n esta edición 78 de la revista Flor Ecuador, queremos exponer principalmente la delicada situación que atraviesa el mercado ruso, uno de los principales destinos de nuestras exportaciones de flores. Aunque Rusia está entrando en una fase de desaceleración económica que probablemente producirá efectos negativos en nuestras exportaciones, nuestros socios están en una constante búsqueda de mejorar la calidad de su flor, tomando en cuenta las exigencias de este mercado. Los floricultores ecuatorianos buscamos perfección en los procesos productivos que generen productos y variedades más atractivas para el consumidor ruso, y estoy seguro que ése seguirá siendo el enfoque comercial y productivo.

n this 78th edition of Flor Ecuador Magazine, we would like to primarily present the delicate situation being experienced in the Russian market, one of the main destinations for our flower exports. Although Russia is entering into a phase of economic recession, which will most likely cause negative effects to our exports, our partners are always searching for ways to improve the quality of flowers, taking into account the demands of this market. Ecuadorian flower farmers look for perfection in the production processes that produce more attractive products and varieties for Russian consumers, and I am sure that this will continue to be the commercial and productive focal point. Finally, I would like to invite you to participate in the Ecuadorian Floriculture Trade Fair Agriflor 2014 in Quito, from October 1-4, 2014. It will be a very special fair, as this is the 30th anniversary of Expoflores. In addition to the trade fair, we will have an important and significant event at an iconic and cultural site of our capital, San Francisco de Quito Convent. Hope to see you there!

n muro elaborado con rosas ecuatorianas causó admiración entre los artistas que lo escogieron como su locación predilecta para posar ante las cámaras de los medios de comunicación del mundo que cubrieron la apertura del Festival de Cannes.

Ante el muro de 4.0 0 0 rosas, posaron celebridades como los protagonistas de la película Grace de Monaco: Tim Roth ( Príncipe Rainiero); Paz Vega ( María Callas), Olivier Dahan (director), Pierre Ange Le Pogam ( productor), así como el miembro del jurado del Festival y actor reconocido Willem Dafoe. Esta decoración fue posible gracias a las gestiones del Mi-
nisterio de Comercio Exterior y Pro Ecuador ante la productora francesa Gaumont, una de las más importantes a nivel mundial, a fin de que se promocionen las flores, así como la marca país Ecuador Ama la Vida y el slogan A ll You Need is Ecuador. Valeria Escudero, directora de la Oficina Comercial en París de Pro Ecuador, manifestó que también se buscan espacios para promocionar en la gala cinematográfica otros productos de exportación como chocolates y sombreros de paja toquilla.

A
wall adorned with Ecuadorian roses was greatly admired by artists that chose it as a backdrop to pose for the cameras of international media covering the Cannes Film Festival.
In front of the wall, covered in 4,000 roses, various celebrities struck a pose, such as the protagonists of the movie, Grace of Monaco: Tim Roth (Prince Rainier); Paz Vega (Maria Callas), Olivier Dahan (director), Pierre Ange Le Pogam (producer), as well as member of the Festival Jury and well-known actor, Willem Dafoe.
This décor was made possible thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Pro Ecuador through the French film studio, Gaumont, one of the most important worldwide, with the goal of promoting the flowers, as well as the Ecuadorian trademark, Ama la Vida (Love Life) and the slogan, All You Need is Ecuador. Valeria Escudero, director of the Commercial Office of Pro Ecuador in Paris, stated that other products, such as chocolates and Panama hats, are to be promoted at cinematography events.

ECUADORIAN ROSES IN KOREA / Эквадорских роз в Корее PRO ECUADOR a través de su Oficina Comercial en Seúl, coordinó la presencia de rosas ecuatorianas en la plaza de Gwanghwamun PRO ECUADOR, through its Commercial Office in Seoul, coordinated the presence of Ecuadorian roses in Gwanghwamun Square

l Papa Francisco encabezó la ceremonia de beatificación de mártires coreanos. La decoración integral de la Catedral de Myeondong -donde se celebró la misa por la Paz y la Reconciliación el 18 de agosto-, la realizaron con rosas como un regalo del pueblo ecuatoriano. Se emplearon 14 variedades de rosas blancas, beiges y rosadas. En total fueron alrededor de 6.000 flores de fincas FlorEcuador® Certified. Además de adornar los eventos de la visita papal, el centro de prensa internacional, los hoteles Grand Hilton y JW Marriot de Seúl con información explicativa, se envió un arreglo a la editorialista de una de las más prestigiosas revistas de bodas de Corea. Esta actividad se convirtió en el complemento ideal de cientos de noticias relacionadas con este evento. Prensa escrita, transmisiones en vivo de televisión y más, hablaron del gesto del Ecuador por la visita del Papa.

Likewise, the primary decoration of the Myeondong Cathedral –where mass was held for Peace and Reconciliation on August 18- was performed with roses as a gift from Ecuador. 14 varieties of white, beige and pink roses were used. In total, approximately 6,000 flowers from FlorEcuador® Certified farms were used. In addition to adorning the events related to the Pope’s visit, the international media center, and the Grand Hilton and JW Marriot of Seoul Hotels with explanatory information, an arrangement was sent to the editor of one of the most prestigious wedding magazines in Korea. This was an ideal complement to the hundreds of news articles related to this event. Newspapers and magazines, live TV and more all reported on Ecuador’s involvement in the Pope’s visit.

Wilson Goto es ingeniero agrónomo graduado en FFALM Estado do Parana en Brasil y MBA en Marketing por la FGV, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Él tocó el tema “Manejo del fertirriego y calidad de flores”. FlorEcuador®Certified came about in 2005 as a means of certification applicable to companies dedicated to growing and/or exporting flowers in Ecuador, under the framework of social and environmental requirements: Conservation of water and irrigation systems; conservation of soil and fertilization; safe and effective use of pesticides; worker rights and wellbeing; occupational health and safety; waste management; and, national and local laws. FlorEcuador requirements come under the socio-environmental scope and are established to achieve 4 objectives: The Certification Entities are certified by Expoflores and accredited with the Ecuadorian Accreditation
Entity (OAE) under Guideline ISO/IEC 17065:2012 “Evaluation of conformity – Requirements for entities that certify products, processes and services”, with the aim of ensuring impartiality of the audits. En el 2013, Expoflores ejecutó el proyecto de “Capacitación e Inserción Laboral a Adolescentes y Jóvenes con y sin Discapacidad en el Sector Florícola”, denominado “Sueños que Florecen” diseñando módulos de capacitación en habilidades blandas y técnicas para la floricultura, llegando a más de 200 adolescentes y jóvenes. Participaron más de 15 empresas florícolas que forman parte de la Red de RSE, con quien se realizó la capacitación y la inserción laboral. A esta segunda etapa también lo llamaremos “Sueños que Florecen” debido a que continuaremos apoyando aquellas expectativas y sueños de los jóvenes por: estudiar, trabajar, aprender, conocer nuevos temas, relacionarse con otras personas; en definitiva apoyaremos a que sean chicos y chicas felices…
