iraya Hiniray-a Kinaray-a Karay-a

a dialect word collection

zine

This zine is a short collection of words and expressions natively and is usually heard in Karay-a dialect. Commonly, the dialect puts a lot of stress on the "u" and "r" sounds that produce a crisp and fast enunciation.

Karay-a came from the root word iraya which means "upstream" and ka which means "companion." It is spoken mainly in Antique which has spread to Iloilo and a few in Mindanao.

The author made this zine to share a unique perspective and knowledge about one of the dialects spoken in one of the Philippines' major islands Visayas.
