Fahran Nicole Russell In my opinion, culture shapes architecture, the uniqueness of each culture must be maintained regardless of the problem. And i believe all problem solving through architecture that involves natural elements and maintains them is the best solution. therefore I tried to apply these principles in this design project.

This design project is the 6th architectural design studio assignment that gives students flexibility in choosing the type of design project, but still resolves problems both in the surrounding environment and on a broader scale through architectural design.

In this project, the authors design a resort building located in a natural tourism area, which can present a sustainable design with nature.

Introduction

Covid-19 is still a hot topic to be discussed in various scientific aspects, as well as in planning and design in the field of architectural science.

On the other hand, with the condition of all corners of the earth being affected by Covid-19, apart from the real impact of the health sector, the economic sector was also quite severely affected. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development or OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) estimates that Covid-19 will cause the global economy to experience a decline in growth to the remaining 2.4 percent in 2020, down from the previous projection of 2.9 percent.

Likewise, the impact that will be experienced by Indonesia, the report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) this August stated that Indonesia’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2020 was minus 5.32 percent. Previously, in the first quarter of 2020, BPS reported that Indonesia’s economic growth only grew 2.97 percent, falling far from the 5.02 percent growth in the same period in 2019. At the same time, prepare to recover and improve the economy again while tackling Covid -19 should be planned from now on, the government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic

of Indonesia (Kemenparekraf RI) is accelerating the recovery process in the tourism sector. One of them is by inviting industry circles to tighten health protocols as a ‘new norm’ in the tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic is over, as well as repairing and planning the construction of tourism supporting buildings while still implementing health protocols in the design results.

Apart from the problems related to Covid-19, tourism in Indonesia also has several problems, where many tourist objects in Indonesia adopt themes such as those from outside countries.

Like losing identity with one’s own culture. Even though Indonesian culture is no less interesting than foreign cultures, Indonesian culture is also very diverse and has uniqueness in each of these differences. By using the characteristics of regional culture at the location of these tourist objects, later it will add to the love of the community for the culture of the nation and region. So that Indonesia does not lose its identity in front of foreign nations.

Issue Economic Recovery The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact in several fields, one of which is the economy. The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is accelerating the process of economic recovery in the post-pandemic tourism sector.

Psycological Post-pandemic The Covid-19 pandemic affects a person’s psychological state, this is often seen with high community awareness of crowded places. As a result of this pandemic, everyone’s boundaries will increase and people tend to avoid crowds. However On the other hand, people’s need for refreshment from their lives is also increasing.

Local Pride Many tourist objects in Indonesia adopt themes such as those in foreign countries. It is like losing their identity to their own culture, even though Indonesian culture is no less interesting than foreign culture, and Indonesian culture is also very diverse with uniqueness in every difference.

Neo-vernacular Architecture Neo Vernacular architecture is one of the ideologies or streams that developed in the Post Modern era, namely the flow of architecture that emerged in the mid1960s, Post Modern was born because in the modern era, there were protests from architects against patterns that seemed monotonous (box-shaped buildings -box).

Neo-vernacular architecture, not only applies physical elements that are applied in modern forms but also non-physical elements such as culture, mindset, belief, layout, religion and others.

Building is an artistic culture consisting in the repetition of a limited number of types and in their adaptation to local climates, materials and customs. (Leon Krier, 1971).

Climatology The area of ​​Gunung Kidul Regency is an area with a tropical monsoon climate. The average rainfall in 2010 was 1,954.43 mm / year with the average number of rainy days 130 days per year. The average daily temperature is 27.7 ° C, the minimum temperature is 23.2 ° C and the maximum temperature is 32.4 ° C. Site Analysis

Sun Path This resort has a vocal point towards the sea, so part of the building mass will be oriented facing the sea which makes the building facing west - southwest and allows the building to be exposed to continuous sunlight and also facing glare reflected from the sea.

Wind Direction On the site, the wind blows from 2 directions at different times, during the day the wind blows slowly from the land to the sea and blows hard at night from the sea.

Access The main access to the site is via the Ngedan Beach Road. to enter the site accessible via the front side of the site - northeast. On the right and left of the site there are tourist beaches, which is ‘Ngedan’ Beach and ‘Pringjono’ Beach that can potentially be given access to from the site.

Views There are 3 vocal points on the site, namely south to Indian Ocean, east to ‘Pringjono’ Beach, and west to ‘Ngedan’ Beach. Meanwhile on the north side there are only grasslands that are less attractive view.

With the concept of combining the luxury of a typical Javanese house and the beauty of the wild, Ndekem resort aims to restore Javanese cultural identity in the diversity of Indonesian cultures to all the adventurers who stop by.

Main Hall & Management Office

Agrapana Main Hall is the main gate for visitors before entering the ‘Ndekem resort’ area. The large Pendhopo in the middle of the area gives the impression of the grandeur and symbolization of mountains and nature, making the visitor ready to be side by side with nature while staying.

Agrapana Main Hall this area consists of a reception hall and a management office as well as a bale. Located close to the drop off, Agrapada Main Hall is visible from the front.

Arnawarna cottage is a family cottage located in the southernmost area of ​​‘Ndekem resort’ directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean and the horizon.
