As the year reaches its conclusion, it's a time laden with memories prompting us to prepare for the new year with fresh resolutions and commitments—whether we stick to them is another story altogether. At Incredible Goa, we endeavor to offer the finest content, information, and knowledge through the dedicated efforts of our team, constantly improving the magazine with each issue. If you're a regular reader, you've most likely witnessed this evolution firsthand. The state's population is soaring like never before, and the extensive infrastructure is struggling to accommodate the increasing influx of people. Travelling both into and out of the capital city has become an incredibly daunting task due to the sheer rise in the number of vehicles. Whether Goa is transforming into a city like Mumbai or Pune remains uncertain, but it seems to be heading in that direction. While development typically brings in more revenue and opportunities, its implications for a place like Goa remain uncertain. Goa has been revered as the safest and liveliest place in the country, drawing many to invest in secondary homes here. The trend of relocating, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Goa as the sole open destination while the rest of the world was under lockdown. Previously, the floating population would surge only during peak seasons like year-end festivities,

film festivals, or Carnival. However, this trend has shifted to a constant influx due to over half of Goa being transformed into secondary homes for numerous individuals and businesses. There's a local saying in Goa that suggests "there are hardly any Goans left in Goa," although it's not entirely accurate. Yet, the reality remains that the floating population exceeds the actual resident population of the state. The burgeoning floating population has led to consistent growth in the hospitality sector, marked by the frequent introduction of new properties across the state. Major hotel chains have multiple establishments, predominantly owned by businesses from Mumbai and Delhi. Despite the proliferation of hotels, the occupancy rates consistently remain high in each property. Surprisingly, even during the offseason, securing rooms becomes a challenge, with bookings for weddings and significant events often made a year in advance. The surge in population signifies increased revenue for many businesses, yet it could potentially pose a threat to the serenity and tranquility that makes Goa a sought-after destination for residents and visitors alike. Goa is gearing up to host the highly anticipated India Energy Week (IEW) 2024 from February 6-9 at the IPSHEM-ONGC Training Institute. Following the success of its inaugural edition, IEW 2024 promises to be a catalyst for insightful discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among industry experts,

policymakers, academia, and entrepreneurs. Primary S c h o o l i n Gajanan, South Goa—on November 25, 2023. The event commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting by the association's founding members and the dedicated teachers. Mr. Prashil Salkar, President of AGDBYA, extended a warm welcome to esteemed guests and the young students. Retired teacher Mrs Shalan Ashok Shirodkar, among other

educators, lauded the association for their choice to celebrate Children's Day at their school, expressing gratitude for the initiative. A range of engaging activities, including colouring sessions, drawing exercises, and painting workshops, were organized for students from 1st to 4th standard. KINECO KAMAN'S PIONEERING ROLE IN INDIA'S SPACE ODYSSEY

In a momentous achievement, Kineco Kaman Composites India Private Limited recently marked a significant milestone by successfully completing the inaugural delivery of the Orbital Module Adaptor Assembly (OMA). This pivotal component is destined for the prestigious Gaganyaan Human Space Flight Mission orchestrated by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

The ceremonious flag-off, hosted virtually from their state-of-theart facility in Goa, was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, and Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of VSSC. This groundbreaking event witnessed the convergence of key officials from VSSC alongside the dedicated team of professionals at Kineco Kaman, marking a triumph of collaboration and

innovation. Handpicked as the preferred partner by VSSC in June 2022, Kineco Kaman's selection stemmed from its impeccable track record and unwavering performance in pivotal space programs. Their prowess was evident in projects such as the Dual Helix Antennas for the Indian Regional Navigational Satellite program (IRNSS) and the critical EBS Assembly for missions like LVM3-M2/OneWeb India and Chandrayaan-3. At the heart of this accomplishment lies the intricately crafted OMA—a 4meter diameter, conical Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) structure seamlessly integrated with precision-machined metallic rings. Functioning as a vital assembly within the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mk-III, the OMA acts as a crucial interface between the Crew Escape module and the Equipment Bay shroud.

Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Shekhar Sardessai, Founder of Kineco Group and Chairman and Managing Director of Kineco Kaman, expressed his elation. "Following the triumph of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, Kineco Kaman is proud to contribute to India's inaugural Human Space Flight Mission – Gaganyaan," he stated. GOA CM DR PRAMOD SAWANT VOWS ACCOUNTABILITY FOR RENTAL CAR ACCIDENTS

