ho doesn’t love the warm feeling of autumn with its fall palette of oranges, browns, rusts, yellows, gold, copper and bronze. For your inspiration think of an autumn harvest of pumpkins, squash, gourds, fall leaves, bales of hay and jugs of cider.

Create your ambiance with a rich chocolate brown and orange reception area, and try adding pears, apples and cranberries to your centerpieces.

Homemade goodies are always welcomed by your guests and are

a wonderful treat at any autumn wedding! Candy apples, jams and syrups are a favorite treat, and don’t forget to get creative with your packaging…burlap bags can make a big hit.

A few popular flowers for 2011 autumn weddings include mango calla lillies, hypericum, mums, sunflowers, montbretia and an old favorite roses. An ivory or champagne bridal gown with antique or vintage lace will set the theme for your wedding day.

1. Leaf Box What better way to bring in the brilliance of autumn to your wedding than with this Autumn Allure Collection fall leaf box favor. finding the perfect gown

Analyzing your body type before you go shopping will help you know what style of gown to look for.

Here are some helpful hints:

Short and thin figured:

AL NATUR WAIST

A shirtwaist or natural waist style with a full or flowing skirt in most any fabric. Chiffon, lace, velvet or gowns with netting will look stunning on this figure.

Try on a variety of styles including strapless, sleeveless, long sleeved and off the shoulder. Beware of see through designs which tend to show too much, and avoid knits and clingy fabrics all together.

We here at Florida Bride Magazine, commend the bridal designers that have addressed the issue of design for each bride to look her best on her wedding day.

Tall and thin:

Layered gowns will make you appear shorter and add a bit of weight. A gown with a mermaid or a full skirt will also flatter you.

You can wear many fabrics including satin, lace, velvet and chiffon.

Remember not to be alarmed if your normal size is an 8 and your bridal gown is a size 10 or 12. Bridal gowns tend to run differently in sizes.

If you do find yourself in an in between size choose the larger size and have it altered to fit.

When shopping for a slimming look keep in mind fabrics can make a significant difference.

Tall and full figured: A-line or Princess styles are extremely slimming. Satin or chiffon are the best fabrics to look for. Try a modern lace-up dress which is flattering to your height.

When Planning Your Fall Themed Wedding: Get inspiration from the beautiful warm colors and scents of autumn. Northern Florida brides have the chance to enjoy the changing of color on the leaves more than southern Florida brides do. However, that does not mean southern Florida brides cannot create the experience in their wedding day theme. Oh no, with a little imagination and good planning all is possible!

Farmers markets hold a rich source of props for you to use. Did you know that hollowed out pumpkins make a wonderful container for your fall themed centerpiece?

Instead of the traditonal guest sign in book try this: Use construction paper in fall colors, cut out in autumn shaped leaves. Punch a hole at the center top of the leaf and thread a ribbon through it. Place a wishing tree on a table, and put your cut out leaves on it along with a pen for your guests to sign their name and tie to the Wishing tree.

An adorable idea for lining your aisle would be to carve your monogram into small pumpkins or mini gourds and place down your walkway. Remember the old wives tale that says, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away?”

Though that may be true, as a wedding planner I see them as being great for place card holders.

Battle of The Beach Brides -

Sheraton Fort Lauderdale

by: Grace Crompton, Editor in Chief 50 Brides Competed for the Ultimate Wedding of their dreams on Sunday, May 15th. 2011 they came to battle. Dressed in full regalia with war paint on their faces, clappers, tambourines, and horns to make noise, feather caps, lei anklets, tiaras and crowns.

Jimmy was Jammin with his Rocky theme playing, and I must admit the referees had their hands full! The countdown began with Get ready, Get set, Go! The competition began with the first group of brides racing to fill tall glass vases with small buckets of water, then putting on a bridal gown and attempting to run up a waterslide in their gowns and come back down.

Relay race...

They then had to hold their gowns up and tread through a group of tires, and run as fast as they could back to their seats. It was an exhausting feat, but they did it. Each bride was timed by the officials, the top 25 proceeded to the next challenge. Michelle Hipps won the Jimmy Jam Productions DJ package, your wedding will be rockin’ Michelle!

