The 8th edition of the International Documentary Festival DOCVILLE takes place between April 27th and May 5th 2012. For nine days straight Leuven will be the epicenter of documentary film in Belgium. The festival’s various locations are Kunstencentrum STUK, Cinema ZED, Kinepolis, Museum M and 30cc/Wagehuys. The comprehensive and vibrant program contains around 70 new films, the majority of which will have their premiere in Leuven. DOCVILLE focuses on documentary author’s cinema, films made by directors with a strong vision, but also on solid stories, freshness, originality and new trends in the genre.

De 8ste editie van het Internationaal Documentaire Filmfestival DOCVILLE zal doorgaan van 27 april tot en met 5 mei 2012. 9 dagen lang staat Leuven helemaal in het teken van de documentaire film. Het festival vindt plaats in Kunstencentrum STUK, Cinema ZED, Kinepolis, Museum M en 30cc/Wagehuys. Het brede en kleurrijke programma omvat om en bij 70 nieuwe films, in hoofdzaak premières. DOCVILLE focust daarbij op documentaire auteurscinema, films van makers met een visie, maar ook op sterke verhalen, op frisheid en originaliteit en op nieuwe tendensen in het genre.

This year, DOCVILLE is happy to present three different awards: the CANVAS Jury Prize goes to the best international film and the SCAM Jury Prize rewards the best Belgian film. The third prize, the Con-Science Jury Prize, is new. Every competition has its own jury: a delegation of nine national and international film professionals will decide who can take a prize home.
Er worden maar liefst drie prijzen uitgereikt: de ‘Canvas Juryprijs’ gaat naar de beste film uit de Internationale Selectie, de ‘SCAM Juryprijs’ wordt toegekend aan de Beste Belgische Documentaire en ook de Weten & Geweten Prijs wordt uitgereikt. Iedere competitie heeft zijn eigen jury: een delegatie van 9 nationale en internationale filmprofessionals beslist wie met een prijs naar huis gaat.

ERJA DAMMERT (FI) has been active in the film industry for over 30 years. She teached documentary film making at the University of Industrial Arts, worked as assistant director to Aki Kaurismäki and as director made several documentaries such as the award-winning War Children (2003). Artistic director of DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival since 2011.
ERJA DAMMERT (FI) werkt al meer dan 30 jaar in de filmindustrie. Ze was docent documentaire aan de universiteit, deed regie-assistentie voor onder meer Aki Kaurismäki en regisseerde zelf tal van documentaires waaronder het bekroonde War Children (2003). Is sinds 2011 artistiek directeur van het DocPoint Documentaire Film Festival in Helsinki.
PHILIPPE VAN MEERBEECK (BE) held various positions with the public broadcasting company VRT: from film editor to chief of the TV archives and program manager documentary. Currently works at VRT as strategic policy advisor for digital content projects and teaches documentary at the University of Ghent.
PHILIPPE VAN MEERBEECK (BE) bekleedde verschillende functies binnen de VRT, van monteur over hoofd van het TV-archief tot chef documentaire programmatie. Is er momenteel actief als beleidsadviseur voor digitale projecten. Doceert daarnaast ook documentaire aan de Universiteit van Gent.
YOOHAN LEYSSENS (BE) is senior editor at Woestijnvis where he did the editing of successful series like De Parelvissers, Van Vlees en Bloed and De Ronde as well as the awarded documentaire Sam Dillemans: de waanzin van het detail. He is also one of the initiators of the series Leuven Hulp.

TOM BLEYAERT (BE) graduated as master in Politics and Social Science from the University Ghent. Started working for the national broadcaster VRT in 2000 at the sports department. Since 2001 he is responsible for the purchase of international documentaries for CANVAS.
TOM BLEYAERT (BE) studeerde Politieke en Sociale Wetenschappen en Communicatiewetenschappen aan de RUG. Hij werkt sinds 2000 voor VRT, aanvankelijk voor de af deling Sport, sinds 2001 is hij verantwoordelijk voor de aankoop van buitenlandse documentaires voor CANVAS.

DAVE MESTDACH (BE) is a freelance film journalist whose work has been published in Deng, De Standaard and Knack Focus. Since 2011 he has been Knack Focus’ resident film critic. He is a regular at several film festivals and a founding member of art collective Senior Citizens.

