Say "I Do" Nestled in the heart of Wahpeton, ND, this venue stands as a testament to timeless interior and culinary experience. Once a historic landmark, this remarkable space has been restored to a restaurant and event venue, pairing old world charm seamlessly with modern sophistication. Locally owned, City Brew Hall prides itself on a reputation for serving delectable dishes, all set within an interior that is nothing short of breathtaking. For couples seeking a venue that promises an unforgettable experience, City Brew Hall waits with open arms, inviting you to make memories that will last a lifetime—see for yourself!

ity Brew Hall's historic building was once home to the City Hall offices for the city of Wahpeton. In 2018, the owners renovated the space to create a 150-person restaurant and 300-person event venue, donning exposed brick and gorgeous, towering windows. City Brew's space showcases vintage elegance with contemporary finesse.

Food

It's not the space alone that brings couple after couple through the doors of City Brew. The restaurant offers a made-from-scratch gastropub menu—or, bar food with a twist! The event center offers a menu from Brew Catering, a sister company, where the chef-driven team prepares made-from-scratch meals that not only taste good but have a focus on beautiful plating as well. To arrange the day to be as perfect as it can be, all couples hosting their special day at City Brew Hall can invite a few guests to a big group tasting to try multiple meal options, appetizers, and wine and cocktails. Around every corner, you'll find a photo opportunity, your only limit is yourself (or, your photographer) when it comes to creative and beautiful photos at City Brew Hall. 14 | 2023 |

Interior

Set against the canvas of a photographer's dream, the venue boasts an array of picturesque spots that promise unforgettable memories. The event venue itself is a beautiful result of vintage aesthetics and contemporary designs with its exposed brick walls, polished wood floors, and grand floor-to-ceiling windows that allow a cascade of natural light to flood in. Venturing into the lounge, you're greeted with unique lighting, setting the mood just right for those candid shots. The Chambers, a dedicated bridal suite, showcases striking blackboard and batten walls, a backdrop that accentuates bridal dresses in contrast. And, adding to the venue's historic charm, is the original stairway, complete with its vintage banister—a perfect setting for grand, cascading shots.

The Chambers space is unique in and of itself. This bridal suite area was originally the building's vault. Now, with gorgeous mirrors and sconce lighting, The Chambers holds up to 24 for a seated meal but can be rearranged for the perfect bridal party!

The charm doesn’t stop indoors; the exterior of the historic building displays multiple sections of both exposed and elegantly painted brick, each serving as a stunning scene for those looking for a blend of rustic and modern. Additionally, various nooks and corners adorned with fun wallpaper, quirky light fixtures, and intricate wall decor ensure that every photo captured here is a piece of art to tell a couple's unique story.

Details

From The Chambers for the bridal party's needs and the restaurant and bar area reserved for the groom's party, the entirety of City Brew Hall becomes your playground for your entire special day. The celebration with your guests can offer just as a unique experience as well. The stunning patio features a pergola, cafe lights, and a gas fireplace, as well as a charming "bubbly tailer"—a retrofitted camper with a small window to pass out bubbly or hot cocoa. The venue doesn’t just provide a breathtaking backdrop for your wedding but a trove of décor essentials to dress your special day, in fact, they also have an entire room dedicated to their rentable collection tailored to make your event memorable. From a lush greenery wall that adds an earthy touch, to three distinctive arches that can stand as focal points for your vows, City Brew has taken care to 15

What can I say? I love weddings!" Sanctuary Events Center Partner & Director of Sales, Kayla Cash and her team have completed over 1,400 weddings in the last nine years, and she still enjoys them as if it’s her first season. She really has “seen it all” when it comes to weddings in the Fargo-Moorhead area. It all started when she was a bride in 2014, and as she was going through the wedding planning process, she ended up becoming an Event Coordinator/Director of Sales at her wedding venue. Having firsthand knowledge as a bride, she knew exactly what each couple was going through as they planned their big day and she dove right into the wedding industry and never looked back. Her passion grew over the years, and now, as a partner at three of the region’s top wedding venues, she takes great pride in what their management teams have created at each venue. They offer full-service weddings with an unforgettable fivestar experience for all of their wedding couples and their guests. 24 | 2023 |

All three unique venues offer allinclusive wedding packages ranging from $2,000-$8,000. Each venue has its own charm, yet all are tied together with their attention to detail and overall venue design.

Sanctuary Events Center is a

full-service wedding venue located in downtown Fargo. This one-of-akind venue offers state-of-the-art technology and an all-inclusive experience for weddings. The commitment to excellence is evident through the many awards they’ve received including “Best Wedding Venue” from the Best of the Red River Valley in addition to “Best Wedding Reception/Event Facility” by Locals Love Us! Typically most weddings range from 150-325 guests, and a large majority of wedding groups host their full ceremony, dinner and dance on site. From the stunning architecture to the traditional vibes and the impeccable service, this venue has set the bar for excellence in this region.

After they realized there was a need for additional unique event space in the Fargo-Moorhead area, they opened RiverHaven Events Center in downtown Moorhead. Many know this venue as the former “Usher’s House” restaurant, a gorgeous stone building located along the Red River. Its large windows overlooking the river and gorgeous landscape create a unique ceremony and reception experience unlike any other in this area. RiverHaven specializes in weddings of 100-200 guests and offers a full-service experience for all couples. The outdoor patio with scenic views is perfect for wedding photos, social hour and cozying up to the firepit during your wedding reception.

Dan Francis Photography

Their most recent project has been transforming a former bar/steakhouse in Valley City, ND into a premier venue. They found that many couples in rural communities are limited when it comes to venue options that offer the full-service experience with an elegant venue to celebrate their special day. Kayla saw a huge need for event space in the community she grew up in and was excited to bring an upscale venue experience to her hometown called The Reserve at Woodland. This venue features four acres of gorgeous views overlooking the Sheyenne River Valley. The overall theme and style of this venue mirrors Sanctuary and RiverHaven, from the stunning chandeliers and exquisite ceiling architecture to the polished concrete floors. The Reserve is perfect for weddings of up to 300 guests and offers the same full-service experience with in-house food and beverage services. Whether you’re interested in Sanctuary, RiverHaven, or The Reserve at Woodland, Kayla Cash would be honored to help you plan your dream wedding at one of her venues. Her mission statement is to provide exceptional facilities and an outstanding customer experience. Cash and her team create unique and memorable moments through creative planning and execution, with commitment and integrity. They look forward to meeting you and showing you all that they have to offer for your special day!

Revel Woods Photo owner and lead photographer Kaitlyn Kiedrowski started her photography business in 2017 and has since grown into one of Fargo-Moorhead’s top wedding photographer choices. Her love for capturing exceptional photos, meeting new people, and engaging in the community led her to photograph families, high school seniors, and now, she is fully engrossed in the wedding industry. The name Revel Woods comes from her deep admiration and joy for nature, as revel means “to take delight in.” Kaitlyn graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelors in Environmental Studies and Political Science. Initially, she had other career plans in mind, but her photography business was doing so well that she decided to go full-time with Revel Woods Photo. “It was truly a faithbased jump knowing that I wasn’t using my degree, but instead pursuing a creative hobby I had enjoyed over the years,” she said. “I had been growing the business all throughout college because it was a source of joy and income for me, but when it came time to find a degree-related job after graduation, I couldn’t let go of the business because of how much love I had received from it, and how much love I had poured into it over the years. It just felt like the right decision and I felt called to continue serving my clients, with the gift of a creative eye I’ve been given.”

One of the toughest decisions for wedding parties can be choosing the right photographer to document their special day. Though the photography industry is plentiful, there are many different styles, experience levels, and price points in the market. With over six years in the industry and a lot of unique benefits to her services, Revel Woods has proven to be a name that catches attention—and for good reason; Kaitlyn is setting a new standard in the wedding photography industry with her services, workflows, and perks.

Inside the guide, she gives estimates on how much time each part of your day will take, example timelines, checklists to help you remember what is important, recommendations for other vendors, and more! 37

Kaitlyn includes engagement sessions in her wedding packages for clients!

