o p e n r o a d s , a n d q u i e t neighborhoods. But those days are gradually becoming memories, as we now witness a new Goa emerging—dynamic, fast-paced, and growing at a rate we could have scarcely imagined a decade ago. From the coastal belt to the hinterlands, Goa’s society is evolving multifold, not just in numbers, but in aspiration, ambition, and lifestyle. With this rapid transformation, however, comes a serious challenge infrastructure. Even the most robust systems are beginning to feel the strain

o f t h e s t a t e ’ s g r o w i n g population and the staggering increase in the number of vehicles hitting the roads each day Our once free-flowing streets are now choked with traffic, and parking has become a luxury in many areas. And yet, this is not a sign of d e c l i n e i t i s a s i g n o f evolution.

The state government, sensing the shifting pulse of Goa, is making visible efforts to keep up with the pace. Flyovers, h i g h w a y s , b r i d g e s , a n d bypasses are springing up

a c r o s s t h e s t a t e , s o m e reshaping long-familiar landscapes, others carving out entirely new ones. There’s no d o u b t t h a t t h e s e developments are a step in the right direction, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity, but they also mark the beginning of a structural

transformation that will redefine Goa’s future. And that brings us to the mega projects—the game changers. Real estate giants from across the country are now planting their flags in Goa’s soil, bringing with them concepts and constructions that rival international benchmarks From integrated townships to luxury resorts and villas, we are n o w s e e i n g t h e r i s e o f developments that include artificial beaches yes, you read that right—on par with those in Dubai. What was once unimaginable is now taking shape in our own backyard. This blend of tradition and ambition is what makes Goa such a fascinating place today. It is no longer just a tourist destination; it is fast becoming a lifestyle hub, a real estate magnet, a cultural melting pot.

But as Goa grows, so must our s e n s e o f r e s p o n s i b i l i t y t o w a r d s sustainability, community, and culture. Growth is inevitable, but let it be meaningful, inclusive, and mindful At Incredible Goa, we remain committed to showcasing this transformation, highlighting the stories, people, and progress that make Goa truly i n c r e d i b l e H e r e ’ s t o embracing change while holding on to what makes us uniquely Goan. external agency, the program will offer both online and offline classes, ensuring accessibility for students from various colleges and backgrounds. By creating a platform for serious UPSC preparation, Goa University is not only offering a course but b u i l d i n g a p i p e l i n e o f empowered, confident youth ready to represent Goa on the national stage This initiative marks a crucial step toward reshaping the future of higher education and career readiness in the state.

Santosh Kenkre is a distinguished name in Goa’s business and social circles, and he is known for the many roles he has played throughout his remarkable career. From serving as a chairman at Goa’s economic powerhouse, the EDC, to being a chairman in the Chief Minister’s Rojgar Yojana (CMRY) during the tenure of Shri Manohar Parrikar, his journey is one of perseverance, vision, and success.

SANTOSH KENKRE

The Chartered Accountant Who Built a Legacy of Wisdom and Integrity

Coming from a humble background, Mr. Kenkre embraced responsibility early on as the eldest son in his family. With determination and sharp financial acumen, he carved his path in the industry, establishing a formidable presence in Goa’s finance sector. Today, he stands among the state’s most influential personalities, a testament to his relentless drive and unwavering commitment to excellence. This story delves into his inspiring rise—from modest beginnings to becoming a name that commands respect in Goa’s elite circles. I am always in search of inspiring stories narratives that hold meaning and depth, stories that not only leave a mark on our readers but also contribute something valuable to society When I come across someone whose journey embodies resilience and success, I instinctively know they belong on our magazine’s cover In this issue, I am honored to bring the story of Shri Santosh Kenkre, a distinguished Chartered Accountant and a well-recognized figure in Goa’s financial and social landscape. When I asked Mr. Kenkre about his early years and the challenges he faced, he reflected on his roots with a deep sense of pride. Though his Karma Bhumi today is the bustling capital city of Goa, Panaji, his origins trace back to the serene village of Cuncolim in South Goa. “Although I was born in Panaji, my roots belong to Cuncolim. Out of my 64 years, I have only spent eight in Cuncolim and the rest in Panaji, which is why I consider myself a true Panajikar,” he shared with pride. He gives a lot of credit to his wife Mrs Shweta for whatever success he has achieved. “She took VRS & gave up her banking career 23 years before regular

retirement, to support him and they take care of young children.”

Despite his strong ties to Panaji, Mr Kenkre ensures he visits his native place in Cuncolim during the Ganesh festival, staying connected to his ancestral traditions. “Mangesh is our family deity,” he added, reminiscing about his family’s move to the capital when his father was transferred there. However, life took an unexpected turn when tragedy struck early—his father passed away when he was just eight years old. As the eldest in the family, he felt the weight of responsibility even at that

tender age. “It shaped me,” he admitted. “I knew I had to mould myself in a way that would ensure a secure future—not just for me, but for my family.”

And so began the extraordinary journey of Santosh Kenkre—one that would take him from a young boy shouldering responsibilities beyond his years to becoming one of Goa’s most respected financial minds.

With no safety net and no choice but to succeed, Santosh Kenkre embarked on a journey into the unknown, driven by sheer determination, hard work, and an unwavering

belief in himself. He knew that despite the hardships and uncertainties, persistence and honesty would be his guiding principles to rise above poverty and adversity.

"It was a daunting challenge—losing the head of the family, the sole breadwinner, left us with many questions about our future. But I saw it as an opportunity to prove myself," he shared. "When everything in life comes easy, you tend to put in less effort. But in my case, my father's absence instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and purpose It sharpened my vision and made me see the world more clearly."

Determined to carve out a better future, Mr. Kenkre pursued his education at People’s High School before moving on to Dempo College of Commerce for his graduation. He then completed his Chartered Accountancy in Panaji itself, setting the foundation for what would become a highly successful career. "After completing my CA, I landed a

job in a company where I worked for a year. But I always had a bigger vision. I wanted to create something of my own, and that’s when I decided to start my own CA firm," he recalled.

However, venturing out independently was no easy feat With no financial backing, he began his practice in a small office space provided by his uncle. "The initial five years were all about hard work and perseverance," he said. "But eventually, I managed to save enough to buy my first small office in Panaji." With strategic financial planning, he later sold that space and reinvested in a larger one, which today stands as his permanent office at Patto, the heart of Goa’s business district.

"The real magic lies in savings and the power of compounding," he stated with conviction. "I have always believed in disciplined saving and investing, ensuring that my money works for me over time."

Beyond financial prudence, Mr Kenkre attributes his success—both personal and professional—to his unwavering faith in Shri Mahalaxmi, the presiding deity of Panaji. "I have always had a deep connection with Shri Mahalaxmi. Even today, whenever I pass by the temple, I make it a point to stop and spend some time there," he shared.

