c)(3) career-development nonprofit transforming the lives of public high school students across all five boroughs of New York City. FEF prepares students for their future, equipping them with workforce development through innovative programs and hands-on learning experiences
In 2023-2024, FEF provided programming to 834 NYC public high school students, offering them experience and exposure to diverse career paths and the resources to develop core life skills communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and empathy that are invaluable within and beyond the hospitality sector
With hospitality at our core, our programs have empowered students to develop as individuals and pursue impactful, fulfilling careers that pave the way to financial independence and upward mobility
“Dine Out: A Night of Networking,” introduces our students to the vast opportunities available in hospitality. This program provides students with their first elevated dining experience while networking with hospitality industry leaders.
Before dining out, students participate in professionalism, networking, personal branding, and dining etiquette workshops.
Representing a range of careers in hospitality, chaperones join students, guiding them through their meals and providing an instrumental networking opportunity. During the dining experience, students discover new dishes, witness excellence in the front-of-house service, take part in kitchen tours, and network with their chaperone and the industry experts on site.
