seeks an administrative deviation from the city’s zoning code, involving the landscape buffer and setback, for the location. Spokeswoman Megan Shannon said RaceTrac did not have a timeline for the site but said it would be one of its newer store prototypes. That means it will feature a Swirl World frozen dessert station with up to 10 flavors and 41 toppings; a large coffee area; more seating; free Wi-Fi; and more lighting in the store and parking lot. The city also issued a mobility fee calculation certificate for RaceTrac to develop a 5,411-square-foot gas station and convenience store with 20 vehicle fueling positions at 5221 University Blvd. W., at Richard Street. Theodore “Ted” Bundy was executed 30 years ago after being convicted of murdering two young women in Tallahassee and kidnapping and murdering a 12-year-old girl in Lake City. Two of the law enforcement officials who helped usher Bundy to the state’s electric chair in 1989 were the keynote speakers last week at the Jacksonville Bar Association’s membership meeting. Before he was executed, Bundy confessed to 30 murders in a cross-country spree that stretched from Washington State, Utah and Colorado to Florida and lasted nearly five years. “Thankfully, Bundy was a once-in-a-lifetime problem,” said George Dekle Sr., a retired 3rd Judicial Circuit assistant state attorney who prosecuted Bundy for the kidnapping and first-degree murder of 12-yearold Kimberly Leach in Lake City. It was Dekle’s first murder prosecution. A professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law after he retired from state service, he’s the author of “The Last Murder: The Investigation, Prosecution and Execution of Ted Bundy.” The book recounts the on-thejob training Dekle received as a young assistant state attorney while preparing for and trying the case that he described as comparable to the Lindbergh kidnapping

RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. is moving forward with plans for three locations, including one at the site of the former Physicians Medical Center in Mandarin at San Jose Boulevard and Pall Mall Drive. The 7,800-square-foot building at 9826 San Jose Blvd. was developed in 1994 and has been Hops Grill & Brewing and Cross Creek Steakhouse. Build-out was approved in 2008 for Physicians Medical Center Inc. and the structure served most recently as an urgent care center. The site originally was built for Pasta Market and was damaged by fire before being rebuilt for Hops. The city calculated a mobility fee of $166,960 to mitigate the traffic impact of a 5,500-square-foot RaceTrac with 16 vehicle fueling positions. The property owner is 9826 San Jose LLC. In addition, RaceTrac Petroleum

Panera to open at Nocatee Town Center The PARC Group and Regency Centers announced Panera Bread will open late this year in Nocatee Town Center. “The all-day café is a use that isn’t currently offered in the community, and we are happy to have landed a best-in-breed operator,” said Patrick McKinley, Regency Centers vice president and market officer. The location will be north of Daily’s and south of Nocatee Parkway, off Crosswater Parkway. The permit application filed with the St. Johns River Water Management District shows Panera Bread at southwest Crosswater Parkway and Village Lake Drive.