Goa's Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is taking a stand to ensure the safety of residents and tourists by holding rental car owners accountable for accidents. Discover the measures being taken to curb reckless driving and irresponsible behavior in the state. Learn about the strict restrictions, coordination efforts, and legal consequences being

enforced to ensure a safer environment for all in Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has stated that owners of rental cars will be held accountable if drivers or passengers in the cars are involved in fatal accidents. Sawant stated on Monday that “accidents linked to rented vehicles are rising in Goa.” “Goans' safety comes before the

careless enjoyment of those who rent cars in the state.” To address the issue, the chief minister has asked for strict restrictions as well as coordinated efforts between the departments of tourism and transportation. He emphasized that individuals who disobey state transportation regulations should be imbued with a feeling of accountability by the regional transport office (RTO) and traffic officials. Sawant continued by emphasizing his severe warning: if a rent-a-bike rider or driver is engaged in an accident that results in fatalities, both the operator and the driver will be held legally responsible. These claims follow the release of widely shared movies purporting to show Goan visitors driving their rental cars carelessly across fields, breaking crops. “We will not allow drunken driving, rash driving, speeding, and similar

irresponsible behaviors in Goa,” Sawant responded. To curb such incidents, he urged rent-a-bike and rent-a-car operators to diligently verify the licenses and documents of their clients before renting vehicles. “Reckless behaviors and evading accountability will not be tolerated,” he said. He urged police to take stern action against the violators, many of whom are tourists.

"My village holds a special place in my heart; its beauty is unmatched people are most loving and caring," he expressed warmly. Nitin's upbringing in a traditional

Gaud Saraswat Brahmin family centred around a joint household in Quepem before he embarked on his career journey in Panaji. Reflecting on his educational path, he shared, "I pursued my graduation at Damodar College in Margao, and later, set my sights on a Law degree at Kare College of Law. Though circumstances prevented its completion, I find myself now in the privileged position of president of the very institution where my educational journey began." It's intriguing how both these alma maters now hold him on their boards, signifying the full circle of his educational and professional trajectory in Goa. Nitin is also on the Board of Governance of IIT, Goa and in past was also on the Board of Management of Goa Institute of Management. Nitin Bhai's professional odyssey commenced as an

officer at Zenith Computers during a pivotal era when computers were just making their foray into the Indian market. He vividly recalls a time when a solitary gigabyte of hard disk commanded a staggering price of nearly one lakh rupees and PC With 286 PROCESSOR with 32 kb RAM, and 10 MB Hard disk were in production. Amidst this challenging landscape, he shouldered the responsibility of driving Zenith's presence in Goa, establishing the company as a trailblazer in the region's computer revolution. "Zenith Computers spearheaded Goa's computer revolution," he reminisced. The milestone of shipping the first computer from the Goa Plant in 1989 remains etched in his memory. "By 1990, a onegigabyte hard disk fetched a staggering one lakh ten thousand rupees, equivalent to thirty-five lakhs today. It was a formative period, and I forged connections within Goa's burgeoning tech community," he recounted. In 1994, a significant career transition beckoned as Nitin Bhai ventured into D-Link, a pioneering networking company in India. He attributes this opportunity to Mr. Kamalaksha Naik, who on his way from the airport to the Verna factory came to see Nitin and discussions thereafter offered a promising career trajectory. He gave me total freedom and let me do what I wished good for the company. It is due to his super support that I could take on GCCI responsibilities and not a single day in my 8 years has he ever expressed any concerns rather than sponsored a few events just because I am President of GCCI and it should withstand my position. He is super good. I learnt generosity and many other virtues from him which I always advocate strongly. We are more than a family now for more than two decades. It's more emotional connection than professional now. I have tremendous affection and warmth towards Mrs. Sudha Naik who has been very fondly looking after us every time when we stayed with them at their most beautiful house in Juhu Mumbai. I am glad now that they are my next-door neighbour at Donapaula. This is my most admired couple on this earth and I love them a lot. They are the best of my friends too irrespective of the age difference and also be the Boss. As 2013 dawned, Nitin Bhai made a resolute decision to bid farewell to the corporate sphere, opting to pursue his pa s s i o n s . " I ' ve ac h i e v e d considerable success, and now, I aim to carve out my time to pursue my dreams, my passions and work around the strengths that I have built over a period of time," he explained. eight. Initially uncertain about the proposition, Dattaraj's doubts were assuaged by Parag's recommendation. Nitin's entry into the chamber provided an opportunity to forge a closer bond with Dattaraj, who later endorsed Nitin for the GCCI presidency. Despite his reservations, Nitin found himself unexpectedly offered the presidency during a chance encounter with Dattaraj—an overwhelming responsibility for someone in his position. His tenure as president marked a unique distinction, given his role as the general manager of D-Link amidst stalwart industrialists and independent businessmen. Despite feeling inexperienced among the seasoned veterans, Nitin received a call from Jitendra Deshprabhu and Srinivas Dempo, confirming his uncontested election as president of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and

"We reactivated various facets to ensure the chamber's financial

sustainability," he recalled. Introducing a fresh team comprising Sand, Blaise Costabir, Sandeep Verenkar, and a few others. Later we expanded by inviting a few leaders like Sandeep Bhandari, Ralph Dsouza, Manoj Caculo, Kirit Maganlal etc. Nitin expanded the board's capacity from fourteen to twenty-one members. Under his leadership, the chamber underwent a remarkable overhaul, transforming into a

sophisticated and u p s c a l e establishment. Nitin Bhai's transition from the corporate arena to the realm of social entrepreneurship stemmed from a profound aspiration. Reflecting on his tenure as president of MAIT, where several impactful policies for the Indian government were crafted, he credited the conception of ERSO—aimed at positioning