“Choosing a photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make—I will always be your friend first, and your photographer second,” Kaitlyn said. She creates countless guides for them to feel prepared and knowledgeable about what they can expect for their engagement photos, for the time leading up to their wedding day, their actual wedding day, and even after they say “I do.” As a photographer for the past six-plus years, Kaitlyn has learned that there is so much more to the job than just taking beautiful photos for her clients. “When you book with me, you are not just booking a photographer, you are booking someone who is fully invested in you and your wedding day,” she said. “I find so much joy in the whole wedding planning process and have noticed how much of a difference it makes when my clients and I have gotten the chance to actually get to know one another. I always tell my clients, ‘If you are looking for someone who cares as much as you do, you are in the right place.’”

One example of how Kaitlyn has invested in her photography business and expertise is by attending photography retreats all over the country. She enjoyed attending them so much that she decided to start another business actually hosting them with one of her photographer friends, Olivia Abraham. Together, they started a photography retreat business, Revel & Grace, in 2022 and have since hosted two large retreats in Phoenix and San Francisco. This fall, they are hosting their third, largest retreat yet in Charleston, South Carolina. “Our retreats are such a joy to host, as we have photographers fly in from all over the country for a week of shooting, education, relaxation, and time for community,” Kaitlyn said. “While it takes Olivia and I months to dream, coordinate, and plan the whole week, we love serving the photographers who join us, and have so much fun getting to know new photographer friends. The relationships we have built through Revel & Grace have truly changed our lives.”

Another trendsetting aspect of Revel Woods Photo is that she offers travel packages for destination weddings and sessions. Some of Kaitlyn’s favorite places she has flown for her clients include Cancún, New Hampshire, Seattle, New York City, and San Diego. “Traveling continuously opens my eyes to new perspectives and I always come home feeling refreshed and inspired, ready for my next adventure,” she said. 41

FA R G O W E D D I N G T U R N S I N T O D E S T I N AT I O N WEDDING Earlier in 2023, Kaitlyn had the opportunity to capture the wedding of Victoria and Caleb Horn. As most of her clients do, the Horns had booked over a year in advance and shared details about the wedding they were planning to have in Fargo. As the wedding day approached, the Horns had changed their minds and now wanted to do a destination wedding in Mexico. Luckily they kept their same date, so Kaitlyn was still able to be their photographer and capture their day. “Planning a wedding includes making so many decisions, and I am here to remind you that it is okay to change your mind and that you should follow your heart for what you want your wedding day to look like,” she said. “Choose a location that feels true to you, choose the colors you’ve always dreamed of, and book the vendors that you feel a connection with.” Planning a wedding from afar can be a whole task in itself, but Kaitlyn noted that when you book vendors that take care of you and have your best interest in mind, this is when the magic happens. Kaitlyn is always open to communication with other vendors she’s working with for weddings and knows how important the planning process is. This destination wedding in Mexico was her first outof-country wedding, and she knew she had to be extra prepared as this meant so many new factors coming into play. Kaitlyn does her research ahead of time and makes sure she has all of the information she needs. She also met with the wedding coordinator to make sure that everything on her timeline lined up with theirs, and planned to fly in early to account for possible travel delays as well as scouting the venue for the best photo opportunities. “This all relates to any wedding,” she said. “As a photographer, I need to be prepared for whatever comes my way on a wedding day. I always consider what the weather is going to be like if we need to make an alternative plan and what gear I need to bring to best serve my clients. The more prepared your vendors are, the better. Make sure you have full trust in the ones you book because it pays off in the long run, and they will take care of you.” 42 | 2023 |

Meet Bronson James Winkler—you can call him BJ The DJ, LeBronson, Nosnorb, etc. Thunder & Lightning was founded in 2012 during Bronson’s senior year of high school. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to my friend and former Agriculture Education teacher Stephen Funk, because without him the business never would’ve been started—Stephen was retiring his DJ business, so he offered to sell me his equipment and teach me fundamentals of DJ’ing and Emceeing a wedding—I still follow these fundamentals today,” Bronson said. But Thunder & Lightning isn’t just a one-man show. Bronson’s sister, Maddie, joined the set a few years ago and became an instant rockstar at DJing and Emceeing. With a combined 15 years in the DJ industry and over 100 weddings under their belts, suffice to say the brother-sister duo specializes in weddings—more specifically, DJ’ing, and Emceeing, and they event have a photo booth, which is one of their unique offerings. “We have music playing as our client’s guests arrive and we play until the venue kicks us out!”

Thunder & Lightning offers photo booths, a trending add-on feature to their wedding packages—and also a huge hit with all wedding guests.

Anytime Bronson and Maddie DJ a wedding, it is their utmost goal to make sure the dance is enjoyed by everyone in the room. “If there’s a certain polka that Grandma Bernice needs to hear to shake what God gave her—we will have it! If there’s a family tradition to dance to a certain song we will play it. We cater our music selection to the older generation at the beginning of the dance because typically they leave earlier than the young go-hards in attendance,” they said. “We use our years of experience to play the right tunes at the right times to keep the dancefloor as full as possible throughout the entire night.” Being avid social butterflies, Bronson and Maddie have always loved attending weddings. What fuels their passion for DJ’ing the most is the rewarding feeling of playing an absolute bop that people scream at the top of their lungs and dance the night away to. Being able to provide lifelong memories for their clients (and their clients’ guests) is the reason why they love what they do. With Thunder and Lightning, you will always have a personalized experience. From booking to pricing to check-ins as well as the big day, you’ll work directly with Bronson and Maddie—no middleman. “As a small business, reputation and happy customers are everything to us,” they said. “You’ll feel like we are part of your wedding dance with the energy and interaction with your crowd. We are truly passionate about making sure that your dance is exactly what you want it to be.” 47

D E S T I N AT I O N W E D D I N G IN OMAHA Earlier this fall, Thunder & Lightning DJ’d a wedding in Omaha. Maddie was the star of the Thunder & Lightning duo for this wedding. As she does for every wedding, she visited the venue a day early to ensure space requirements were met, to get a feel for the acoustics of the venue, and to get acquainted with the venue staff and any other vendors in attendance. Thunder & Lightning met with the Bride and Groom virtually a few weeks before the wedding to go through their comprehensive list of questions that outline all the particulars of the reception. These questions are designed to make each wedding a personalized experience for the clients. “We always encourage clients to take mental notes of things they like and things they dislike, so that we can do things exactly how they want,” they said.

Did you know?

Bronson trusts his recommended vendors so much that he’s hiring almost all of them for his upcoming wedding!

During the meeting, Maddie explained the Scavenger hunt game to them, a trending wedding game that has proven to be a big hit. The couple went ahead with it and were thrilled with their decision as it was an absolute hit at the wedding; the entire crowd was laughing and the wedding party made it a blast for all. “The area where we truly excel is the wedding dance,” Maddie said. “For this wedding, I was fortunate enough to have an extremely fun group that packed the dance floor all night long. From start to finish, I was behind the DJ booth dancing and talking with the crowd to keep everyone pumped up.” Golden hour photos have also become a wedding trend, and Thunder & Lightning help allocate time for those photographic moments by properly communicating with the photographers and making it seamless for the bride and groom to step away, while Bronson and Maddie continue to entertain their guests and make it seem as though the evening hasn’t skipped a beat. “After the wedding, the bride and groom said it was the best dance ever and they were so happy that I was able to make it,” Maddie shared. “The Father of the bride came up to me three times throughout the night to express his gratitude. By the third time, he said, ‘I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but you really know how to work a crowd.’”

OLIVIA ROGERS

By Josiah Kopp

OW N E R NICHE SALON STUDIOS A B O U T

O L I V I A

Olivia Rogers Guertin, better known as Hair & Makeup by Olivia, is a master cosmetologist and salon owner, curly hair specialist, and your go-to girl for weddings and special events. She has been in the cosmetology industry professionally for 16 years—yet has been passionate about beauty and haircare for as long as she can remember. Olivia took the leap of faith to become an independent stylist in 2017, and in the spring of 2022, she opened Niche Salon Studios, a salon for independent stylists like herself. Olivia chose the word “Niche” because it means a specialized segment of the market, reflecting the services she provides. “At Niche, we all have areas of cosmetology that we love to specialize in, and mine are curly hair and formal events,” she said. During the week, you can find Olivia at the salon, working behind the chair doing cuts and colors, and teaching her clients about caring for their naturally curly hair. On the weekends, she gets to hang out with wedding parties, making their hair and makeup visions come to life.