25 brides began digging in 5 piles of sand that each had 3 diamonds buried in them. When it got to the last few diamonds and the clock was ticking the officials allowed one bridesmaid of each bride to help them with the dig. Beach sand was flying everywhere, our cameramen had to watch their lenses! When some of the diamonds still couldn’t be found a new competition was born. A random number was written on a piece of paper, and the remaining brides had to pick a number between 1 and 1000, the bride to guess the closest number that was written on the paper won. The number written on the paper was 681 and Becky was the winner with her choice of 615.

Diamond dig...

The winner received a photography package from Michelle Lawson Photography. Out of the 25 brides that found the diamonds in the Diamond dig only 15 brides went on to the next challenge, the Bouquet toss and a chance to win a complete floral package for their wedding from Dalsimer.

Bouquet toss...

The 15 brides-to-be each had to throw a rose bouquet through a hole on a board decorated with a gown hanging on it, in order to proceed to the next level. Rose petals were scattered everywhere when the bouquets missed the hole and hit the board with a thud, but the crowd roared when the bouquets went through!

Let them eat cake!

Out of the 15 brides in the bouquet toss challenge only 7 went forward. Amanda threw her bouquet like a champ, then Dominque with her red rose bouquet wound up and away it flew straight into the hole. Then came Andrea, Jessica, Tiffany, Stephanie carefully choosing her yellow bouquet, and Erica all got their bouquets in and proceeded on to the next round.

The next competition for the brides was the Cupcake eating contest, and they each had to wear a bridal gown while eating their cupcakes. Cupcakes were stacked on a tray, each bride had a different color of cupcake in front of her for a rainbow of color. They were given 3 minutes to eat as many as they could.

The winner would receive a wedding cake made by Ana Paz. The rules were very specific, no crumbs allowed, and no elbowing of another bride. The clock started counting down as they began frantically shoving cupcakes into their mouths!

All the while the crowd was cheering them on. Their family and bridal party were there to support them, and they didn’t let them down. You could tell it was beginning to get to the brides and they were just dreading the next bite, but they were real champs.

The final battle!

From the cupcake eating competition 5 brides and their bridesmaids went on to the Tug of War - look out theres a shark in the water! This was for the big prize, the one they had come to The Battle of the Beach Brides to win!

A $10,000 Wedding package at the Fort Lauderdale Sheraton, and each one of them wanted it bad. Both sides dug their heels into the sand and yanked on the tulle covered rope, but one way or another someone was going to get drenched! While their friends and families cheered them on they did their best pulling and tugging, but only one team would be the winners!

Each team was eliminated until it came to just two teams left and the final winner of the competition, that team was Team Natalie! Congratulations.

“This cake was inspired by my love of birds,” says Roxanne Floquet, owner and creative director of Roxanne Floquet Cake Design.

To create the edible birds, Roxanne traced and filled the bird shape on cellophane using royal icing. Once dry, the birds were affixed to the tiers with additional icing.

The finishing touch: an oversize silk peony in rich burgundy, which adds a touch of elegance to complement the whimsical birds.

Cocktails Apple Pie

Pomegranate Martini

What You Need:

What You Need: 2 oz. citrus vodka, 1 oz. orange liqueur (Cointreau), 1 oz. pomegranate juice, 3/4 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice 3/4 oz. simple syrup, 1 tsp. pomegranate seeds (optional), 1 slice orange for garnish

2 apple slices, 1/2 oz. agave nectar, 1 pinch Apple Pie Spice (store-bought in the spice section) 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice, 1 1/2 oz. Core vodka (Hudson Valley Apples) Thinly sliced red apple for garnish

How to Make It:

Shake all ingredients except garnishes with ice, then strain into chilled martini glasses. Garnish with pomegranate seeds or slice of orange. *Dissolve 2 cups sugar into 1 cup boiling water. Let cool.

Muddle apple slices in agave, spice, and lemon juice. Add ice and vodka and shake well. Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass.

Garnish with thinly sliced red apple.

Loverlee Tini What You Need: Pink cocktail glass rimmer, 2 oz. citrus vodka, 1 oz. cranberry juice, 1 oz. orange-flavored liqueur, 3/4 oz. lime juice How to Make It: Rub a piece of lime around rim of a chilled martini glass, then dip upside down into the pink rimmer. Set aside. Shake all liquid with ice and strain.

