The centre is owned and operated by local Victoria Habraken, who has lived in the Forster Tuncurry area for over 40 years. Victoria is a qualified teacher and has had experience teaching both as a full-time teacher and more recently as a tutor teaching primary and secondary students. choosing child care At this time of the year we receive many visits from parents looking at our service. We welcome these visits and love to show people around and talk about what makes Blossoms a special place. I like to be upfront about us - we enjoy children being involved in play, they often get very dirty, we like to wear raincoats and gumboots when it rains, our older children make decisions about safe climbing trees, they know what you can do with sticks and make their own rules about safe wrestling on our wrestling mat. Sometimes these conversations meet with disapproval, and that’s OK. Parents need to find the right fit for their child and their values. We are lucky in our area that we have a number of quality child care services that have their own personalities. I of course love it when parents look and see how happy and engaged our children are and often reflect on the things they liked to do in their own childhood. Although we may be different, all services have strict guidelines that we need to follow. Blossoms recently passed all seven areas of our validation (accreditation) system. This means that even though we have some individual ideas of how children learn best within the early childhood period, we still meet all the outcomes that are set by the Government. Over a two day period our policies, procedures as well as our teaching was assessed closely by a validator, who spent both time in the rooms and playgrounds as well as speaking with staff and myself. Every early childhood service has to undertake this procedures; parents can ask to see a copy of the validation report as well as view their ratings.