“I think what makes my business trending is that I really focus on making my brides feel like the best versions of themselves,” Olivia said. “I personalize every hairstyle and makeup application to whoever I’m working with, and we work closely up until the wedding day to figure out their perfect Bridal look.” Olivia takes into consideration things like face shapes, colors, hair types, and weather conditions to come up with something that is going to stay in place all day. Her end goal is to leave the bride feeling like a queen. “I consider myself more of a hair and makeup coordinator than just the ‘day-of’ stylist,” she said. When she is booked for a wedding party, Olivia isn’t just there to do hair and makeup; she can be involved as much or as little as the client wants—she doesn’t expect her brides to figure it all out if they haven’t planned a wedding before. If more artists than herself are needed, then Olivia has a team of styling assistants who can help get everyone glammed on time. Olivia creates a schedule and timeline for the wedding morning so everything goes as planned. “The bride’s job that day should be to sit back and relax, so if I can help and take a little stress off the planning, I will!” she said. 55

THE OLIVERS, R I V E R H AV E N I N MOORHEAD

know?

Your wedding doesn’t have to be in Fargo-Moorhead for Olivia to do your hair and makeup—she will travel just about anywhere to help make your special day beautiful!

For the Olivers’ wedding, Olivia started by confirming with the bride Samantha the week of the wedding day to finalize her plans and wedding look, considering her dress, theme, and preferences. On the wedding day, Olivia arrived at the venue early, set up her equipment, and created a serene environment for the bride and her party. Olivia often brings an assistant with her if there is more than she can accommodate. On this day, she had Violet Rose MUA assisting with wedding party makeup.

Kensie Wallner Photography

Each makeup application and hair styling session started with a consultation, making sure they understood their expectations and making any necessary adjustments. They worked meticulously to create flawless long-lasting looks that would complement each individual’s features and enhance their natural beauty. Throughout the morning, Olivia and Violet were attentive to any touch-ups required to keep the bride and bridal party looking great throughout the day. “Everyone was so happy with their hair and makeup and we had a blast with Samantha and her wedding party!” Olivia said. “Her boho bridal vision came to life in her photos and she looked stunning! It was so fun working with her. It’s important to me to create a fun, relaxing atmosphere while keeping everyone on schedule.”

Kensie Wallner Photography 56 | 2023 |

For Olivia, flexibility is key; she adapts to any unforeseen changes and makes sure the bride feels confident and radiant before she walks down the aisle. The most rewarding part about what she does as a hair and makeup stylist is seeing the joy on the clients’ faces as they look at themselves in the mirror.

Meet Christy Tehven, the founder and owner of Love Always Floral in Fargo. Christy grew up in Langdon, ND, and graduated from Concordia College with a double major in Business Marketing and Communications. She had the privilege of working with Flint Group and SCHEELS before she founded Love Always Floral in 2016. Christy's team at Love Always Floral focuses on designing daily arrangements for delivery,, wedding florals, and floral decor for corporate events. No matter the request, they are there to design for any big moments in the Fargo-Moorhead community! The Love Always Floral team is also approaching a big milestone this coming January, celebrating eight years of business to the community, and their passion has stayed consistent from the very beginning—creating with love, flowering for good, and inspiring beauty. Christy's time outside of work is mainly spent chasing around her three kids, ages three, four, and five. "Being a mother has inspired me to show those kiddos they can make the world a better place, one person or moment at a time," she said.

"Our goal is to create arrangements as you would see them in a garden," Christy said. "We focus on that airy, negative space and a whimsical, natural feel versus a highly structured design." Using trending, artisan florals and modern mediums, each design is uniquely created. With an emphasis on natural composition, interesting textures, and unconventional colors and flower varieties, from weddings and large-scale installations to a Tuesday "just because" delivery, Christy and her team's work is crafted with intention and artful precision. The Love Always Floral team loves creating full-scale installations. If a project involves designs that hang in the air, floral statements that grow up from the ground, or anything in between, the Love Always Floral team is in! They love new innovative ideas and figuring out how they can make that dream come to life! "Weddings will forever hold a special place in our teams' hearts," Christy said. "The fact couples trust us to be a part of their kick-off to forever is not lost on us. We especially love pouring our hearts into our bouquets, as this is the design piece that you hold as you walk down to your loved one. We can't help but cry when you cry and feel all those beautiful emotions!" D i d

RILEY & ELLIE'S W E D D I N G AT BREWHALLA "We recently loved working on a wedding at the new event venue, Brewhalla, alongside an amazing lineup of local vendors!" Christy said. "Ellie and Riley wanted to bring a modern twist to their fall wedding." While working with wedding couples, Christy and her team always start with an initial complimentary consultation. This helps the couple understand their process, get to know a little bit more about the company and together they dream up all the beautiful floral ideas. Following the meeting, an itemized estimate and inspiration board are sent over for review. With Ellie, Christy, and her team were able to do a site tour of Brewhalla and First Lutheran in downtown Fargo to visualize the space.

At the reception, the Love Always Floral team made their own spider web to string strands of painted asparagus ferns throughout the main space of the reception hall, alongside beautiful bud vases on every table to bring in some brighter color. "Karissa with Plan to Gather Events, was a rockstar in helping line up all the details for the day," Christy said. "The White House Company brought stylized touches to match perfectly and Ivan Amssan Photography captured the personalities of the couple beautifully!"

Karissa Kjos is a Williston, ND, native and an expert in all things event production and execution. Whether planning an event for 40 or 400, she handles all events with precision and professionalism. She specializes in weddings with budgets from $15,000 to $250,000 and has an eye for logistics and ensures seamless coordination between vendors to help your day be perfect. When she isn’t busy planning an event, you can find Karissa spending time at the lake, grabbing coffee with vendors, catching up on Hallmark with her cat Ginny, or hosting friends for dinner. “I love meeting new clients and getting to be a small part of their love story,” Karissa said. “From our first meeting to assisting them in making their dream day come to life, each wedding is so special and unique. We also have an amazing event industry in Fargo and as much as I look forward to seeing my clients, I also look forward to seeing my fellow vendors. We lean on each other, support each other, and cheer on each other’s growth.”

Karissa’s motto is “Be a guest at your own event,” and this is what her clients experience when working with her. As an event planner, Karissa oversees every aspect of a wedding day. “We are one of the best assets to have on your vendor team,” she said. “We know your vision and wants, and we have the best resources and team to put in place to make them happen. We are the go-to person for vendors, the wedding party, and guests, so as a couple, you can truly relax and enjoy your day.” To be accessible to any couple’s needs, Karissa offers three different packages so clients can decide what best fits their needs and budget: Full Planning, Partial Planning, and Day-Of Coordination. Regardless of the package, she is the first to arrive and the last to leave. Vendors know Karissa for her Event Orders, which is a client’s day-of document that outlines every detail for the day including vendors and what they are providing, layouts, and a detailed timeline. This tool is modified throughout the planning process so that whoever is involved in the day knows exactly what is going on. She also assembles a smaller timeline for your wedding party and family, provided a week prior, so they know what to bring and where to be.

D i d

yo u

Your guest count directly influences your budget and venue choice—in order to book all the vendors you’d like, I recommend a starting budget of: 100 guests = $20,000 200 guests = $30,000 300 guests = $40,000 69

T H E M O D E R OW ’S W E D D I N G , I VY & R O S E WA R E H O U S E A N D JA S P E R H OT E L “Stephanie and Lucas’ wedding was truly a dream-made reality!” Karrisa said. “You wouldn’t even know that about halfway through we had to pivot and change the venue and date, re-order and send out new save the dates, and add a ceremony venue. But it is in those unpredictable moments that having an event planner like me is crucial as we were able to adjust and change all plans within a day, while also keeping our original vendor team together.” The Moderow’s wedding was extra special for Karissa as she was the first vendor that they booked, which helped everything stay organized from the very start. Stephanie owns Say Less Events, so for Karissa to be asked by a fellow planner was extra exciting. “As an event planner, it is great to be booked first as you get to have initial discussions about guest count and budget and can assemble the best vendor team to fit your client’s personalities and wedding day,” Karissa noted. Karissa closely works alongside The White House Co and Gathered Boutique Rentals as most of her clients decide to rent decor—which she highly encourages. For Stephanie and Lucas’ wedding, they worked with Love Always Floral, Gathered Boutique Rentals, and The White House Co. The ceremony at Ivy & Rose Warehouse was elegant and classic using white and green florals, candles, white chairs, and soft seating from The White House Co. Relocating to the Jasper Hotel for reception, they brought the fun with color, black accents, and disco balls! They collaborated with Love Always Floral and Gathered Boutique Rentals to create the unique and personalized head table backdrop, which came together even better than imagined. Gathered Boutique Rentals provided the arches and disco balls that Love Always Floral filled in with colorful baby’s breath. To add a touch of personalization, Sign Badgers printed the “S” and “L” also found on their invitations and other detail items.