INES SKRBIC (BA), journalist, works for Taskovski Films, an international sales agent and producer of independent documentary and fiction films based in London. Skbic represents Taskovski at festivals and international markets.

FLORIS-JAN VAN LUYN (NL) is a filmmaker and writer. He studied Chinese in Leiden, Peking and Taipei. Won last year’s Con-Science Award at DOCVILLE with the film Rainmakers and is selected this year for the international selection with The Last Frontier.

ALEXANDER WEISS (BE) has carved out an impressive career in the cultural and audiovisual sector. He has worked for RTBF, KunstenfestivaldesArts and Wajnbrosse Productions. Artistic director of the Brussels-based docu mentary festival Filmer à Tout Prix since 2010.
ALEXANDER WEISS (BE) bouwde een hele carrière op in de culturele en audiovisuele sector, zo was hij actief bij RTBF, Kunstenfestivaldesarts en Wajnbrosse productions. Is sinds 2010 artistiek directeur van het documentaire festival Fil mer à Tout Prix in Brussel.
RUDI VRANCKX (BE) has been working with the public broadcasting company VRT since 1988 as a journalist and documentary filmmaker specialized in correspondence in conflict areas. In 2010 he directed Bonjour Congo, a travel coverage on the Belgian ex-colony, in 2011 The Curse of Osama he investigated the changed world after 9/11.
RUDI VRANCKX (BE) werkt sinds 1988 als journalist en documentairemaker voor VRT waar hij zich specialiseerde in buitenlandse verslaggeving in conflictgebieden. In 2010 maakte hij Bonjour Congo, een 7-delige reisreportage over de Belgische oud-kolonie, in 2011 onderzocht hij in De Vloek van Osama hoe de wereld veranderde na de aanslagen van 9/11.

EN If you would dig a tunnel that went straight through the planet all the way to the other side, where would you end up? In many cases probably somewhere in the ocean, but a small number of places are each other’s exact geographic antipodes. The idea is as simple as it is brilliant. ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! takes its viewers on a poetic journey in which breathtaking landscapes, worldly contrasts and surprising similarities set the mood. Two customs officers in Argentina versus the bustling city life of Shanghai, a Hawaiian volcano versus a village in Botswana. A playful camera and ditto editing reinforce the director’s peculiar view on life on our planet. NL Waar kom je uit als je een tunnel zou graven dwars door de aarde? Meestal beland je in zee, maar enkele zeldzame plekken zijn elkaars geografische ‘antipoden’. Vanuit dit even eenvoudig als geniaal idee neemt ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! de kijker mee op een poëtische reis waarin adembenemende landschappen, wereldlijke contrasten en verrassende gelijkenissen de sfeer zetten. Twee tolbeambten in Argentinië versus het broeiende stadsleven van Shanghai, een vulkaan in Hawaï versus een dorp in Botswana. Met speelse montage en camera bekrachtigt de regisseur het vreemde wereldbeeld.

EN Dutchman Anton Corbijn gained worldwide fame as a photographer and music video director for bands such as U2 and Depeche Mode. Recently he has been exploring the movie making business by shooting the Ian Curtis film Control as well as The American starring George Clooney. Klaartje Quirijns followed Corbijn’s trail for over three years. The result is an extremely intimate portrayal in which the director sets out to find the source and the meaning of recurring themes in his work: sacrifice, fame, religion and death. A portrait that gets under your skin. EN For some years now, the capitalist system as we know it has been battling one crisis after another. Going back to a previous system is out of the question. There is no time to lose: we urgently have to figure out how to reform the Western economy. With the help of 23 of the world’s brightest minds Four Horsemen sets out to discover the root cause of the current apocalypse. What are the fundamen tal flaws in our system? And what are the solutions for our world’s deplorable state? As one of the film’s speakers states: “what was created by people can also be changed by people.” NL Het kapitalistisch systeem zoals we het nu kennen, sukkelt al jaren van de ene crisis in de andere catastrofe. EN This remarkable film chronicles a violent feud between two rival Irish families of ‘travelers’. The conflict first started several decades ago and is literally taken outside. At regular intervals, members of both families face off in one on one bare knuckle fights. A referee oversees the illegal brawls. Director Ian Palmer fol lowed both families for twelve years and paints a staggering but at times comical portrait of the brutal, primitive fights and of the importance of family honor in this traditional community. NL Deze opmerkelijke film vertelt de kroniek van een gewelddadige vete tussen twee rivaliserende Ierse families van ‘travelers’. EN Ten applicants have two days to prove they deserve one specific job. What starts out as a straightforward job interview turns into a brutal test of professional skills and mental resilience. Roll play, tests, provocation: the applicants are thor oughly grilled, all in the name of work and finding the right man or woman for the job. Applying for a new job seems easy enough but this at times shocking docu mentary shows how the application process is slowly ridding itself of humanity. NL Tien sollicitanten krijgen twee dagen de tijd om zich te bewijzen voor die ene vacature. Wat begint als een eenvoudig sollicitatiegesprek wordt al snel een brutale test van professionele vaardigheden en mentale weerbaarheid. Rollenspel, capaci teitentests, provocatie, de kandidaten worden gegrild. Alles in naam van werk of de juiste man of vrouw voor de job. Solliciteren, het lijkt een evidentie maar deze bij momenten choquerende documentaire laat zien hoe beetje bij beetje de menselijk heid verdwijnt uit het sollicitatieproces.