Tangerini Lover Blue Brew What You Need: Lemon wedge, Sugar for rim, 2 oz. blueberry vodka, 1 oz. Hpnotiq, 3/4 oz. lemon juice, 1/2 oz. simple syrup How to Make It: Rub rim of a martini glass with a piece of lemon. Dip moistened glass upside down into a small plate of sugar, set aside. Shake all liquid ingredients with ice.

Gently strain into glass.*Dissolve 2 cups sugar into 1 cup boiling water. Let cool.

What You Need: 1 oz. tangerine schnapps, 1 oz. vodka, Tangerine juice Orange/tangerine peel, for garnish.

How to Make It: Shake and strain first 3 ingredients, into a martini glass.

Garnish with orange/tangerine peel.

French Martini What You Need: 1 oz. citrus vodka, 1 oz. pineapple juice, 1/2 oz.

Chambord, Lime wedge for garnish.

How to Make It: Shake vodka, pineapple juice, and Chambord well with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

Mango Mojito What You Need:

Garnish with lime wedge.

8 to 12 mint leaves, 2 slices fresh mango, Dash of simple syrup, Squeeze of fresh lime 1 1/4 oz. silver rum, Dash of mango liqueur Mint sprig and mango slice for garnish How to Make It:

Latin Lover What You Need: 1/4 cup frozen pineapple juice concentrate, 2 tablespoons frozen orange juice, 2 tbs. frozen cranberry juice concentrate, 1/4 cup coconut rum, 1 1/2 cups small ice cubes, fresh sugarcane for garnish

Muddle mint and mango with simple syrup in a shaker. Add ice, squeeze of lime and rum.

Shake and strain into a highball or specialty tall glass. Add mango liqueur. Garnish with mint sprig and mango slice. Dissolve 2 cups sugar into 1 cup boiling water. Cool

How to Make It: Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth.

Serve.

Key Lime Mojito What You Need: 2 1/2 cups light rum, 3/4 cup fresh lime juice,3/4 cup fresh key lime juice, 3/4 to 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, 3 3/4 cups club soda, 10 large sprigs fresh mint, about 4 to 6 leaves each, Crushed ice, Key lime wedges for garnish How to Make It: In a large pitcher combine rum, lime juices, and sugar. Stir until sugar has dissolved. Stir in club soda. Place mint sprigs in each of 10 glasses. Using the back of a spoon, crush mint leaves. Add crushed ice to glasses. Divide rum mixture between glasses. Garnish with lime wedges. Serve immediately.

Candy Cane Cocktail What You Need: 1 candy cane crushed for garnish, 2 ounces strawberry vodka, 4 dashes white creme de menthe, 2 1/2 ounces cranberry juice, Ice cubes How to Make It: Place crushed candy canes on a small plate or saucer. Wet the outside rim of a chilled martini glass with water. Holding the glass by the stem, rotate the rim to coat with candy. In a cocktail shaker combine vodka, creme de menthe, cranberry juice and ice; shake until well combined. Strain into prepared glass; serve immediately.

Basmati Rice Grits and Fried Southern Shrimp

Grits: 1 cup basmati rice, 2 cups heavy cream, 2 cups whole milk 1 cup chicken stock (broth), ½ pound butter, 1 cup mascarpone cheese

Southern Shrimp: Shrimp marinade: 20 pcs 16/20 shrimp, 3 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 tablespoon minced garlic Batter: 1 cup tempura batter, 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning, 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ cup buttermilk, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 cup water (use as needed), 6 cups canola oil

Salt and pepper to taste. Take rice and grind fine in coffee grinder. Take cream, milk, chicken stock and butter and bring to boil in sauce pot on high heat.

Once the mixture is boiling add rice and stir, turn down the heat to low and continue stirring. Cook for 10 minutes, make sure you stir once a minute. Turn off heat and fold in the mascarpone cheese, sprinkle in salt and white pepper if needed.

Preparation: Marinate shrimp in the marinade for 1 hour. In large stainless steel bowl mix all dry ingredients first and gradually add buttermilk and stir, add water until batter is just thick enough to coat the shrimp.

Note: you don’t want it too thick or you will taste more batter than shrimp.