His faith, coupled with smart financial decisions, has ensured that he has never faced a cash crunch in his life. "Whatever I have wished for, I have received," he said with gratitude.

Mr. Kenkre’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, financial discipline, and unwavering faith. From a young boy carrying the weight of responsibility on his shoulders to becoming a leading name in Goa’s financial sector, his story is an inspiring blueprint for success.

When I asked Mr. Santosh Kenkre how he navigated the fierce competition and challenges during the early days of his practice, he responded with clarity and conviction. "It all comes down to passion, persistence, and quality," he said. "You have to be passionate about what you do, maintain the highest standards of quality, and let persistence carry you through even the toughest situations."

According to him, there is no substitute for reliability and trustworthiness in the field of Chartered Accountancy "A CA plays an integral role in every business, big or small, and trust is the foundation of that relationship. If you are not reliable, you will never earn the confidence of your clients, and without that, success is impossible," he stated firmly.

Recalling a valuable lesson he once received from a colleague, he shared, "I was told that if you entertain good clients, more good clients will come to you. But if you start dealing with bad clients, they will bring more of the same by reference." This principle guided him throughout his career, reinforcing his belief in the power of professional integrity. Beyond technical expertise, he emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong relationships. "Good public relations is key. You never know who will be helpful to you at any point in life. My philosophy is to keep my list of enemies at zero and focus on building goodwill wherever possible."

While Mr Kenkre is best known for his contributions to the financial sector, his journey also led him into the political arena, where he worked closely with the late Shri Manohar Parrikar. His political associations spanned all three major parties in Goa starting with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), then Congress, and eventually BJP during Parrikar’s leadership. “

"I left active politics after the demise of Parrikar ji," he revealed His political engagement began with MGP during the tenure of Panaji MLA Baban Naik, later shifting to Congress, where he worked with Panaji MLA J.B. Gonsalves. However, it was in 1994 that he first met Manohar Parrikar, who had just been elected as the MLA of Panaji. "From that moment, I remained closely associated with him for 25 years, until his passing away in 2019. It was Parrikar ji who appointed me as a director at EDC, and I consider those years as a period of immense learning and growth."

Beyond being a renowned Chartered Accountant and a well-connected figure in Goa’s political and business landscape, Santosh Kenkre is also deeply passionate about sharing knowledge, particularly within the business community. His extensive career, spanning over four decades, has given him invaluable insights into the workings of both local and national enterprises.

When I asked him about his journey in knowledge-sharing, he explained, "With over 40 years of practice, I have worked with major business houses, both in Goa and across the

country My clientele included giants like TCS and the Adani Group, w h i c h g a v e m e exposure to their work culture and strategic d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g Additionally, my tenure at Goa’s financial hub, EDC, where I served in key positions such as Chairman and ViceChairman for over a decade, allowed me to interact with hundreds of entrepreneurs. Later, as Chairman of CMRY f o r s e v e n y e a r s , I worked closely with budding businesses, learning first-hand the reasons behind both success and failure."

For Mr. Kenkre, learning has always been a continuous process. He is an avid reader, having devoured more than a hundred books on business subjects, including biographies of the world's top business leaders "I have a habit of taking notes whenever I read something insightful, which has helped me accumulate a wealth of knowledge Eventually, I asked myself—what next? How do I put this knowledge to use? That’s when I decided to share it with the business community through talks and sessions," he said.

Determined to make an impact, he invested 25,000 from his own pocket to organize his first knowledge-sharing session at the Goa Science Centre The topic "Six Novel Strategies to Increase Your Profits & Turnover"—was chosen carefully to resonate with business owners. "It was a free session, and because the subject was crucial for any entrepreneur, we had an overwhelming response with around 125 attendees," he recalled.

Encouraged by the success of his first talk, Mr. Kenkre’s initiative quickly gained momentum. The Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized its second session, followed by a third session hosted by the Goa State Industries Association. Now, his fourth session is being organized by the Goa Management Association, cementing his role as a thought leader in Goa’s business community.

From finance and politics to mentorship and knowledge-sharing, Santosh Kenkre’s journey continues to inspire, proving that true success lies not just in personal achievements, but in empowering others to grow and thrive.

The core purpose of Mr. Santosh Kenkre’s journey in knowledge-sharing is simple—he wants to give back to the business community of Goa. "I’m not looking to make money or gain business from anyone. At 64, I am well content with my life and my work," he said with sincerity His intent is purely to empower entrepreneurs with the wisdom he has gathered over four decades. "I don’t want people to assume that I have an agenda behind this. My practice keeps me busy, but I make it a point to carve out time to contribute to society by sharing my knowledge with the business community."

Taking this mission a step further, Mr. Kenkre now plans to launch his own YouTube channel. "I believe this platform will help me reach the right people—those who are genuinely looking for the right guidance," he said, confident that digital media will expand his impact beyond physical seminars.

Before concluding our conversation, he left me with a thought-provoking question. "Do you know the way to heaven?" he asked with a smile. Before I could respond, he continued, "Don’t bother to answer. The way to heaven is simple—just go straight and turn right. In other words, walk a straight path and always turn to what is right. Do the right thing."

For him, success is built on a foundation of passion, focus, and relentless hard work "There is no shortcut to success. You must keep learning because knowledge is power To stand out, you need a strong USP—a unique selling proposition that sets you apart. But above all, integrity is the backbone of both business and personality. Without it, success is hollow."

With these parting words, Mr. Santosh Kenkre once again proved why he is not just a successful CA, but also a mentor and a guiding force for Goa’s entrepreneurial landscape.

THE ACHARYA

Ambey Parwatkar's Unyielding Symphony of Cricket and Life

Ambey Arun Parwatkar’s life isn’t just a story; it’s a symphony, a c o m p l e x a n d b e a u t

f u l composition played across continents and through diverse roles. A Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, he chose the rhythm of cricket over the static of traditional careers. The roar of the crowd, the impossible catch, and the golden trophy of the 1983 World Cup weren’t just moments; they were the opening notes of his life’s grand performance.

"I was learning drums and tabla," Ambey recalls, "but when India won the World Cup, I was hooked." From playing underarm c r i c k e t i n h i s c o l o n y t o representing Goa at 13, his journey was a testament to raw t a l e n t a n d u n w a v e r i n g dedication. "My first official game, four wickets," he says, "even as a small guy, that’s how it started."

The Acharya's Crescendo: A L i f e o f M u l t i f a c e t e d Achievements

His life has been a series of crescendos, each role played with the same passion and precision. International cricketer, sports host of "Sports Dangal" on Prime TV, and Vice President of Panaji JCI –Ambey seamlessly transitioned between these diverse roles, each adding a new layer to his multifaceted career. His inclusion in the Top 200 Famous Personalities of Goa, post-independence, recognized his significant contributions to his homeland. "It was an incredible honor," he reflects. "To be listed

alongside legends and even family members, it’s a testament to the journey."