EN In the early seventies, New York’s Columbia University started up a special experiment: scientists wanted to find out whether monkeys were capable of hu man forms of communication. A young chimp named Nim Chimpsky lived with a human family and grew up alongside human children. They were all fed, nur tured and raised identically. This film tells the revealing, funny but also unner ving story of this attempt to turn a monkey into a human being. Project NIM won the Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival and became a big hit on the international film festival circuit. The entire town was covered in nuclear fallout and listed as a no-go zone. 1400 villagers, forever displaced, have been given shelter in an aban doned school about 250 kilometers away. Their suffering is the starting point for this critical film about the true cost of nuclear energy. EN On the coast of northern Peru, an exotic branch of agriculture has sprung up: aspara gus farming. Glacier water is diverted from mountain streams to the parched desert soil of Trujillo so that the asparagus can grow. Peruvians aren’t fond of asparagus and the harvest is almost completely exported to richer countries in the North. In this documen tary we follow the production cycle at a local level and are given a look into the lives of the farmers and factory workers that are trying to survive on 2 to 5 US dollars a day. NL Aan de kuststreek in het Noorden van Peru leeft een ongewone landbouwtak op, de aspergeteelt. Gletsjerwater wordt afgeleid van bergriviertjes om de kurkdroge woestijngrond van Trujillo te irrigeren zodat de asperges kunnen groeien. Peruanen zelf zijn niet dol op asperges en de oogst wordt bijna uitsluitend geëxporteerd naar rijkere landen in het Noorden. In deze documentaire volgen we de productiecyclus op lokaal niveau en krijgen we een zicht op het leven van de boeren en fabrieksarbeiders die met 2 tot 5 dollar per dag proberen te overleven.

