FROM THE PRESIDENT I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. It’s the time of year where we begin welcoming back our Grand Valley friends, family and neighbors who left for the summer months or for extended vacations. We have several guest speakers booked for the remainder of the year. Information and dates are posted later in this issue of the Grapevine. You do not need to be an HOA member to attend. All residents are welcome, even if the speaker is at a General Meeting. Our next “Meet N’ Greet” will be September 8th at 9:30 am in the clubhouse. I encourage all residents to attend and welcome our newest neighbors to Grand Valley. Coffee/ tea and donuts will be provided. The next HOA General Meeting will be September 10th due to the Labor Day holiday. The Board Meeting will be September 17th. It’s time to think about our upcoming election at our Annual Meeting, November 5th. You must be a “member in

According to our Bylaws, this is the deadline for the Treasurer to provide an updated list of members in good standing to the Election committee for review. We have 4 Board positions up for election. Please consider to volunteer to serve. These are two year terms. To run, contact one of the members of the Nominating Committee or you can nominate a resident in good standing or yourself from the floor at the October 1st meeting. We still need a few volunteers for the Nominating Committee. Contact a Board member if interested. Positions for the the Election Committee have been appointed and accepted. PLEASE NOTE: Grand Valley Rules & Regulations XXVIII. “All complaints concerning the park or the conduct of residents must be made in writing to the Park Manager at the park office and must be signed by the resident making the complaint. WELCOME BACK! September Bingo will be on the 11th and the 25th. Bring your neighbor. Hope to see you all then. Peggy Madison SOCIAL COMMITTEE .Currently, we do not have any volunteers to take over the Social Committee, so we are going to try some changes. Currently, there is a Decorating Committee in place. We need a volunteer for the Event Committee. This position is solely for seeking and booking quality events for our community. We need a volunteer or two to take over a newly created position, Purchasing Agent. This volunteer will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining all inventory, supplies and the purchase of products as needed for events. They will work with the Event Committee and Event Team. The Event Team will be responsible for setup and preparation for all events. Volunteers will be responsible for preparing meals, serving and clean up. Again, this committee will work with the decorating, purchasing and event committees. We also need an individual(s) to plan a few bus trips a year, day trips or longer for Grand Valley. Volunteers and new ideas are always welcomed. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN HOA MEMBER TO VOLUNTEER FOR ANY OF THESE COMMITTEES.

CARDS MAKING/PAPER CRAFTING This group meets every Wednesday from 1 to 3pm in the clubhouse. All crafters are welcome, from beginners to more advanced. If you have always thought you would like to give card making a try, but don't know where to begin, or having been doing this on your own for years, we would love for you to come and join us. WREATH MAKING CLASS
BONSAI SEMINAR New World Bonsai will be presenting a 1 hour seminar on growing and caring for Bonsai plants on September 9th at 1:30pm in the clubhouse. Products will be available for purchase. Sign up sheet is in the clubhouse. The more attendees the less expensive the class will be.
Patricia Pickles will be teaching another wreath making class on Sunday, September 23rd at 2pm. This is the perfect time to learn how to make a deco mesh wreath for any occasion, and a great time to make your Christmas wreath before the holidays. They also make wonderful gifts. A sign up sheet is in the clubhouse. Pat will provide a list of needed items to be purchased before class. If you made a wreath in the past, come join the class and make another one. All are welcome.
FUTURE SPEAKERS OCTOBER 1ST—Crime Prevention will return beginning at 7pm, with the General Meeting following. All residents are welcome to attend this meeting. NOVEMBER 12TH—Medicare 101 6:30pm. SHINE will be explaining supplemental insurance, open enrollment, etc. You will be able to interact with them during the seminar. They will be available to answer any personal questions or concerns you may have. NOVEMBER 19TH—Beginning at 6:30pm Gregory Gay, Elder Care Attorney, will be speaking about wills, living wills, trust, POAs, etc. DECEMBER 5TH—Reverend Patrick from Gulfside Hospice will speak at our General Meeting. All residents are welcome to attend.
SHUFFLEBOARD Come and join your neighbors for a fun game of shuffleboard. We meet each and every Friday at 9:30 am and Sunday at 7 pm. Equipment is pro vided and we’ll “show you the ropes”. if you haven't played in the past.
ROGER ROBICHEAU (one of our own) MR. KERRY: Mr. President, over the last year, Roger J. Robicheau, of Holbrook, Massachusetts, has taken the time to share with me many of his poems that were inspired by the events of September 11 and our country’s efforts to heal the wounds of that day. His eloquence has captured the heroes who sacrificed so much for so many, has lifted my spirits throughout the year and has offered insightful perspective on that tragic day. I enter his latest poem, THE ELEVENTH OF SEPTEMBER, into the Record so that my colleagues and my fellow Americans can share in his thoughts and prayers for our county. EASY CRANBERRY BREAD Preheat oven to 350. Blend together 2 sticks soft butter with 8 oz soft cream cheese and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Add 4 eggs, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt. Add 2 cups flour. Fold in cranberries. Pour into greased and floured loaf pan. Bake 65—70 minutes or till tested for doneness.
BATHROOM HUMOR A woman goes to the Dr. for a routine physical. The nurse hands her a urine specimen container and says “The bathroom is that way”. A few minutes later the woman returns with an empty container and tells the nurse, “Thanks, but they had a toilet in there, so I didn’t need this after all.”
BUNCO Due to the Labor Day holiday there will be NO Bunco in September. Be sure to watch for the October calendar. We play the 2nd Monday at 7pm. Cost is $5. Easy to learn and so much fun. Bring your own beverage.
WATER AEROBICS Judy Ingalls has started teaching water aerobics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 am. This is open to both men and women. She looks forward to seeing you there.