Photos by Revel Woods Photo

Another fun touch to this wedding was a personalized cake from Nichole’s Fine Pastry that Stephanie and Lucas helped assemble on-site. A classic Italian wedding cake, millefoglie, was made of puff pastry layers filled with pastry cream and topped with berries. “I am happiest when I finish tear-down at the end of the night and I see my clients with all their loved ones finishing their last dance, knowing that they got to be guests at their own event!” she said. 71

Venues ”We got married at the Venue at Meadows on Lind. We knew right away that this was going to be our place. No matter where you go on the property, the space is beautiful and set up with the guests in mind. We loved that you have the lake, an open and beautiful reception hall, and plenty of room outside for guests to enjoy. Plus, they are amazing to work with and truly are passionate about making your day unforgettable.” Florist ”Floret and Foliage made the wedding party flowers. We picked them because we heard great things about their work. The rest of the flowers at the reception were grown by friends and family. Kimberly's sister planted most of the flowers and even cut around 250 sprigs of green from her farm to wrap with the napkins.” Music ”We did not have a DJ, we put together our own playlist.” Cater ”Casey Jo's Catering was so great to work with and multiple people recommended them. Their food and service was amazing!” Dessert ”Sweet Baked out of Detroit Lakes—they are right by the venue and make the best cupcakes we have ever eaten. We stopped by to pick up our samples and booked them before we even hit the highway.” Bridal Gown ”I got my wedding dress from LeeAnne's Bridal. I felt comfortable as soon as I entered and they did a great job of understanding what I liked about each dress. For someone who didn't know what she wanted before going in, it took a lot of the stress away.” Groom's Wear ”Halberstadt's on Broadway has really good service and is definitely the one to work with.” Hairstylist ”Hint Of Han Hair—Hannah is incredible to work with and makes you feel right at home. She took the time to understand what I liked and did an amazing job creating it. For the rest of the wedding party, we booked b. Salon and Sarah did a phenomenal job.” Makeup Artist ”Alina at Artistry Fargo. I appreciated what she wrote online and her approach to her clients. She listened to what I was looking for and did an excellent job of delivering that while giving her professional opinion when needed.” 78 | 2023 |

Q: What was the most difficult part of the planning process? A: With a six-month engagement, we had some difficulty finding vendors who were still available. Thankfully we were able to still find amazing vendors, it just took some additional searching and creativity. While there were some challenges in planning on a shorter timetable, it helped keep these two procrastinators on task! Q: What was the easiest part? And what was the most fun? A: Picking the venue was the easiest part. The most fun was pre-marital counseling. It helped us keep perspective and we learned a lot about each other.

process. Also, accepting help from friends and family is important. Delegating what I could removed a lot of stress and we are so thankful for all the help we received. Q: Were there any "traditional" or "trendy" wedding things that you DID do or DIDN'T do? A: We had all 10 of our nieces and nephews as flower girls and ring bearers. When you get married in your 30s, your siblings already have a lot of kids! Q: What were the standout vendors or products you found that made your day memorable?

Q: What were your top priorities for planning the wedding right after the engagement?

A: We honestly would pick all the same vendors again. Our venue set the tone for the day and our photographer captured the beauty of the space. And the food was amazing!

A: Booking our venue, photographer, and catering. We knew once we got our main vendors booked, we had time to fill in all the details.

Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day?

Q: Did you take any special steps to maintain a budget? A: Zola had a budget tracking form that worked really well. We didn't have to start from scratch and the preloaded categories helped keep me organized. We also did things ourselves when we could, like designing our invites on Canva.

A: We were given the advice to step back and just take in moments at our wedding. It is true that the day can feel like a blur, so taking a few moments throughout the day to just stop, look around, and take it all in really helped us stay present. Congrats Kimberly & Maxwel!

Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts? A: Take deep breaths and time to recharge throughout the planning | EmilyChadwickPhotography.com | emily@emilychadwickphotography.com 80 | 2023 |

Our love story began at a bar… at a One Tree Hill charity event. Once we knew, we knew, and we were on the road to marriage very quickly! I (Marisa) moved to Wilmington, NC from Hitterdal, MN, in 2021 and we currently live in North Carolina, but, of course, chose to make the trip back up here for the special day—Timothy (or, Eli) agreed and invited his family to visit the north! We enjoy going to the beach, local breweries, and vendor markets, and having friends over for fires and games!

Venues “We got married at the church I grew up in, in Hitterdal, MN, and had our reception at Venue 31 outside of Hawley, MN. Karen Kasin is the owner and great family friend—her venue is incredibly beautiful for any kind of wedding—it was the perfect fit!” Florist “My bouquet was made by Sweet Stems! They helped me pick the perfect flowers that worked with my inspiration for a waterfall bouquet!” Music ”Harmon Entertainment—Sam Sadlowsky was our DJ and he helped us through the entire process! I couldn’t have asked for a better person to help bring entertainment to our guests and get them on the dance floor! We got to have Lee England Jr. as our violinist who joined us during the ceremony and cocktail hour as well as our entrance into the reception! Tyler Hilton was also included in our big day! He was a singer/actor in One Tree Hill and he sang our first dance!” Videographer “We used Harmon Entertainment! They were incredible to work with from start to finish and we got a good deal since we had already booked them for our DJ!” Cater “Everyone was able to enjoy Precision Catering’s delicious grazing table during cocktail hour and a mouth-watering meal later in the evening. They had a great variety of choices for sides and proteins and literally catered to our every need, food-wise!” Dessert ”Cakes by Althea presented beautiful cupcakes for our guests that looked like they were floating in the clouds, exactly how I imagined! They had many different flavors of frosting and cakes to choose from that made it hard to pick!” Bridal Gown ”I wore my mom’s gown, it was something I always dreamed of doing and, with the help of a lovely local seamstress, it was transformed into my own dress!” Groom's Wear ”Our men were dressed head to toe in Men’s Wearhouse! They were fantastic at helping them all get fit and made sure they looked fresh for the big day!” Hairstylist ”My stylist was Tyra Nicole, who is based at M.J. Capelli! She is a childhood best friend of mine who I knew was the perfect fit to help make me feel beautiful on our special day!” Makeup Artist ”My college best friend, Geneva Nodland—who was always the makeup magician before a night out! She completed the glam squad and was a superhero that day!” 84 | 2023 |

Q: What was the most difficult part of the planning process? A: We were planning our wedding while living in two different states, and planning a wedding that was going to take place in a completely different state! It was hard to know if what we pictured was working when we couldn’t do everything where we were. Q: What was the easiest part? And what was the most fun? A: Probably picking the music for the entire day! We both love music and it is a huge part of our life together so thinking of the special moments and what songs would be playing was honestly really fun for us! Q: What were your top priorities for planning the wedding right after the engagement? A: Getting our vendors locked down! We wanted to get married sooner rather than later so we started contacting them right away! Q: Did you take any special steps to maintain a budget? A: We kept in mind what was a priority and made payments on time! Eli worked extra hard through it all as well and that helped even more to make our dream day come to life! Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts?

though some things may go wrong or not as planned, it would all be okay because, at the end of the day, we would be married. Q: Were there any “traditional” or “trendy” wedding things that you DID do or DIDN’T do, and why? A: I guess the traditional parts were getting married in a church and my dad “giving me away.” It was how I always pictured my wedding day, especially since it’s where my parents got married! On the trendy side, our bridal party stood on opposite sides of us (bride and groom), so they could see us during the ceremony. Also, my “something blue” was a very special person to me who stunted the evening in a blue suit! Q: What were the standout vendors or products you found that made your day memorable? A: Harmon Entertainment! They truly knew what they were doing and they made the entire second half of the day more than I could have imagined! Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day? A: Take a step back from time to time to see the big picture. Don’t stress too much because everyone is there for you and will support you through it all! This is your day of love and that’s what matters! Never forget why you are here and it’ll all be worth it! Congrats Marisa & Timothy!