HIs son could have had the same career had he not had an accident that put him in a wheel chair. Dominique will never be the heir his father wanted him to be. The accident brought the family closer to their faith. NL ‘De Opvolger’ vertelt het verhaal van een vader en zoon, Raf en Dominique, en de relatie met hun passie: paardenrennen. Deneyer, one of the oldest funeral undertakers in Brussels, has been making a living out of death for over 40 years. His small office in the heart of the Marolles is packed with plastic flowers and yellowed photos. Here he receives his customers with both humor and professionalism. He has vis ited many homes, heard many stories and has seen much sadness, but F. Deneyer simply carries on, treating death as a part of life. NL De dood, we moeten ermee leven. Elke mens, elke cultuur heeft er een ander antwoord op. F. Deneyer, één van de oudste begrafenisondernemers van Brussel, leeft al meer dan 40 jaar van de dood. In zijn kleine kantoortje in het hartje van de Marollen, volgestouwd met plastic bloemen en vergeelde foto’s, ontvangt hij zijn klanten met de nodige humor en droge zakelijkheid. Despite the bad news, Lydia does not give in to sadness. She wants to live and dream. Little Heaven is a tough and touching but never heavy-handed portrait about vitality and the willingness to fight. One road tanker of pure water costs Nestlé only ten dollars. Once transferred into small plastic bottles, it is worth 50,000 dollars. The company slyly profits from the Western fixation on purity and food safety by pre senting bottled water as the only kind of “pure” water. Water, the blue gold, has turned into a billion dollar industry. Bottled Life poses the urgent ethical questions Nestlé seems to refuse to. NL Water is een basisbehoefte. A Finnish director goes in to investigate but is faced with a persistent and at times hallucinatory propaganda machine. A story about the environment turns into one about the omnipresent control of the Chinese state apparatus. Eames focuses not only on the creative genius of the pair, but also sheds a light on their personal lives. The couple’s relationship saw some pretty turbulent times. EN True artistic talent cannot be suppressed. Just look at the story of Iranian Akram, a girl who was married off to the authoritarian Heydar at the age of nine. It was only when she turned fifty that Akram coincidentally discovered her gift and love for painting, and since then she has been painting as if her life depends on it. When her son finds out about her ‘little hobby’, he puts together an exhibition in Paris. But in order to attend the opening, Akram must first get her husband’s permission. A charming and disarming portrait of a passionate artist, this film is also a tragicomic portrayal of a marriage based on Islamic values. NL Echt artistiek talent laat zich niet onderdrukken, zo bewijst het verhaal van de Iraanse Akram die op haar 9de werd uitgehuwelijkt aan de autoritaire Heydar. Op 50-jarige leeftijd ontdekt Akram per toeval haar talent en liefde voor de schilderkunst en sindsdien schildert ze alsof haar leven ervan af hangt. An honest look at an industry that is nothing like what pops up on our television screens in “Idols”. It may also be a peek at the stars of the (near) future. This film looks at the ‘Turku syndrome’ and follows a group of activists and squatters who stand up for what they believe in. Koyaanisqatsi is considered one of the most influential documentaries ever made. Philip Glass composed its soundtrack. The film premiered on April 28th, 1982 at the Santa Fé Film Festival. Exactly thirty years later, DOCVILLE is proud to present a must-attend screening of this all-time classic. EN The dramatic footage showing the implosion of the Pruitt-Igoe housing proj ects (captured in, among other films, Koyaanisqatsi) are part of our collective memory. At the time of its opening in 1956, the development was presented as the housing project of the future. Two decades later, however, nothing but ruins were left and the “poor man’s penthouse” was no more. Pruitt-Igoe became a symbol of the failure of social housing and urban planning. Using excellent his torical footage and thorough research director Chad Freidrichs challenges clichés and sets out to uncover the real reasons behind Pruitt-Igoe’s demise. NL De dramatische beelden van de implosie van het Pruitt-Igoe huizencomplex (vereeuwigd in onder meer Koyaanisqatsi) maken deel uit van het collectief geheugen. Bij de lancering in 1956 werd dit sociaal project omschreven als het woonproject van de toekomst, maar twee decennia later eindigde het ‘penthouse van de arme man’ in puin. EN Over the last couple of decades, the numbers of people with autism has in creased noticeably. In the United States, babies and toddlers are routinely tested for this disorder, which is mainly characterized by an inability to communicate. Louis Theroux travels to DLC Warren in New Jersey, an unusual school that proves a specialized approach really does pay off. He meets the pupils and learns about the way they perceive the world around them. But he also talks to their parents, to find out more about the huge impact it has had on their home life. In Amerika worden baby’s en peuters dan ook stelselmatig getest op deze aandoening, die vooral wordt gekenmerkt door een onvermogen om te communiceren. An increasing number of elderly people are confronted with demen tia. Some suffer from it themselves; others care for a partner who has the illness. Louis Theroux meets a few people who suffer from dementia and witnesses how it undermines the relationships with their loved ones and how the illness can radi cally change people’s personalities. EN In the nineties Louis Theroux made a portrait of the porn industry in San Fer nando Valley, California. He wanted to find out whether a job as a porn star was a man’s dream job, but also looked at the psychological effects of carrying out the most intimate form of human contact publicly. Fifteen years later Theroux returned to California to see what became of ‘his’ porn stars. He soon discovers that everything has since changed. This screening is followed by a Q&A session with Louis Theroux. NL In de jaren ’90 maakte Louis Theroux een portret van de porno-industrie in San Fernando Valley, Californië. EN The basin of the Omo River, in the south of Ethiopia, is home to the Mursi, a tribe known for the large round plates women place in their lower lips and for their impressive earrings. Every year hundreds of tourists eagerly photograph this “authentic” tribe. Posing for the camera has become their main source of income. In order to make more money, they con tinually make up new “costumes” that have no relation to their actual culture. This humor ous yet chilling film shows the destructive impact tourism has on traditional communities. NL In Ethiopië, in de vallei van de Omo rivier, wonen de Mursi, een stam bekend om de grote cirkelvormige platen die de vrouwen in hun lip aanbrengen en hun indrukwekkende oorbellen. Ieder jaren trekken honderden toeristen gretig foto’s van deze ‘authentieke’ stam. Poseren voor de camera is uitgegroeid tot de voornaamste bron van inkomsten voor de Mursi. En om die inkomsten op te drijven verzinnen ze telkens nieuwe ‘kostuums’ die niets meer te maken hebben met hun cultuur. EN This controversial short film, meant to raise awareness about the crimes of Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, became an unexpected internet sensation with over 100 million views on YouTube. The campaign aims to make Joseph Kony a household name in or der to speed up his international arrest. Though the campaign is backed up by media figures such as George Clooney and politicians including Barack Obama, the film has received criticism for its Western paternalistic tone. NL Deze controversiële kortfilm, die de misdaden van Oegandese guerrillaleider Joseph Kony de aandacht wil brengen, groeide in een mum van tijd uit tot een internethit met meer dan 100 miljoen views op YouTube. Het doel van de campagne is om Joseph Kony bekend te maken bij het grote publiek om zo zijn internationale aanhouding te bespoedigen. He is the topic of conversation, puts a smile on people’s faces and offers them comfort too. NL Negen levens door de ogen van een kat. Een grote grijze kater zit parmantig voor de ingang van het ziekenhuis. Een oude vrouw komt op hem af en haalt hem aan. Een lange man roept naar hem. Een klein meisje lokt hem met een snoepje. De kat is er elke dag, kijkt rustig om zich heen en knipoogt. Sinds hij kwam aanlopen is hij niet meer weg te denken bij het ziekenhuis. EN In 1991 the USSR collapsed in only a few days and was divided in several new inde pent countries. Now 20 years later a new generation resurrect, for who the iron curtain and the cold war are nothing but terms for history lessons. But at the same time some of the elder look back with melancholy at the old Soviet period. The Canvas-series Back in the USSR comes with a web app, that not only covers the four episodes, but also adds a bunch of extras in a handy thematical and geographical setting. NL In 1991 viel de Sovjet-Unie in enkele dagen uiteen in verschillende nieuwe onafhankelij ke landen. Nu, 20 jaar later, is er een generatie aan zet voor wie het ijzeren gordijnen en koude oorlogen schimmen uit de geschiedenis zijn. EN In this interactive webdocumentary we follow a grizzly bear. When the bear was a 3 year old cub she was given a camera around the neck. Since then it is possible to track her whole life in the park. The film portraits people’s interactions with animals in these times of networking, sattellites and surveillance cameras. Worldwide people can become part of the interactive environment and of the emotional story of Bear 71, through internet, smartphones or tablets. NL In deze interactieve webdocumentaire volgen we een grizzlybeer die op 3-jarige leeftijd een camera kreeg omgehangen. Sindsdien kan men haar hele leven in het park volgen op beeld. EN This awardwinning interactive webdocumentary reports on the daily life on both sides of the Palestinian-Israeli border. The filmmakers filmed 10 weeks of the every day life in Gaza en Sderot, two places hardly 3 kilometers away. Two places where violence, bomb ing and assualt are part of the daily routine. They tried to make a beautiful and humane portrait of a region dominated by an ongoing conflict. NL Deze bekroonde interactieve webdocumentaire doet verslag van het dagelijks leven aan beide kanten van de Palestijns-Israëlische grens. De makers filmden 10 weken lang het dagelijkse leven in Gaza en Sderot, twee plaatsen op nauwelijks 3 kilometer van elkaar. EN An interactive roadmovie through Fremont County, Colorado, because of its 14 prisons also better known as Prison Valley. Starting from the Riviera Motel the visitor embarks on a personal journey to the backgrounds of the prisonindustry, to meet several insiders: the sheriff, a journalist, an guard. But the visitor doesn’t travel alone: other visitors are always visible, and on certain points in the story he has access to ‘interactive zones’. NL Een interactieve roadmovie doorheen Fremont County, Colorado, dat met zijn 14 gevangenissen beter bekend is als Prison Valley. Vanuit de uitvalsbasis in het Riviera Motel reist de bezoeker door Prison Valley in een persoonlijke zoektocht naar de achtergronden van de gevangenisindustrie, om diverse betrokkenen te ontmoeten: de sheriff, een journalist, een gevangenisbewaarder. Maar hij is nooit alleen op zijn reis: de andere bezoekers zijn altijd zichtbaar, en op diverse punten in het verhaal heeft hij toegang tot ‘interactieve zones’.

