WEDDINGS

Set in the glorious Wiltshire countryside, the Fonthill Estate spans over 9,000 acres and is home to Lord Margadale and his family.
Fonthill provides a beautiful backdrop to your wedding . It boasts stunning landmarks such as the Inigo Jones designed archway, the mile-long lake and acres of rolling fields. Serviced by mainline stations in Tisbury and Gillingham, it is easy for your guests to join you for your special day, with train journeys from London taking just over two hours.
There are plenty of accommodation options available locally and your guests will be able to enjoy all this outstanding location has to offer.
The Estate offers three delightful venues to host your wedding: Bake Barn, Quarry Wood and Deer Park Barn all unique in their own way and all offering ‘dry hire’ for you to plan your day, the way you want it.
We would be delighted to welcome you to the Fonthill Estate to celebrate your very special wedding day.
Our most popular wedding venue, this warm stone barn offers couples several spaces to use including the barn itself, the outside covered barn areas and the courtyard. It’s perfect for weddings of between 100 to 120 but can also easily cater for smaller, more intimate events.
Bake Barn is set in the glorious rolling Wiltshire countryside, easily accessible via car and train. You can even arrive by helicopter if you prefer. The Barn offers limited camping and bell tent sites to easily accommodate some of your friends and family and with no noise curfew they can party long into the early hours!
The Barn is a wonderfully warm, rustic space which we offer as a ‘dry’ hire venue meaning you get to create your own special event, as you want, within this charming location. Located up a private track and set within its own walled perimeter, Bake Barn is in a secluded area with no neighbours, so no noise restrictions and no curfew.
Inside, we have exposed the natural beauty of the building with its stone walls, timber rafters and wooden floor. The main room has a fireplace at one end which provides a great focal point for flowers and fairy lights or, for a magical winter wedding - simply light the fire and gather round. Upstairs, the Beater’s Loft is perfect for a ceremony but you could also transform it into a snug, a bar, a dance floor, a photobooth or even a casino.
Outside, the walled perimeter forms a private courtyard. Part of this courtyard is laid to lawn where you could erect a marquee or tipi. The central area is covered with gravel, then on the far side is a covered loggia with a fire pit and over-head heaters.
The site is licensed for civil ceremonies so if you aren’t having a church wedding, you can marry at the Barn, inside or out.
The Beater’s Loft at Bake Barn is a terrific space to host your ceremony or alternatively you can use it as a chillout space, a green room to prepare, a space to entertain children, extra accommodation or to house your band— the choice is yours!

We’ll be as flexible as we can. For a weekend wedding you have access to Bake Barn from set up at 9.00am Thursday until Monday midday. Deliveries are allowed on the Thursday in readiness and collection is normally Monday.
Once we hand over the keys on Thursday morning, you are welcome to keep your own timetable.
Most marquee companies offer furniture hire.
We have a list of suppliers who have catered for events at Fonthill, or you can bring in your own people.
You can run the bar exactly how you like. This is something to discuss with your caterer and with a site visit decide where and how you’d like it set up. Our upstairs space is a popular place or under the loggia outside is another favourite. We do not charge corkage. If you are selling alcohol you will need a licence.
Sadly not. Bake Barn is surrounded by arable fields and a stray spark or ember could destroy an entire crop. We also must consider the horses at the stud and their welfare. However, you may have hand held sparklers.
No, because we are a dry hire venue. However, we can recommend some great party organisers and wedding planners for you to contact directly.
If you are holding your wedding reception at Bake Barn we are happy to grant permission to use the archway, the lake and other beauty spots on the Estate for your wedding photographs.
We do not have a campsite, however, we do have plenty of space, so any camping would be about convenience for your guests. You can hire bell tents from professional companies. We would also insist that you hire toilets for your guests.
We do ask that you sweep up, collect and remove all refuse, but a special plea to recycle where you can. This can be agreed with your caterer as part of their contract but please ensure that you have that conversation.