Take fry pan with oil and bring to 340 degrees on medium heat. Dip shrimp into the batter just to the tail, shake off excess batter and carefully put in the frying oil (don’t place too many in the pan, maybe 4 or 5 to start).

Fry for 3 minutes and flip and fry for another 3 minutes. Cut open one to see if fully cooked (fry longer if needed).

Organic nasturtium leaves, orchid petals, mamey, petit tomatoes, popped hominy, blackberries and lavender honey vinaigrette.

Preparation: Salad: Mix all salad ingredients except for the mamey and blackberries together in a bowl and set aside.

Essensia Salad 2 oz Organic Nasturtium Leaves (may be substituted with Organic Baby Mustard Greens), 4 each Organic Edible Orchids (leaves pulled off ), 1 each Organic Edible Rose Petal (leaves pulled off ), 6 Grape Organic Tomatoes cut in half. 12 pcs of dried Peruvian White Corn (also known as Hominy), 6 pcs Blackberries, 1/2 medium size Mamey cut in half, Salt & White Pepper to taste, Lavender Honey Vinaigrette, 1 tbs White Balsamic Vinegar, 3 tbs Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1 tbs Lavender Honey, Fig Balsamic Syrup, 2 oz Fig Balsamic Vinegar

Lavender Honey Vinaigrette: Mix all vinaigrette ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.

Fig Balsamic Syrup: Reduce 2 oz Fig Balsamic Vinegar in a small sauce pan over medium heat

Final Presentation: Toss salad with Lavender Honey Vinaigrette and season with salt & white pepper to taste. Next, garnish a flat salad plate with the mamey fanned out into 3 slices then place 1/2 the salad mix on top of the mamey. Place three blackberries around the plate and drizzle three drops of Fig Balsamic Syrup on the plate between the mamey and blackberries. Repeat on second salad plate and serve.

Truffled Potato Gratin

Preparation: Start by slicing yukon gold potatoes. Then, place them in a pot with heavy cream and season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. At the restaurant they also like to add a little white truffle oil. Once the potatoes are cooked through, transfer them to a cast iron dish.

Next, top the potatoes with grated fontina cheese and parmesan cheese. Let this broil in the oven for a few minutes or until its a nice golden brown. Chef Jason says you can also bake the potatoes in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.

To plate this dish garnish with a couple of black truffles over the top.

Ingredients for Creamed Spinach: Ingredients: 2 yukon gold potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8 inch thick, 2 qt of heavy whipping cream, kosher salt to taste, fresh cracked black pepper to taste.

1 Tbs. of white truffle oil, 1 cup of Italian fontina cheese grated, 2 Tbs. of parmesan cheese grated fine, 4 black truffles sliced.

12 cups of spinach, 2 qt of heavy whipping cream reduced by 1/2, 1/8 tsp. of whole nutmeg, kosher salt to taste, fresh cracked black pepper to taste.

Method of Preparation: -Begin by squeezing the spinach. You can use either fresh or frozen spinach.

-Place the spinach in a pot and add reduced heavy whipping cream. Season with a little salt, pepper and nutmeg. Cook until the spinach loses its bite and has soaked up the cream. Serve immediately.

Abbey & Mallory find their perfect beach wedding in South Walton...

hen Abbey King of Birmingham, Alabama got engaged she knew without hesitation where she wanted to exchange vows with her husbandto-be Denson Roy. “A few years ago, I discovered Alys Beach and fell in love at first sight,” says Abbey. “It is one of the most beautiful communities I have ever seen.” The picture-perfect backdrop was just what she wanted for her romantic destination wedding. “The simplicity and beauty of the town is so appealing to me not to mention the amazing restaurants and gorgeous beach. hile Abbey and Denson opted for a flip-flop ceremony on the white sand, other brides have found their wedding dreams come true just off the beachy path. David Tutera the interview...

With Florida having so many destination weddings on the beach, what advise can you give beach brides in planning their outside beach themed weddings?

When planning a beach wedding I love to use the ocean breeze to my advantage and place decorative accents like tall posts with billowing fabric flags to create dramatic backdrops, and soft fabric or ribbon accents to the ceremony structure to add a whimsical movement to the alter or chuppa. Similarly, I always make sure to let the landscape do the work, and position guests so that they are always facing the gorgeous view. I also like to build hard platforms (sometimes using sections of portable wooden dance floor) to create a solid runner for the aisle which is easier for the bride to walk on.