As Head of Development in Khelomore and Head Coach at VPCC Academy, Panaji, he shaped the future of cricket, imparting skills and life lessons. As a Selector for ISPL 1 and ISPL 2, and Mentor and Head Coach with MCC KNIGHTS Team MCL 9 & MCL 10, he guided teams with his profound understanding of the game.

His international accolades are equally impressive. Ranked No. 12 in MVP Ratings in the 50-plus Masters Cricket World Cup 2023, representing UAE, he proved that age is just a number. He’s also been a part of the India 50plus team (VCI) and recently represented the UAE 50-plus team again in the 50-plus World Cup in Sri Lanka in February 2025.

The Maestro's Awards: Recognition of Impact

Ambey’s impact wasn’t confined to the cricket field. He received the Chanakya Award 2018 from the then Goa Governor, Late Mridul Sinha, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Award 2020 from RSS Head Sir Subhash Velingkar, and the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Award 1998 from HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum. Each award was a recognition of his dedication to social causes and his extraordinary contributions. "I never worked for awards," Ambey insists, "but when they came, I felt a responsibility to help others get recognized."

His professional career in Dubai, spanning 30 years, where he worked as Operations Manager for ARCTIC LLC and General Manager for YOGI GROUP, taught him the value of discipline and time management, skills he brought to every aspect of his life.

The Mentor's Cadence: Shaping Future Legends

As a mentor, author, selector, cricket administrator, TV host, and international

GOA’S

match official, Ambey played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of cricketers. He’s a First-Class cricketer with four teams, having played in 21 countries. Known as "Acharya," he’s a sought-after motivational and personality development speaker, shares his wisdom and experience.

His YouTube channel, Ambey Oxides, serves as a platform for his insights and experiences. He also recently added to his list of roles, a scout selector for the Gujarat Titans, and previously, he was a Bowling Mentor with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He even had the unique experience of being a spearhead net bowler for the England and Australia Test teams during their training in Dubai. His influence extends beyond cricket, as he recently joined the managing committee of the Goa Pickleball Association.

The Philosopher's Echo: Lessons from the Field and the Marketplace

"In the realm of commerce, I once sought refuge in marketing, shunning the tempest of sales Yet, my mentor illuminated a truth: 'Embrace your strengths, for they are the conduits through which you truly resonate.' I understood my facility with administration and procurement, but marketing... that was a terrain I avoided. I learned that continuity is the lifeblood of progress. Even when met with a 'no,' one must return, years later, to inquire about the path not taken. Opportunities, like rivers, may divert but never cease to flow. In the marketplace, 'yes' and 'no' are ephemeral; only the unwavering pursuit of progress endures.

In the crucible of cricket, I learned the art of resilience and the sanctity of process. Thirty years past, my father imparted a timeless wisdom: 'Continue to sow, and the harvest will come.' Never surrender to the illusion of futility. It is the spirit of the warrior that defines the journey.

Life itself is a ceaseless voyage. I learned to release the anchors of control, to offer boundless opportunities, to cultivate strength through understanding, not through arbitrary decree. True power resides in the ability to tolerate, to comprehend, to grow stronger through the very act of giving space, rather than the illusion of control."

The Goan Dream's Finale: Inspiring a Legacy

Ambey's dream, his enduring aspiration, is to see a Goan play for India. He understands that it requires more than talent; it demands a shift in mindset, a willingness to take risks, and an unwavering belief in oneself.

The Supporters: The Pillars of His Symphony

Behind every great maestro is a group of unsung heroes. Ambey’s unwavering journey has been supported by many, among whom are some who stood by him through thick and thin Sandip Kereker, Gautam Kharangate, Aditya Angle, Mayur Sawkar, and Manoj Patil, along with his wife Veena, have been his main supporters Their belief in him and their continuous encouragement have provided the foundation on which his accomplishments have been built. Their dedication has been an integral part of Ambey’s success, shaping his path as a cricket legend, mentor, and philanthropist.

Ambey Arun Parwatkar's life is a symphony of resilience, dedication, and impact. He is a hopeless romantic for his wife, a devoted husband, and a mentor to countless young cricketers. From the cricket fields to the boardrooms, from the television screens to the hearts of young athletes, his melody resonates far beyond the boundary lines. He is, truly, an Acharya, a master of life’s grand composition.

SEOULA VAS

From the All-Girls' Convent to the Corridors of Law and Politics

In the vibrant and evolving sociopolitical landscape of Goa, few stories are as compelling and dynamic as that of Seoula Vas—a distinguished advocate, social worker, and rising political force. Her journey from a competitive all-girls school in South Goa, where she was a prefectCaptain of Red House to the courtroom and finally into the heart of grassroots politics is a narrative of grit, intellect, and fearless ambition.

Seoula’s early years were shaped by the rigorous environment of Presentation Convent High School An all-girls institution k n o w n f o r i t s a c a d e m i c competitiveness and discipline, it set the tone for what would be a l

o n a n d determination. “Presentation was the most competitive environment I've ever experienced—even more than the modern-day courtrooms in Goa or Mumbai,” she recalls.

B

d parents her mother, a retired government nurse, and her father, a dedicated engineer formerly with Zuari Industries—Seoula was exposed to the value of public service and intellectual curiosity from a young age. Though not from a family of lawyers, she was always driven by a deep interest in multiple disciplines. As a child, she dreamt of becoming a VJ, a

journalist, a forest ranger, and even a neurologist. “I’ve always been a science lover at heart,” she says with a smile. However, it was law that eventually called out to her an arena where she could stay connected to a multitude of subjects, remain intellectually stimulated, and make a tangible difference in society. "Law keeps you sharp. It allows you to explore everything from forensic science to criminal justice to taxation. It’s never just one thing."

After completing her early education in Goa, she enrolled at Mumbai University to pursue law Her decision to migrate from Goa University was not entirely academic. It was spurred by a conflict with a college principal—a decision she now views as both emotional and strategic. "I didn’t want my scores to suffer because of personal clashes. So I moved to Mumbai, where I had to work harder due to more subjects, but I received a richer legal education."

The transition wasn’t easy. With no prior

GOA’S

internships like her peers in Mumbai, she started from scratch. She interned while studying, often sacrificing exam leaves to gain valuable experience. “I was working when others were revising. I had no choice but to hustle.” She spent prudently, managing rent, food, and travel expenses on a modest stipend, never letting her financial situation dim her aspirations.

After her legal studies, Seoula could have easily continued her practice in Mumbai, but destiny had other plans. “I have practiced 8 years in Mumbai in criminal and commercial Litigation before COVID” The COVID-19 lockdown brought me back to Goa, and it was during this phase that the dormant ember of public life began to glow. A casual political discussion with my father, who was impressed by my analytical take on the constitutional implications of a news event, led him to ask me a simple yet life-altering question: “Would you contest an election?.”

