Whether you’re taking in the metropolitan bustle of Rome, the preserved ancient city of Pompeii, or the gorgeous coastal resorts on the Amalfi, Italy offers an infinite variety of sights, tastes and sounds. Away from these destinations, beautiful islands like Sicily are dripping in a culture that’s completely unique to the mainland, meaning you’ll have a wealth of different experiences as you move from one locale to the next.

DAY 2

After arriving in Rome, you’ll be transferred to your first hotel – the Smooth Hotel Rome West (or similar).

After breakfast, you’ll be taken on an incredible tour of Ancient Rome and the Vatican. An excursion that will cause your imagination to run wild, you’ll be transported back to the time of the gladiator and visit sites such as Capitoline Hill, Palatine, Hill, the Imperial Palace, the Colosseum, and Piazza Venezia. After this, you’ll visit the Vatican and take in the Pope’s residence – St Peter’s Basilica.

Smooth Hotel Rome West, Rome An elegant, refined hotel with spacious and modern rooms, a stay at the fourstar Smooth Hotel Room West ensures a comfortable stay in the Italian capital.

Alongside the well-appointed 58 rooms, there is a stylish lounge bar and breakfast room. Found on the outskirts of the city, it’s an ideal hotel for those who don’t want to be too close to the hustle of Rome. The nearest metro stop is around a 15-minute walk away, making it incredibly easy to get into the city.

Rome A treasure trove of masterpieces, from cultural gems and great paintings to sculptures and unique streets. The ambitious modern architecture is a striking contrast with the classical palazzos and villas, appeasing both modernists and traditionalists. With landmarks known the world over, incredible food, and some stunning natural scenery – it’s the ideal city break destination.

DAY 3 An early start to the day coincides with a three-hour walking tour of some classic Rome spots. Moving past the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon (an extra €2 for entrance), the tour ensures you can tick off the city’s most enduring landmarks.

In the late afternoon, you’ll be taken to Civitavecchia Port for a ferry to Palermo, Sicily.

Palermo, Sicily Arriving at the Sicilian capital of Palermo, you will be met with a metropolitan coastal city, where the past is never far from the charming restaurants and piazzas. Stroll along the marina or immerse yourself in the shopping opportunities found in and around the Via Roma, and be careful not to strain your neck too much from looking up at all the spires and churches that rise in numbers above the city. Heading out of the city to take in the rest of the island, you’ll never be short of things to do, see and taste.

Magic of Southern Italy ITINERARY DAY 4 After arriving in Palermo, Sicily’s capital and largest city, you’ll be taken on a tour of one its most-famous landmarks – the Palpatine Chapel (an extra €13 entrance fee). Witness a mixture of Latin, Byzantine and Islamic cultures blend into one another in this incredible holy sanctum.

After this, you’ll move onto the ancient fishing village of Cefalú. Famous for its wonderful beaches, the architecture on offer is just as impressive. You’ll then be transferred to the four-star Nike Hotel in the Taormina area, where you’ll stay for two nights on a half-board basis.

Nike Hotel, Taormina A hotel built in true Mediterranean style, the four-star Nike Hotel offers incredible views of Taormina’s Greco-Roman Theatre and the unparalleled Mount Etna – the highest active volcano in Europe. The hotel has gorgeous gardens and terraces to enjoy these views from and an authentic restaurant that serves delectable Sicilian cuisine.

DAY 5 After breakfast, you’ll go on an incredible excursion to Mount Etna. At a height of 1900 metres, it’s the tallest of its kind in Europe. Walk the Silvestri craters and watch the fascinating lava streams that are still there from previous eruptions.

If the weather allows, guests can even

climb aboard an ATV (extra cost) to really explore. In the afternoon, you’ll visit Taormina – a dramatic and historic town full of gorgeous gardens, spectacular sea views, and incredible scenery. Guests can also enter the town’s most popular landmark – the Greco-Roman Theatre (an extra €11 admission fee).

Taormina An ancient city that has been beautifully preserved, much of the incredible architecture dates back to the 1800s. And after just a quick glance, it’s easy to see every year represented in their incredibly detailed facades. One of the tourist hotspots on Sicily, its ancient theatre, Porta Messina centre, the San Nicola Duomo, and the beautiful island of Isola Bella are the main attractions.

