The former Jacksonville Art Museum in Midtown Centre is designed to become a health care innovation center. Dr. Ashraf Affan, founder and president of Angel Kids Pediatrics, bought the property at 4160 Boulevard Center Drive in Midtown Centre on Dec. 4. Affan envisions the building’s open floor plan as ideal for the planned “think tank” that he has not named. He sees the closed museum as ideal for a collaborative space to promote health care in a value-based model, which looks at the outcomes and welfare of the community beyond the walls of the clinic. Affan wants the center to be available for providers, SEE MUSEUM, PAGE 3
Dr. Ashraf Affan, founder of Angel Kids Pediatrics, operates six clinics in Jacksonville with a seventh planned for North Jacksonville.
Potter’s House Soul Food Bistro II intends to move from its East Arlington location at Kernan and Atlantic boulevards to Regency Park in the former Outback Steakhouse. Angel McLaughlin, chief strategy officer of The Potter’s House International Ministries, said the lease was up at 11876 Atlantic Blvd. Soul Food Bistro opened there Jan. 1, 2013, as the second location for the Potter’s House restaurant. McLaughlin said owners hope to open the new location in the next few months at 9400 Atlantic Blvd. Brixmor Property Group, the Regency Park landlord, lists the restaurant as the tenant of almost 7,800 square feet at the former Outback space. Outback closed there in late 2016. The city is reviewing a permit application for Covenant Contracting Co. Inc. to renovate the space at a cost of $55,000. Soul Food Bistro opened SEE MATHIS, PAGE 2
StretchLab enters Jacksonville The StretchLab fitness franchise said it plans to open three studios in Jacksonville. The company says “deep stretching is scientifically proven to be one of the most effective ways to decrease pain, lower risk of injury and provide people the ability to perform better at work, in the gym and in everyday life.” The first studio, owned by Aaron and Tricia Novak, is planned to open in February at 13475 Atlantic Blvd. in the Harbour Village Shopping Plaza.
