The oldest inhabited city in Croatia, Zadar is an enchanting town that has survived the devastation of two wars in the last 100 years to emerge as a modern city with lots of little gems to explore both during the day and at night. Start your exploration of the city by visiting some of its ancient ruins. At the old Roman forum, visitors can get a glimpse of what life was like when the Dalmatian Coast was one of the most important regions in the Mediterranean. Stroll through the narrow

streets, explore the stalls at the city’s local market and then enjoy an ice cream by the seafront, when the midday sun gets a bit too much. History-lovers should also visit the old gate of what was once the walled Old Town.

Near this, you can also find the National Museum of Zadar as well as the Gallery of Fine Arts, where you can discover the rich culture and background of the city. When night falls over Zadar, head to the northern end of the Old Town. While you have spent

the day exploring the city, a recently erected art installation has been harvesting the rays of the sun in order to put on a spectacular lightshow. The Greeting to the Sun is a truly unique art project that is located at the northern end of the Old Town and at night, the panels light up in colourful patterns.

During the summer months this solar-powered show is usually accompanied by music, making it an impromptu dancefloor next to the sea.
