Sure ways to spot a scammer
Scammers say and do things that can tell us they’re lying — and they’re not who they pretend to be. Of course, to hear or see those clues, we have to get past the panic scammers make us feel, thanks to the so-called emergencies they try to create. And since scammers are convincing, that can be hard to do. But recent scams are costing people their life savings, so here are some sure ways to spot the scammer.
Things only scammers will say:
· “Act now!” That’s a scam. Scammers use pressure, so you don’t have time to think. But pressuring you to act now is always a sign of a scam. It’s also a reason to stop.
“Only say what I tell you to say.” That’s a scam. The minute someone tells you to lie to anyone — including bank tellers or investment brokers — stop. It’s a scam.
· “Don’t trust anyone. They’re in on it.” That’s a scam. Scammers want to cut you off from anyone who might slow you down.
· “Do [this] or you’ll be arrested.” That’s a scam. Any threat like this is a lie. Nobody needs money or information to keep you out of jail, keep you from being deported, or avoid bigger fines. They’re all scams.
· “Don’t hang up. ” That’s a scam. If someone wants to keep you on the phone while you go withdraw or transfer money, buy gift cards, or anything else they’re asking you to do: that’s a scammer. DO hang up.
And here’s a list of things that only scammers will tell you to do:

PLANNING CONNECTION
CHERI DWORAK + DREW ROSE
Your client needs to start a DI claim – now what?
May is Disability Insurance (DI) Awareness Month and a good time to familiarize yourself with the DI claim process and best practices.
1. The best way for your client to start a claim is through the DI Claim Center (by creating an account on the Claims page on NM.com).
2. Your client should complete the Permission to Discuss form to authorize the home office to disclose (or not disclose) claim information to you.
3. When the home office receives a notice of claim, it will send a Claim Kit to the insured and you will receive a system-generated email letting you know a claim was started.
4. The analyst will contact the claimant (or their representative) via letter or phone within 10 business days of receiving the Request for Benefits and Disclosure forms.
5. You can view claim information for your clients on NM Connect, including the analyst’s name and phone number, claim status and more. For more details and in-depth instruction, visit Mutual Knowledge.
Pershing prefill available in NetX360 on May 20
After receiving your feedback, we have identified a solution to bring back Pershing prefill in NetX360 effective Monday, May 20. This will mirror what you experienced prior to the change in early March, while still progressing forward to an improved account opening experience.

Where we are headed – Client Onboarding 2.0 (COB 2.0): This work is foundational to upgrade NM to the new onboarding platform and improve the Wealth account opening experience. COB 2.0, now scheduled to launch in Q4 2024, will allow for:
• Ability to open multiple accounts in one session, saving time and repetitive steps
• Improved work-status tracking
• Updated user-interface making it easier to see what is missing
• Move to client centric data from an account centric view making it easier to service all of a client’s accounts
The Financial Representatives Association Board, Wealth, and Integrated Operations Field Committees, along with a COB 2.0 Field Working Group, will continue to partner with the home office through the transition to the next generation of client onboarding.
