DEAR READERS,

hose chilly days that we so often yearn for in the heat of summer are finally here. The idea of warm blankets, hot drinks, and evenings by the fire beg for romance and weddings.

This issue we were led by the comforting concept of fall & winter layers. We envisioned thickets of lush evergreen, a fur coat overtop a wintery white gown, & rich blues layered with snow-like tulle. Combine these elements with the glow of sentimentality that all love stories share, and there you have the premise of Volume 7.

In each editorial shoot we worked to incorporate authentic meaningful items.

This came in the form of heirloom jewelry & accessories, a grandmother's name handwritten on an invitation suite, even a vial of sand as a prop that held special meaning to its owner. After all, items like these, which carry fond memories are forever a part of love & weddings.

As always, much of our joy and excitement for this issue stemmed from the generosity & talent of the vendors who worked alongside us. Every beautiful image in this issue is a sign of talent shared.

Create custom drink menus, table numbers, and guest favors to incorporate these unique details.

t all started in the summer of 2012. Abbie and Rory met at a friend’s pool party and hit it off. Although the two couldn’t have been more

opposite, they found themselves at ease around each other, no matter the circumstance. Abbie describes the bond she and Rory share as “natural and comfortable”.

After a couple of years, Abbie and Rory bought a home together. As Rory’s job sent him on occasional deployments, their home and their cherished time together was that much more special, and added an extra source of strength to their relationship. When spending time at home, their rescue pups Roxy and Gunner helped bring these two lovebirds even closer together.

The 2017 lunar eclipse provided the perfect landscape for a proposal.

Rory asked Abbie to spend the rest of their lives together, and she said yes. They celebrated with their friends and family at Abbie’s parents’ house before ending that life-changing night with a meal at Indochine.

On their wedding day, Abbie and Rory met each other on the beach in the quiet early morning fog. The forecast was calling for rain, and they decided to rearrange their original ceremony plans — but it was still nothing short of perfect.

After a lovely ceremony officiated by Abbie’s friend Rhea, they shared their first dance to Ray Lamontagne’s “You are the Best Thing”. Abbie says she “literally danced the night away”. The couple danced in newlyFall/Winter 2019-2020

wedded bliss to almost every song until it was time to wrap up the reception and begin the rest of their lives.

arah and Matt first crossed paths over a game of quarters at a party in

Washington DC, and haven’t been apart since. After a night hanging by themselves while the rest of their friends socialized, Sarah says “that was it!”

Years later, on their way to spend Thanksgiving with Sarah’s family here in Wilmington, Matt suggested they stop by Wrightsville Beach. They were walking on the beach when Matt stopped Sarah to

Matt and Sarah knew they didn’t want a traditional wedding.

The Annex at the Brooklyn Arts Center was the perfect size for the ceremony, where the couple invited their families and closest friends to keep the experience personal, warm, and romantic. They did opt for a first look, and Sarah says that was her favorite part about the day: “It's something you dream about, seeing his face seeing you in your dress for the first time. It was really sweet and special.”

While it was a winter wedding, the Brantleys stayed away from a themed soiree. After seeing photos of a groom in a dark green tux, Matt decided on his color scheme, and Sarah built hers from there: warm neutrals and pinks, plums, dark reds, with jewel-toned velvet furniture and unique cocktails to bring more of their relationship’s flair to the evening.

lthough they met in high school, Ashley and Kayleigh didn’t know they were interested in each other until senior year of

college. They reunited when they were both in Wilmington during spring break and began their story. “Once Kayleigh graduated, she took a leap and moved to Asheville to be with me,” says Ashley.

Five years after that spring break, Ashley was relaxing on her parents’ back porch when Kayleigh surprised her, “telling me how thankful she was for me, how much she loved me, and ultimately she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me.” Kayleigh gave Ashley a ring she’d been hiding on her own finger — a beautiful piece designed just for her. She was dazed, but gave an enthusiastic “YES!” when she realized the moment wasn’t a dream.

Kayleigh and Ashley were lucky to be the first couple to hold their ceremony outdoors at Wrightsville Manor. During their first look, the pair met in private to share sweet words and calm their nerves before the ceremony. They met each other at the fountain in the center of the courtyard, and were married by a close friend who got ordained just for the occasion.

The brides chose a muted, natural color palate for their special day. Since the ceremony and dinner were outdoors, they worked with the landscape, bringing in eucalyptus and unfinished wood.

With inspiration from Pinterest, they accented with mixed metals, velvety blues, and tiny bits of poetry. After their upbeat first dance to “Gimme Little Sign” by Brenton Wood, they toasted and partied into the night with their families and friends.
