Our Sustainability Commitment
Actions speak louder than words. That’s why Panda doesn’t just talk about sustainability. We do it. More than just a tick-box exercise, this means putting the environment at the heart of everything we do. Leading the way in sustainable waste management solutions, Panda is committed to shaping the best-possible future for our families and friends.
Your Waste
At the centre of the circular economy, Panda processes and manages three million tonnes of ‘waste’ a year. Here’s how, we:
- Recycle and repurpose waste
- Compost biodegradable waste
- Reuse and recover steel and wood
- ’Wash-and-return’ plastic packaging
Just because we can’t reuse, recycle, or repurpose it, it doesn’t mean we send it to landfill. Instead, we turn non-recyclable items, food waste and biogas into:
- Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)
- Renewable energy
- Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF)
Did you know Panda brought in Ireland’s first ever fully electric, zero emission refuse collection vehicles (eRCV)? We now have 5 electric bin trucks in our fleet, with plans to grow this number. We installed solar panels to power our recycling facility (Irelands largest household recycling facility) in Ballymount, which also charges our electric vehicles, making the entire process of collecting and recycling waste completely carbon-free. We are also installing solar panels in many other areas of our business. In addition, we introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles to our fleet. As CNG has lower emissions than diesel making it the more sustainable alternative.