Q.

I am a crafty bride and like to be hands on. I am planning a Beach Wedding. We are trying to save money by doing our own centerpieces. My bridesmaids and I have been debating on what they should be. What are some of your favorite centerpieces that you’ve designed?

A.

I have had the pleasure of working on many incredible beach weddings, and one of my favorites was the most simple, and could be easily replicated by you and your bridesmaids. I kept the whole color palette white, from the linens to the china to the flowers. Down the center of the long tables, I ran a series of assorted glass containers and filled each one with its own white species such as calla lilies, casablanca lilies and white orchids in very simple, clean designs. This clean design was really very impactful against the lush greenery and beautiful beachscape that surrounded it.

What advice could you give to our Brides on choosing the perfect gown for an outside beach wedding and a hot Florida summer?

Florida brides need to embrace the weather and dress appropriately. I suggest light, flowing fabrics, sheer materials and possibly even shorter lengths! I also suggest that if their hair is frizz-prone, or if wind will be an issue, that brides also embrace this and go with an updo that will withstand the weather. Finally, make sure to keep extra powder on hand to ensure that they are shine-free for photos.

When you share your personal experience with your TV brides do they become part of your life?

Through the many seasons of My Fair Wedding, I have met some of the most appreciative, beautiful and kind couples that I have ever had the opportunity to work with. Although we only work together for a few weeks before the wedding, it’s an intense collaboration to get it all done, and we grow very close during that process. I keep in touch with many of the brides from the show, and in fact, Kim and Eddie (Breast Cancer Bride) were my special guests a few weeks ago at the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Annual Cancer Ball.

What advice would you give to an aspiring wedding planner?

The one piece of advice I have followed my whole life is to dream. I learned this from my parents when I was little and ever since then, every time a dream has come true...I dream bigger!

If you had to give one piece of advice to couples, what would it be?

I advise my couples to remember the point of a wedding - the union of two people, two lives, two families. This bit of advice should help brides from becoming too focused on the details and the budgets, and to focus more on the love story the wedding should tell...

What type of shoe would you suggest for a beach wedding?

I have planned many beach weddings, sinking sand does pose a problem in terms of fashionable wedding footwear. I would suggest going barefoot for your walk down the aisle as any shoes will not only sink, but wobble and potentially rub sand against your skin - making them too risky!

What are the first steps brides should take when it comes to planning their wedding?

I always suggest that a couple sort out their budget first- not only the overall number, but also what each individual element will cost. This will eliminate any surprises and help to keep everything in check. Sorting out a budget first also helps with an accurate headcount and practically-priced vendors.

You now have a very elegant jewelry line at Sears, David Tutera by Faviana and have teamed up with JoAnn fabrics. What inspired you to start your own lines?

Each of these lines, from my bridal fashion to the craft line was created to fill a hole that I saw in the market. David Tutera by Faviana is a collection of gowns that were red-carpet inspired, but extremely well-priced to ensure that every woman can feel like a celebrity on her big day. And my Down the Aisle in Style line available at JoAnn Fabrics is a series of craft products for the Do-It-Yourself bride which allows every bride to customize the pieces of her wedding, and stay on budget.

What was your inspiration for the names of your bridal jewelry line at Sears?

When coming up with the collection, I really drew from my experience in dealing with the different brides and bridal styles that I have encountered over the years. In order to simplify their selection process, I broke the looks down into four collections including the “Heirloom” collection for the antique-loving ladies to the “Eternal” line for my modern girls. Every bride will be able to define the type of bride they are from these collections, and hopefully use that direction to help her plan her wedding day decor as well!

What is one thing a bride should never scrimp on in her wedding planning?

Or, what is the most important thing to indulge in?

The “Splurge” item will differ from bride to bride and couple to couple as this depends on whatever is most important to them. For some this will be the venue, for others the food, the music, or even the dress, but this “favorite” element is where the attention and appropriate budget should go first to ensure the splurge item is perfect!

From the moment Eric proposed to Casey in Key West they knew their ceremony had to take place by the water.