After some legal research and reflection,

Seoula said yes What followed was a whirlwind of political immersion She contested the municipal elections with great fervor and enthusiasm. Though she did not win, she secured 25% of the vote—an impressive debut for a first-time, independent candidate. “Those were organic votes,” she emphasizes. “Earned through connection, not currency.” Despite systemic challenges stay orders, legal battles over notifications, and the constant pressure to spend beyond ethical limits—Seoula stayed true to her principles. Her campaign was people-driven, disciplined, and lawful. “Others were distributing liquor and cash. I was distributing ideas and integrity.” Her journey with the IPAC had its share of turbulence Internal politics, lack of transparency, and unethical demands pushed her to assert her independence. “They wanted access to my laptop, my accounts, and even tried emotional blackmail. But I refused to compromise My election agent an exAssistant Commissioner and a stickler for law—stood by me.”

Now, as she reflects on her political future, Seoula is both hopeful and grounded. She knows that in politics, timing is everything and that real change requires patience, integrity, and public trust. "Politics and law are both lifelong commitments for me. They are not just professions—they are part of my personality." Today, Seoula Vas stands as a beacon of youthful promise, determination, and ethical leadership in Goa’s political arena. With a strong foundation in law, a natural flair for public administration, and a commitment to listening to the people, she embodies the future of a new, more transparent political culture. “You can’t ignore your calling,” she says. “If you’ve been given a voice, you must use it—not just for yourself, but for the greater good.”

MANGUIRISH BANDODKAR

Goa's Rising Star, From Engineering to Cinematic Visionary

Manguirish Jagdish Bandodkar's story is a compelling narrative of unexpected turns and artistic awakenings It's a journey that began not amidst the vibrant hues of a film set, nor within the fluid movements of a dance studio, but rather within the structured c o n f i n e s o f e l e c t r i c a l engineering. Graduating with a diploma from Government Polytechnic Panaji, Manguirish seemed destined for a life of technical precision. Yet, beneath the surface of circuit diagrams and voltage calculations, a different kind of current pulsed – a creative energy that yearned for expression. "Engineering was a p a t h , n o t a p a s s i o n , " h e confesses, his gaze reflecting a deeper, more profound calling. That calling resonated in the rhythmic cadence of dance and the captivating narratives of cinema.

Rhythms and Reels: A Dual Artistic Ascent

His formative years at Peoples High School laid the groundwork for this dual artistic ascent. While navigating the rigors of academic life, Manguirish discovered the e x p r e s s i v e l a n g u a g e o f movement. A self-driven learner, he sought out training in Hip Hop a n d B a l l r o o m , a b s o r b i n g knowledge from instructors across India and even venturing into workshops in the culturally rich landscapes of Rajasthan. This dedication culminated in the creation of MesmeriZerZ India, a dance venture that defied conventional expectations, pushing the boundaries of artistic

expression within Goa.

However, the stage, with its fleeting moments of performance, was merely a prelude to a grander cinematic vision. The allure of the silver screen beckoned, promising a more enduring form of storytelling. A Diploma in Filmmaking from Vinsan Academy of Film & Media ignited a fire within him, transforming him from a passive observer of cinema to an active creator. He wasn't merely learning the technicalities of filmmaking; he was immersing himself in its very essence. From serving as an Assistant Cameraman on the critically acclaimed "Sthalapuran," which graced the prestigious Berlinale International Film Festival, to taking on the role of Assistant Director on the highly anticipated "Baramulla," Manguirish was systematically building his cinematic repertoire, each project a stepping stone towards his own unique cinematic voice.

Stories That Matter: Award-Winning Social Cinema

Manguirish's films transcend the realm of mere entertainment; they are powerful narratives that resonate with the human experience, often addressing pressing social issues. His work, particularly his impactful anti-tobacco and environmental films, has garnered numerous awards, a testament to his ability to weave compelling stories with meaningful messages. "Cinema has the power to impact," he asserts, his voice imbued with conviction. "I want to tell stories that make a difference, that spark conversations, and inspire change."

The Creative Eye: Transitioning to Cinematography

His transition to filmmaking was equally organic. "I took a photography course, but I didn't see it as my life's path. My teachers and friends said I had a 'creative eye'," he recalls. It was at IFFI where he truly fell in love with cinematography. "Holding a camera made me

happy," he says. This passion led him to work on significant projects like the Marathi film "Sthalapuran," selected for the Berlinale Film Festival, and "Baramulla," a Hindi feature film. Building a Creative Empire: KlikPikz and Fish Curry Rice Productions

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit as vibrant as his artistry, Manguirish established KlikPikz Cinematics and Fish Curry Rice Productions. The latter, a YouTube channel, serves as a platform for his unique brand of storytelling, celebrating the rich tapestry of Goan culture. Shows like "Fool 2 Fakana," with its humorous interviews, and "Collab Unplugged," with its innovative mashups of Konkani music, capture the essence of Goa, while "The Simple Talks" highlights the achievements of local heroes, fostering a sense of community pride.

Looking Ahead: Funding Dreams and Future Visions

Currently, Manguirish is deeply invested in his latest Konkani short film, a project that faces the familiar challenges of funding that often plague independent filmmakers. Yet, his unwavering commitment to his vision shines through. "Making films in Goa isn't easy, but it's where my heart is," he affirms, his determination palpable His future plans include expanding the reach of Fish Curry Rice Productions, producing more documentaries that delve into the heart of Goan culture, and continuing to create content that resonates with audiences.

A Cinematic Education: The Influence of IFFI

Manguirish acknowledges the profound influence of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on his cinematic sensibilities. "IFFI opened my eyes to diverse genres and storytelling," he reflects, his voice tinged with gratitude. "It was a transformative experience, one that continues to shape my approach to

filmmaking. I'm still learning, and that's the beauty of cinema – it's a constant journey of discovery."

A Legacy in the Making: Inspiring a Generation

Manguirish Jagdish Bandodkar's journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion and perseverance. He's not merely making films; he's crafting a legacy, one that inspires a generation of aspiring artists to chase their dreams, embrace their roots, and tell stories that matter. He is a true Goan artist, a rising star in the cinematic landscape, and a voice that demands to be heard. STAMPED IN TIME

The Lasting Legacy of Goa's Village Post

Why Goa's Village Post Offices Are Still Important in the Age of the Internet? Step into a Goan village, and amid the coconut palms and colourful homes, you'll likely spot an old, familiar sight—the village post office. You might think, in this digital age w h e r e W h a t s A p p d e l i v e r s messages in nanoseconds and Amazon brings parcels straight to your doorstep, these humble institutions would be relics of the past. But guess what? They're still standing tall, playing a role far greater than just sending letters and selling stamps.