Magic of Southern Italy ITINERARY DAY 6 After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Calabria on a private coach. En route, your driver will stop so you can get some lunch (not included), as well as a further stop in Scilla for an included gelato tasting.

You will then arrive at the four-star Hotel Tirreno, where you will stay for one night on a half-board basis.

Hotel Tirreno, Calabria Offering unforgettable views of the Tyrrhenian coast and the Aeolian Islands, Hotel Tirreno is a modern hotel found in breathtaking surroundings. The hotel offers free shuttle buses to Tropea city centre and the nearby beach should you wish to explore, although that is just 500-metre walk if you want to stretch your legs. Facilities include an outdoor pool, kids’ area, and pool bar. The onsite restaurant provides a well-stocked international breakfast and authentic Italian options for dinner.

DAY 7 After breakfast, you’ll transfer to the Campania region on a private coach.

En route, you’ll stop at a buffalo farm where you can taste some freshly made mozzarella. You’ll arrive in Campania and check-in at the four-star Hotel Jaccarino – where you’ll stay for two nights on a halfboard basis.

Hotel Jaccarino, Campania Offering stunning views across the Gulf of Naples, Hotel Jaccarino is a wonderful accommodation choice for those looking for a luxurious stay in Italy. Overlooking both Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, the hotel’s swimming pool has an enviable location that you’ll never get bored of. The bar serves drinks and snacks throughout the day, while the restaurant offers authentic, locally prepared dishes for each meal.

Magic of Southern Italy ITINERARY DAY 8 Leaving early in the morning, you’ll travel to the beautiful town of Sorrento. Well known for its historical centre and quaint souvenir shops, it’s a great place to get lost for a couple of hours. After this, you’ll climb back on the coach and be driven up the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO-listed site for its natural beauty. The coach will stop and you’ll have time to take in its unparalleled beauty and grab yourself a spot of lunch (not included).

Sorrento & the Amalfi Coast Made a UNESCO Heritage Site due to the outstanding natural beauty of the area, the Amalfi Coast and its coastal stretch towards Sorrento is a unique pearl on the Italian peninsula. The unforgettable landscapes and warm climate will leave you with no uncertainty as to why. The rich blend of nature, culture and dining mean that this southern region of Italy has been a favourite destination for artists for centuries.

DAY 9 After breakfast and check out, you’ll be taken to the ancient city of Pompeii. With a tragic history owing to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79, this ancient city provides an incredible insight into what a city looked like during Ancient Rome. Take in the Roman Forum, the Temples of Zeus and Apollo, and the incredible antiques and artwork on offer in the local shops. After this guided tour, you’ll head back onto the coach and travel towards Naples. You’ll have some free time in the city to explore, where you can sample a world-famous pizza (not included), before embarking on an included city tour of sights such as Castel Nuovo, Palazzo Reale and more.

After this, you’ll head to your final hotel for a one-night stay at the Golden Tulip on a Naples & Pompeii half-board basis.

Historic Pompeii is known the world over for its tragic volcanic eruption, and now it is known as one of the best ways of seeing a truly preserved part of Ancient Rome.

The volcano in question, Mount Vesuvius, is also another popular landmark for visitors at around about an hour away – visitors can drive and park (roughly €2 per hour) or get a local bus. Other popular sites in the area are the Temple of Apollo, the Forum Baths and the Roman Amphitheatre. The major city of Naples can be reached in under 30 minutes by car and is home to a number of metropolitan delights to contrast to Pompeii’s historic feel.

Magic of Southern Italy ITINERARY Golden Tulip, Rome Found in the coastal area just outside of Rome, the Golden Tulip is a four-star hotel blessed with convenient facilities and elegant rooms. The authentic restaurant offers traditional Italian fare for lunch and dinner, as well as a wellstocked international breakfast each morning. The hotel has a gorgeous pool area with plenty of sun loungers and outside seating for a drink or snack.

DAY 10 After breakfast, you’ll check out and catch your return flight from Rome Airport.