We, Samantha and Todd, were recently married in Moorhead, MN. We live in the Fargo, ND, area and have since 2017. We met in Idaho at an Irish Pub called “First Nash.” We were pool partners that evening and quickly became friends, which evolved into a romantic relationship. Sam was living in Idaho because she was working on her PhD in clinical psychology at Idaho State University and I (Todd) was working at ISU Credit Union. She moved to North Dakota in the summer of 2017 and I followed four months later. Sam completed her doctoral psychology internship at the Fargo VA Healthcare System, remained for her residency training, and stayed on as a staff clinical psychologist post-licensure. She continues to work at the VA serving Veterans and is the program manager of the recovery programs and staff, as well as the assistant training director of the doctoral psychology internship program. I began working at US Bank in 2017 and I’m now an operations team manager at US Bank, overseeing operations and daily procedures, as well as managing the staff. We have our adorable dogs Chewie and Lucy and our cat Nala in North Dakota, while our cat Jaxon lives in Idaho with my parents since he loves roaming the mountain outdoors. We love traveling together, trying new food, exploring nature, listening to music, and spending time with our family and friends. Sam loves cooking, dancing, photography, and staying physically active. I love singing, playing the piano, video gaming, and gardening.

Venues “We chose RiverHaven Events Center for our wedding ceremony and reception. If you have ever seen RiverHaven, you would see why we chose it! We love nature and wanted to be married somewhere that had trees, greenery, and water. We like classic, minimalism, and playing visually on textures. The brick, glass, wood, and metal components of the inside of RiverHaven stole our hearts the moment we walked in. The patio is adorable and the view outside is stunning.” Florist “We selected Poppy Flowers. Sam, by her nature, is a researcher. So every decision made was made after much investigation of the business, the mission, the people, the reviews, the cost, and so forth. They were affordable, beautiful, responsive, helpful, and had great reviews. We would absolutely recommend them too. We provided the florist, who came to set up with minimal direction of our vision and she nailed it. Our guests are still talking about how gorgeous the venue and floral were!” Videographer “After Sam did her research, we selected Meadowlark Films. Her work is absolutely gorgeous. She is able to capture the authenticity of the moment. We highly recommend her and will be choosing her again for any videography needs in the future. She is also kind, funny, and easygoing! She could easily become a good friend and is just lovely to be around. She has a great eye for gorgeous scenes and kept things light and fun. While we have only seen the sneak peek of our video, it looked perfect. Our family and friends have commented on how gorgeous the sneak peek video and the settings captured were. Sam loves photography and videography, it was incredibly important to her that our day was captured by someone we would trust fully. Janna is amazing!” DJ “We chose our buddy Mike (Rookie) Anderson to be our DJ. Rookie DJs in the Fargo-Moorhead area and also works full-time at US Bank, which is how we met him. If you know Mike, you would agree that he is genuine, sweet, funny, and a fabulous DJ. He is able to match, and if needed change, the energy of any room with music. We spent the night on the dance floor with our guests. It was so much fun! We wish we could hit repeat on that night. We will be hiring Mike again in the future when we have an event that calls for a DJ. We highly recommend Rookie. We also had local live guitarists, Twelve Strings. Chris Argenziano is the lead who worked closely with us on planning. They played classical music during our ceremony and jazz music during our social hour. They were absolutely wonderful! They also play around the city at wineries and other events. We highly recommend them. They are amazing, flexible, kind, friendly, and fun to work with. They’re just all-around good people.” Cater “We selected Chef’s Table catering. We made a date out of our private tasting session we had downtown with them. It was so fun and the food was amazing. Our guests also spoke at length about our appetizers, plated meals, and late-night snack. They were wonderful to work with and patient with our millions of questions. They were professional, prompt, and considerate during the reception. We really appreciated that they asked if we wanted them to package up our leftovers or if we wanted to donate 90 | 2023 |

them to a local homeless shelter. We loved that this was an option and donated our food. We highly recommend this company.” Dessert “We skipped the cake… well, the traditional style cake. We decided to go with Nichole’s Fine Pastry for our mini cheesecake that we enjoyed. We also ordered our French macrons from Nichole’s. If you have ever had their macrons, you know they are the absolute best! If you have never had them, do yourself a favor and check them out downtown or at the Brewhalla location. Our guests raved about the French macrons. We also ordered bundtinis® from Nothing Bundt Cakes, which was delicious! We loved the dessert options we went with. The bundtinis® offered guests a variety of flavors, perfectly sized, easy to grab and eat, and affordable. Their cream cheese frosting is outstanding.” Bridal Gown “Sam’s dress was from LeeAnne’s Bridal in Fargo. A friend, Jess, recommended ‘less is more’ with the number of bridal shops/boutiques visited to avoid being overwhelmed. Sam took that to heart and decided to only look at LeeAnne’s after doing her research on various options in the area. She wanted to stay local regardless, which helped narrow it down. She opted to make an appointment and the experience was wonderful. They are very kind, patient, and great to work with. They had recommended Karen’s Bridal Alterations in Moorhead to have the dress altered. Karen was great to work with!” “Side note, Sam going to the bridal store in December during a snowstorm with her Mom is a great memory. Sam’s mom made it in during a lull in the storm (she lives hours away) the night prior. The morning of, we had a ton of snow in our driveway. We dug out the driveway with a plastic shovel to get out… we are now proud owners of a snowblower. It was great teamwork as a couple!” Groom’s Wear “Todd’s tux was from Halberstadt’s on Broadway. He did a walkin to select what he was looking for. They were attentive and helpful at Halberstadt’s. We were torn on a few options for Todd and the suits for the men in our wedding. The staff were able to provide solid options and pros/ cons to guide us to what we found to be perfect.” Hairstylist “We were lucky to have Olivia Rogers Guertin, owner of Niche Salon and Hair & Makeup by Olivia. Sam could see that she does amazing work by photos and reviews shared. She did a trial for bridal hair and makeup and was sold. Sam said Olivia is a gentle, kind, and patient woman. Her energy is calming and genuine. Sam is so happy with the work Olivia did on her hair and the ladies who got their hair done at our wedding loved their hair too. Sam plans to continue to work with Olivia in the future. We highly recommend her for events, but also to have as your stylist!” Makeup Artist “Olivia also did all of the ladies’ makeup. Sam really appreciated that Olivia listened to what Sam’s preference was. It was really important to Sam to look like herself on our wedding day and not be too overdone, to be just a polished version of herself. Olivia did an amazing job with the makeup.” 91

Q: What was the easiest part? And what was the most fun? A: The easiest part was deciding that we wanted to spend our lives together as husband and wife. The food-tasting part was great and easy too! It was fun going to a few venues and making decisions as a couple. Hearing each others’ vision and hopes for the day. For Sam, going wedding dress shopping with her mom was a definite highlight. We were not sure if she could since she lives hours away and it was winter. But when you put your mind to it, even a three-day snowstorm can’t stop you. Q: Were there any “traditional” or “trendy” wedding things that you DID do or DIDN’T do? A: We did NOT have: a large wedding; a wedding cake; a religious ceremony/reception; a receiving line; a large wedding party; a dollar dance; throwing bouquet; garter; no veil; no party bus between the wedding and dinner; gift/favors at wedding; no photo booth. We nixed these because they did not align with our values or who we are as individuals or a couple. We DID have: Sam had a Man of Honor who is her best friend and Todd had a Best Man who was one of his brothers; mimosa bar and breakfast platter while we all got ready onsite; we wrote the entire ceremony and had our brother-inlaw write parts; Sam wrote our vows and Todd edited them, and we both read the same vows; live guitarists for wedding ceremony and social hour and songs we picked together; sand unity ceremony; flower petals thrown by guests when we walked down aisle; unplugged ceremony; menu/thank you cards on napkins; transportation for guests (trolley by All Occasions Limousine & Shuttle and their shuttle at end of night); appetizers and live music during social hour; open bar all night; late | kensiewallner.com | kensiewallner@gmail.com 92 | 2023 |

night snack; Alpha Lit Marquee lettering on the courtyard/patio that read “The Olivers;” live guitarists during ceremony and social hour; we had patio games outside (corn hole etc.) for guests to enjoy; welcome bags at the hotels for out of town/ state guests; we had our guests gather around the dance floor to see the first dances, which was lovely; we rented the Fargo Theatre Marquee for the weekend and it read “Congratulations to the Newlyweds, The Olivers!” So many friends and family posed under it, so worth it. We self-choreographed our wedding dance. We started off slow to “I Get to Love You” by Ruelle, then mashed up three faster fun songs and had dance moves to them (kept it at or under three minutes still). We decided against dance lessons and instead turned to YouTube on an iPad in our basement. We found dance moves that looked fun and doable and practiced for a couple of weeks after work at home. We did not want an over-choreographed and difficult dance, just something unique. Sam mashed up the songs in a way that offered flow. At the end of our little ditty, we invited all guests onto the floor and danced with them. Truthfully, learning to dance at home to this was fun in and of itself. Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day? A: Take time to do research on vendors and tips from other couples. We have so much available at our fingertips, use it to be sure you are selecting a great fit. Remain focused on what is important: getting married to one another. If you are married at the end of the day, it went perfectly. No one else knows your vision, so if something is not right—no one will know or care! We do recommend (depending on what is important to you) not skimping on good food, good music, and a good venue. Congrats Samantha & Todd!