W h i l e m o s t o f u s n o w communicate via emails and instant messaging, the village post office in Goa remains the heart of rural life. It's where the elderly come for pensions, f a r m e r s r e c e i v e c r u c i a l government subsidies, and sometimes, where the local matchmaker works their magic. Yes, believe it or not, many love stories have begun over casual conversations at the village post office It's not just a service centre—it's a living, breathing part of Goa's social fabric.

A S o c i a l N e t w o r k T h a t Predates

the Internet

Before there was Facebook, there was the village post office. It's where people gather to share news (and let's be honest, gossip too). It was the original social n e t w o r k , a p l a c e w h e r e neighbours bumped into each other, friendships were forged,

and even political debates flared up now and then.

Unlike the sterile, robotic efficiency of digital communication, the post office offers something truly irreplaceable human connection. Villagers know their postmaster by name, and in many cases, the postmaster knows every family's history, struggles, and celebrations. They don't just deliver letters; they deliver smiles, familiarity, and trust.

More Than Just Mail: The Lifeline of Rural Goa

Post offices in Goa's villages are a one-stop solution for financial services. Many villagers rely on them for savings accounts, money orders, and life insurance. With India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) ensuring digital banking reaches even the most remote areas, these post offices now help people access their money without having to travel miles to the nearest city.

And let's not forget pensions. For many senior citizens, the post office is the difference between dignity and financial hardship Monthly pensions, social security payments,

GOA’S

and rural employment wages are all distributed here. It's not just about collecting money; it's about security, routine, and the assurance that someone is looking out for them.

Government Services Right at Your Doorstep

The Indian government has recognized the enduring power of the post office and turned it into a hub for essential services. The 'Five Star Villages' scheme ensures that postal schemes reach even the farthest corners of Goa, helping villagers access insurance, bank accounts, and even Aadhaar-related services. In a world where everything is going digital, this is one way to ensure that people without smartphones or internet access aren't left behind.

Can

the Post Office Survive the Internet Age?

Despite their importance, Goa's village post offices face a looming threat—underfunding, understaffing, and an increasingly digital world Some have shut down due to low footfall, while others struggle with outdated

infrastructure. Many younger villagers prefer digital transactions, forcing the postal system to adapt or risk fading into oblivion.

But here's the twist: post offices are fighting back! The Indian postal system has been upgrading rural branches, digitizing records, and even offering online services The introduction of handheld devices at rural post offices ensures villagers can perform banking transactions without ever needing a smartphone.

The Irreplaceable Charm of the Village Post Office

Let's be honest, no matter how fast technology advances, there's something uniquely comforting about the village post office. Maybe it's the smell of old letters, the rows of meticulously labelled mailboxes, or just the friendly postmaster who knows exactly where your aunt's cousin's son is living these days. There's a charm in slow communication—a kind of anticipation and personal touch that a quick text message simply can't replicate.

In Goa, where time slows down and people still value personal connections, the village post office remains a symbol of continuity It represents something rare in today's world—a place where human interaction still matters, where services are provided with a smile, and where life isn't just about speed, but about connection.

Conclusion: More Than Just a Post Office

So the next time you find yourself in a Goan village, take a moment to visit its post office. You'll see a place where history meets the present, where tradition embraces modernity, and where people still find reasons to meet, talk, and share stories. The village post office isn't just about delivering letters—it's about delivering a sense of belonging. And that, no matter how digital the world gets, is something worth holding onto.

HONK IF YOU LOVE PÃO!

The Fading Echo of Goa's Morning Bread Horn

In the heart of Goa's sun-kissed villages, where the aroma of the sea mingles with the fragrance of blooming bougainvillea, a familiar sound once heralded the break of dawn—the distinctive honk of the poder's horn. Balancing a wicker basket brimming with freshly baked bread on their sturdy bicycles, these traditional bread sellers, known locally as poders, were the lifeline of Goan households, delivering warmth and sustenance right to the doorstep. Today, however, this cherished tradition teeters on the brink of obscurity, challenged by t h e r e l e n t l e s s m a r c h o f modernization and shifting societal dynamics.

The Rise of the Poder: A Slice of History

The term poder is derived from the Portuguese word padeiro, meaning baker, a testament to Goa's colonial past and the profound influence of Portuguese culture on its culinary landscape. Introduced in the 1550s by Jesuit missionaries, bread-making became an integral part of Goan life, with local converts adopting and adapting these techniques to create unique varieties of bread that have stood the test of time. citeturn0search2

Morning Melodies: The Poder's Daily Ritual

At the crack of dawn, the poder would embark on his daily journey, navigating narrow lanes and bylanes, his horn—a simple rubber bulb attached to a metal r e e d s e r v i n g a s b o t h announcement and invitation. Villagers, young and old, would

gather at their doorsteps, exchanging pleasantries and news as they awaited their share of pão (soft bread), undo (crusty rolls), or poee (whole wheat pockets). This ritual was more than a mere transaction; it was a thread in the intricate tapestry of community life, weaving bonds of familiarity and trust citeturn0search8

The Bread Basket: Varieties That Define Goan Cuisine

Goan bread is as diverse as the land itself, each type reflecting a blend of indigenous ingredients and Portuguese influence. The pão is a soft, square-shaped bread perfect for mopping up spicy curries. The undo, with its crusty exterior and soft interior, pairs excellently with morning tea. The poee, a puffed, whole-wheat bread, is favored by the health-conscious, while the kankna, a bangleshaped bread, offers a crunchy delight. These breads are not just food items; they are cultural symbols, each bite offering a taste of Goa's rich heritage. citeturn0search2

Crumbs of Change: Challenges Facing the Poders

Despite their integral role, poders face numerous challenges threatening the survival of this age-old profession. The rising cost of essential ingredients, such as toddy a traditional fermenting agent extracted from coconut palms—has made traditional breadmaking economically unviable. The price of toddy has escalated from 30 to 120 per liter, prompting many bakers to switch to commercial yeast, which, purists argue, compromises the bread's authentic flavor and texture. citeturn0search2

Furthermore, the younger generation's reluctance to continue in the family trade has led to a decline in traditional bakeries. The AllGoa Association of Bakers reports that in regions like Salcete, approximately 75% of

bakeries have either shut down or been outsourced to non-Goans, altering the traditional methods and the very essence of Goan bread. citeturn0search3

M o d e r n L o a v e s : T h e I m p a c t o f

Industrialization

The advent of industrial bakeries and the influx of commercially produced bread have further imperiled the poder tradition. These massproduced alternatives, often lacking the distinctive taste and texture of traditional Goan bread, have nonetheless captured a significant market share due to their longer shelf life and widespread availability Consequently, many traditional bakers struggle to compete, leading to a gradual erosion of this cultural cornerstone citeturn0search9

Breaking Bread: Efforts to Preserve the Tradition

Recognizing the cultural and historical significance of the poder, various initiatives have emerged to preserve this dying art Culinary festivals, such as the Poderachem Fest (Baker's Festival), celebrate the legacy of Goan bread and its makers, offering a platform for traditional bakers to showcase their skills and products. These festivals not only provide economic support but also raise awareness about the importance of sustaining this unique aspect of Goan heritage citeturn0search12

Additionally, some bakeries have begun to innovate by introducing new flavors and varieties, aiming to attract a broader customer base while staying true to traditional methods. Collaborations with local businesses and tourism boards have also been initiated to promote Goan bread as a culinary attraction, thereby providing poders with new avenues for income and recognition.