Casey located Julie McCullough of Beach Ceremonies by Jules to help execute her plan. Together they decided on having the ceremony at the end of Sand Key Beach in Clearwater beside a jetty, the setting was beautiful. Casey couldn’t have asked for better weather the morning of the ceremony. The couple saw each other very early in the morning before dressing for the ceremony, to exchange their wedding gifts. Casey had custom cufflinks made for Eric with maps of Key West and Rome Italy on them, and a leather embossed passport cover. As an extra surprise she also tucked a hand-embroidered handkerchief into his jacket pocket the day before that he didn’t find until he got dressed that read, “For a lifetime of tears of joy I love you, your bride.”

To complete her beach themed wedding, Casey had her four bridesmaids wear coral dresses, while Erics groomsmen wore tan suits. Eric donned an ivory shirt and tan paisley tie.

The bride wore a strapless ivory satin, slightly mermaid style gown.

It had a simple band of pearls at the natural waist, the perfect dress for her, with both structure and movement on the back to soften the look on the beach.

The couple took shots on the beach with their family and wedding party after the ceremony. The photographer joined them on the boat ride to the reception.

They docked to the tune of “Say Hey, I Love You” by Michael Franti and to a railing above crowded with cheering friends and family.

“Short of seeing Eric for the first time at our ceremony, that is my absolute favorite memory of our wedding day. I can close my eyes and be right back on the sailboat seeing everyone for the first time. And a year later, it still makes me tear up!”

The couples choice of venue was Island Way Grill. The space they chose to use for the reception was on the stone terrace by the water.

Tables were selected with plain white linens and burlap table runners to add texture.

Centerpieces on each table consisted of one tall glass vase with sand and seagrass, one short vase with assorted blooms of flowers, and a round glass bowl for the table numbers.

Casey wrote the table numbers on four inch white sand dollars nestled in a bowl of sand.

Instead of a traditional guest book, Eric and Casey selected three bottles of wine to age: one for their first, fifth and tenth anniversary.

They were labeled with white starfish, and the guests signed the bottles with paint pens.

To coordinate the color of her cake with her theme Casey took a swatch of her bridesmaids gowns to the designer and coordinated the color on her three tier cake.

The couple had a traditional garter toss, but instead of throwing a bouquet they opted for a “marriage dance.”

Though Lauren and Chris grew up in different states they both share a love of the ocean and arts. The couple met at a party while they were attending Ringling College of Art and Design. Lauren immediately felt a close connection to Chris after learning they had both been camp counselors.

A few days after they first met Chris called Lauren and asked her on a date. As they talked they found they had a lot in common. When he took her home he gave her a kiss which left Lauren weak in her knees, an experience she had never known before. It made her think of that wonderful quote “True love is the soul’s recognition of it’s counterpart in another.”

After graduating from college they moved to Key West where they had a lot of fun! One day after coming back from a vacation with his brothers Chris made reservations at a restaurant on Sunset Key. That evening after a wonderful dinner and wine Chris got down on one knee and proposed. Lauren was so excited she said “yes” before looking at the ring. Lauren loves the way Chris makes her laugh and how supportative he is. They both now have wonderful jobs, Chris doing what he loves to do working for Yahoo and A T & T, and Lauren is an aspiring event designer. After some turbulation in their lives with family and an accident Lauren was in they both truly realize the most important things in life is each other, family and friends.

Laurens experience of designing her own wedding has led her to a career in Event Design & Styling! She just finished a 6 month Manager Internship at an event design company, and is now in the process of opening up her business.

The wedding was held at an historic Venetian Palace called the Ringling Estate. The couple chose that venue because they met while attending the Ringling College of Art & Design and had always admired both the city and the estate.

The seashell centerpieces consisted of antiqued urns covered in moss, there were seashell tiaras for the flower girls, and seashell wreaths to hang on the back of the chairs.

The bride and groom exchanged vows on the terrace with a sunset over the bay; by the time they started dancing, the view had changed to a perfect reflection of the moon in the water.

The stationery collection of save the date, pocket fold invites with inserts, programs, weekend program, welcome postcard, etc. were all stamped and embossed with gold powder for shine and texture.

The custom beach tote each guest received was stuffed with custom chocolates and m&m’s and ocean related products like rum cake and key lime cookies.

Seashell and pearl wreaths hung on the chairs and there was a fashion illustration of Lauren and her bridesmaids to use as stationery for the bridal showers and thank you notes.