We are Evan and Josh. We crossed paths online and dated for two years before tying the knot on July 15, 2023. Evan is a Registered Nurse and Josh is a UPS delivery driver. When we’re not working, we like to spend time together at home, including spoiling our rag-doll cat, Oscar. Final Touches Salon

Venues “Our ceremony was held at St. John Lutheran Church, and the reception was held at the Ramada by Wyndham. We chose the Ramada because it fit within our budget, and the staff was all-around very friendly and accommodating. Plus, the convenience of a hotel ballroom reception can’t be beat!” Florist “We used Botanica Floristry. The owner, Steph, used home-grown and locally sourced flowers and greenery. All of the display items were reusable or recyclable, so we liked that we were able to be eco-conscious with our florals.” DJ “Power Play DJ was highly rated, and was awesome to work with. Our DJ, Scott, kept the energy level up and was awesome about communicating with us throughout the evening.” Cater “We used the Ramada’s in-house catering.” Dessert “For our cake, we went with a marble cake with buttercream frosting from Love in the Oven. We also had an assortment of Sandy’s Donuts.” Groom’s Wear “We used Generation Tux! We were able to order swatches of all the suits, vests, and ties so we could really see what the colors looked like. The men all received their suits two weeks before the wedding, so there was ample time to replace any items that didn’t fit. I also loved that they offered an at-home try-on option before placing your final order.” Hairstylist/Makeup Artist “Final Touches Salon provided the hair and makeup for the groomsmaids, flower girls, grandmothers, and mothers of the grooms! Final Touches has rave reviews, and after working with them, I agree! The hair and makeup artists were prompt, professional, and just fun to hang out with while getting ready.” Wedding Planner “Amy Lee of Breathe and Relax Events was our wedding planner/coordinator. I cannot stress enough how incredible Amy was to work with. She was fun and energetic and kept everything flowing smoothly. We highly recommend Breathe and Relax Events!” 96 | 2023 |

Q: What was the most difficult part of the planning process?

to feel so overwhelmed, and made checking tasks off my todo list much more manageable.

A: The most difficult part was probably setting (and sticking to) a budget.

Q: Were there any “traditional” or “trendy” wedding things that you DID do or DIDN’T do?

Q: What was the easiest part? And what was the most fun? A: The easiest part for us was choosing our color scheme. We landed on one within 20 minutes and stuck to it. The most fun part was creating and delivering the ‘proposal boxes’ we used to ask our friends and family to be part of our wedding party! Q: What were your top priorities for planning the wedding right after the engagement? A: First and foremost was to secure our venues. Wedding season fills up fast! Second, was food, which luckily we were able to use the in-house catering. And lastly was music. It’s a party after all!

A: Our wedding leaned more traditional. For example, we had a church ceremony with a unity candle lighting. Q: What were the standout vendors or products you found that made your day memorable? A: We loved all of our vendors, but if we had to pick just one, it would be our florist. We were obsessed with how beautiful the floral arrangements and bouquets turned out. They were even better than what we had envisioned for the day! Q: Can you share some advice with couples who are planning their big day?

Q: Did you take any special steps to maintain a budget?

A: Our advice would be to start planning early and don’t shy away from hiring a wedding planner, they’re experts!

A: Evan was the Google Doc and spreadsheet wizard of tracking expenses.

Congrats Evan & Josh!

Q: Everybody says that you should have fun and enjoy the wedding planning process, but it is easy to get stressed! Any recommendations on how to stay calm during the stressful parts? A: I (Evan) found that having a specific email for just weddingrelated items helped me not | chelseajoyphoto.com | /chelseajoyphotography 98 | 2023 |

How did you meet & when did you start dating?

Their first photo!

"Tyler went to Moorhead High and I went to Fargo Davies. We knew of each other in high school, but it wasn't until after college that we connected at the beginning of 2021. After a few months of going on dates and spending time together, we decided to make it official! The past two and a half years together have been full of traveling, new experiences, and becoming a part of each others' families." - Jessica When did you know you were ready to propose? "In December of 2022, I knew that I wanted to propose. After speaking with her parents and receiving their blessing, I began to look for engagement rings. Shortly after, I secured the perfect ring and began to plan the proposal. With an upcoming trip to Mexico that March, I thought that would be the perfect time to pop the question. However, Jessica started to become suspicious that something may be happening on the trip, and I didn't want to take the chance that it wouldn't be a 100% surprise. So I decided to hold off and needed to come up with a backup plan. To ensure she wouldn't come across the ring in the meantime, I decided to give it to my older sister to hold on to." - Tyler

100 | 2023 |

Moments leading up to the engagement "Christina Chamma, a local photographer was hosting minisessions at the beginning of summer and I asked Tyler if he would want to do a couples session. We had never done any professional photos together and I thought it would be fun to dress up and go out." - Jessica "The day after Jessica scheduled these photos, I had the idea this might be the perfect opportunity. I reached out to Christina separately to see if she could help me make this happen. The day came and I knew Jessica had no idea what was about to take place that evening. That afternoon I picked the ring up from my sister's house in preparation. I was surprisingly calm and ready for the big moment." - Tyler

“We drove out to Orchard Glen Park in South Fargo and met Christina. We started taking photos on a nearby trail and were having so much fun together. During the first series of photos, Christina posed me in front of Tyler and I had no idea what was going on behind me. Tyler had pulled out the ring and held it to his side, Christina then asked me to turn around and face him. He was down on one knee and I couldn’t believe it. I remember saying ‘What! I was the one who planned this photoshoot.’ I was overwhelmed with emotion and excitement.” - Jessica

“She said yes, officially turning the rest of our photo session into an engagement shoot. It was perfect and I’m glad everything went smoothly. Christina even managed to sneak her phone down recording a video the whole time, which was an added bonus and something we have to relive the moment. The remainder of our night ended with Facetiming all of our family and best friends to tell them our special news.” - Tyler

What’s coming next for you two? “We took the summer to enjoy our engagement and now we are officially starting to wedding plan. We haven’t locked in a date quite yet, but are estimating for early fall of 2024. We are eager to begin this next chapter of our lives together and every moment in between.” - Jessica & Tyler Congrats Jessica & Tyler! 101

How did you meet & when did you start dating? “During my senior year, and Killian’s junior year of college, we met through a mutual friend at the place most romance is born… at Sports Bar in Downtown Fargo. What I thought was just a casual encounter turned out to be something much more! As the school year neared its end, our casual group hangs at Herd and Horns and downtown evolved into something more, even as Killian moved back home for the summer. On a visit to him in the Twin Cities I will never forget the butterflies I got as he came to pick me up for what I might consider our first official date (Killian would definitely argue with me on this). We spent the day exploring downtown St. Paul and it was one of the best days ever. Despite the physical distance, our connection grew through frequent FaceTiming. On one of those calls, Killian asked me to be his girlfriend and I remember saying ‘Are you serious?’ to which he responded ‘I guess I can wait until I see you this weekend so I can do it in person.’ I officially said ‘yes’ on June 1, 2019 where it all began—at Sports Bar!” - Tori Give us a little insight into your relationship. “Navigating through the pandemic, Killian and I took a significant step by moving into my parent’s house, offering us insight into what life would look like living together. Celebrating our one-year anniversary, we transitioned into an apartment, calling it home for two years. 102 | 2023 |