EN This multimedial project draws a picture on the lost Canadian mining town Pine Point. The city was built in the sixties, but when resources ran out in the late eighties the mine had to shut down. And with that the town also perished. Michael Simons, who grew up near Pine Point, and Paul Shoebridge deliver a melancholic portrait full of memories and nostalgia, built on objects and photos. ABOUT LEUVEN
THE ROAD TO LEUVEN
Leuven is a relatively small city (100.000 inhabitants), 20 kilometers near Brussels. Leuven is widely known for two things: it harbours one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe. The K.U.Leuven was founded in 1425 and has more than 25.000 students today.
By plane Leuven is a 20 minute drive from the Brussels National Airport (15 minutes by train). The lowcost airline company, Ryanair, flies to Charleroi from 10 different cities. If you inform us about your flight and arrival/departure time, we make the necessary arrangements to pick you up at the airport.
Leuven is also the hometown of INBEV, the largest brewery in the world, famous for it’s beer Stella Artois (since 1366), one of the best known (and may we add: best tasting) beers. Leuven itself was founded in the 11th century and has a fabulous historic city centre (with the magnificent town hall) and a worldwide known Beguinage (officially recog nized as an UNESCO World Heritage site). Due to the creative input of students, it always stayed a vivid, young and creative environment. In a city where the historical buildings are only surpassed by the number of pubs and bars (following our last count:180, but it’s possible we’ve missed some) there is always something going on. Leuven harbours a series of interesting cultural organisations and events. Besides the DOCVILLE there’s also the International Arts Centre STUK (www.stuk.be), the M Museum, the local cultural center 30CC (www.30CC.be), the huge city rock festival Marktrock (nl.netlog.com/ Marktrock), The Afrika Film Festival (www.afrikafilmfestival.be), the club concerts of Het Depot (www.depot.be), the International Short Film Festival Leuven (www.shortfilmfestival.org) and so on.
By train In Brussels South trains arrive from every corner of Europe. If you are coming from London you can take the Eurostar. If you are coming from France, Germany or the Netherlands, you could take a train of the Thalys network. For international timetables, inform with our guest coordinator. Theroux’s work method has resulted in quite a few memorable scenes and movies. In his own words and with the aid of video fragments he will shed a light on his style, technique and vision.