The beach themed cake consisted of key lime and coconut soaked in pineapple rum.

Beignets were served as a midnight snack instead of a groom’s cake to keep his New Orleans tradition.

he relationship between the photographer and bride and groom is the single most important aspect in good photography says Mark, owner of A Seaside Wedding Photography in Pompano Beach, FL. “I think that’s where we excel. I seem to have an ability to get people to relax very quickly and enjoy themselves.”

When asked if he felt that the ability to produce consistent imaging results with a range of personalities was a skill set that can be taught Mark answered, “I think it’s something you have or you don’t. Some couples are more into photojournalism than others. By meeting with them prior to the wedding day we establish a feeling of what the final look of their photography will be. Mark tends to keep it simple on the set which more often than not turns out to be the beach. South Florida’s coastline has miles of picture coastal vistas, and this photographer uses them so frequently that he has developed his own system that allows him to focus his energies on what is important— his subjects. “The technical end should be made as simple as possible. I don’t think too much about it, I’m not a fashion photographer, I’m a wedding photographer. Prior to the ceremony the couple’s families gathered at the beach for a private ten minute reading. The bride wore a beautifully adorned traditional Lengha for the ceremony then changed into a second elegant white bridal gown for her formal photos and reception.

The couple chose a bamboo canopy decorated in turquoise material with white flowers on the sides for their beach ceremony.

White chairs were provided for the couple to sit during a portion of the ceremony.

A platform was brought in to supply a walkway for the guests and bridal party. For the convenience of their guests the couple had arranged a shoe check-in and provided flip flops for them to change into.

At the entrance to the ceremony they were greeted by the soft, light music of the steel pan. After the ceremony the guests were guided into the resort for refreshments. The Atlantic Ballroom was the scene for their reception where the couple continued their color theme of turquoise and white.

Starfish table cards were neatly arranged to guide the guests to their seats. A five tier cake stood tall on the table adorned with piping and scroll work plus fresh white cymbidium orchids graced the top and cascaded down the sides. Polaroid cameras were provided for guests on each table to take photos of themselves and sign as a keepsake for the couple.

Three Wedding Gowns: Details! Details!

hen Kim Kardashian chose family friend Vera Wang to create her custom couture wedding gowns, she knew things would be picture perfect.

What she didn’t know was which of the three intricate gowns she would choose to wear for her walk down the aisle.

“I truly, up until two days before [the wedding] could not decide which to wear,” the bride admits. After seeking advice from friends, family and of course Wang herself the choice was clear.

ardashian made her grand entrance in what she calls the “princess look” gown, a ball gown with a full tulle skirt, basque waist and hand-pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on bodice and train. Along with her Lorraine Schwartz headpiece, she wore a cathedral length veil with handpieced Chantilly lace appliqué at the hem and a lightly shirred blusher layer.

“It was Cinderella,” Wang tells of the overall look.

“But Cinderella with a very sexy body. She has a very Liz Taylor or Sophia Loren kind of body and we didn’t want to lose that.”

For the first dance, Kardashian went with something completely different — the gown that ended up being “my favorite,” she says — a sexier, Georgette mermaid dress with hand- pieced Chantilly lace appliqué on bodice. The skirt had hand-cut organza petals intermixed with Chantilly lace motifs and organza sprig embroidery.

And lastly, when it was time to party, Kardashian made her third and final change of the evening into a bias-cut crepe-back satin gown with v-neck and circle skirt. She accessorized all three looks with custom Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Wang summed up the experience perfectly: “It was a wonderful process. The fact that she came to me for having a certain classicism mixed with modernity, I feel very honored.”

The sweetest part of your big day will probably be your wedding cake, but wedding cakes aren’t just sugar and flour anymore. Today you can customize everything from the frosting, fondant, flowers and more. Shopping for your wedding day dessert can be more complicated than you think.

Price Shock

Wedding cake ain’t cheap, ladies. Be prepared to pay between $2.00 and $18.00 a slice. The more complicated the cake, the more you’ll spend. Generally, fondant is more expensive than frosting. Handmade detailing will increase price as well. Some brides use a dummy cake, which can save a bundle on the bakery bill. These gorgeous confections, often consisting of decorated Styrofoam, are photographed and then rushed out of sight.
