Production and Marketing of China’s Fresh Cut Flower in 2017 In 2016, China’s fresh cut flower shared a good market on the whole. The production area of fresh cut flower had been scaled up in different degrees, while the turnover, and export & import volumes had been soared gradually nationwide.

Yunnan province is renowned as the production center of fresh cut flower in China, and the distribution hub, which goes through a remarkable growth both in production and marketing. In 2016 alone, the production area of Yunnan province’s fresh cut

flower amounted to 13.9 thousand hm2 that generating 10.06 billion stems of transaction volume, with 12.4% and 15.6% year-on-year growth respectively. While the transaction volume of Kunming International Flora Auction Trading Center(KIFA) amounted to 960 million stems which increased 14.8% in 2016 compared with 2015, and 12.68% turnover growth compared with 2015. Except for carnation, African daisy and gypsophila expanded 15.6% and 72.8% year on year on the trade volume. And the trade volume of other Herbaceous cut flowers like eustomas, limonium sinense, hydrangea macrophylla increased at different levels when that of lily remained a steady growth.

In terms of the regional production in China, seasonal complementarity among production regions has been performed smartly. For instance, cut chrysanthemum could be marketed all year around seeing that the regional planting are available in in varying climates such as in Hainan, Guangdong, Yunnan, Zhejiang and other provinces. In addition, the production area of fresh cut flower in Yunnan extends to further afield rather than focusing on the central regions of Yunnan province.

But in 2016 the export of fresh cut flower experienced a recovery growth while the import volume emerged huge increase. According to the customs statistics, the export turnover of domestic fresh cut flower in 2016 reached 283 million dollars with 10.85 % while the import turnover was 215 million dollars with 0.2% growth, compared with last year. On the one hand, China primarily exports flower products to Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, America, HongKong, etc. In turn, diversified flowers will be imported from varying countries. For instance, cut cattleya is imported

from Thailand, rose and gypsophila species are imported from Ecuador, while tuberhybrida group from Chile, herbaceous peony and hydrangeas from New Zealand, etc.