Outgrowing it, and after a series of offers, we joyously had an offer accepted on Good Friday in 2022 and moved into our house a few months later. This major decision felt right; we’d found our best friends in each other and were prepared for the next chapter.” - Tori When did you know you were ready to propose? “I knew Tori was the one after a short amount of time living together. Our evenings were filled with shared dinners and just being in each other’s company. Living together was easy and just seemed right. The home-buying process wasn’t extremely smooth for us but the whole experience made our relationship stronger. After settling into our new routine, I was confident we made the right decision and that it was time to seal the deal!” - Killian What was the ring-buying process like? “Tori and I went ring shopping once in 2021 and nothing ever really came of it, but I knew she was set on what she liked. Over a year later Tori had a meeting at Royal Jewelers, and in true Tori fashion, she managed to slip me Kelsey’s business card… not once but three times. Admittedly, that gave me the nudge to go chat with Kelsey. In December 2022, I went into Royal Jewelers for my first of many meetings with Kelsey. Together Kelsey and I customized a ring for Tori, it was a really great experience. I sent the ring to my parents because I didn’t want to risk it getting mixed up in the 15 daily Amazon deliveries Tori gets. Once I brought the ring home, I rotated it between my golf bag, under the couch, and my work bag. I wanted to do everything I could to make sure she didn’t come across it.” - Killian

Moments leading up to the engagement. “Killian, newly employed, explained their holiday party was in April due to year-end busyness. Though his unusual offer to help me choose an outfit for a supposed award dinner at the party raised slight suspicions, I went along with it. We’re typically terrible at keeping secrets from each other, so I was impressed he managed this surprise—even though my faint suspicions had me prepare with fresh nails and a great hair day!” - Tori “Securing our families’ support was important to me, so after getting her dad’s blessing I asked Tori’s sister to help plan the big surprise. The plan unfolded on Good Friday at Drekker, one of our favorite breweries and date spots. I told her I had a work event, and surprisingly, I kept my cool and it went great. I have no idea what I said once I got down on a knee, all I know is that she was really excited. Later we both realized I never actually asked her to marry me… I did then, and she said ‘yes,’ again!

I’ve envisioned our wedding day for a few years, and piecing it together has been such a fun process. Killian has been helpful, contributing his ideas and sharing his opinions. I also have to give a quick shoutout to my sister Kelsey, co-owner of Say Less Events Co., whose expertise has been invaluable. Safe to say I have the best Maid of Honor to help me along the way! Oh, and a pretty awesome fiancé!” - Tori “Tori knows what she wants for the wedding and has been crushing it. I give her my advice and opinions when I feel strongly about something, but for the most part, I am letting Tori take the driver’s seat on this. It’s going to be a great day!” - Killian Congrats Tori & Killian!

We walked into Brewhalla, revealing the final surprise—a celebration with our families and closest friends!” - Killian What’s coming next for you two? “We’re tying the knot on September 7, 2024, at the Armory in Moorhead and are thrilled with our selected vendors. 103

How did you meet & when did you start dating? “Natalie and I had a few classes together in high school but didn’t know each other outside of the classroom. We didn’t see each other at all through college and then she moved to Arizona. She came home to Fargo for a short trip during the summer of 2020 to see friends and family. We ran into each other while she was home and things happened really fast. She ended up extending her trip a little longer and we decided to try longdistance. After just six months I decided to move to Scottsdale, AZ—which was big for me because if you ask anyone who knows me, I never wanted to leave Fargo.” - Kellen 104 | 2023 |

When did you know you were ready to propose, what was the ring-buying process like? “I don’t think there was an exact moment where I knew I wanted to propose to Natalie. but I knew it very early on in the relationship. After being out of the North Dakota winter, and being able to golf and hike year-round, I knew I’d be happy staying in Arizona with her. Being the Fargo native that I am and wanting to keep some roots there in mind, I picked out the ring at Royal Jewelers while I was back in Fargo and had them ship the ring to me in Arizona on a day when I knew Natalie wouldn’t be home. After a couple of months of having the ring, I waited until her parents came down to visit us so that I could ask her dad in person. I was so nervous and emotional that I couldn’t get the words out of my mouth. He just smiled and said, ‘It’s about damn time.’” - Kellen

Moments leading up to the engagement.

What’s coming next for you two?

“A couple of weeks later, Natalie’s friend came to visit and I formed a plan with her for the proposal. We went up to Sedona, AZ for the day so that the girls could do a fun photoshoot. When we got to the spot, instead, I stepped in after a few photos, got down on my knee, and asked her to marry me.” - Kellen

“Our wedding is coming up in just a few weeks! We will be getting married at Superstition Mountain just outside of Phoenix, AZ on November 9th, 2023, happily surrounded by friends and family. Being it’s already a long weekend vacation for most of the guests visiting, we aren’t planning to honeymoon right away but we are planning a trip to Ireland for some time in 2024.” - Kellen Congrats Kellen & Natalie!

Whether you're going with a traditional-style wedding, something completely unique, or somewhere in between, everyone wonders if they should do something on their special day that stands out. So, we looked into some of the wedding trends happening, plus where you can go locally to make your dream day, a little bit more you!

Couples are getting creative when it comes to the sweet tooth portion of their special day, opting for a small personal cake and shareable treats at weddings! Things like donuts and a small cake offer a more cost-effective and intimate dessert experience while also making it easier for guests to savor a variety of flavors and share their love! This provides a delightful blend of affordability, intimacy, and versatility in celebrating the special day.

Photos provided by Sandy's Donuts

We all know and love our local donut distributor—Sandy's Donuts, and they make it easy to customize your wedding treats however you want. "Every single time I hear someone say that they got donuts at their wedding, they're always super pumped. They're easy— 108 | 2023 |

easy to serve, easy to eat. Donuts are a really fun, easy way to provide dessert for your wedding. It's a lot more stress-free than trying to get the perfect cupcake or cake. You can get a good variety, you can display them nicely, and you don't have to worry about it, you can just you just call us, choose your packages, and then we'll get them to you. -Jeff Ostlund, Sandy's Donuts CEO | sandysdonuts.com | /sandysdonuts | @sandys.donuts

Tip! If you want this style of photography for your wedding, make sure you communicate that to your photographer—pull up your TikToks and Instagram reels for inspiration to show them!

More and more couples are looking for documentary-style, flash, and film photography at their weddings to move beyond traditional photos and immerse themselves in the authentic experience of their special day. This approach puts an emphasis on storytelling and personal expression, allowing couples to break away from traditions and create a celebration that truly mirrors their unique personalities. The use of film cameras in capturing wedding moments adds a touch of nostalgia to modern celebrations, infusing timelessness into the images and providing couples with a tangible connection to their cherished memories—this style may be newer to wedding photography, but photographers hopped on the trend quickly and can offer you just that!

This classy and chic trend is as pretty as it tastes. Incorporating a champagne tower at your reception or cocktail hour adds a touch of timeless elegance and sets the stage for a lively celebration. It not only provides a stylish means of serving drinks to your guests but also offers a perfect opportunity for a heartfelt, community toast to the newlyweds immediately after exchanging vows. This captivating addition enhances the festive atmosphere, making it an ideal choice for couples looking to kick off their wedding party in style.

There are many ways to celebrate your wedding day, and as of late, there are a ton of ways to remember it too! Photos are the obvious way to look back on your day, but there are a few other ways to relive the moment. One way brides have been doing this is by preserving their bridal bouquet—something that can be done in a variety of ways (Pinterest is forever our best friend). Another unique way to relive the day is to have a piece of art done at the ceremony or reception by an artist who specializes in live event painting! This unique, beautiful service results in a cherished keepsake, and adds an enchanting and captivating form of entertainment leaving your guests in awe and making your big day truly unforgettable!