Are you a documentary producer / director who wants to develop a multiplatform project? iDROPS and XO Labs UK are using a progressive, market-focused approach to hone and develop ideas, and to prepare producers to thrive in the converged media environment.
Ben je een documentaireproducer die een multiplatform project wil ontwikkelen? XO gebruikt een progressieve, marktgerichte aanpak om ideeën te ontwikkelen en aan te scherpen, en om producenten voor te bereiden om te gedijen in de convergerende mediaomgeving. Hier zal men geleid worden aan de hand van een ruwe set van methodologieën, ontworpen om je te doen begrijpen wat vereist is om een succesvol interactief documentaireproject te produceren. Hoe definieer je het begin, het midden en het einde van je project? Hoe test je de interactiviteit? Hoe weet je zeker dat wat je ontwerpt, een publiek aantrekt? En hoe en waarom zal jouw project een publiek bereiken? Dit zijn de vragen waarmee de deelnemers geconfronteerd zullen worden tijdens het XO DOX Development Lab.
We invite factual producers who want to develop multiplatform ideas to apply to the 3-day XODOX multiplatform development LAB (Hothouse). Here they will be guided to apply a robust set of metho dologies designed to get them to understand what it takes to produce a successful interactive documentary project. Practical and dynamic, the XODOX LAB will: -Deliver fresh thinking about interactivity through usercentred design processes -Promote understanding of the different skills required to produce transmedia projects -Train participants to express complicated transmedia concepts clearly and simply -Help define the look, feel and emotional resonance of a project across all of its platforms -Result in the creation of a pitch document to send to funders. By the end of this DEVELOPMENT LAB, producers will understand the crewing and timelines of a multiplatform production. They will know how to test the interactivity and how to make sure that what they design will attract an audience. They will know how to define the beginning, the middle and the end of their project and know how and why it will reach an audience.