The Daily Bread: A Cultural Imperative

GOA’S PREMIER

The decline of the poder is not merely the loss of a profession but the fading of a cultural emblem that has shaped Goan identity for centuries The sight of the bread-laden bicycle, the sound of the horn, and the warm exchange between the poder and the villagers encapsulate the spirit of community and tradition. Preserving this tradition is essential, not just for the sake of nostalgia, but to maintain the cultural fabric that defines Goa. Conclusion: Kneading a Future for the Poders

As Goa strides towards modernization, it is imperative to strike a balance between progress and preservation. The poders are more than just bread sellers; they are custodians of a rich culinary legacy that has been kneaded, baked, and shared across generations. Supporting them through subsidies, training, and by fostering appreciation for traditional breads can ensure that the aroma of freshly baked pão continues to waft through the alleys of Goa, and the honk of the poder's horn remains a cherished morning melody for years to come.

In embracing and safeguarding the poder tradition, Goa not only preserves its past but also secures a future where culture and commerce can coexist harmoniously. After all, a world without the poder would not just be missing a bread seller—it would be missing a piece of Goa's soul.

SHISHARANNI

A Sacred Ritual of Blood, Sacrifice, and Divine Connection

In the heart of Goa, a unique and powerful ritual called Shisharanni is performed once every three years during the vibrant Shigmo festival at the Shri Mallikarjun Temple in Avem-Khotigao, Canacona

This ritual, deeply rooted in t r a d i t i o n , e v o k e s a w e , curiosity, and even fear due to its intense nature. But for the people who participate in it, it’s much more than just a blood-chilling spectacle it’s an expression of devotion, sacrifice, and belief that transcends the physical boundaries of the human body.

The Ritual Itself: A Rare Blend of Tradition and Faith Shisharanni is a blend of two words—shisha, a type of tree, a n d R a n n i , m e a n i n g a traditional cooking place. The ritual takes place in the sacred space of the Shri Mallikarjun Temple, with devotees from not only Goa but also from neighboring regions such as Karwar flocking to participate in or witness the event. The practice is centered around three men, known as gades, who are believed to be the t e m p o r a r y e a r t h l y representatives of God. They serve as vessels for divine energy during the ritual, c a r r y i n g o u t a c t s t h a t

symbolize sacrifice, protection, and divine connection.

On the day of the ritual, these three gades lay down on the ground, their heads covered with a wet cloth and layers of plantain trunk. This is done to form a sacred cooking place, which serves as the foundation for the ritual. An earthen pot filled with rice is placed on their heads. The pot, which rests upon the three men, is then heated by the burning branches of the Shisha tree beneath it. This creates a makeshift cooking stove, similar to the traditional cooking methods used by Goan villagers, symbolizing a link between the divine and the earth.

The intensity of this ritual, however, doesn’t stop at simply cooking rice. As the rice boils, the ritual enters its next phase—one that sends a chill down the spine of many. A sword is used to cut the crown of one of the gades’ heads, and the blood that emerges from the wound is then added to the cooked rice. This act of drawing blood is seen as a form of sacrifice—a symbolic offering to the gods that deepens the spiritual significance of the ritual.

The Symbolism Behind the Sacrifice

At the heart of the Shisharanni ritual is the concept of sacrifice—both physical and spiritual. The blood that is drawn during the ritual is believed to symbolize a pure offering to the divine, an act that connects the earthly realm with the divine. The sacrifice is not a random act of violence but is done with reverence and purpose, representing a deep, intrinsic connection to the gods.

The men who participate in the ritual, known as gades, are not seen as mere individuals performing a task, but rather as embodiments of the divine spirit. The belief that they are filled with divine protection is a crucial part of the ritual. As the branches of the Shisha tree burn close to their heads, and the rice is cooked using the heat from the flames, the men remain unharmed. Locals believe that the gades are shielded by the power of the gods, which enables them to withstand the intense physical conditions of the ritual.

This connection between the gods and the participants highlights the broader cultural and spiritual values that shape

Goan traditions. The ritual is not just about what happens during the event, but the deep meaning it holds for the community. It’s a reaffirmation of faith, an expression of devotion, and a recognition of the sacrifices made by those who serve as vessels for the divine.

The Aftermath: Rice and Superstition

Once the rice is cooked, the final phase of the ritual involves the distribution of the rice to the gathered devotees. However, because the rice is cooked using sacrificial blood, it is considered to carry an element of bad luck. As the rice is thrown at the crowd, people often scatter, trying to avoid the blood-stained rice. This act of avoidance is rooted in superstition—the belief that coming into contact with the rice could bring misfortune.

Interestingly, this aspect of the ritual is where the boundaries between faith and superstition blur. While many people come to the ritual seeking blessings and spiritual connection, the belief that the bloodinfused rice brings bad luck reflects the complex interplay of good and bad, purity and impurity, that is central to many religious practices It raises a larger question about the role of superstition in religious rituals: can one separate the sacred from the feared? In Goa, such rituals are deeply intertwined with both the revered and the feared elements of the divine.

The History and Significance of Shri Mallikarjun Temple

To understand Shisharanni, it’s important to place the ritual in its historical and religious context. Shri Mallikarjun Temple in Canacona has a rich history and is considered one of the oldest temples in Goa. The temple is dedicated to Lord Mallikarjun, a form of Lord Shiva, with the name Mallikarjuna stemming from a legend in the Mahabharata, where Lord Shiva, in the guise of a hunter, helped Arjuna defeat the Demon Malla.

This legend provides a fascinating narrative for understanding the significance of the temple and its rituals. The temple itself is nestled in the lush, green valley of Shristhal, surrounded by hills, and is seen as a place of spiritual protection and divine blessing. The rich history of the temple, which is believed to

date back to the 16th century, adds layers of depth to the rituals performed there. The connection between the temple, the deities, and the land further enriches the spiritual experience for the devotees.

The Ritual’s Role in Modern Goa

In modern Goa, where tourism and urban development have reshaped much of the cultural landscape, traditional rituals like Shisharanni continue to hold immense cultural and spiritual significance. Despite being a state known for its modernity and cosmopolitan lifestyle, Goa retains a deep connection to its roots, and rituals like Shisharanni act as a reminder of its heritage.