The before and after of a bride's bouquet, done by Meg! Meg Spielman Peldo is well versed in the wedding industry, having served the area as a wedding photographer in the past, and now she operates Unraveled Bouquet—a service that creates a photographic art piece from your bouquet, and dries the flowers in silica as well! Meg’s unique reconstructed bouquet service ensures that the beautiful memories of your wedding day will stay blooming forever in a stunning, lasting way. There are a variety of options for sizing and what the finished piece will look like—but what makes this a special addition to your wedding memories is that Meg creates something unique every time! “A bride’s bouquet is an emotionally significant reflection of their personality and style! Even with petals falling, it tells the unique story of their wedding day and there is something truly beautiful about a slightly worn flower. Creating a custom fine art piece that will last for generations is a subtle, and beautifully timeless yet modern way to preserve it! Art that speaks to you in this way, will never go out of style. Drying, pressing and even preserving in resin are all just temporary. They will fade eventually, some faster than others. After I create the flat lay and photograph it, I can also dry a sampling of the flowers in silica gel and coat them with a preservative so they can keep some of the actual flowers for a while at least. I’ve been creating artistic flat lays with objects and flowers since before there was a term for it! As an artist who is known for my contemporary twist on still life and a former wedding photographer, I realized this was a fun way to take the art I’ve always been doing and create custom pieces to preserve the meaning of this special day in a unique and lasting way.” - Meg Spielman, Unraveled Bouquet, Owner | /megspielmanstudio | @unraveledbouquet

A wedding content creator, a relatively new addition to day-of festivities, specializes in capturing dynamic behind-the-scenes moments through various media like imagery, vertical iPhone videos, Reels, and TikTok clips. They’re a must-have for couples looking to uniquely document their special day, offering a fresh, real-time perspective different from traditional photographers and videographers. These creators focus on authenticity, following couples throughout the day to capture candid, cherished memories. This trend is driven by couples who value sharing their wedding on social media and cherishing spontaneous, personal moments. Consider choosing someone onlinesavvy among your bridal party or someone who will be with you every step of the day to fulfill this role!

Psst— this would be a great job for your day-of content creator to do while everyone is dancing the night away!

If you haven’t seen the video compilations of this fun reception idea online, then go find one, because you’ll be convinced! This trend has been making its rounds through weddings all summer, and you can plan for yours with one simple item and a pen—sunglasses. The idea is to write the couple’s initials and the date of the wedding (or really, whatever you want) on a pair of glasses, and make the accessory the next sisterhood of traveling sunglasses by taking it around to guests at the reception for a photo op! By the end of the night, you’ll have a collection of candid photos of your friends and family celebrating your special day!

There are a million things you can do before your wedding to prepare, from mani-pedis to a facial and a visit to the spa, all to make sure you feel the best you can to celebrate a day full of love! There are a few other ways to give yourself and/or your partner a boost before you say “I do,” book a bridal boudoir photoshoot! Investing in a bridal boudoir photo shoot is not just about capturing your beauty, it’s also a powerful confidence boost that reminds you that you’re the stunning star of your wedding story, with or without the dress!

The model in these images is from a model call and has given all permission to share any of her images. Boudoir images are never shared without prior consent from brides.

After years of being a professional wedding photographer, Emily Chadwick wanted to branch out and learn something new, and having an interest in boudoir photography brought Emily to begin shooting bridal boudoir as well! “Bridal Boudoir is such a fun way to connect with yourself and boost your confidence before the big day. And the galleries make for a great wedding day gift for your soon-to-be spouse as well! I absolutely love making my clients feel like their best selves, and seeing them leave from a session glowing and with so much confidence is the best!” - Emily Chadwick, Olive and Pearl Boudoir, Owner

While you might not be interested in ditching your traditional, floor-length bridal gown for your ceremony, you can still hop on the mini-wedding dress trend for your reception! Brides are doing an outfit change into another white showstopper with less length, but still all of the glam. Some are donning an 80s vibe with a giant bow to match and others are adding fun textures like gems, feathers, or tule. Regardless of your style, scrapping the length for a new look and to have the freedom to dance is a great way to add a little something to your day!

Food trucks—a trend that spans far outside the wedding realm, but has no reason not to enter it! Having a food truck visit your wedding reception is a fun and interactive way to create unforgettable experiences for the bridal party and guests alike. This allows to-be-weds to personalize their special day with delicious cuisine while also offering up some eye-catching photo opportunities. Whether it’s for cocktail hour, dinner, dessert, or late-night snacks, food trucks offer flexibility in catering choices, giving couples the chance to serve their favorite fare in a memorable way, complementing their overall wedding experience!

If you’re looking to do something different, look to creating your and your partner’s own personal wedding scent in a candle! Tailored to the style, look, and colors of your wedding, these not only add an immediate touch of magic to your decor but can also ensure your guests will carry the warm and lasting memories of your special day with them! Maybe you want to share your creation at your rehearsal dinner rather than reception, or as thank-you gifts to your wedding party—there are endless ways to use this personalized gift, and maybe, you’ll just design one for you and your partner!

Have you heard of do good adventures yet? Or maybe, have you smelt do good adventures yet? Create your scent and look of your own wedding candles with do good’s wedding flavors! Decorate your day to remember with your own candle of your choosing, with their most popular option being a 3 oz candle with a personalized label—but your limits are only your imagination in this case! Head to dogood-adventures.com to learn more about making your day your own! “Candles have a special way of using scent to connect people to memories. Why not take a special milestone in your life and

relive that moment every time you light a candle? Having customized items is a popular wedding trend and there is nothing more personal than the bride and groom creating a custom scent together and sharing it with others on their wedding day.” - Debbi Osowski, do good adventures, Founder & Owner | /dogoodadventures | @dogood_adventures

Hosts have begun serving a little treat for wedding guests, and enjoying it themselves of course! Adding a tasty midnight snack to the end of your wedding reception is a brilliant move to keep your guests energized and satisfied throughout the night. After hours have passed since the dinner portion, when the dance floor is buzzing, guests might be looking to snack. Couples have considered offering a delectable late-night treat that not only keeps spirits high but also balances the effects of dancing and drinking. Some snacks that have been served are an ice cream sundae bar, pizza (nothing fancy, order some Deeks or Pizza Patrol!), mini burger sliders, mini ice cream cones, build-your-own hotdog station, popcorn bar, french fry bar, mini donuts, and of course, bring out more slices of cake! By providing this surprise for your guests, you can create a memorable and delightful experience that adds an extra touch of hospitality to your special day.

Having a private last dance at your wedding is a wonderful way to create a memorable and intimate moment at the end of your special day. This simple idea doesn’t require much organization but will end with incredible photos that capture the love and emotion shared between you and your partner. While your guests wait outside, preparing and getting organized for your grand exit send-off, this private dance allows couples to relish a final, meaningful moment together before embarking on their new journey as spouses!

Couples have been increasingly drawn to vintage-inspired wedding cakes as they offer a delightful blend of nostalgia and timelessness that complements various wedding aesthetics. This style of cake, spanning multiple decades, can allow couples to connect with family traditions and infuse a touch of “something old” into their special day. Whether opting for classic white-on-white designs for a timeless black-tie event or more playful, whimsical cakes that incorporate your wedding colors, vintage-inspired cakes effortlessly cater to a wide range of wedding styles while adding a charming touch of retro elegance!

and freshly baked pastries. My business partner is Alexa Eugenio, and she specializes in sourcing foods locally. What’s cooler than naming something after yourself? Plus, naming something that might save you some coin—serving signature cocktails at weddings is a savvy strategy that both enhances the guest experience and saves time and money. By featuring one or two signature drinks, couples streamline the bar service, reducing the need for a fully stocked bar with multiple options, which can be costly and time-consuming. These personalized cocktails also provide an opportunity for creative theming, whether it’s a “his and hers,” a uniquely yours concoction, or a simple yet crowd-pleasing choice, you can ensure a memorable and efficient beverage service for all guests while keeping it simple and delicious!

Couples are increasingly embracing sustainable wedding planning and execution for several reasons—first and foremost, this trend allows them to minimize their environmental impact by making conscious choices about materials, emissions, electricity, and resources used throughout their celebration. Also, opting for a sustainable wedding can often be cost-effective, with smaller guest lists and locally sourced products reducing expenses while promoting eco-friendliness. Plus most supplies needed to make your dream wedding happen, have a sustainable alternative—without an up in price. Here are some examples of things couples have done to make their day more sustainable! •Use dried flower petals/leaves over confetti. •Use eco-friendly paper products. •Re-purposing, recycling, and re-using (thrifting decor, signage, stationery, jewelry, even dresses!). •Send online invitations and savethe-dates, and/or utilize online RSVPs (theknot.com is free).

•Build your food menu around sustainability and work with local vendors. •Hire locally. •Encourage guests to carpool or offer shuttle services to minimize travel impact. •Source your floral arrangements locally and in season.