India as an Electronic Repair Hub—as his brainchild. Additionally, his stint on the CII board stood as a remarkable and enlightening experience, being among the nation's luminaries—a privilege he deeply appreciated. UNVEILING GAURAV APTE'S JOURNEY FROM MUMBAI TO LEADING GOA MARRIOTT RESORT & SPA

Gaurav Apte is the General Manager of Goa Marriott Resort & Spa, Miramar. Gaurav who always comes across as a very suave personality is a man of few words and his actions actually speak louder. But we tried to get in a candid conversation with Gaurav, trying to discover a little more behind his shy smile. Tell us something about your early days. I was born and brought up in Mumbai. I was good at sports and basically an outdoor person who likes to explore different places and spend time with a lot of friends. How did you choose hospitality as a line, was it intentional or happened by chance? It actually happened by chance. I had got through a good institute in Pune for a Bachelor of Computer Studies and my second option was hotel management as my cousin used to be a Chef in one of the 5star hotels. I used to think that my cousin gets to make and eat such fancy dishes, the hotel industry would be definitely better than Computer studies, hence decided to give it a try. How has living in Goa been for you, was it easy or did you face any challenges initially? Goa used to be and it still is my favorite place to stay or work. I used to make it a point that at least once

a year I travel to Goa and spend a few days there. My first visit to Goa was after my 10th Class, where we school f r i e n d s decided to venture out on our own to Goa and it was right then that I fell in love with Goa. I didn't have any issues moving to Goa as the people are very friendly and also the Konkani language is not difficult to understand if you know Marathi well What do you think is your greatest strength and your biggest weakness? My greatest strength is teamwork. I absolutely believe that you are as strong as your team. Leadership is all about holding the team together to achieve a common goal. My biggest low is when I am unable to prevent any team member from leaving the company and unable to manage their career aspirations, As a team leader, how do you cope with bad business days and keep your team motivated? It is important to understand that when any business is faced with adversity, it is critical to keep the team together and depict a sense of belonging, as it is the team that creates memorable experiences for our guests, and with our motto at Marriott being 'Put People First', we do just that. In our day-to-day operations, we encourage collaborative thinking and cross-functional ideation to bring about a positive and resourceful environment, which ultimately keeps the team engaged especially through difficult times. We at Marriott believe in effective and transparent communication with our team members, which is positive in nature and ensure that every success story is praised.

I think all brands have their uniqueness- some of the hotel chains that I really appreciate are Taj, Oberoi, ITC, Hyatt, Hilton, and Accor. AMNESTY FOR DELAYED FILING OF GST APPEALS CA Gaurav Kenkre is a CA in practice for the last 11 years. The CBIC, through notification number 53/2023 dated 2-November-2023, has notified the Amnesty Scheme for filing appeals against demand orders. This provision is introduced to ensure that the appeals process remains efficient and streamlined. For the order issued by the appropriate officer on or before March 31, 2023, taxpayers may file an appeal using FORM GST APL-01 on the GST portal by January 31, 2024, at the latest. Taxpayers are responsible for selecting the proper ledgers and making the appropriate payments. The GST Portal gives them the option to choose the electronic Credit/Cash ledger as their payment method. Additionally, before considering an appeal, the Appellate Authority's office will verify that the predeposit was paid correctly. If an appeal is filed without the required payment, it may be handled in accordance with the law. If a taxpayer has already filed an appeal and wants it to be covered by the benefit of the amnesty scheme would need to make differential payments to comply with Notification No. 53/2023. Taxpayers who have previously filed an appeal but it was rejected as time barred in APL-02 by the Appellate authority, then the taxpayer would be able to refile the appeal. However, in case, the taxpayers face any issue while re-filing APL-01, a ticket shall be raised on the Grievance redressal portal: https://selfservice.gstsystem.in. The taxpayer shall select the Category “Amnesty Scheme” and the sub-category “Amnesty scheme- Issue in appeal filing” while raising a ticket. Additionally, the taxpayer must contact the appropriate Appellate authority office well in advance in order to meet the deadlines in the notification if the Appellate authority has issued a rejection decision in APL-04 because the appeal application is past due. After determining whether the taxpayer qualifies for the amnesty program, the appellate authority will transmit the matter to the GSTN via the State Nodal officer. Also, it is important to note that for the APL 04 issued cases no direct representations will be entertained by GSTN or through the Grievance redressal portal. APL 04-issued cases have to be compulsorily forwarded through the State Nodal officer. Post receiving the case from the State nodal officer, GSTN will enable the taxpayer to file an appeal against the concerned order.

The bridge is part of a Rs 2,530 crore project covering a distance of 13.2 kilometres between Bambolim in north Goa and Verna villages in south Goa.

The new Zuari cable-stayed bridge is 640m long, with a central span of 360m and end-spans of 140m on both sides.

The bridge deck is built on-site using cutting-edge robotic welding technology. It is transported into the river by barge and lifted and erected by lifting frames.