For many, these rituals offer a rare opportunity to witness something extraordinary and to engage with a tradition that has survived centuries of change. But for others, the ritual might seem out of place in today’s world, raising questions about the relevance of such practices in a more secular, modern society. Yet, the fact that the ritual continues to be celebrated with such fervor speaks to the enduring power of tradition and the spiritual ties that bind the people of Goa to their culture and land.

Tradition Meets the Present

The Shisharanni ritual at Shri Mallikarjun Temple offers a powerful glimpse into Goa’s deep spiritual and cultural traditions. It’s a ritual that challenges the boundaries between faith, sacrifice, and superstition. Amid a modern world, this ritual remains a potent reminder of the values, beliefs, and practices that have shaped the lives of Goans for centuries. As Goa continues to evolve, rituals like Shisharanni help preserve its unique heritage, ensuring that the past remains intertwined with the present and that the spirit of tradition is kept alive for future generations.

GOAN TAXPAYERS REELING AS 470% SPIKE IN ERRORS PROMPTS GOVERNMENT ACTION

Goa's taxpayers, particularly those governed by the Portuguese Civil Code, are grappling with a staggering 470% surge in erroneous tax demands over the past four years. The root of the problem lies in Section 5A of the Income Tax Act, which permits income splitting between spouses a provision unique to Goa. However, flawed processing under this section has led to

widespread inaccuracies, leaving many residents facing inflated or incorrect tax liabilities.

Recognizing the distress this has caused, the Central Processing Centre (CPC) in Bengaluru has l a u n c h e d a s u o - m o t u rectification drive, correcting 2,975 out of 3,008 identified error cases. Only 33 remain pending due to appeals and procedural issues. This intervention reflects a s t r o n g commitment to resolving unjust demands.

To further ease the burden, the Finance Ministry is considering w i t h d r a w i n g d i s p u t e d t a x demands up to 25,000 for the period up to FY 2009-10 and up to 10,000 for FY 2010-11 to 20141 5 m a n y o f which are tied to o u t d a t e d Portuguese-era provisions still e m b e d d e d i n Goa's tax framework. While these administrative fixes are welcome, experts stress the need for a broader systemic overhaul Greater taxpayer awareness, improved training for tax officials, and robust support tools such as helplines and simplified online platforms are critical to preventing such issues in the future.

The debacle also puts the faceless assessment system under scrutiny Designed to enhance transparency and reduce errors, its efficiency now faces serious questions.

As India pushes for economic reform and digital governance, ensuring accurate, fair, and transparent tax systems is vital. G o a ' s c a s e i s a w a k e - u p call—fixing the numbers is only part of the solution. Restoring trust in the system requires a human touch and a modernized approach.

GLUTEUS AND THIGH TONING

You will be happy to know that you are not the only one out there who wants to tone their gluteus (butt) and thighs into shape. How often, though, is it that you start a toning program for your butt and thighs and find your butt and thighs actually grow instead of shrink! This situation has a tendency to put people off training because they don't get the results they expect.

Why You have Problems Reducing Your Gluteus and Thighs Size?

2. Toning Exercise

“It is important that you perform a full body workout, rather than just concentrating on your gluteus and thighs. Perform an exercise on each body part using light weights and high reps on your lower half. One of the best ways to ensure you are re-shaping your body with the correct workout, especially if you are pear shaped, is to look into getting a program designed for you. It is well worth your while and it will save you a lot of frustration.”

Regular exercise strengthens your heart and lungs and it can strengthen bones, slowing d o w n t h e p r o c e s s o f osteoporosis. It can help you move easily by keeping your joints, tendons and ligaments more flexible. Can help you lose weight when combined with good eating habits or maintain ideal weight by burning excess calories and promote sense of well being.

The reason that you have so many problems trying to rid yourself of your thighs and butt is because these areas are main storage areas for body fat. For women reducing these areas can drive you nuts! The reason for having these fat storage areas is to assist us in times of survival. Let me put it this way. Say you were stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no food, and just water. Your body would, after a while, start "kicking into your body fat storage" to help you survive, because you are not consuming any food. In the case of women during pregnancy if this occurred you would be "surviving for two" - thus the larger fat storage area.

How Eating the Wrong Food Affects Your Gluteus and Thigh Size

The size increase in your butt and thigh areas can depend on the type of program you are performing and what you are eating. To start with if your body fat storage areas tend to be around your butt and thighs you need to be very careful of the extra bits and pieces you snack on. You can bet that most of the time when you consume extra calories and fat it will go straight to your thighs and Glutes.

H o w P e r f o r m i n g t h e W r o n g

Exercises Affects Your Gluteus and Thigh Size

Then there is exercise. What you need to know is that there are workouts to increase the size in your butt and thighs and workouts to re-shape and reduce the size of your butt and thighs.

How to Reduce Your Gluteus (Butt) and Thigh Size!

1. Fat Burning Exercise

Fat burning exercise is a great way to help reduce the size of your thighs and gluteus. To start with try walking or using the treadmill. or cycling or cross trainer are great too, just as long as you keep the resistance to an absolute minimum. Why!? Because often when first starting an exercise program your muscle growth is easily stimulated, which means if you include too much resistance in your fat burning exercise you may promote muscle growth and size.

It is important that you perform a full body workout, rather than just concentrating on your gluteus and thighs. Perform an exercise on each body part using light weights and high reps on your lower half. One of the best ways to ensure you are reshaping your body with the correct workout, especially if you are pear shaped, is to look into getting a program designed for you. It is well worth your while and it will save you a lot of frustration.

3. Low Fat Eating Program

I know you think low-fat eating is boring but it's not. Although if you choose to make it boring and choose not to experiment with low fat foods then I guess it would be. There are so many wonderful ways to eat the supposed "fast foods" as "low in fat". There are so many options out there if you only look.

A low fat "simple to follow eating program" is vital when re-shaping your body and will determine whether or not you achieve your re-shaping program goals. Your workout/s and eating program work hand in hand to help stimulate your metabolism to burn body fat and to help re-shape and tone muscle.

Basic Butt Shaping Exercises to Tighten, Firm and Sculpt your Gluteus!

1.The Squat

The sq uat is the single best exercise for strengthening, toning and shaping the thighs and Gluteus. Not only does it tighten and tone your rear but its the no.1 overall exercise for building lean quality muscle!

Stand holding a barbell resting across your upper trapezius and shoulders, hands wider than shoulder-width apart. Place your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, feet angled slightly outward. Pull your shoulders back slightly, contract your lower-back muscles, take a deep breath and hold it. Looking straight ahead, slowly bend at the knees, inclining your torso forward slightly and descending under control until your thighs are just above parallel to the ground Don't bounce at the bottom, but don't stop either. Push through your heels to drive yourself back up, contracting your gluteus muscles (buttocks) strongly and exhaling as you pass the halfway point. Take a deep breath and repeat.

