The Jacksonville-based financial institution bought the block comprising the 76 S. Laura St. VyStar Tower, the 100 W. Bay St. building and a parking structure and is reconstructing the breezeway between them. Renderings show the breezeway from West Bay Street through to Independent Drive with planters, sidewalk, hardscape space and an outdoor seating area. The seating will tie in to The Bread & Board, which is buildingout a restaurant and food marketplace on the ground floor of the 100 W. Bay St. building. VyStar said previously it anticipates opening the breezeway project by mid-2021. Sandy Baker, vice president of communications and public relations, said by email Aug. 31 that construction should start in the fourth quarter this year. Dana B. Kenyon Co. is the contractor. RS&H Inc. is the architect, and Universal Engineering Sciences is providing code compliance review Work is underway to prepare for construction. The $31.1 million construction project is underway at 225 N. Pearl St.
Ryan Companies US Inc. applied to the city Dec. 7 for building permit review to develop the JEA headquarters Downtown at a construction cost of almost $31.1 million. Minneapolis-based Ryan owns the 1.54-acre site at 225 N. Pearl St. Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. is the civil engineer. Ryan A+E Inc. is the architect and interior designer. The building is designed as 162,741 square feet among seven occupiable floors and the penthouse mechanical level, so it is listed as eight stories. Ryan broke ground on the project Oct. 22 after beginning site work in August. In June, the Downtown Development Review Board approved JEA’s scaleddown, lower-cost design for the city-
Construction permit issued for The Doro apartments The city issued a permit Dec. 8 for Rise: A Real Estate Company to build The Doro apartments at 960 E. Adams St. at a construction cost of almost $35.56 million. Through Jacksonville Properties I LLC, Rise intends to develop the 247-unit, five-story building. On Dec. 4, the city issued a permit for Rise to build the parking deck, which is a seven-level, 284-space garage with rooftop amenities, at a cost of almost $10.4 million. The Dec. 8 apartment permit clears the way for the city to approve demolition of the George Doro Fixture Co. warehouses on the site.
