We arrive into this game in the middle of a very busy schedule for the players and everyone at the club, with games coming thick and fast.

Tonight’s game will be a tough one against a side who proved their qualities in the first game, but it’s one we feel we can go and win to progress into the next round of the Emirates FA Cup. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Cod Army for their support over the past few weeks, it hasn’t gone unnoticed to me or the players. Your backing, especially during such a busy spell, is vital and is greatly appreciated.

Finally, I’d like to welcome Southport’s manager Steve Burr, their players and directors to Highbury this evening, and wish you all a safe journey home.

Although there has been a decrease in the use of these illegal items, incidents during last week’s Emirates FA Cup First Round Clash at Southport resulted in delays to the game.

Due to this incident our safety staff will be searching supporters entering the stadium on Tuesday night and anyone found in possession of pyrotechnics will be denied access, face a banning order and passed onto the police.

The club would like to remind supporters of the serious consequences they may face surrounding the use of pyrotechnics.

JIMMYRYAN FLEETWOOD’S MIDFIELD MAESTRO

By David Mitchell Jimmy Ryan was involved with his favourite football team from the age of seven, having been spotted playing Sunday League football.

“I was a big Liverpool fan, supporting local lads such as Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard and trying to copy them. It was always my ambition to go full-time.”

An early highlight was winning successive FA Youth Cups, in 2006 and 2007.

“It was the biggest trophy you could win at the time.

I was involved with Liverpool for about twelve years but felt the need to step up and play alongside adults.

My time at Shrewsbury enabled me to do just that.”

Ryan went on a month’s loan and eventually signed.

There were few opportunities but it was a valuable experience in the move from academy to league football. In August 2008, just shy of his twentieth birthday, Ryan signed for Accrington Stanley.

In June 2013, Ryan signed for Chesterfield.

“I knew assistant manager Leam Richardson from Accrington days and everything about it felt right.

There was a great bunch of lads and staff and I loved it from day one. It was like being back at Accrington.

There were top players like Gary Roberts, Tommy Lee and Dan Gardner. I stayed over a couple of nights a week but travelled from home otherwise.”

Ryan was soon to gain a League Two Champions medal and play at Wembley in the Football League Trophy, albeit on the losing side.

“It was probably the best period in my career successwise. Wembley was disappointing but a great experience all the same. Sadly, the team began to get dismantled, the management moved on and it was likely to be a struggle. My contract was up and I spoke to Fleetwood. I was impressed, a move felt right and I was an hour or so from home.”

“The experience at Accrington made me what I am today. I learned so much. There were loads of characters and everyone stood up for each other on the pitch. John Coleman got the best out of me and encouraged me to express myself.”

Ryan has quickly raced to sixty-six appearances and provided a pivotal role in midfield.

There were three profitable seasons with 24 goals from 149 appearances. Ryan was voted into the PFA Team of the Year in 2010-11.

Returning to Accrington days, there was a call from the Republic of Ireland Under 21s.

“I didn’t even know the award existed but, hopefully, I can get another before my career ends.”

“I was a big Liverpool fan, supporting local lads such as Robbie Fowler”

after the disappointment of going down. It turned out to be probably the best move I’ve made.”

At this point, he felt there was time for a change and at a higher level. The chance came with League One Scunthorpe United.

“I was ambitious but at the same time didn’t want to leave my mates at Stanley. For the first time, I lived away from home. I was injured in my first season but played well in a full season the year after.

Unfortunately, we were relegated. My contract was up and the next choice of club was a big decision

“We have played good football and I am happy personally. I feel we can avoid going down to the wire this year.”

“My Nana and Grandad on Dad’s side are Irish and I’d played at nearly every age group at Liverpool. When they got in touch again it was a bit of a shock. I was playing football in the park at the time! They wanted me to go to Malaysia so I had to cancel a holiday. It was a great trip and I got a few more games.”

The 28 year-old is still ambitious to taste success and the recent arrival of his second child makes football ever more important, ‘You get the feeling that it’s no longer about fun, there are responsibilities to your family but they are nice responsibilities to have.’

Stefan Willoughby’s match day photographs are much-admired. His is an eleven-hour day, beginning at around one o’clock.

“I start with sponsors photographs. These will be taken in the ‘dugout’, the tunnel and the dressing room if it is available. I will also photograph presentations before the game in the Parkside hospitality.

“I keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities.

I might picture the arrival of the players. Bobby Grant always takes time out to have a word.

David Ball and Pondy are amongst others who will also pass the time of day, as will Uwe Rosler.

“A few of the players use my pictures on their Twitter profile. I normally get the heads up if there’s something special happening, such as the recent appearance of Alfie Boe. “I have always been keen on crowd pictures. The club is nothing without the fans and if they can get a bit of exposure, all the better. Some weeks I will take more than on others. It depends what other demands I have that day.

“My position for the game depends on the weather. In bright sunshine I need to be across from the Parkside Stand otherwise the players will be in shadow. I will usually start somewhere near the big screen and work my way round the Highbury and Memorial Stands, always building in some time near the tunnel.

“Night games are completely different. I normally stay near the Parkside because there is

more light available. At half time I aim to send a couple of pictures to the media team for the match report.

“I will normally shoot around 800 pictures. This figure has increased as demands have grown. I will prepare a 30/40 picture album of the game at the ground, which will go on to Facebook.

This will take an hour or so. I get home between seven and eight when I work on crowd pictures and the rest of the output until around midnight.’

Covering the Liverpool pre-season friendly was a particularly special occasion for Stefan.

“I’ve been a fan since a kid and was thrilled to meet David Fairclough, an early hero, at the game. I was impressed by the way everyone from Jurgen Klopp down treated the occasion. Danny Ings came across after he had seen me take a picture of him. He shook my hand. I told him I was a Liverpool fan but to keep it quiet! Sadio Mane asked me how many pictures I would take.

“All of me?!” he replied cheekily.”

“I love Fleetwood Town, I love what I do. There is nothing better than a beautiful picture which captures a moment in time. It helps to tell a story.”

Fleetwood Town can confirm that we are hosting Rangers Legends v England legends at Highbury Stadium on Saturday 25th March 2017 (2pm kick-off). The game has been organised to raise funds for former Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen’s MND foundation.

The charity we will be raising money for the Fernando Ricksen MND Foundation. Over the last few years I have become a very close friend of his. The Glasgow Rangers fans have been amazing, every time we have an event or a game for Fernando they turn up in there thousands.”

I don’t think we could have picked a better location and the fans are really looking forward to visiting the Fylde Coast for the weekend. COACH'S THOUGHTS Under 18’s coach Nathan rooney had this to say about LEWIS SHORROCK. “Lewis is a second year centre midfielder who has a good range of passing which is good for the team.

He’s been carrying an injury of late which hasn’t allowed him to play at 100% but he ALWAYS listens and takes new things on all the time. He needs to keep himself level headed because the football he’s been playing in the last few weeks has been much better.”