2. The Lunge

The lunge is another very popular exercise for toning and firming leg and butt muscles. Position your feet about shoulder width apart, with your

feet pointing straight ahead. Pick up a pair of dumbbells or a barbell(you may want to do a set without dumbbells first to learn the movement), bending at your knees to make sure you don't strain your back. To begin the exercise, step your left foot forward, keeping your forward leg centered over your ankle. Make sure your knee doesn't go beyond your toes or you'll place extreme tension on the tendons of your knee. To help maintain balance, remember to push off with your heels and not your toes. When coming back to the starting position, focus on straightening your knee and hip. Stay focused on your front leg even if you feel tension in your back leg. Think of your back leg as the balancer and your front leg muscles as the primary mover. Work one leg at a time rather than alternating between one leg and the other.

3. One-Legged Cable Kickback

Hook a leather cuff to a low cable pulley and then attach the cuff to your ankle. Face the weight stack from a distance of about two feet, grasping its steel frame for support. Keeping your knees and hips bent slightly and your abs tight, contract your gluteus (buttocks) to slowly "kick" the working leg back in a semicircular arc as high as it will comfortably go At full extension, squeeze your gluteus for peak contraction. Bring your working leg forward, resisting the pull of the cable until you reach the starting position. After completing the desired number of reps, complete an identical number using the opposite leg.

Gluteus Kickback

Get on your hands and knees on the floor, knees bent at 90 degrees so thighs are perpendicular to the floor. Keeping your head up, lift your right leg back and up, maintaining your 90 degree knee bend, until your foot is higher than your head or your thigh is horizontally in line with your torso. Squeeze your right gluteus and slowly lower your leg back to start position. Perform the same with your left leg, and repeat.

4. Hamstring Curl

This is a great exercise for toning and firming the hamstring and gluteus muscles. Lie face-down on a leg-curl machine and position your Achilles' tendons below the padded lever with your knees off the edge of the pad. To begin the exercise, keep your back flat as you raise your feet toward your gluteus (butt) in a deliberate motion. Squeeze the muscles and lower your feet with a controlled speed. Repeat.

SOUTH VS NORTH: THAT IS THE QUESTION

“Overall, it seems safe to assume that smaller plot sized villas with a larger number of units in the project is what is typically expected in North Goa in order to appeal to holiday home buyers. However, anything independent or gated with a larger plot size may be considered for relocation in the north as well.”

The question on everyone' mind these days is whether South Goa deserves your attention over North Goa. While each location has its own advantages and disadvantages, the truth is, depending on the personality and intended use of the buyer, there is a clear winner for either. Here's how.

Goa gets a wide spectrum of buyers. People looking to relocate with families, young singles or couples who are looking for a different life, elderly retirees and the usual holiday home buyer looking for rental income. Each of these have slightly different preferences in locations, floor plans, villa types and more. Conventionally, almost all of

these categories would buy in the north. However recently, a split has begun to emerge in the thinking on homebuyers. Here's what we've learned.

Who buys in the north?

Anyone looking for short term rental income, holiday home buyers, young couples/singles looking for nightlife and cafes as well as relocation families who are looking for the better private schools, will all consider the north. However is someone is very price conscious, they may head to the south and forego all the draws of the north.

Who buys in the south?

Relocation retirees, relocation clients who don't care about rentals, couples looking for peace

and quiet, people who want a swimmable beach nearby and basically any relocation client who doesn't have children will likely prefer the south. Another factor in favour of the south is that it tends to be considerably cheaper than similar homes in the north.

What should developers do?

As in any business, identify your t a r g e t a u d i e n c e a n d conceptualize accordingly. Goa used to have a 'one size fits all' approach. Holiday home buyers and relocation buyers would all be buying homes next to each other and it worked out well

However, increasingly, this conventional approach of ' one size fits all' doesn't' fit Goa anymore. Developers who sing to a specific audience always find success faster than those who don't.

Overall, it seems safe to assume that smaller plot sized villas with a larger number of units in the project is what is typically expected in North Goa in order to appeal to holiday home buyers. However, anything independent or gated with a larger plot size may be considered for relocation in the north as well.

On the other hand, in the south, the expectation is that things will be bigger, less crowded and better priced, all best suited for relocation or self use.

So depending on whom you're targeting, it makes sense to tailor the project accordingly.

Headaches are one of the most common health complaints worldwide, affecting a significant portion of the population including children and are leading cause of disability, particularly migraines, leading to absenteeism from work, school affecting quality of life.

Up to 50% of adults report having a headache at some point in a given year with global prevalence of migraines about 12% and 10 % in Indian population affecting females more than males in the age of 18-45 years of age. Migraines are primarily believed to involve abnormal brain response leading to the release of chemicals responsible for pain resulting in swelling of brain vessels. Triggers, including stress, hormonal fluctuations, certain foods, smell or environmental factors which can provoke the attack. Genetic factors also make certain individuals more susceptible to migraines. Newer medications promising longer pain free period include triptans, Gpants , ditans and monoclonal antibodies. more evidence and studies

However avoiding triggers , healthy life style , daily walk is the pillar of management. What is beyond migraine? What you mean secondary headaches?

Headaches are classified as p r i m a r y a n d s e c o n d a r y headaches. Primary headaches include migraine, tension type h e a d a c h e s a n d c l u s t e r headaches.

Tension type headaches usually associated with physical as well as mental exhaustion presenting as with neck pain with headache over back of heads Unlike migraine these are featureless. C l u s t e r h e a d a c h e s a r e associated with repeated, short duration headaches, may occur many times in a day, mostly associated with redness and / or watering of eyes , severe intensity , not relieved by regular pain killers with good response to oxygen therapy. Mostly seen in younger males and need MRI scan to see pituitary gland related problems.

Secondary headaches are

treatable headaches. If not treated on time, h e a d a c h e s w i l l worsen and may get complicated as loss of vision, seizures, facial paralysis or few require surgery.

Certain red flags one needs to be aware of are temporary or i n t e r m i t t e n t diminution of vision, vomiting & tinnitus ( raised brain pressure known as idiopathic

) , double vision ( stroke,

) , unconsciousness (seizure) , patients on long term hormonal therapy or oral contraceptive pills ( possibility of venous strokes) , e l d e r l y a g e g r o u p a n d associated co morbidities like heart disease, obesity , diabetes , cancer , kidney or liver disease need urgent evaluation. As a neurologist I want you to know few above mentioned t e

symptoms for better discussion with your neuro, identify triggers, avoid over the counter pain killers. Most importantly watch for red flags and practice healthy lifestyle because prevention is the best cure!
